JY, lets start out simple here. Just because you have an opinion doesn't make it right, worth listening to, or valid.
With that said, you're arguing over something you've yet to experience in the game. I address this in my post above, but are you telling me that 100 people in the same zone as you isn't enough for you to interact with and keep your immersion?
Have you ever played World of Warcraft? Other than some place like Iron Forge, where aroudn 75% of the population is AFK or playing with auction house, when is the last time you entered a zone with 100 other people? Could you imagine trying to get quests done in Feralas, Ungoro, Thousand Needles, or any other zone with 100 other people competing for the same mobs or drops?
You're just not thinking clearly about the issue. Chances are that outside of the usually waste-of-time general chat you're either only participating with your group or your guild. Do you really wander across the zone talking to every single person you meet, unhappy when you're not seeing 200 people all trying to slaughter the same small boar spawn point?
So there you go. Yes, I don't think its immersion breaking. Sure, it can be annoying to take 5 seconds, or however long your computer loads the next screen, to load an instance to be with your friends, but does that matter when its making sure your game is running smoothly and that the area you're in isn't over populated?
Give the game some time and much like Everquest 2, when they've had time to tweak the code and make it stronger, and when server populations have settled down and player levels have spread out, the player cap per instance could increase.
To me it s an immersion thing and yes 30 people does make a difference then 400. Why do you think your end game pvp mass sieges consist of 48 vs 48 in an instance border kingdom. If that doesn t effect the game to you then nothing will. To me it s game breaking. If you don t feel so great, but to me i want huge battles etc not oh boy look guys here comes the 48 enemies we knew were coming for 2 hours now.
Beyond just limitations, it's also to you know...
BALANCE THE GAME.
encourage MORE guilds to get involved in pvp.
you can't balance 400vs400, and still expect to have any semblence of balance between 1v1 or 8v8. Why do you think DAoC is known as the stronger nerf bat swinger of all time?
If you call balance, standing around with casters for 30 minutes untill one side gets brave enough to send some melee in to die(yes, die, not do anything) then yeah it's easy to balance the game.
But beyond that, why does it break immersion? I get immersed in oblivion and i'm standing alone in a field. Why? Because the games quality.
Why do you NEED to see 400 people around to feel immersed, chances are your not going to talk to ANY of them.
Again, your looking to hae immersion being broken.
Well to say it bluntly , to ME it does i hate limitations. I know every game will have it in some aspects but i wanted AOC for it s pvp and this to me is why i won t buy it and i m sure some others feel the same way.
If you like your zoning etc have it i don t care i m just explaining why i don t. I hate zoning into a merchant shop etc. There is no reason for that at all.

Hate to say it, but tuff cookies. I cannot think of ANY game on the market that allows for massive battles of that size. Even single player games do not allow for battles of that size.
To be fair we pushed 150-200 on SWG quite often. Unfortunately it turned into a literal slideshow with up to a minute or two between animations. That or it just brought the entire server down.
The fact of the matter is, with how much information current games are putting out and the strain it puts on your computer, the bandwidth, and the server, it just isn't feasible to have such a large number unless you're running a graphics engine from 5-7 years ago.

The pvp will still be fun man. Sure it won't be your perfect implementation of pvp, but it'll still be fun, theres no reason to miss out on 80 levels of fun, and then fun pvp, just because it's not your perfect version.
I don't like zoning, i just accept it, because when i'm not zoning, my gameplay will be even more fun then it would otherwise!
And for the record, a lot of the zoning disappears once you hit 20 and move into the rest of the world.

As much as i hate saying it. But you should probably be more realistic. Nothing against you personally, but your never gonna be happy if you hold such high standards regarding every aspect of gameplay being perfect
*edit* man what a typo. The pain of typing posts out in less then 30 seconds, because I have to rush before the raids ready for the boss in wow
Instancing doesn't happen until there are hundreds of people in a zone. Even if there was a small cap of 100 people in a zone, how would this affect you? Are you going to be interacting with all 99 other people in the zone? How many times have you went into the main hub of an MMO and talked to every single person there?
You haven't, so get over it. Whether you're seeing a 100 people or 500 people it doesn't matter. The zone is populated and never over crowded. If you're worried about being with your guild or some such, instance hopping takes care of that in seconds.
Honestly, people get worked up over the smallest issues in MMO's as if thousand year old traditions are changing every day.
You're failing to see the point. This is supposed to be a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER R P G, not a 100 man instanced zone fest.
I want everyone in the zone on my screen because perhaps Man Z who is in my zone is a complete moron while Man X who is in the other instanced of the same zone is a better player, but i will never know that or be able to SHOUT in chat for a competent player that way.
This is not a small issue. It's not truly an MMO if it has instanced zones like that. Hell, I'm not even a fan of instanced raid dungeons.
A lot of you seem to be a bunch of tards who started off with WoW, while the rest of us intelligent "cry babies" played games like UO, AC, EQ, and DAoC. Those were MMOs.
And now that I know this(because I actually wasn't aware of this. I thought they meant zone lines, not instanced zones) I will not be buying AoC.
AoC's PvP sounds like a fucking WoW clone of Alterac Valley. I'm tired of shit shyte too.
PVP IS NOT MEANT TO BE INSTANCED WITH PREDETERMINED NUMBERS!!
PvP is random, chaotic, not calculated, or fare. You should be at a disadvantage with skill or numbers or have the advantage.
I guess Star Wars Galaxies spoiled me. I got used to entire worlds being available without instancing and loading screens. Even my house was actually in-game and not inside some silly instance where nobody would see my rare loot on display.
Having said that, I dont buy the excuse that Funcom had to instance everything because of the demanding graphics. Yes the graphics are more advanced than SWG, but so is the technology. Servers are ten times faster than they were 5 years ago.
I suspect one culprit for the instancing....XBOX360

