There are plenty of people that say they quit WoW entirely because of an immature community.
I don't understand what prevents an immature community in AoC. Is there some sort of magic wall that prevents immatures from joining AoC in large numbers?
I guess the idea is that blood and boobs = less kids. (WRONG)
I mean, how many people, out of the 1 Million Beta signups are under 17 years old? How many are duplicates to get a better chance at entry?
Who cares if this game does only have a few hundred thousand playing. Thats more then enough to have a good gaming community. You don't need millions of players to have a successful game. I my self have been playing WoW for 3yrs and it's time to move on. I like the game very much but at times it gets very boring becuase of the lack of content I think they provide. One new area and some dailys since the last expansion pack is not enough. They make enough money and have the resources to give us a little more I think through out the year. Really....how many times can you run those same boring dungeons over and over again on your multiple lvl 70s that most people have.
WoW does have a very immature community....that is because the game can run on basically any PC. Nice thing about AoC is that you cant run this on any given machine which will stop a lot of children from playing since they do not have the money or mom and dad will not spend it to upgrade there machine. I also think WaR will have a big following as well because of the cartoon graphics that also allow you to run on most machines. AoC will be a more mature audience which is what a lot of older gamers want. There is nothing worse then being in a raid at 10pm rolls around and two or three or your guildies have to leave because its past there bedtime on a school night....Let WoW and WaR have all these children. AoC is meant for the Mature audience and thats what we want.
The true Wow killer is most certainly Blizz's next mmo. They will not do the same mistakes they did with WoW so it is easy to imagine their success.
Now the one thing that will seriously weaken the numbers of wow players is simply the combination of the two games : AoC + WAR, with WAR claiming the big chunk of the pie.
Some say that wow players are "noobs" and "immature" but a seriously large percent of them play WoW only because there is simply NO better game available (but this changes now with AoC and later with WAR).
I predict that at least 1/3 of wow players will change to AoC and WAR in the coming couple of years.
The OP is so wrong. Nothing will beat wow. If something beats wow, it will be Blizzard next MMO. WoW runs on pretty much any machine out there... you can't beat that.
Just one question than--with Blizzards next MMO will it to be able to run on pretty much any machine out there?? If it does that means they have made a new game with out any improvments towards graphics... so it will be a new game with the same graphics, same style just a differnt name and differnt proffesion/classes/race?? o yea sounds good to me!!! lol
O and my thoughts on AoC being the WOW killer…How I would love this to be true I don’t think it will happen and there reason for this is because WaR is right around the corner. But AoC and WaR companied will hit WOW really hard.
AoC and WAR will more than likely take 95% of all the PVP’rs from WOW—and that’s a Fact…Be honest WOW players you no that to be true(read the PVP forums on wow, everyone can not wait for AoC and WAR)…And will take other PVPer’s from around the MMO community—AoC and WAR are built on PVP…So the question is how many PVPers make up the 10mill at WOW?? I could say 100k I could say 5mill… truth is none of us no.. And on top of that How many instance/raid guilds have completely down everything they can do in the game?? Are they ready for a new challenge and Game?? None of us know!!!
I do know it will take at least 2 games to knock WOW of its high horse and those games are coming.
And I will throw this out there 2.. With an MMO coming from Biwoware (in the next year if rumors are true)
Depending on the title—that could be a big blow to Blizzard---reason for this gamers know that Bioware makes great games, and Bioware has a nice following….And if and this is a Big IF-----If it turns out to be a Star Wars MMO—watch out Blizzard and the mmo community.. and to be honest cant see that it wont be.. with the new Star Wars CGI movie coming out, and everything surrounding that, what a great time to tell everyone about the new Star Wars MMO.. There are a crap load of Star Wars fans, and a crap load will play the game.. It happen for WOW—you had the nerds playing the game—the pen and paper game….And if it’s a Star Wars mmo and its done right….WOW wont even be a bleep on the RADAR---all you will ever here about that game will be stories.
AoC has a million beta sign ups, what? Two weeks before launch?
Warhammer has over 600k sign ups and it's still 5-6 months from launch.
