Guild Wars Dies?

robby5403robby5403 Member Posts: 368

Maybe its just me but im starting to notice that this game dies. Not only graphics become aged (only Eotn is nice but they should've updated the whole game), if you play prophercie or factions there are almost no people to group up with and to do some missions or quest like in the 'good old days'.  The whole game is about grinding for gold last year(s) because everyone has full lvl 20's and want to get the best of the equipment. People that don't play over 2 hours a day had a nice game with guild wars the first 2 years but not anymore.....Maybe it was a mistake to make 3 diffrent campians which has split the people over all continents. If you need missions like 'The wilds' or so there aren't any people to make a party and have fun (if there are they only play HM). Currently I have 8 lvl 20's and stopped playing cause I don't see the fun of creating a new char since there aren't any players to play with and i want to get rit of a game thats all about grinding now....Even PvP becomes boring cause everyone has the same build and HA is only fun if you're high rank, which you never get since you never get invite if you haven't one :P

What do you people think about it?

Don't know what world you live in...

never had trouble finding PUGs be it in HM or in NM.

the best of the equipment can be aquired at lvl 15 for about 1 plat each (or less)

but you are right about the pvp and HA that youdo not get considered if you are not high enough rank. which you need to play HA to get...

try maxing out one of those 8 lvl 20s you have, and i dont mean lvl wise, i mean cap all elites, unlock all skills for all classes  with 1 character (even the ones you do not need) get titles, faction rank, (kurzick, luxon, sunspear, lightbringer, azuran, vanguard, norn, dwarven) get the extra 15 atribute points, max out your character

I first played Guild Wars over a year ago.  I stopped playing after a few weeks, for various reason having nothing to do with the game.  Now I have started playing again in just the last few weeks.  Although I haven't got far in the game, I find a healthy population everywhere I go.  I would say I see about a 75% veteren to 25% new player population.  IMHO after all these years and new people are still coming to the game, I think that's pretty healthy.

I don't have a problem finding groups, finding information from players, etc.   Most of the people I run into are great.  Of course the game has it share of elite "I'm too good to even look at you NOOB!" people, and "I'm a NOOB, can I have some gold!" people.

You didn't say if you were in a guild or not.  I can only assume, which is a bad word, that being in a guild would give you someone to play with, to either PVP, quest, or just have fun.   As far as not wanting to grind in games anymore, that's pretty much what any MMO is.  They aren't designed that way, the player base makes it that way.  Everyone wants to have max everything.  Most people just fly through the game, to get to the max level, max armor, weapon, ships, etc...  They miss out on the beauty of the game.

To be honest, the only MMO that I have played that was a true sandbox, and didn't have a grind was EVE Online.  But not everyone likes stars and spaceships.  Now if they would only make a fanasty MMO just like EVE, that would be great!

I don't think the game is dying. Although at this point I've played the PvE to death, I still have fun from time to time doing some PvP because it's so fast to get into.

The one thing I quoted though is something I agree with you about. HA at this point is ridiculous, then again it's been like this for a while. You can't get a decent group unless you've beaten it 8 times before. But if you're new, you will never find a group that has any organization. So it's impossible to get rank for HA unless you already have it. Which makes no sense if you ask me. The only possible way is to do it with a guild, but no guilds do it on a regular basis except for HA specific guilds... which only recruit you if you have rank... which, again, makes no sense.

Guild Wars isn't dying. It's simple math really.

Of course back then there would have been more people in the Prophecies and Factions areas, because those were the only two campaigns that existed. Now people are spread out between four areas, meaning that people are indeed going to be less common in those areas.

Also, one would find it logical that with time people will level their characters and many would move on to PvP. I am one of those. I don't PvE anymore. I only really log in to PvP as I've done just about everything else. PvP is, however, a different experience each time which keeps me coming back for more.

I have a monk with lots max titel, black dyed elite kurzick and black dyed eotn mask. But it costed me 150k to gain a rush trhough all proph missions+bonus till desert which I needed to take cause noone was there to do them with :S And be honest doing the missions with lvl 20's from you guild sucks....there isn't any difficult that way :P Also noone looks for quests anymore and since the perma form the whole gw economie is bad ectos droped over 2k etc......

factions was not the best choice to start in

nightfall or prophecies would have been a much better choice as they will "teach" you how to play, how to get skills, what skills to get, some cool builds, and they ease you into pvp.

as for factions, its centered into pvp. it was made to enhance pvp of prophecies...

now as far as your pvp experience, its not like wow or eq2/eq1 swg aoc war.... you need to focus on your group. you alone are worthless, you need to complete yourself with the others. my sugestion would be to find yourself a nice guild and play with them, pvp with them (in their teams) monkeys will either heal and keep alive or prevent dmg that would be delt. as rangers and mesmers will interupt the casterswho in their turn will try to dish out exessive damage. while the tanks try to get the rangers and mesmers out of their way (tank) necros will help the monkeys ( thats what i call monks) and the eles keep their energy up or debuff the oposing forces while the others can do their jobs. assasins... they do precise strikes like shoadow step to the monk drop him and retreat to safety. and the rit... well he will just support any other class. ( i feel like im missing a class.) oh yeah paragon and dervish... paragon... i still have trouble wondering what they do... and dervish is DPS AOE with tanking capabilities.

oh and each class is not bound by what i just said, ive seen elementalists tank, rangers do over 1200 dmg aoe  ritualists heal and warriors assasinate.

