you fanbois are great. First you say, the comprehensive video will show us everything . Then after it only shows pvp you say " well.. umm.. I only wanted to see pvp... uh yea thats the ticket."

    you guys are hilarious

I have no idea what 'we' had said. But I don't think the video is flawless. Lacking content outside the main goal of the game, such as crafting is something I want to see myself. But I'm not burning cross or stick nails in dolls.

But keep enjoy yourself with us the 'fanbois'. We wont take your daily entertainment away... We pity you...

If you want something else then i suggest you do just as TdogSkal suggest you to do, join the Darkfall main website and describe what you wanna see.
Developers of Darkfall do listen to their community you know. That doesnt mean what you want in the next video will be there, but the odds sure do increases alot if you make suggestions.
    Have a nice one.

So nobody on the darkfall website wanted to know what  crafting was like? Nobody on the darkfall forums wanted to know what the PVE was like? Nobody on the Darkfall forums care about what the 500 skills are going to be?

Thats total nonsense and you know it

No dude, I didn't and still do not care.  What I care about is playing the game to find out more.  This information you say you want would essentially be used to decide whether or not someone wants to buy or try the game.  I don't need videos to help me make that decision.  I want to play the game, not try to evaluate the game before I've even logged in.

Yes! Its not all of them. But alot.

Its not as we get a big sign every time a skills is used.

Finally, a game where I can make money running and jumping and swimming. And with my uber running and jumping and swimming skills, I will make so much money I'll build my own city!

Ofcourse every other MMO without skills can show thier "special abilitys in a video..

But seriously, we dont know how many skills/spells we are seeing in that video. Some claim there is NO skills, and some think we are seeing about 50.

As i have said before, its not a big sign showing up every time a skill is used. And that alone seems to be hard for the PvE community to underdstand.

Same with "quests" and missions, we dont know from the video if they are on a quest or just randomly fighting.

You sir, should go back playing AoC or whatever crappy game you were playing, or maybe not, I will enjoy slaying you while you are trying to mock DF.

Who's to say they are not making another video to show you the other stuff.
FYI they also showed PvE battles in that video.

Comprehensive means everything. Comprehensive does not mean 99% PVP battles and 1% other stuff.

There is no reason not to add the other stuff. The only reason they wouldn't show it is if tits not done, or isn't in the game.

But keep on believing that comprehenseive means just showing PVP. I'm sure you will anyway.

The other reason not to show it, of course, is that they wanted to video to have a sense of focus, rather than a bunch of random shots.  While I agree that the video doesn't qualify as "comprehensive", it does show the central part of Darkfall, which is PvP combat.

I look forward to seeing more that shows the UI, crafting, etc, but just because it wasn't in this video does not mean that it must not be in game.

Other than the 1 second flash of a skill screen and showing a dwarf bang a hammer a bunch, they did not show any skilling. I suppose PvP hack-n-slash is what some people want, but I was hoping for a game that let players do what they want, including not PvP. Sure, the game would let you skill instead of PvP, if they are skills. But alas, just another niche game, aiming at a niche I'm not part of.

This game has a lot more going for it. If you're judging a game based on one video (while overexagerating its focus, there was an entire 7 minute chunk showing both PvE and exploration) then you are quite foolish. Learn to read and not to troll. This game has something for everyone, and probably the best real crafting environment since SWG, and definetly the best RP environment since UO.

Exactly. But this guy roguetech isnt here because he wants to be objective. He is here to exaggarate his opinion by trying to make the video a battle only video which it wasnt.

    The guy is a troll.

Funniest part with it is that we can all check the video out and see he is plain wrong.

Guess he didnt think of that the poor fella.

Excellent point. Since they do in fact show it, and fishing, they didn't skip it because it's a "PvP video", because they were concentrating on the "core" of the game, or they were only showing "exciting" parts, or whatever. Seems they may have given an in-depth view of a very shallow "feature".