You're the man
I'm still going to be buying AoC though... FFA PvP servers are just too fun to pass up and like i said earlier, outside of controlled sieges or minigames there does not seem to be multiple instances in areas outside of tortage
I'm sorry but, i'm a real pvper, and i like competing against equally skilled opponents, if my guild becomes the best from skill, tactics, and co-ordination. I think the pvp system is far better than rewarding because of superior numbers.
*edit*
SWG from my experiences, was a very dull boring world outside of points of interest... but thats just imho.
The Xbox *might* have something to do with it, but from what I have heard so far it is possible that PC gamers won't even be playing with Xboxers, hopefully that isn't the case.
Anyhow this will go around in circles, some people just can't accept technological limitations and want everything on a silver platter.
To the people that can accept and work within the limitations, see you in pvp. To the rest, sorry that you have to miss out , let me know when you find ANY mmo that comes close to AoC and doesn't have instancing or any limits, and then maybe I'll stop playing AoC...

Druz - The FFA PvP was what actually got me interested in AoC, but the fact it's just a glorified WoW BG is not appealing to me. I hope you enjoy it thoroughly and never get bored of predetermined pvp.
Bladin - You're not a real pvper if you think instanced pvp is cool and "authentic". You sound like someone who thinks the WoW BG system is epic and exciting and would probably cry if you had to pvp over raid bosses.
Now I can deal with instanced raid dungeons...though i miss the EQ days of fighting other guilds for rights to a certain boss.
But instanced pvp with predetermined numbers? No thanks.

I can point out a game that's exactly like AoC and doesn't have instanced World zones
It's called WoW and though it's a piece of shit game, it's still better than AoC because at least WoW doesn't try to lie about what it is, another carebear MMO for casual players.

Don t want to start a fight but IMO a real pvper has to adapt to being outnumbered. They need to die gracefully and regroup and figure out a way to defeat it. IMO a real pvper needs to assess the situation be it bad or good and adjust accordingly. A real pvper shouldn t know when and how many are coming to attack. This is my point it should all be about the suprise and strategy not predetermined anything. Not only does this game let me know how many are attacking but when??? That just blows my mind.

You obviously haven't played AoC as you really have no clue, if you have played it, next time you should read the game rating before you open the box. Please go back to the WoW forums where you quite obviously belong.
I shouldn't keep feeding the trolls but I guess I can't help myself.
I'll have multiple instances of a zone when there are a large number of players on over a camped beyond a joke for Quest content a seamless world would have any day. I community can turn very nasty fast in seamless worlds over disputes over content.

That is a good point actually. Don't get me wrong there are definitely drawbacks with instances, but there are also benefits.
As usual you will never please everyone, but the majority of players either won't care about instances or won't even know about them.
Personally I find the benefits outweight negatives for my style of play.
please people... we aren't talking world pvp here, we are talking guild based pvp activities. DaoC swg were all world pvp, these aren't. riddle m this How do you decide which guild takes a keep if anyone can get in? How do you protect against midnight raids without it being instanced? How do you allow guilds to want keeps, and actually reep benefits if tyhe average keep time was less then a day How do you open up pvp for more guilds without only allowing the uberguilds a shot at even taking one. It's called balance, your fantasy ideas of worthless pvp or different types, don't apply.
1. Anyone should be able to get in, constant struggle for a keep=fun
2. You don t if a midnight raid happens , take it back it s fun to take a keep back you ve lost to a gutless group. Or you could have alliances even with a different time zone guild to help you out when you re not there. Thus they can get some mini bonus for helping out. Maybe use of your PVE city for crafting or whatever. You can tax them make some money of them in return for their help and their safety from your much bigger guild. This will also play into a more political system, one day they might get sick of you and rebel, well then it s another fight, but i think you get the idea.
3. If it s less then a day to reap the benefits make it so there are more then 9 (i think) to fight over total.
4. Use alliances, see 2.
There are alot better ways to do the pvpin this game IMO and they just didn t even come close. To say 48 vs 48 is for a real pvper is well i won t go there.

No, it's called badly thought-out last minute patching of a badly thought-out core game design.
Leucent , i guess everyone has very different opinions on their ideal PvP experience. For me I would take 48v48 over 100v100 any day, I just feel like its a bit more controlled and you get a chance to use better tactics.
Also I hated in DaoC how you would fight for a keep and then after a goods nights sleep a small group has taken it. At least this way, while it may not be as dynamic, you can be there for the battle.
Maybe what they needed to do was have different types of keeps so that you could acheive both things and please more people at once, but you have to draw the line somewhere I guess!
