How the bloody hell does buying a fluff ugly ass pet that does nothing for you equate to buying $500 of uber gear that isn't even offered? What are you people smoking?
/facepalm
Why oh why is this extremely simple thing so very, very hard for you to understand?...the only answer i can come up with it that you read only what you want and ignore the rest.
Did you even look at the OP first post? did you even read it? this isn't about what their selling, it's about John Smedly saying one thing then doing the exact opposite of what he said they weren't going to do.

We aren't going to be allowing RMT in any way, shape or form on the non-exchange enabled EQ II servers. Period. End of statement.
In any event, I wanted to stop in and at least set the record straight - you aren't going to be seeing RMT allowed on the non-exchange enabled servers.

How is this so hard to see? why is this so hard for you to grasp?
Let me put it to you like this: You have a friend, let's call him...John...now John tells you "I will never wear polka-dot pants on a Sunday afternoon while riding a donkey".....then on one Sunday afternoon while walking in the park what do you see?
Your friend John....wearing polka-dot pants while riding a donkey.
Fashion sense and mode of transport not withstanding, how can you possibly trust -anything- your friend John says to you in the future?
You can't or rather you shouldn't...logic dictates that when somebody lies to you the chances of them lying to you again are pretty high, especially if this lie is making them money, but you and others believe what he and SoE tell you....again, and again and again.
What they sell now is no indication of what they are going to sell in the future, and John Smedly IMHO can no longer be trusted.
On a personal note: you and i seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot, for that i apologize...i try not to get into arguments but i do enjoy a good debate, i may have went past that on my last posts...so no hard feelings i hope.

and we'll take this one step further your buddy john in his polka-dot pants riding his donkey gets hit on by one woman. just one, and he says hey......i'm gonna start doing this every other day..... and i'm gonna get my donkey some polka dot barding......
once this business model is 'deemed successful' it will be expanded... more RMT, more MicroTransactions...
not so fluff items.
this in, and of itself, is fine..... alot of the problem is john, regarding his polka dots and his donkey....saying i won't do it, ever, first though.....
launching with microtransactions, fine.
implementing microtransactions, fine.
saying you won't, and then doing it.... not so fine.

*sighs* yeah so what. My boss said he wouldn't charge for local phone calls then he did it. What the hell does that matter? Stop whining about NOTHING.

I can't, a lie is a lie no matter how you try to spin it.
Look, most of my posts have been pretty fair, I'm not slamming EQ2...hell i love the game....i'm not slamming SoE, for that matter I'm not slamming John Smedley...but i won't ignore an obvious and blatant lie.
You keep telling people to 'stop complaining' to 'get over it' and so on....i must yet again bring up that this discussion on this thread has been civil, frankly the only person who seems to have a problem 'complaining' and 'whining' is you.
Nobody is forcing you to say here or even acknowledge this thead or us...and yet you keep coming back, why?..it's obvious you disagree with us, you've made your point...and yet you're here.
I must also point out that until you came back this thread was starting to settle down, nobody forced you to come back here...and yet...here you are.
Be careful of that dude, JT, as my June moderator "warning" came because that dude reported it. See his M.O. is to say the most outlandish things, then to pull your chain enough to report you later. He's been doing this for months, so it's not even the RMT thing that is ticking him off.
*sighs* yeah so what. My boss said he wouldn't charge for local phone calls then he did it. What the hell does that matter? Stop whining about NOTHING.
when your boss 'did it' did he give any warning, or did people just start seeing 'local phone calls' on their bills, and told 'sorry, sucks to be you'?
i don't think this is nothing, you do. i'm going to keep saying i don't like it, and you can keep saying you don't like seeing it.....

I can't feel sorry for anyone that played SWG through the CU/NGE and then went to EQ,EQ2, and expected the game to keep the same basic play style.
SOE has for several years shown thier utter contempt for the paying customer. They released an expansion for SWG Two days before the NGE and lost some where between 100-175 thousand paying accounts and never looked back.
If you played SWG back then and changed to another SOE title. I don't see how you could think they care what you or anyone else cares or feels..
One of the only truthful things Smed has said is that "the NGE is here to stay"
So you are REQUIRED to use their Stationcash option? Word to the wise, they are not making you do anything and if you don't like it quit being a little nancy and cancel your sub leave the rest of the world to their own. Not to mention this has been talked to death for the last few days use the search function and vent in on of the already exhisting threads.
If you want access to the things that players who use it get, yes you WILL be required to, or be at a disadvantage. They are already offering exclusive items there and it will only ramp up from here. Just like what they are doing with the gambling card games.
You can bet eventually the best items will be buyable only from the cash shop! I will see you all in WoW where we would stone Smedley in seconds. As for the one who accepts this, wtf is wrong with you? Smed bold faced lied and it's okay? You are really sick to continue paying for a game with a bold faced liar in charge.
If you play WOW you might have already bumped into Smed and not known it. He's known to be an avid WOW player.

