I'm not playing, but more importantly, I'm not buying or subscribing to AoC after what everyone has said.
People bought AoC Collector's Editions of the game with 10 buddy keys, but those buddy keys are no good. WTF is the point of joining a game one or two months after all of your friends are 80 and off doing their own thing. I'm very disappointed in Funcom's AoC Buddy Key portion of the C.E.
From what I'm reading, instancing to the degree Funcom has taken it is a game breaker for me. You have to "learn the system" to be able to keep up with your friends in the MMO world? That is just insane. Crafting, don't even get me started. From everything I read, they should have just left crafting out of the game.
I'm more a social gamer and don't like instancing so this game won't be the game for me. Love Conan. Great lore. Just hate to see a game with so much potential have immersion ruined by playing hippity hop in a "Age of Clonan".
Good luck to you all and it has been nice discussing Conan with you over the past few years.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Two of my good friends have already cancel there account reasons: 1) Far to much instanced in the game 2) PvP is simple buttonsmashing 3) Game is still in beta, bugs 4) Tech spec is too high 5) Community
same for me. (same reasons)
1) Only pre-lvl20
2)This is plain wrong. Try button mashing against a good player and he would beat you 1vs3
3) It has bugs like any other MMO at launch (and some 4years from launch). None Game-breaking and less than most MMOs at launch.
4)Specs are high for high quality graphics. you can run the game fine at low by following the minimum requirements.
5)Community... I don't have a problem with that personally. Though I'm sure it's not that bad on your server to just ditch the game because of it.
But, I'll give it another shot tonight and sit through that hour long install again... So far I've done about 5 different classes all up to around lv10-ish and besides the fatalities and running around naked, I'm not having much fun with it. The graphical bugs are driving me crazy, not to mention the annoying combat system that is not much more than smashing buttons, pressing a combo, then smashing those buttons in order...
I was really looking forward to it with all the hype built up, and I've been crushed under the massive disappointment I've received through my first week playing it.
For the record am pleased with the game , am ganna stay for a long long time . too bad for the others that ONLY played 3 days to judge.
Yes 3 days played is early to judge, but when you read what the game is about a later level, still the same old things, no quests, grinding, it doesnt sound like its getting any better, in fact it's getting worst.
too much instancing not enuf open world.. technical issues with it running on some computer... same ol same ol' MMO not enuf to keep me playing....
i see you play eve....that game is more instance than AOC.
they are just called gates in eve
You have no idea what instancing mean I see, EvE has zones not instances. There is not a single zone in AoC as you can only have 48 ppl in one instance then they create a new one for people to join while they don't do that in EvE do they?
Instancing aka. parallel universes is utter bullcr*p.
When my EVE account was last active, I used to visit Jita frequently. More than 900 players in one star system. The lag was horrible, sure, but one could feel the "togetherness". Isk scammers, faction item sellers etc. Just like a real breathing bazaar of a galactic scale. I'm glad I got to experience Jita. There is nothing like Jita in AoC, unlikely there ever will be.
I'm glad I got to try AoC in closed beta. There was excitement, sure, but the negative things began to eat their way into my gaming experience to the point that I couldn't make myself to log in. Instancing was the biggest issue for me. The single player portions, very few 'elite' mobs that would force you to group up (maybe I didn't play long enough to see any), the general feel of 'unfinishedness' and a very limited amount of in-game items didn't help either. I played the beta for about 2 weeks before un-installing.
Not really related, but read on if you want to - What made me cancel my EVE account was that an alliance war ruined our corporation financially. Seeing our corp's control tower + structures getting ravaged by an utterly overwhelming force wasn't exactly entertaining. The best we had was a handful of battleships that were precious to us since we weren't bathing in currency. Our opposition had multiple capital ships and superior experience. It was our fault to invest in a control tower + structures since we couldn't afford to lose them, I know. But damn, was it exciting to own a small space station. It was fun while it lasted. Also, I made the game a job for myself, I didn't delegate corporation duties enough, I ended up burning myself out. My corporation co-founder was a slacker and had very limited online hours.
I just cancelled. I am a gaurdian level 50 on a pvp server (tyranny) and I made it there within 4 days casually playing and doing quests. I had no need to ever group and the instancing (zoning) was bothering me. I crashed a lot in "field of the dead" zone and I played that area with my system sound turn off. This game does not make me want to continue to level 80. Many people have told me that guild villages and other housing is useless at the moment (no special buffs or signficance in the world). My experiences in dungeons and so called "group instances" have been riddled with bugs and bosses being glitched (mobs gliding, walking through walls).
Much of the gathering and crafting is broken right now as well as the trader (auction house/bank).
My opinion of the game is that eventually, the game will be patched and fixed but no one knows when (poor communication from FC). The game seems like its been developed for a console rather than a PC (lots of solo elements such as villa instances which forces you to solo quest). My advice to people who wish to continue playing and is annoyed by the griefing of ressurection spots, just reload into a different instance through the options available on the interface. Overall, this game is not rewarding or intense so far at lvl 50. I have a bunch of quests that are pretty much similar to level 1-20 and my gear, definintly not the best (but blue), still look the same when I was lvl 10.
Why do I have a hard time believing you casualled to 50 in 4?
I actually had Early Access which helped me progress quickly. Also, the quests are ridiculously easy with all the marks on the mini maps(not that it's bad). I just happened to do all the quests I guess. Also, My "casual playing" might differ from your definition but I played a good 5 hours a day (student on break).
5 hours a day is hardly casual if you have a day job. It's actually pretty hardcore.
Assuming you work 8 hours per day ...
... you sleep 6 hours and it takes another 2 hours for going back and forth from work, eat, bathe, go to toilet etc ...
... that leaves 8 hours of free time per day. If you spend 5 of them in an MMO, you're spending 65% of your free time online. A real casual wouldn't be spending more than 20% (I'm generous), which amounts to roughly 1.5 hours per day. In fact a casual wouldn't have every day available for gaming.
and the graphics are like mc cains wife . at a distance they could fool you that its hot . but when you get up close you can see its mutton dressed as lamb :P
Some of bashers here have bad arguments. Not to mention sandorf who is aperently on holy crusade against AOC.
If i summon up all comments against AOC:
instances - it's not as instanced as GW (played it from beginning so can compare both), and yet GW had many milion players. So as it seems many liked it (still one of best PVPs), so istances didn't make GW bad game. It's just matter of taste. You don't like it, move along.
Comparing to other games - strange how many see AOC as WOW and in the same time AOC as GW. Yet WOW and GW are completly different games, or have different aproach on fantasy online gaming.
Graphics - some say it's good but ... (yes o course instances), others it's just crap. Any game developers here, that can confirm, what is so bad with AOC graphics? Any other good looking MMRPG's to compare with?
Buggy - Now how many bugs WOW had first months? ... Best polished start had LOTRO, and i doubt even WAR can match it. We will discuss that when it comes out, thats for sure.
But then again, it would not be interesting on game forums if we hadn't Quake vs. Doom, WOW vs Guild wars, WOW vs AOC vs WAR ...

