    Age of Conan

    Tabula Rasa

LOTRO, at least near launch it was, haven't played since. If the combat has changed then I will remove this once I try again.

First this is about most disappointing games not worst.
Second, another mainstreamm MMO not mentioned is FFXI, one of my all time favs.

FF was mentioned more than once... just not on my top ten list.

I would argue that there would be a very strong correlation between the most disappointing games and the worst games, unless the discussion was purely about technical merit.

You're seriously suggesting that WoW was a bigger disappointment than D&L?

    I've seen everything now!

I agree with you 100%. All these people on a MMO forum and I would say every MMO has been brought up many of times. If you are so dissapointed in MMO's then move to single player games.

I agree that theres some MMO's out there that were a dissapointment, but some people on here have posted MMO's that were very good and succeded in what they wanted to do.

Everyone seems to want this perfect MMO. Its not going to happen.

I defended WAR earlier however now since recent changes (namely the scenario que forced timer) i've had to retract my defense of the game and state right now that i simply do not get as much enjoyment out of it as i once did.

Right now i'm playing Fallout 3, and while it's not a  MMORPG it does so many things that i wish an MMORPG would do.

    Also, the setting, its fantastic.

I'm just oh so tired of the very tired fantasy setting: Spells, wizards, fighters arrrgh.

So yes, i'm having heaps more fun in Fallout 3 than I started having in WAR recently.

    My NEW Top 3 are

    DDO.

    LOTR:O

    and WAR

However, DDO is far and away ahead of the other two.

And LOTRO is not really THAT bad, in fact it's a great PVE game, but it made my top 3 due to the horrid PVP.  This list reflects my disappointment and may well be vastly different to your own.

    ----
    MMORPG's I've Played: World of Warcraft: 10/10 - Rappelz: 7/10 - Ragnarok Online: 8/10 - DnD Online: 2/10 - Runescape: 6/10 - LotR Online: 5/10 - Anarchy Online: 7/10 - CoV: 8/10 - Rohan Online: 8/10 - Guild Wars: 7/10 - Flyff: 8/10 - Warhammer Online: 8/10

    My HARDCORE Story

  • SlampigSlampig Member UncommonPosts: 2,342

Dungeons & Dragons Online would be my number one.

Tabula Rasa would have to be number two...

Then probably in last place would be Motor City Online...but mainly because I sucked at races and always lost my pinks...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Vanguard (@ launch , its good now)

    EQ2 at launch

    UO2 (for never happening)

Top disappointing ... implies expectations. I don't go into a game expecting more than what my past game could offer (I do expect less of the problems though). I guess it's only natural that the newest releases are more disappointing than the past ones.

If I had to nominate 3 games, I'd do it on the grounds of unfulfilled potential. In chronological order that would be:

    1. SWG - for the horrible grind

    2. AOC - for lack of end game content

    3. WAR - for lack of proper European support.

    3. Vanguard - I don't have a strong #3 but this was one I had been looking forward to and was let down by.

    2. ArchLord - I was a total newb to the genre back in early-mid 06 so I got caught up in the interest for this and went so far as to become a moderator over on the Codemasters board for the game. And then beta came. And then I was underwhelmed. And uninterested. And well, rather disappointed. But, in the end I only have myself to blame for this one.

    1. Seed - Who knows how successful the game could have been if it released with everything the developers wanted, but the premise alone was just so intriguing. Players trapped in a large colony/ship stranded on a planet not yet habitable. There were no NPC enemies to fight. Everything relied on training skills related to improving living situations and social interaction, and the choices we would make as a whole would eventually influence the direction the developers would take in changing the world. Would we look to make the planet habitable in some fashion, or would we instead look for a means of communication back to Earth so we could someday leave? Sadly, it was released as a mess of an unfinished game due to heavy financial restraints and Runestone had hoped that they would find a publisher after launch to keep them afloat. That publisher never came however, and they canceled it within the first six months. I remember not even being able to really play it during the time I got the chance to in beta because it was so broken and laggy. I still hope that someday a developer will come up with something like this, perhaps not removing combat as a whole, but giving the community the reigns to change the future on a planet in both small and large ways.

    1. A oC- reasons above x100!

    2. Tablua Rasa - After being a fan on Anarchy Online, i was hoping that TR was going to fill in my Sci Fi MMO void, how much of a let down was this.. Big!

    3. Archlord- I was really looking forward to Archlord, something went horribly wrong..

    1. Lotro - best IP used in the worst possible way. I remember when they anounced it was way more exciting than playing it ever was.

    2. AoC - did enjoy this game but it should have been so much better, I had too high hopes for this for too long.

    3. WAR - didn't have that high hopes but it still failed to meet them.