Well, one argument I can make for those who went to EQ2 is that with it being SOE's breadwinner, and the IP that they owned, they had a lot of motivation to NOT screw it up. Not like SWG, which is a 3rd party IP, and SOE must have felt it less risky to experiment with ultra long shot risks (like the NGE) with it..
Screw EQ/EQ2 and the lights basically go out at SOE, those games account for several times more revenue than the rest of the Station Schlock combined.
It MUST be near "lights out" for Smed and SOE for them to be this desperate for cash, because even an imbecile would know by now after the NGE debacle that you DONT ROCK THE BOAT in a game that is years old and settled into stability by making radical changes.
Then again, I guess they can't learn that lesson. The same management is in place. I guess this proves why you HAVE to purge management when it makes a huge mistake because they won't learn from it, they will just repeat it.

rofl, no we didn't get any warning honey. No, I don't like the stupid moaning. Its childish. If you don't like it then here's a surprise... GO TELL SOE. This isn't their web site, kid. Did that escape your notice? Does it not seem stupid to you to protest something on some OTHER web site than the actual companies where nothing can be done and they probably won't even see it?
If you have a problem with a specific company, do you go to them to tell them the problem? Or do you go to their competitors and bitch? Does that not seem stupid and idiotic to you?
And why would you continue to frequent a company that angers you at every turn? Obviously they haven't really angered you, or they think they haven't and they don't really care because you are still giving them your money.
If you don't play the game anymore then why aren't you doing the mature thing and moving on like most NORMAL people?
Don't you understand the idiocy of what you're doing? Seriously, it doesn't take a whole lot of brain power so try.

mmorpg.com is a competitor? cool... what game are they producing, i'll have to check it out.
or do you mean this is a Blizzard or NCSoft or Turbine site? dang. they hide it well.... well maybe not in the case of blizzard, that game's ratings are too high in my book.
And why would you continue to frequent a company that angers you at every turn? Obviously they haven't really angered you, or they think they haven't and they don't really care because you are still giving them your money.
not every turn. just this one.

did ya miss the point where i said i was actively leveling in EQII while discussing this one single aspect of the game that i don't like, and the implementation of it... which is what i have the real problem with..... and the main reason i'm still playing is that my sub renewed two days before this change went live, so i've paid them for a month...... actively pushing my wife to play something else over this next month, because as i've said we play together.....
Don't you understand the idiocy of what you're doing? Seriously, it doesn't take a whole lot of brain power so try.
you're right... idiocy is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. at the moment we're both guilty of that. you're saying me expressing my opinion here is pointless, and i have yet to see anything to change my mind on how i feel about the implementation of Microtransactions in EQII.
Microtransactions is not something i disagree with. i have said a number of times it appears to be the wave of the future. i have a problem with this single implementation of it. no warning, after specifically saying it wouldn't happen.
that is my problem. i can ignore Microtransactions in the game, i have been. still have 150 station cash in my wallet. but dismissing it as just fluff items and 'non-game impacting' is not where my problem is. i'm just as upset at the notion of fluff pets as i would be at +100 sword of pure pwnage being available for cash because they said it wasn't going to happen IN ANY FORM.
oh. and kid made me laugh.....

After what they did to SWG I never thought they would pull anything like this for their main game. I am really sorry your commuity has to go through this sort of dung.

Honestly i dont think anyone in the EQ2 community thought they'd pull a stunt like this one..just goes to show they even outdo themselves
So you are REQUIRED to use their Stationcash option? Word to the wise, they are not making you do anything and if you don't like it quit being a little nancy and cancel your sub leave the rest of the world to their own. locklain, no its just a bunch of doomsayers. People who hate the game and will moan constantly about it. Many of the people in this thread don't even play the game at all.

Every single piece of evidence suggests that station cash is just the beginning of this type of thing in current EQ games. You cannot read a single article from John Smedley where he doesn't talk about the implementation and wonders of RMT in MMOs. How his goal is for SOE to draw almost all of their revenue from RMT over the next five years.
You can read the tentonhammer interview with EQ2's lead producer and see where he admits they are deciding how far they can take the items without pissing off the entire playerbase. Those are his words. They are discussing adding armor and weapons, but I have no doubt when they do that people like you will rush to the forums, tell everyone to STFU because there are still better items in the game to get.
Anyone can show you the pattern of SOEs actions, their level of concern for the players constantly taking second place to their deadlines and profit margins. The long history of thier push for RMT. Everything speaking in direct contrast to your name calling.
All you seem to have as a rebuttle are insults and calls to silence anyone bringing up valid points. Everyone else is talking about reality and likely futures.
Here is a quote for you and I would love anyone to explain it away. It tells the whole truth of the matter in no uncertain terms.
“Right now our revenue is almost all subscriptions,” John Smedley, the unit’s president, said in an interview. “In two years, we would like to see no more than 50 percent of our revenue coming from subscriptions, and five years from now we think less than 10 percent of our revenue will come from subscription sources.”
This was stated in 2007 and you can read all the RMT stuff in the rest of the article. This plan has been around for a while. Ask yourself, how do you think they are going to convert 50% of their revenue from subscriptions to RMT?
Do you really think SOE is going to be content with "crap items that no one cares about" as you keep repeating over and over and over? They have a goal to reach and if they need to add bigger items, they sure as hell will do it. They are already talking about it right now despite your claims that everyone is doomsaying. Open your eyes.
One last thing you have not realized yet. People who do not use RMT are now second class citizens. It is now in SOEs best financial interest to design their games around people who use RMT and incentive gameplay to encourage it. Who do you think SOE cares more about, the person who pays $15 a month and nothing more or the person who pays $15 a month and a variable amount of money on RMT. **edit**The people who only pay subscription fees are subsidizing the developement of RMT for other players if you really look at it from an outside perspective. Subscription dollars are paying the developer fees who used to make free content updates, but now those content updates are resold as micro transactions.
I can tell you who the premium member is and who the supplemental member is.