Then please answer the orginal question... What tradeskills are in the game, and what are they like? The video does show Fishing. It also shows Hammer Banging (perhaps a Dwarven racial tradeskill). What else? And how do they work? Are there recipes? Is it a branching skill tree? Refer back a few pages for a list of questions.

To my knowledge, the video answered very few questions about anything other than combat and movement. It did tell us there is at least a minimal crafting system (perhaps so simple as selecting from a list what you want to have), that there is fishing (although we don't even know that there are fish), that there at least one bank (and presumably more), that there are player inventories (kudos to a good view of the inventory), that players can trade between themselves, and that construction is instaneous (I think someone said they only showed it as instantaneous to not be boring, but it can't be time-lapsed, since there was no video processing performed). If I'm in error or incomplete in what was shown regarding trade skills, economics, quests, or other non-combat game features, please tell me what I've missed or gotten incorrect.

They were not concentrating on the "core" of the game, they were showing what the Fans of Darkfall asked them to show us per the offical Forums over at Darkfallonline.com.   We wanted to see the large PvP battles, Ship battles, Siege battles and player cities.  The Developers gave their fans what they asked for and included some of the "other" things like UI/crafting/PvE and the Landscape.

I am sure if you go to the main forums you will see people asking to other parts of the game and I am sure that the Developers will release another video that will please the Darkfall Fans.

I don't understand if crafting is recipe based, and if so, how to get recipes. I don't understand how many trade skills there are. What resource gathering skills there are. What crafting skills there are. How many crafting or resource gathering skills one player can realistically maintain. Whether trade skills are branching. If crafting skills are leveled, and if so how. Is construction a skill? Is shipbuilding a skill? Is there a central trading system? Is it an auction system? Are there clan banks? Are there POH's? If there are POH's, what do they look like? Are there interiors? There's many other basic questions left unanswered.

I would not expect they answer everyone's every question. But their answer amounts to "it exists, in some form or other". Is that because it's not in the game except "in some form or other", or just because they slack-assed about making a comprehensive video?

Again, the FAQ is the same old song and dance. "We currently have about 300 skills and 200 spells designed on paper, but we are hoping to get at least 500 skills and 500 spells in there before retail." Many doubt they can do a beta, find a publisher, and get it out the door in little more than three months, but according to the FAQ, they will do this and add 200 skills and 300 spells from scratch in the mean-time (despite several statements to the effect of the game being feature complete).

Well if you did any kind of research on the main forums you would understand that nobody knows what skills or spells are in game and we will not know about them till the game is released.

The Developers are not going to give us a list of spells or skills or crafting recipes.  This is all stuff they want the players to learn for themself once they play the game.  Again this is all said in the Developer logs and the Q&A sessions.

The Video was made to show different aspects of Darkfall, they showed mostly what the fans on the main forum asked to see.  The other stuff you will see once beta is released or they make another video.

The current Developer team for Darkfall is a small group, they dont have the time or the money to have a big PR hype machine like other games.   We will not see alot of the "Features" until we get to play the game.

I love that they will not provide us a list of spells or skills.  I think its the better way to go, force the players to talk to each other to discover what skills and spells everyone found.   I can see the first 3 to 4 months being nothing but huge debates on the main forum about which spells and skills to use and watching some players asking how to get X spell or Skill.   I love how they are going to make the players discover stuff on their own.... NO MORE HAND HOLDING.

If you cant get over the fact that the Developers choose to show what the fans asked for and understand that the developers took time away from developing the game to make that video and cannot get pass the fact it didn't show YOU everything YOU required, then too bad for you.

I did enough research to know that everyone is BS'ing when they say "it's a PvP video" and "it's ALL in the game", and called everyone's bluff. You're the first to step up and admit no one knows.

They showed us all those "different aspects" of Darkfall, like range attacks vs. melee attacks vs. mage attacks, and mounted attacks vs. infantry attacks, and naval attacks vs. ground attacks. And various other ways to attack.

