I despise illiteracy or intellectual laziness. Get it right before your high school English teachers slap your parents. It takes less than one minute to proofread (you internet generation dancing monkeys might have to look that one up) a post. I'm not talking about typos here ... That’s right… not everyone here is English. Many members on these forums are French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese and such. If you’re english from the U.S.A , England or vice versa then yes, you might want to ensure that your english is proper but your post is basically proving that you do not think much of the rest of the world.
I think a lot of people here are doing efforts in speaking english when it is not their primary language. How about you make an effort and tolerate a little bit more?
I would love to see you write a full post in French, German or Chinese perhaps. Sorry if your intention was not to tell the whole world that you do not aknowledge them but next time, think before posting.
I'm sure the OP would certainly accept the fact that English is not everyone's primary language. He targeted this to those who are British or American, where English is the primary language. No, the OP is a 50 year old Male from Glenview, IL, United States. Now, where he comes from doesn’t really bother me. What bothers me is that a 50 year old person is trying to educate everyone by bypassing one simple fact: Not everyone is english.

Educating the community with knowledge is cool, what makes me mad is this:

They dont pronounce their words more clearer, they just don't speak as fast as us American's. American's are always in a rush for some reason and we speak fast to not waste much time. Don't ask me why this is but you will understand when you try to talk to a teenage girl in America.
American's speak the American version of English with American only words and American only slang.
British use proper English with their own slang and words.
Same basic rules of English but not the same. Same for Arabic, alot of Countries speak Arabic but not all Arabic speaking countries can understand each other.
My point is that "proper" English rules do not apply to American English.... I know I know... WTF is American English. Well American English is the version of English we speak here in America.
American is a melting pot and because of this our version of English is different then proper english.

Wow................ that was great, seriously, I agree with you. We have a guy telling us how to speak properly when video games has created a whole new language (so to speak). "Txt-speak" or more often known as LEET speak, I look at the gaming world as a new form of society that has evolved from the rest of the world. So if you don't like how some people speak or pronounce THEIR words you should just..........shut up and find an english forum or something!

I'll stick up for my fellow "elitist snob."
1) The OP is posting about posting in a forum--not in-game communication. Yes, in combat or other game activities, there are usually more urgent matters to attend to than proper spelling and grammar. In a forum such as this, posters should have the time to quickly proofread their writing before hitting that "Post Message" button.
2) Posters whose first language is not English are in a different category of English speakers than native English speakers, as are people with learning disabilities or other conditions which might hinder the clarity of their posts. A regular poster of another board I frequent has a medical condition that makes typing very difficult. I can usually decipher her messages, but not always.
3) If you joined a forum to practice a foreign language, wouldn't you like the other posters to use proper spelling and grammar? Doesn't really do any good to figure out a code for a language you don't know.
For disclosure's sake, I posted something similar about Loose and Lose over in the Off-topic forum.
------------- The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.
A mistake here or there is one thing, but seriously, if you can't tell the difference between there, their, and they're, you need to stop posting on forums and try reading up and educating yourself.
Also, some people claim they're perfectly capable of using spelling/grammar correctly in their professional life, yet don't want to do so because they're not on the clock. But if you can't take the time and energy to write up a post that's free of basic spelling errors, then why the hell should I (or anyone) take the time to care about anything you write? If your thoughts are so important, take some time and a little pride in what you write.
Then - conclusion, succession; example: "... and then we arrived at the dragon's lair!" or "... we landed on the planet and then we started the survey."
Than - comparison; example: "My armor is stronger than yours".
English is such an easy language (no wonder it's called Basic in Star Wars and common in D&D, lol) it's hard to believe 99% of gamers can't get it right.
I am probably guilty of some of these sometimes and it's probably because I just don't care I'm not an English teacher nor am I going to hire any of these people for a job so it does not make much of a difference to me, the way I see it is they or me may be too stupid to know the correct uses or they may care little enough about impressing the public forum readers to not make these mistakes but I'm certainly intelligent enough to know what they mean to say.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Get over it. Those that make these mistakes probably speak english as a second or third language. I'd bet their french, german, korean... is better than yours
I am a big supporter of proper grammar. It makes reading things on the internet A LOT easier.
Solude, I understand what you mean, but if the posters who don't speak english make these mistakes and they go uncorrected, how can we expect them to get better. The same goes for any language!
But leet speak provides much more entertainment in a thread, and it gives the grammar Nazis something to bitch about.