It's all "ZOMG NEW GAME" hype.
No matter how good the servers are at launch I can almost garauntee you that a good 50% of the people who buy the game will have computer systems that will run AoC like CRAP.
It may be no ones fault but their own but they'll blame FunCom and they'll blame AoC. People are stupid, it's what we are best at.
Launch numbers mean nothing for a MMO. For a finished product like GTA IV or Halo 3 etc. they have ridiculous launch numbers because they are releasing a finished product.
No MMO is ever really a finished product.
Once the free month of play time expires, THEN and only THEN you'll see how many subscribers AoC is going to have and how "successful" AoC is going to be.
I think they are definetly going to turn a profit and run a "successful" game, but breaking a million? I doubt it.
My prediction is 500k subs after the free month slowly dropping off to 300-400k consistent within 6 months. Then, depending on how WAR is released and recieved by the MMO community, AoC numbers will drop a little bit more, then with WotLK coming out, AoC numbers will drop a little more.
Throw in Aion, Spellborn, Stargate, etc.etc. and I except AoC is sit comfortably around 200-300k subscribes within a year.
Now obviously I have no facts to support any of this, no one does. This is purely my opinion and speculation based off the trends I have seen over the past 10 years as a MMO gamer.
The OP is so wrong. Nothing will beat wow. If something beats wow, it will be Blizzard next MMO. WoW runs on pretty much any machine out there... you can't beat that.

{ Mod Edit }, seriously think for a sec before you make these type of comments, in 3 years time everyone will run AoC on maximum settings hence it will run on every machine, thats how it works people keep upgrading, a year ago 8000 series gfx cards were new and expensive and only a few of people had it now its pretty much guaranteed that everyone will have a nvidia 8000 series gfx card, same with dual core processors etc... do you see the pattern? or are you still running a pentium 233Mhz with a Apocalypse 3D graphics card? The trick is develop a game for the hardware most widely used not for the high end stuff.
That being said (and this is generic not just for blizzard) in 3-4 years time if a company develops an mmo that runs on every machine NO it wont mean it will have the graphics of their 6 year old title that did run on every machine when it was released.

Ok..ok i'll give u better graphics---But i hardly doubt the gameplay will change....so u have a better looking game---just differnt races/professions---but still the same old game play---I guess you can go with if it is not broke dont fix it....
I guess im just tired of the same old thing--thats why i like AoC it is differnt hoever, i don't know how long it will hold my intrest.. However, i think im like everyone--hoping for that MMO i can fall in love with--its Was SWG(PRECU) that did it for me--Latly there has not been on mmo that i love---I play wow cause everyone else does--but i do not always enjoy it--So im still searching for that MMO for me--which i think alot of people are!!! Sure its ne hype with new games--but everyone is just looking for that MMO that fits them but at the same time fits everyone else....WOW has that to a point--becasue truth be told--there is not one MMO out there that has tried to stand up to WOW....
Except fore the new ones coming out...AoC,WAR,Biwoware MMO---ETC...And for that I thank WOW...time to take the MMO to a differnt level... instead of what WOW offers!!
I won't be dropping my WoW subscription yet. I'm as excited as anyone about the open tomorrow (CE comes via FedEx today, I've been proselytizing guildies in WoW, etc.), but there's no way I'm going to jettison 3 years and multiple 70s just because some company promised their game was going to be good. I'll still login to WoW off and on, once the new wears off of AoC.
A lot of it depends on how hardcore you have to be to enjoy AoC. If I have to become a lolraider for 6 hours a night, 5 days a week to experience endgame, I'll go back to WoW, which is making 10-man versions of all dungeons.
Come to think of it, Blizzard must be pretty worried to be making the radical changes it has been making lately.
Wow is the simpllistic mmo for evry tom dick and harry. Aoc is the better game but that's just my opinion. But honestly it dosn't matter howmuch better a game is compared to wow because simply nothing will just suddenly pull aways people from the mmo they are comfortable with.
