1. War- was so looking forward to this game and it's just so-so:( Love the scenarios and public quest but hate the weak game engine, graphics, character models and lack of community.
2. WoW- too easy and shallow. Great game engine though.
3. VanGuard- great idea to make an old fashioned style MMO where you have to work hard to level. But the game was so unplayable and buggy that it ruined it.
Biggest surprise : LoTRO. I went into it expecting to dislike it because I am not a Tolkien fan at ALL! The game is excellent and I see why it won so many awards last year.
1) SWG-NGE: half finished FPS system 2) Vanguard: great on paper... only (supposedly good now) 3) I would put AoC but I wasn't expecting anything so... I have none.
1) VG - Because I believed the hype. AOC might have been in this slot, but I always watched that one with a jaded eye.
2) DDO - I love D&D games, played the gold box games over and over and really had high hopes for an MMORPG based on the franchise.
3) WAR - Probably my fault, what I really wanted is DAOC 2, and WAR might be a good game (I'm still giving it a go) but it most definitely doesn't feel at all like Dark Age. Yeah, I know the IP's different, but its more than that, just can't quite explain it in a short paragraph.

And this is why it depresses me that they are behind "The Agency," which I have had my eye on with GREAT hope. I continue to watch this game, but I hesitate to allow myself much excitement, due to the fact that SoE just can't seem to pull it off when it comes to their games.
1. WAR - to me RvR should be massive battles, not just laggy scenarios with dull objectives that you play with 20-30 others. The rest of the game is an even bigger disappointment
AoC - just plain boring. The amount of bugs didnt help neither
VG - couldnt keep me interested for more then a few hours... Uninstalled it the same day i bought it.
I gotta say, some of these lists seem to be "What have you done for me lately". Which really is just adding up quite a few quality games that weren't for you.
1. Dark and Light - If you were even slightly interested in this game panning out, it should be in your top 3. The amount of hype projected from this game was insane, and what became of it? Legal battles and a game forgotten. It's one thing to have a horrible game, it's quite another to have a horrible game that never even really came to be.
2. Asheron's Call 2 - During high school, before I even tried MMORPG's, I had a friend who used to tell me about his times in Asheron's Call 1...Needless to say I was hooked before I had even tried an MMO. By the time this came out, by the time I had funds/interest etc it was gone before I could even really try it. It's a shame, from some I had heard it was actually a pretty good game that just needed a lot of TLC. Im sure it was far from completion, but it certainly hurt.
3. Vanguard - This was the game for many. The vibrant message boards, the small snippets of a game that took us all back to EQ...People were in a state I could only explain as euphoria. It really had all the makings of being incredibly successful. However, due to all the issues with production, it ultimately failed to even remotely hit the expectations it laid in front of itself. I will probably always think of this as the "What if" game. If it had been successfully implemented, a better management system, who knows...This could be the undeniable #2 game in the market. Of course that's not how it happened, we all know the horror beta stories, some of us who actually experienced them 1st hand. It was one of the only games that the beta steered me so far away that I didn't want to purchase something that I had been anticipating for a long time.
Now, this is purely disappointment at release. I'm semi considering subbing up an account with Vanguard as i've tried the trial lately and it certainly has changed from beta. Many do enjoy this game, but it was certainly a crapshoot at the start.
HM - Gods and Heroes - I really don't have to get into detail here.
2. DDO- Never felt like D&D and then they put it in that stupid Eberron world and not Forgotten realms.
3. EQ2 - This should have been the best game of all time and ended up being a stinking pile of poo. Sad thing is compared to the stinking piles of poo released afterwards it wasn't that bad.
Honorable mentions:
Matrix online - coulda been cool
WAR - sounded good until I read about it. Once I relaized all they talked about was RVR I had a feeling the pve would blow chunks, I was right.
Light and Dark
Games I knew would suck so they weren't diapointments:
AOC - it was made by Funcom, enough said.
VG - they took all the worst parts of EQ and hyped them. Death penalty, grind, mob camping etc. Unfortunatley I still got suckered into buying this game.
Sword of the new world Granado Espada - Such beautiful style! Music and even graphics, Love the 1700 era victorian style. To bad that the game's ENTIRE game play aspect is grind X number of Y mobs. there is NOTHING outside of it, and grinding to the max or what will be the max will take well over a year of non stop playing, 000.1% per kill is the current rate. Next update to levels will be 0000.1% then 00000.1% So this game is a total boring grind fest that makes lineage 2's grind seem childish.
Hellgate london- Could have been so much more..Flagship disbanded, Game ended in crysis. To bad this was one that had potential to be a gerat game in the same style of phantasy star or Monster hunter.
Guild wars (Eye of the north) It was a mistake to tell the community that it would link both guild wars games. The moral of the GW community on many forums and even online is very low. People feel the end is coming, which is alright, because its been out quite some time its time to move on. I just think that Anet helping people to leave GW1 to move to GW2 Is really not the right thing to do. I wish Eye of the north would have waited a year to come out at the same time as GW2.
1.war .god was this game over hyped by the fanboi's with thier warhamamer is coming banner's in their sig, their touting it as the wow killer, their claims that this was going to be the ultimate mmo....what pisses me of is that i fell for it.what a boring peice of unfinished contrived crap! a waste of $50,i could have spent that on beer.
2.lotr. to much lesser extent.I think it's a much better game than war,by a long shot, but compared to what you thought it was going to be pre release and what it turned out to be was a slight disappointnment.
1. AOC - Never has such game had so much hype, and delivered so little.
2. WAR - I blame myself for not expecting this. Surprised? No, just too hopeful something new was coming.
3. EQ2 - I don't want to add EQ2, because even though it makes my list, I still play it because it's better than everything else out now. But damn did it take three years to get there. I almost wish eq2 had been released a year ago, or maybe this year with ALL the content and changes included up to this point. It would have been the greatest game of all time. So I guess I'll throw SWG in there. That sucked pretty hard balls.

War would be on there, but I kind of expected it to be crap, so I wasn't too disappointed.

i just can name one: AoC
I know that a big part of it have to do with my stupid, unfunded expectations about it.

1) Dark and Light - Everyone should of had this one on their list.
2) SWG NGE - i consider it a separate game from the one I bought.
3) Warhammer online - Considering the talent they have, they could of done much better - I think this game is a step backwards for Mythic.
