If AOC can do recenable good launch then I guess alot of WoW players will think twice about switching over.  There seems to be almost a year till WOTLK is out and last content patch has already been released.   Alot of players will be looking for something new since WOW can no longer bring out anything new.  It will be pretty much same old from now on.   Deathknight will be a massive mistake for the MMO comunity and as far as PVP is conserned...  Not worth mentioning.

What will happen is that the ppl that can't upgrade their pcs will have to stick with WoW the others will most likely move on.

AOC has huge potentials when it comes to longterm gameplay.   The game could be running for the next 10 years with current graphic engine and still be compatable in terms of quality.  WOW is already outdated and their item system in terms of coloring is one of the worst of any modern MMOs out atm.

I desided to quit WOW cause the game took a turn that I didnt like.  Blizzard desided to sell their MMO game for a 2v2 arena battles - and give those 2 ppl same rewards as others that had to work alot harder for it.  Thats a big falure.

Best thing about it all.  The addicts that have been playing wow for 3 years wont have money to spend to update their PCs.  They are stuck with WoW.  Those that actually kept going with their lives, went to school, and work - they have the PCs to play AOC and enjoy that game.

WOW is the Poor mans game from now on.   The quality and the balance is not acceptable in the MMOs of today.  And defently not in the next 2-3 years.

600,000 early access slots - ALL SOLD OUT
All 200,000 or so CE - SOLD OUT
1 million have applied for beta
Better graphics, better combat - AoC leads the way for next-gen MMOs; WoW users may become tired of raiding/graphics during the next few years and switch
WoW loses servers - AoC gains more servers
This generation seems to be a lot about graphics and word of mouth advertising - perfect, AoC has excellent graphics

AoC is just exploding in sales. To what I've read, pre-orders are up to 800,000. Almost 1 million  subs in the first day of release. Now imagine how the game will expand? Call me a sceptic, but I truly believe this game is The One.
Get real SUCKER? if anything can go up against WOW this will..

I'm glad we have WAR, actually, so people like you won't be soiling AoC. Go play with your orcs and elves, and leave Hyboria to the big boys.

That's the question ... HOW many will keep paying after the first free month AND for how many more months ???
Now HERE is the basic reason why the following graph hits the bottom line:
    http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart7.html
There must be a reason why in the last 3 years only few people stayed with each newly  launched MMORPG.
Wow killers need to have more than launched hypes.
IF not: each FAILED MMORPG attempt risks (after 1 month) to even reinforce Wow's marketshare.

The numbers on that site are not truly what matches to the real market...example: NPD marking LOTRO as the 3rd largest MMO (who woulda thunk it)

So...it is true...we will not know who will be right until a couple of months pass...

All i know is I liked what I saw of AoC, and I plan to try it out for the 30 days...then decide how I feel

As a WoW killer though???? Nope...dont see it...too niche to be a killer

I predict that a lot of the AoC players will be playing WoW for the first couple of weeks as server queues and stability factor into their playtime.

    WoW 2.0?...AWESOME

Warhammer still has a lousy animation sequence.

The video proves it again: PvP for 70 year olds. Compare this to the thousands of PvP videos of Wow on the web. Wow = Pure adrenaline and action based in PvP animation : while this Warhammer video shows that this part of the game is NOT exciting at all.

A pity because I LOVE Warhammer lore.

WAR may look like WoW if you have your WoW-tinted goggles on.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    Order of the White Border.

nor have you played while your 600k people were all trying to play at the same time...

what you want to hope for is a slow start to this game that ramps up slowly over time allowing FunCom to incrementally improve their servers...

its like that UPS commercial a while back where the people were watching the number of orders coming in and it starts to take off too fast and they get scared.

FunCom could easily be a victim of their own success or propaganda at this point...It took WOW quite a while to fit into its shoes, months of long server queues and weekly maintenance.

    best of luck though

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." (Skeptic)

Aside from seeing a place to use that quote so perfectly, I don't think it has the polish or innovation to be a wow killer. Although, it may well so some serious subscription damage to some of the other games on the market like lotro, eq2, lineage etc. At least it's not yet another high fantasy game... and that alone will pull some people.

I think long before you see a "wow killer" type game you're going to see wow's population disperse into several games... but first you've got to see wow completely peak and start losing population, which it hasn't yet done. Part of wow's success is its graphics-- accessibility... it runs well even on an old laptop with a poor video card... no new game is going to heavily appeal to people who don't have a computer that can run it... and only the serious geeks upgrade to play games for the most part... rest of the world just goes "oh god this game sucks i can't play it." never realizing that its not the game, its their computer.

I am 33 with 2 kids and have a life...I bought a new PC just for Age of Conan...

Thirty years of gaming experience...not sure if I should be proud of that

Any wow player is counted as a mmo player.  It's a pretty simple definition.  Millions of people play WoW who have no intention of ever playing another online game. By your interpretation, many of those 10 million never intended to play wow either.  WoW is a phenomenon and gaming companies need to stop developing games in the hope of getting 10 million players.

and this precludes a new phenomenon?

your post is full of fail.

It doesn't preclude a new phenomenon but AoC ain't it.