Except when they also chose to show us the top secret Hammer Bang trade skill, without actually telling us the other top secret trade skills.

Which is fine, because I'm the only one who wants to know about the top secret crafting, or how it works.

Or it could be they have a small Developer team, and they don't have the time or the money to put in difficult features like crafting.

Your logic is so tangled, they could choose not to spend money on making a super secret sewing skill out of it, then never tell anyone about it.

    Roguetech,

I'm not sure what you want to get out of this thread.  Everyone keeps telling you to look through the F.A.Q. etc on the main forums.  In the Newcomer's Discussions forum, there is a thread called "Compiled List of all the known Features on one Page", which is a great place to see what information is available.

    forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php

That thread lists the known Tradeskills (no mention of "Hammer Banging", but maybe that's a Prestige Tradeskill), including links to the original reference.  There is also a number of links to dev references about the crafting system, including the Item Creator, and it's ability to allow for invention.

Bottom line is that if you have a genuine interest in learning what information is out there, perhaps looking on the main forums will be more fruitful than sitting here whining about a video.

Thanks. I asked to find out what is known of the basic crafting system, and what other trade skills there are, as well as information on POH. Got wrapped up in the whole "the video shows people killing others" - "what else does it show??" - "it shows people killing others in several ways" loop...

I have my answer... No one knows, except a few tidbits thrown out, much outdated, the rest of dubious accuracy or reliability, all pointing to a recipe trade system solely for creating items that is so monotenous and mediocre that even the developers refuse to present it. And POH's may not even exist.

So I guess you just bypassed this quote on the Darkfall page here on MMORPG.

Will Darkfall Have player owned houses? Definately. Players will be able to set up houses of various sizes and design, ranging from small cottages to huge castles and citadels.

Can I design my own house? Yes. [more info to come]

And to my knowledge they have not changed either of these answers. So that tells me and the other Forumfallers that you really don't want to find out about the game, you just want others to tell you about it and to be spoon fed all the information.

Why do you have to know everything about the game before you try it out? The purpose of trying it is to determine if you do like it. Do you have to know everything that's in a book before you buy it?

The dev's have stated that there will be a closed beta which starts soon and then a very brief open beta/trial session prior to release. They are encouraging the "try before you buy" mentality.

I'm not sure how old the POH information you quote is. Several years, at the least. As you pointed out, it is highly disturbing that it has not changed. The same questions are being asked today, after the comprehensive video, that were being asked years ago. And it seems the answer is still the same.... "more info to come", despite the game supposedly being complete but for testing. (That's assuming the "more info to come" isn't "it's been cut". Again, the video did not show any POH's.)

Yes, I need to know a book is worth it before buying. Rather difficult for book publishers to manage (hence I don't actually buy books anymore), but rather simple for game publishers. Considering the closed beta will be continued as long as the game needs, and they're releasing the game in 2008, I really don't see how there's time for an open beta. Hopefully, there will be a trial system, and if so I will probably do so.

As for needing to know about it before it comes out, I find it curious you and others ask this question when pressed for information about game play features aside from combat (or asked why none of it was presented in the video), yet you are in these forums talking about a game before it's out. Assuming the game releases, and is any good, I'll keep an eye out for you in game. I assume you'll have the name Kettle Black...

For example as a carpenter you can make tables, chairs, stools, benches, bows, wooden weapons etc etc etc   you know as if you were actually a carpenter.
This is what i gather about the game so far anyway, im hopeing it will be this in-depth because its a sandbox afterall.

From what I have understood this game will be an FFA PvP game and then you certainly would need to be in a guild for, if nothing else, protection. If you dont belive me then you will learn it, the hard way, that a solo player will have a very tough time in an FFA PvP world where there are no artifical, carebear rules to protect you.

    Long live FFA PvP!