You should be glad dumb people are spelling bad online. It's better than them going out and commiting hideous crimes. Yes, it's true. Dumb people are the only people that commit crimes. So give them something better to do (like play an MMO) and hope to God they always have something better to do besides making other lives miserable.

Do you really believe that? Because there are lots of intelligent people comminting crimes, and lots of dumb people that don't.
And saying that someone with a bad spelling is dumb and prone to commiting a crime is absurd.

You think robbing a bank successfully is easy or something?
Some of the most intelligent people are criminals.
What they do isn't always wise or a good decision, but some are extremely intelligent.
Ok first of all i'm not a native english speaker, it's my second language.
I do agree with the OP. Correctly spelled english is much easier to read, even more for us non native speakers. Now i'm not a grammar maniac, and I don't expect everyone to write perfect english, but please... Your and you're? They're and their? This is one of the most basic thing in the english language!
And to the people getting offended when they are being pointed at their mistakes, I don't get it. Don't you want to improve? I would thank these people unless they are being arrogant and/or they are looking at every little single mistake.
Also writing improper english can lead non native speakers to repeat your mistakes thinking it's the right way to write it. For instance I did not know that "would of" was incorrect, because noone ever told me.
wats da point to this thread really? u never heard of internet language? It not only happened in forum but everywhere. Wanna see the replys in facebook? or even MSN? u will c wat I mean.
1) I sometimes mistype homophones in haste, such as 'there' for 'their', because I'm thinking of the pronunciation first, not because my spelling is bad.
2) Proofreading chat or a post is often an afterthought, hence the common sight of an asterisked correction in game chat. In forums it definitely helps to use the preview function.
3) We need to distinguish between word abuse and phrase abbreviation. For example, typing 'ne' or '4' instead of 'any' or 'for' is confusing and either pseudo-hip or lazy. On the other hand, abbreviations such as 'afk', 'dot' and 'wts' are easy to recognize and save typing.
4) Chronic misuse, abuse and misspelling of English has a ripple effect. If you take time out from games and forums once in a while to read a few well-written books then we will all benefit. Buy a dictionary and challenge yourself. Rent the movie "Educating Rita" .
You'd be amazed at the number of resumes (CV for our British and Candian friends) that I've thrown into the trash of candidates for a job that requires a college degree, which had major spelling or grammatical errors. If you can't take the time to proof-read before sending it out, I'm not going to waste my time to interview you.
I really pray that it's due to laziness, and not poor education. (This doesn't apply to non-native English speakers. They at least try to learn and improve.)
As an old commercial said, "People really do judge you by the way you speak..." It also applies to how well you write.