That guy needs to take a deep breath, if he has issue with something why does he keep purusing it? Thats what all the bashers have to ask themselves. AoC cannot change its design which has been known years now. Its never been marketed as seamless. Its just the WoW fans that got the game without reading up on it.

What first born doesnt cry first b4 smiling?
Hey now, I'm a WoW fan. Matter of fact, I'm a fan of a lot of MMOGs. This game was made by the company that brought us AO, so I knew they liked instances. I just didn't realize all the zone cloning that make the game be known as Age of Clonan.
Tonight, I shall hear the baby cry.

WOW dungeons are instanced allowing just a few people. AOC dungeons are not.
I'll continue my subscription to Age of Conan until I get bored (as I do with most MMORPG's) and revisit as substantial expansions and updates are released.
I imagine a 2 to 4 month subscription time for AoC. After which I will cancel if nothing further compels me to continue a subscription and then a revisit every 6 months to a year thereafter.
I wonder what did reviewers from GameZone and AtomicGamer eat to give AOC 92 and 94 from 100? - Or is it that AOC is just a good game, with some flaws of course.
Yet we have wannabe professionals on this forum who know more about AOC then professional reviewers or players who find AOC good and fun.
We can expect some scores of 80's and 70's, but that doesn't mean AOC is bad as some would like to picture it here.

There more games developed and released this year (hopefully). One of them might be to your liking.
Variety is good
AoC is like Obama. All hype and no substance.
No, I haven't cancled our 2 subscriptions. Both my wife and I are enjoying the game.
"Don't corpse-camp that idea. Its never gonna rez"
Bladezz (The Guild)
ok after uninstalling after less than a week you either
a) did no research on the game you were buying
b) not your style of game(legit reason)
c) hows that saying go" a fool and their money are soon departed"
The following statement is false