Factions is not a good place to start at all. Prophecies is the best I'd say if you want to know what exactly is going on in the GW world. It is the CORE game and story - rest are just spin-offs and extensions/expansions of sorts.

No wonder you are confused. Faction confuses me as well! :P

    To the OP:

Are you playing on American, Asian or Euro districts?  If you are playing Asian or Euro districts, try the American districts.  They are hugely more populated districts.  And, I am sorry that you choose not to do the missions with people from your guild because they are maxed out.  It, unfortunately, is a common occurrence in established MMOs (no flames please as to whether GW is a true MMO), that when you first start playing 3+ years into a game's release that you are going to find a disproportionate number of "end-game" players vis-a-vis newbies.

And, as to pvp play, do not be afraid to adverrtise that you are looking for a pvp training guild.  They are numerous and will teach you how to pvp effectively.  Unfortunately, you are not going to find a r9+ HA guild recruiting newbies.  But, the odds are greatly in your favor in finding a training pvp guild.

    Good luck and good hunting.

The reason why rank is required for HA is because unranked players have a tendency to charge in, trigger timer, die at Zaishen, overextend, fail to grasp what skills to use and in general play as if it was RA or PvE. If you're ranked you will at least have the basic knowledge required to perform with a decent level of skill. I consider that to be nothing more than logical actually. However getting into a guild for unranked people shouldn't be that hard; and neither should farming yourself up to r3 by rspiking or something be. Even I've managed to get r3, by PuGing.

I've current 8 lvl 20's and one of the is a full black dyed elite kurzick monk  (with black eye of the north mask that you gain from superb charr carvings) with serveral max titels and all eotn skills. Im also almost r1 in HA and played with some r11 for fun. But Im talking overall :P Titel hun tings gets realy boring after a few titels and it takes to long to grow in pvp level if you haven't good groups...

Well, the graphics is aging a bit and it will probably loose most if not all players when GW2 comes out (on the other hand EQ still have more players than EQ2 so I can be wrong) but updating the graphics of the old game would take resources from the development of GW2 and it's not worth that.

GW is a really nice game but when GW2 comes out it will be 5 years and that means it is time to retire, that's like 80 in human years. We had a good run and I can't wait for GW2. GW2 isn't coming out for a while yet however and the game will live until then.

Getting higher titles in PvE is just basic and boring farming. And if getting higher PvP ranks didn't require good groups I would've raged this game long ago. The thing that makes GW so great is that you can't go from RA/PvE directly to GvG and expect that your skills at smashing the button assigned to "Save Yourselves!" will be sufficient to roll the better teams. PvP requires learning and to perform good you need skill.

Its old, Less and less people pick it up, Its major player base is already established, its already declared a second version of the game to be in development and to come out next year, Id say its dying, hell its quite easy to see that! But it wont "Become impossible to play" for another year or 2. By that I mean not be able to find players in towns like Lions Arch.

Is it just me or are there less people playing the game since a few weeks. 2 months ago there were a lot of districts at America, German and English sides in the cities (Some more then another) but now there are always only a few districts and I never saw such less players in months/years......Could it be thats the release of WarO?

lol gw a wow wannabe? gimme a break.

Right now hte population in gw is decreasing but you'll have no problems doing hard mode and most of the stuff in the game if you play in us dists, join one of the big pve alliances, and learn how to use heroes efficiently.

Guild Wars isn't dying, nor is its population decreasing. A lot of people are starting to quit, but a lot of people are starting to play. ;) The only difference is that nobody cares about PvE anymore, after you've done it once, nobody really wants to do it again. So they go to PvP, which is just an elitism death match.

Even the most simple guilds have mic/vent req now, and if you askt hem why, they can't even give a reason.... Serious GvG/HA guilds, sure. AB guilds, why do they need mic/vent?

The game isn't dying, but it sure is death to me...

You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

Not impossible, many PvPers loves GW and probably tried out WAR... But some of em are bound to come back since GW is always open...

Nah, no chanse the game will die before GW2... Even though the average play time might go down a bit.