One thing I wanted to say to the 'naysayers'. The so called technical problems that people moan about have vanished. If you think aoc will fail or be the second vg you will soon see that your predictions are absolutely wrong. Not saying this is a game for evryone gameplay and systemrequirementswise but I felt that needed to be pointed out.
the biggest reason it wont be a wow killer is the high specs required to play this game .this has automatically limited the amount of people that will subscribe to it and thus limited its success . depending on what you believe in these forums it does or does nt perform well on mid range machines . i m going with what i ve seen personally and from what i ve heard from friends .that being it performs relativly well in open areas on lower settings but freezes up pretty badly when the game gets into populated areas on an average pc on the beta client .
if this is true of the release client funcoms developers may have overestimated what the average mid range system is capable of at this present time , if this is the case i think we ll see a success story maybe on the level of lord of the rings at best .
time will tell .
personally i hope it does well the last thing that the mmo community needs is another failed big name mmo .
Just wait until people see the HUGE difference in performance and content that there will be compared to the versions they've seen. I'm tellin' ya, this game is fucking AWESOME.
Agreed. Makes me wish I could afford a brand new pc RIGHT NOW - not because my lower end old pc can't play it, but because I know I'm missing out on so much detail and beauty...
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.
I'm being serious. This game may truly be the WoW killer. Not now, but in a course of a few years. Think about it
600,000 early access slots - ALL SOLD OUT All 200,000 or so CE - SOLD OUT 1 million have applied for beta Better graphics, better combat - AoC leads the way for next-gen MMOs; WoW users may become tired of raiding/graphics during the next few years and switch WoW loses servers - AoC gains more servers This generation seems to be a lot about graphics and word of mouth advertising - perfect, AoC has excellent graphics
AoC is just exploding in sales. To what I've read, pre-orders are up to 800,000. Almost 1 million subs in the first day of release. Now imagine how the game will expand? Call me a sceptic, but I truly believe this game is The One.
I hope you not serious and do not mean what you said, as i find it sad that people need a new game to be a WOW killer, let WOW be what it is, aprox 10mil enjoy it, why should it be killed ( oh and i aint playing WOW, left 2/3 years ago and only played it for near a year from beta/release)
But, like with every new game i do hope that the game will do well, but i never will hope one game will kill another game, as all games are enjoyed by diffferent people.
Why can't people just want to have a good game why oh why does it always have to be a WOW-killer
Boobs and violence + fatigue with other games + established IP + school's almost out = big AoC launch numbers. AoC is not a WoW killer. People leaving WoW to play AoC are most likely just bored with WoW, and AoC just happens to be the next big thing.
I agree. AoC is a fad that will fade by Fall when many new alternatives become available. AoC's system requirements and design choices will limit its long term appeal. Playability has made WoW successful despite its flaws. The proliferation of new MMO's will erode the WoW subscriber base in any case.

I have to agree. Why do people want to see the demise of WoW? Both games are what they are. It's as if they can't coexist and one or the other must be stopped. I enjoyed WoW then (a year ago) and I will enjoy AoC now.
All of these WoW killer discussions are stupid. Just because there are 10 million WoW players doesn't mean there are 10 million mmorpg players. Millions of people play WoW who have no intention of ever playing another online game. WoW is a phenomenon and gaming companies need to stop developing games in the hope of getting 10 million players.
All of these WoW killer discussions are stupid. Just because there are 10 million WoW players doesn't mean there are 10 million mmorpg players.Technically, that's exactly what it means... Any wow player is counted as a mmo player. It's a pretty simple definition. Millions of people play WoW who have no intention of ever playing another online game. By your interpretation, many of those 10 million never intended to play wow either. WoW is a phenomenon and gaming companies need to stop developing games in the hope of getting 10 million players.
AoC may or may not end up up with millions of players , but there's no denying its going to be hugely successful, WoW is WoW and has and probably still will be one of the most extraordinary success stories of modern times and there's no denying WoW's sheer quality !
Damn, I hate these threads. Makes me laugh the posters giving it "OMG, this game is amazing, It's the best mmorpg evar". Come back and say that in 2-3 months when the game has an established community and end game. You can't tell jack yet.
