everything anyone has said in this thread is pure speculation and jealousy. pissed they cant afford the setup and pissed that this guy doesnt have to deal with their ignorance. noone knows what this guy does for a living but with that amount of hardware hes making some serious cash i would imagine. hell for all anyone knows this guy inherited a shit ton of money and doesnt have to do shit but sit around play games and do whatever the hell else he wants with his life. anyone know how long it took for him to get all his characters to max level and figure how to play them all at the same time? no.

There was an article on him in Yahoo! not long ago and he said he is going to preorder WoTLK and plop down his 1500 bucks for all his accounts......Also how does he get enough bandwidth with 11 PCs?? Does he also have a T1 line or 11 seperate DSL accounts too??? Heck I know I lag somewhat just trying to 2 box......I think its fine to enjoy games but this is obviously a bad message to send......A year or two down the line he'll quit like most of us do and wonder why the heck did I spend thousands on this game??

people using phones are actually talking to people they know and at some time or another have probably had physical contact with. as far as mmos go, that likelihood is decreased.  calling someone ignorant when comparing two totally different pieces of technology for communication well.. is just ignorant.

It would problably be damn near impossible to have all that set up/going on and still be even a little social. Even in the article it says he will be waiting at the store when the expansion pack comes so he can pay his $1500 and get on with leveling his characters to level 80.

Think about it. Right Now he has about 32 characters at LVL 60. To get to level 80 as fast as he said he's gonna do would take almost ALL of your time with that insane amount of characters. He doesn't have 1 or 4 characters he has over 40 to be exact. You have to take that into consideration.

Pissed? Ha! I play my mmos basically once a week and I have a good life. This guy dosent even social in the game...what you're saying is exact speculation too. Hell I only visit here once a week, I wonder how long you spend on mmos/forums just wasting a good life.

But ya, to ignore the bastard I'm gonna say I'd try and help that dude out. Sure he makes cash but maybe he's afraid of the outside world? Never know.

Though its a ncie feat of m,ulti-tasking, it's rather sad someone playing a game meant for interaction with other people to be Mr.Soloist with 36 chars. I see quite a few peeps doing this these days in MMO's and its rather sad to see it.

    1. Well done on your multi tasking

    2. Sad you have to solo raid etc mate and not interact with others to have a fun time with players from all over the world.

    3. Personally, You need to get out abit more. The big yellow thing in the sky is called the Sun. :p

But hey all in all, if thats your thing, good luck to you. Personally when I play MMO's I enjoy playing with others and not myself in 35 other characters. Hope ya don't talk to each of your chars as in another person, then mate you need therapy LOL. Good luck on your single player WoW. Very expensive single player game you got going there.

In all honest anyone who seriously thinks this setup is impressive just because he has 12 inexpensive "laptops" setup needs to maybe learn more about things. And just because its a computer doesn't mean everything involved with it is *Rocket Science*. Even Joe the plumber can set up a computer.

I think everyone needs to be socially active. And larn dont be a dick, it's okay to admit that you were wrong and this guy needs help, maybe you do too.

And as above me that makes sense but eh, it's just weird. It's like going to a bar and just sitting down and hanging out by yourself, it's pitiful!

well this guy is one in what, 10 million subscribers or something like that. so i think the multiplayer aspect has been taken care of.  now if it were this guy and say 2 other people that were playing the game and they were the only player base then maybe you would have a problem. just because it has a label doesnt necessarily mean you have to follow that label. apparently there are no single player games as good as WoW or this player would probably play that instead. never said i supported or did not support him. i just understand some of the frustrations of having to rely on others in a guy to get anywhere or get anything done. if i could have a dollar for everytime one jackass screwed it up the raid i was, i think i might be able to retire. thats my point.

The people who like to play with others should play MMORPGs.

The people who don't should play single player games.

Why would a person who doesn't like to play with others want to play a game that, by design, demands that they play with others in order to play the game?

No not just buying your own road. Making 36 clones of yourself and buying 36 cars too just so everyone drives "perfect" like you.

Not like this guy is a true RPG player anyway. He's not "multitasking" even if he used only those little cheap controllers he has it would be impossible. He admits to using automated programs to run almost all of those computers. Not very impressive.

Single player games only go so far then you reach the end. Multiplayer ones go on as long as you want it. Its a free open world, just because it says "multiplayer" doesn't mean you have to play with other people (even though its alot of fun sometimes). Its not law its just that they had to CATEGORIZE it as something and the closest suitable genre was MMORPG. Its a genre title nothing more.

ill bet money this is a joke (the origional picture and related thread)

could you imagine how slow and dull having to mess aound moving 36 characters around, on top of makin ghtme all attack, think about it, i dont care how good you are at multi tasking, its nearly impossible to do, and if you could it would either take more than one person or take a serious amount of time and effort, way more than just finind a raid group.

i mean, wow isnt point and click, so dude is holding down W while moving his mouse, or finger on those laptop pads, 36 times, every time he wants to move some....

my guess is that the guy is in some sort of school/business storage area where they keep all their laptops, or hes a tech support for a business.  On a slow day he was bored as hell, so he set up a bunch of laptops and sent out the pic to his wow buddy probably stating that hes raiding by himself.  As many thing do on the internet, it spread into now a true story, and the souce of an argument over peoples choices of how to play mmo's....

seriously setp back, look at the picture, and think logically about it.  this is nothing more than a                 "no way.. lol" picture, there is not some dude with 8 arms runnin around raiding on a non-point and click game by himself on a bunch of laptops.

a ver nice "conversation piece" picture though.