I wish everyone thought the way you did. The world would actually be a better place. "Teach your children to have manners and they will grow up to be leaders". It's too bad society (the bad society, not the good society) teaches kids all the wrong values. And it's even more amazing how quickly children learn all the wrong values off the internet. If anything, the internet proves that mental disease can spread even through an electronic means... Am I the only person that realizes this?! And when I say "children", that includes teenagers and adults (18+) who still act childish. This is starting to become a major problem and I really don't see any kind of cure for it besides parents not allowing their children to get online or to at least regulate it! Would you want your kids hanging out with a bunch of people who you know are a bad influence on them? When people say "you gotta have common sense", or when a father says "don't be stupid", are those values no longer respected because I'm really starting to see tons of people online who lack common sense.
The english language is forever morphing. The people dont confirm to fit the language, the language conforms to fit the people. Words like "ain't" and "ya'll" have made their way into the dictionary, so whats so bad about people using shorter terms? I mean for crying out loud Snoop makes up words you can now find in the dictionary m'nizzle, f'sho.
I am sorry, but the punctuation for ya'll is incorrect. It is y'all, because y'all was derived from "you all". For example: "Do you all want to go to the movies?" Instead, southern people use it like so: "Do y'all want to go to the movies?" Note: not all southern people use the word y'all. It is most commonly found in the South Eastern United States.
The use of y'all is more prominent in the south, since that is where it originated from. In the North Eastern U.S. it is highly unlikely you will find someone using it. However, you are more likely to find them saying this instead: "Do you guys want to go to the movies?"
Very interesting indeed, how the English language has changed just from going North to South in the United States, no? Is is also interesting to note that different parts of the U.S. also have their own accents when talking. The different accents of talking and different styles of writing are not inherent to the U.S. only. Several countries around the world have different dialects and accents in their language, even though they are using the same language.
Heck, even the U.S. english language is far different than the English used in the United Kingdom. They still use words such as colour. Why does the U.S. not use the word colour? Because, after the revolutionary war it was a way to rebel against Britian. We changed street names from british lords and queens to the names of our presidents and founding fathers. We also removed several vowels from words in the English language that Britian used and still uses. In theory, the American english language is not only an offset of the British English language, but it is not the original English language either.

Perhaps more clarification would have been nice, but he never said that foreigners are intellectually lazy because they've learned English in addition to their native tongue.
British speak proper English. America speaks a version of English made for America.
Try talking to someone who is British and see if you can understand his/her english and tell me that British and American's version of English are the same.
Plus Who made up the rules of writing? Why do I have to follow them to be "smart"? I can speak much clearer then I write does that make me stupid? I think not, writing is an art form that not everyone can master.
Grammer and spelling? Who cares as long as you get the point.
Lets play a quick game. What does the line below say?
I w lk do n t e r ad to ay ju t for the fu of it.
British and Americans are a common people separated by a common language. So, do you mean the heavy accent is hard to understand or when they use British words, such as loo and john? Because you're right, sometimes I think they're speaking a whole new language!
But both British and Americans use their, they're, there, and you're, do they not? That's the main point of the post. The Internet just makes everything worse when it comes to speaking properly, because, well, you're not speaking at all.
I understand British English better then American English, maybe because we learn British English in German schools. They also pronounce the words more clear (at least for me).
Sooner or Later
Heh. I guess you've never heard anyone north of Essex speak!

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.
To = Going There/Sending there
Too = also
Two = 2
A mistake here or there is one thing, but seriously, if you can't tell the difference between there, their, and they're, you need to stop posting on forums and try reading up and educating yourself.
I totally agree. And I add:
Then - conclusion, succession; example: "... and then we arrived at the dragon's lair!" or "... we landed on the planet and then we started the survey."
Than - comparison; example: "My armor is stronger than yours".
English is such an easy language (no wonder it's called Basic in Star Wars and common in D&D, lol) it's hard to believe 99% of gamers can't get it right.
Oh, and by the way, it's "cannot", not "can not".
And reading another thread, I decided to add:
it's = it + is
its = possessive form of 'it'
I am probably guilty of some of these sometimes and it's probably because I just don't care I'm not an English teacher nor am I going to hire any of these people for a job so it does not make much of a difference to me, the way I see it is they or me may be too stupid to know the correct uses or they may care little enough about impressing the public forum readers to not make these mistakes but I'm certainly intelligent enough to know what they mean to say.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
I claim that I only missed one, as Jesus could have been a contemporary name.
That's fine i live in Nordrhein-Westfalen and can barely understand guys from Bavaria .
3Q 4 ur time
1) I sometimes mistype homophones in haste, such as 'there' for 'their', because I'm thinking of the pronunciation first, not because my spelling is bad.
Not trying to flame.. but isn't this off-topic?
Epic awesome me
I wish everyone thought the way you did.