since Daffid011 made some good points, there they are..... but its reminiscent of my idiocy point..... we have our opinion, you have yours, neither is changing the others mind so.......
"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement."
I just appealed to their Billing departement: Greetings, I have endured the NGE debacle with Star Wars Galaxies and have been pretty much angry for a long time. With EverQuest 2 I have given SOE a second chance. Hoping they would have learned from their mistakes not to screw over your paying customers like what was done with the NGE update on SWG. I have been a loyal customer of EverQuest 2 over the years, bought all expansions, etc. And now you guys push the Station Cash through our troats without warning nor prior notification?!! If I would have known this would be coming I would NEVER have bought The Shadow Odyssey expansion! This is outragious and pretty much feels like a NGE dejavu! So I demand a full refund of my TSO expansion purchase ASAP! And to back up my claim I enclosed a statement by John Smedly (CEO of SOE) some time ago about RMT features and EverQuest 2! ----------------

Best Regards, xxxxx xxxxxxx ______________________________________________________________
The reason I have done this... well is pretty much explained in my letter. But I wanted to add the following to open all your eyes in what is happening here. As it took a moment for me too, to let all this sink in:
What SOE has done here is a PURE SCAM! Plain and simple. 1. They didn't warn their paying customers way in front that this was coming! 2. They waited a couple weeks after the TSO expansion launch. Make sure they sell as much as possible. 3. They quickly changed the Terms and EULA with the patching in of Station Cash. These SCAM'ing bastards knew pretty well and on forhand that this sytem, would they have announced it at forehand, would have made a lot of people cancel their accounts and would have hurt their TSO expansion sales drastically!
Cheers
If you lie with dogs expect to get fleas.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

On a personal note: you and i seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot, for that i apologize...i try not to get into arguments but i do enjoy a good debate, i may have went past that on my last posts...so no hard feelings i hope.

once this business model is 'deemed successful' it will be expanded... more RMT, more MicroTransactions...
not so fluff items.
this in, and of itself, is fine..... alot of the problem is john, regarding his polka dots and his donkey....saying i won't do it, ever, first though.....
launching with microtransactions, fine.
implementing microtransactions, fine.
saying you won't, and then doing it.... not so fine.
"We aren't going to ... Period. End of statement."
ya. ok. whatever.
but what do i know, i'm only a vanbois i'm told.
*sighs* yeah so what. My boss said he wouldn't charge for local phone calls then he did it. What the hell does that matter? Stop whining about NOTHING.
When whiners stop whining about whining.

He's just trying to get his post count to 1337.
when your boss 'did it' did he give any warning, or did people just start seeing 'local phone calls' on their bills, and told 'sorry, sucks to be you'?
i don't think this is nothing, you do. i'm going to keep saying i don't like it, and you can keep saying you don't like seeing it.....

If you want access to the things that players who use it get, yes you WILL be required to, or be at a disadvantage. They are already offering exclusive items there and it will only ramp up from here. Just like what they are doing with the gambling card games.

This thread has become hilarious.
Unintentionally, of course.

mmorpg.com is a competitor? cool... what game are they producing, i'll have to check it out.
or do you mean this is a Blizzard or NCSoft or Turbine site? dang. they hide it well.... well maybe not in the case of blizzard, that game's ratings are too high in my book.
And why would you continue to frequent a company that angers you at every turn? Obviously they haven't really angered you, or they think they haven't and they don't really care because you are still giving them your money.

did ya miss the point where i said i was actively leveling in EQII while discussing this one single aspect of the game that i don't like, and the implementation of it... which is what i have the real problem with..... and the main reason i'm still playing is that my sub renewed two days before this change went live, so i've paid them for a month...... actively pushing my wife to play something else over this next month, because as i've said we play together.....

Sadly true
After what they did to SWG I never thought they would pull anything like this for their main game. I am really sorry your commuity has to go through this sort of dung.
Honestly i dont think anyone in the EQ2 community thought they'd pull a stunt like this one..just goes to show they even outdo themselves

locklain, no its just a bunch of doomsayers.

It tells the whole truth of the matter in no uncertain terms.
www.nytimes.com/2007/06/11/business/worldbusiness/11sony.html
****Standing applause to Daffid011****
That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell for us "doomsayers". Good Work.