That doesn't make a lot of sense to me to use this argument. What is he contributing to society?

Not by playing WoW, but what about those people selling fast food, drugs, and making bombs... Not contributing isn't the worst thing in the world.  Not to mention he never said what he does to make his money so he might.

Everyone should work their buts off so this guy can sit in his chair and play on 36 computers and waste his money?

People working their asses off have nothing to do with this guy playing WoW, in fact it sounds like your jelous or think that anything you spend money on for fun is a waste.  36 accouts and 11 computers is a lot but IT IS HIS MONEY.  Unless he stole it or something he isn't harming anyone.

This guy needs some help, sorry.

Lots of people need help, but this guy seems like he is ok spending that time and money on the game.  He explains why and how he does it in his interview on the link that was posted.  Sure, the cash could be put to better purposes but its his

There are plenty of solo games out that have an open end game.  It says "multiplayer" because the games design (intent of the designer) is built to encourage you to play with other people.  All multiplayer games are designed to have you interact with other players.  A massively multiplayer game is designed to encourage you to play with MANY other players.

If we don't make a stand about this now you will be paying 15 dollars a month to play games like Team Fortress or Diablo or Age of Empires.  If you allow these companies to give you a single player experience in a MMORPG it will not be too long before they charge you to play The Witcher online which is the exact same as the regular Witcher except you are paying 15 dollars a month now.  Is that what you want?

Part of having an open end world is to have freedom of choice. Would you rather play a game that forces you to play with groups of 4 or more people when you don't want to or need to? I'd rather have a "easy quests can be done solo and harder quests for groups type of thing" like Monster Hunter, like most RPGs have been. Forcing people to play with others would mean two things: either the game is teamwork based or the difficulty is extreme and most games of your ideas go for the latter to make multiplayer work.

I don't know where you get this "we have to make a stand stuff" you just want to fight for no reason. It isn't like single player/multiplayer combos like Diablo or Champions of Norrath are taking over, those are far and few. Age of Empires is single player with a multiplayer aspect for players to see who has the best strategy, I wouldn't necessarily put it in a category like RPG or MMORPG for that matter.

If it comes down to them trying to charge us for playing AOE and Team Fortress then let us speak with our wallets. Either way I'd say that its never going to happen and even if so, it'll problably be atleast a decade before they try to force that up us.

In terms of a game being entirely multiplayer based wouldn't seem right. I mean what then? Would I have to have 2-3 people with me just to do simple skills like fishing too? You know, one to put the fish in a storage container after I catch them and another to just chat it up with us for no reason because you have to have 3 people in a group to go fishing, cause its a "social" game. Let people play alone. They have that simple right, there's no need to force them to be social and who's to say that if you somehow do force them that they won't be that "I'm all work and no play type" and just stay in your party without saying a word like a robot.

I have a few things to say:

    1. This guy has absolutely NO LIFE!

    2. This guy 100%ly use auto bots cause in a hard raid you can't controll all those chars, even 10 is hard.

    3. That guy lives for this game or is rich since he pays at least 360 euro a month and he needs to buy 36 expnasions next month.

  • JetrpgJetrpg Member UncommonPosts: 2,347

Wow is a game that takes a ton of skill , so much that you can bot an entire raid.

Ok well try toi get away with that in some other games... good luck.

I would rather have anti-social people recognize the fact that MMORPGs are social games that require them to interact with others.  I would like them to not play MMORPGs at all because they ruin the game for real MMORPG players and they don't really get anything out of playing them that they couldn't also get from playing a single player game.

I don't know where you get this "we have to make a stand stuff" you just want to fight for no reason. If players don't recognize the reason why they play a MMORPG, and they mostly don't (this thread is a great example), then I can very easily see companies turning a game that is designed towards solo play into an online subscription game - hell, WoW almost fits the bill right now.

If it comes down to them trying to charge us for playing AOE and Team Fortress then let us speak with our wallets. Either way I'd say that its never going to happen and even if so, it'll problably be atleast a decade before they try to force that up us.

It's sooner than you think - infact it has already started with hell gate london which was released last year at this time.  Hell gate london is basically Diablo 2s design with a subscription fee attached to it.

In terms of a game being entirely multiplayer based wouldn't seem right. I mean what then? Would I have to have 2-3 people with me just to do simple skills like fishing too? I agree that you can be a member of a community by providing a service to that community which doesn't involve grouping but last time I looked there are no MMORPGs like that anymore.  You could even build a game that includes anti-social players but that game has yet to be made.

Lets use your fishing example in a single player game and in anti-social game design - you fish, then you catch a fish, then you cook the fish, and then you eat the fish.  In a MMORPGs you fish, then you catch a fish, then another player buys your fish and cooks it and sells it to the community to be eaten by other players.  Sure you fished alone but you need another player to buy your fish and they need other players (like you) to buy their cooked fish - see the social design - you are not self sufficent.  You need other players - do you see the difference?