As for the acolyte posts, i usually just skip them. I don't think they have said a negative thing about this game.
That said, I really do hope funcom pull it off, I don't want to wait another 6 months for a decent mmorpg.
Please note these are my opinions, I obviously don't think they hold true for everyone:) Do I think the game is awesome? Absolutely. I really enjoy the combat sequences, the graphics are amazing, and TBH I think they put *alot* of work into the various quests & missions (especially the Destiny ones). Do I think it will be a WoW killer? No. WoW itself will be the ultimate WoW killer. There will be many up & coming 'next new things', and eventually the desire for 'that old game' will fade away, just like the days of MUDs and MUSHs. WoW will only be able to re-invent it's already borrowed wheel, until most people have finally just had enough with it. It won't close a la E&B; it won't just disappear one day a la Ryzom. WoW has had it's run, and I think that over the next few years, you'll see subscription numbers dissipating, but I don't think you'll ever see it go away, for a very long time (hell, EQ is still open...and Horizons:) There are games down the line that I am looking forward to: Fallen Earth, heck even Warhammer; I retired my WoW characters just about a year ago now, and I'd never go back. What I'll be playing in the future, though, is definitely up in the air. For now, however, AoC will be it:)
Pretty much sums up exactly what I am thinking so no point in repeating. Personally I don't give a crap what other games are doing, its not a competition! If I like the game and the community is strong then I don't care if 1 million people tells me it blows. Really want to play this game and my pre-order seems miles away
I do plan to quite playing W.O.W in order to play A.O.C. As well a few of my W.O.W friends. But I truly doubt this will kill W.O.W. Their are people who will always be loyal to W.O.W not mention the fact Wotlk will be coming out at the end of this year. But I think that A.O.C will be the first true competition that W.O.W has seen and they will have to fix things like servers and gold farmers but it wont be long before those issues hit A.O.C just the nature of the MMorpg beast.
Indeed Wow is MILES above any other MMORPG in game play and has set the standard for all future MMORPG's to come. 10.7 million poeple playing the game are ALL morons but YOU are intelligent.
Yep 10.7 million sheep playing one game. Yes I am intelligent. WoW stole most of everything as far as game mechanics, in the beginning, from EQ and just dumbed them down.
In the end WoW is just another raiding game. Spend tons of time with 25 people in specific dungeons waiting on someone to make a mistake and wipe the raid so you can start all over again. I wouldn't call people who play WoW dumb. Just easily entertained.
Stopped eating on that plot of grass for some time. These days I chose quality over quantity. I also chose to use my brain and not follow every other person in the world to the "In product".

the biggest reason it wont be a wow killer is the high specs required to play this game .this has automatically limited the amount of people that will subscribe to it and thus limited its success . depending on what you believe in these forums it does or does nt perform well on mid range machines . i m going with what i ve seen personally and from what i ve heard from friends .that being it performs relativly well in open areas on lower settings but freezes up pretty badly when the game gets into populated areas on an average pc on the beta client .
if this is true of the release client funcoms developers may have overestimated what the average mid range system is capable of at this present time , if this is the case i think we ll see a success story maybe on the level of lord of the rings at best .
time will tell .
personally i hope it does well the last thing that the mmo community needs is another failed big name mmo .
Agreed. Makes me wish I could afford a brand new pc RIGHT NOW - not because my lower end old pc can't play it, but because I know I'm missing out on so much detail and beauty...
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
But, like with every new game i do hope that the game will do well, but i never will hope one game will kill another game, as all games are enjoyed by diffferent people.
Why can't people just want to have a good game why oh why does it always have to be a WOW-killer

WoW is a phenomenon and gaming companies need to stop developing games in the hope of getting 10 million players.
and this precludes a new phenomenon?
your post is full of fail.
AoC may or may not end up up with millions of players , but there's no denying its going to be hugely successful, WoW is WoW and has and probably still will be one of the most extraordinary success stories of modern times and there's no denying WoW's sheer quality !
.............triple jump, king me
can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.
Ps. OP learn to dictionary
Just my two cents.
