Europe is the OPEN Beta! Will you pay to play?

BiggusRiggusBiggusRiggus Member UncommonPosts: 126

I have been mildly following the release of this game... I have been reading the posts about the release... you would think this release was the North American Release... posters keep asking on here, "Where's the open Beta?"

Europe IS the open Beta where North American's must Pay to participate before the release takes place here!

I find this both odd, hilarious, and partly genious on the part of this barebones budgeted company! They are injecting funds into their company! If they are this creative in the game, then who knows, they just might have something!

I am inserting a poll because I am curious as to how many North Americans will pay to play on the European Servers:

Then...when's the European open beta gonna start?

Is this a joke topic?   The title of this thread implies something that is not true.  You make assumptions as fact when they are not.   There are still 3 weeks until release, and open betas typically do not occur until the last week / weekend before a release, if at all.  Plus your putting up a poll on probably one of the most hostile forums towards the game on any website expecting to somehow validate your own viewpoint.

not out yet.. some people are speculating somewhere from 2 weeks till 2 days b4 the 22nd... and others say it may not happen at all

Yeah I don't know why so many US players are complaining about lack of info, I expect it will be a while before US servers launch by which time you will know everything there is to know about this game.  If you are expecting to play on Euro servers it's going to be expensive with the current exchange rate, probably like $20 a month if they use standard prices.  I can't say I blame them for delaying the US launch as they might be able to make 30% more on box sales if they wait six months in the hope that the exchange rate will become more reasonable, that's a lot of extra money that they could potentially make.

Personally I won't be playing if they don't charge UK players in pounds.

YOU are making an assumption, that I am making an assumtion, and trying to validate an assumption... when actually, I am IMPLYING, that it is the OPEN Beta and curious if people will pay to play?

What are you talking about?  Where are you getting this information?  They have been saying from the beggining there will be a time to test out the game for free, one way or another.

USD is worth more or is equal to the Euro now.. so it depends.

While this is generally true, by now in a game's development, certain details are known -- minimum and recommended system specs, pricing details and subscription models, how and where to buy the game, etc. None of these things are known about Darkfall, and we're less than three weeks out. That's a problem.

Most games by now would be going gold with the discs being printed and pre-orders being taken, and concrete information out there for potential players. That's not the case here. Sure, there are screenshots, videos, and the word of people connected to Aventurine that say it's all a go on Jan. 22nd, but there's no outside verification of any of that. There's simply no indication that Jan. 22nd is anything other than a paid open beta, since Aventurine hasn't seen fit to say otherwise, and yes, I've looked at their forums.

Also, I can't think of the last MMO that was released without an open beta. Open betas are some of the best advertising for a game because anyone can play and see if they enjoy an MMO before it comes out. Who went live without an open beta?

    • Will NA players be paying VAT (Value Added Tax) as well?
    • If so, how is it collected, and by who?
    • Will NA players need to re-buy the game when the NA server comes out?
    • Or, will they be able to login to the NA server with the European client?
    • Will they be able to download the NA client for free if they already purchased the European client?
    • Will the NA players be able to transfer their character to the NA server?
    • Who is handling the billing for DarkFall?
    • What forms of payment will be accepted?
    • Will there be game cards?
    • Will the client be able to be downloaded in advance of Release day?
    • Will Closed Beta players be able to keep their login and character name for Release day?
    • If there is more than one server, where can we find the name of servers so that we can inform our Clan which one to use?
    • Is there a way we can test the ping and latency to the server(s) before Release day to determine which one will be the best fit for us?
    • Is there a phone number for Customer Support we call if we have trouble downloading or installing the game on Release Day?
    • If not, is there an e-mail address we can use?
    • What kind of in-game support can we expect?
    • Will there be a Trouble-ticket system in-game or a way to send bugs and reports of exploits to a GM?
    • What kind of an update schedule can we expect?

Those would be a sampling of the questions I would hope are answered pretty soon.  Granted they still have plenty of time to get all that to use well before launch so I'm not too worried.

I predict open beta won't even happen.  Just like terrible movies are never pre-screened for critics for fear of early reviews stifling opening day ticket sales.

    Just my prediction...

I believe the OP meant that Aventurine will launch with NO Open Beta in Europe first, probably on the 22nd like they said, and Americans will have to pay for a game that should be in Open Beta, but that is already released. If ANY company charges for an Open Beta, when the main objective of an Open Beta is to really test STRESS loads by thousands of players, they're out of their minds.

OP am I right? Seems like people are taking you too literally if I am.

Do only North Americans have to pay?

So when I'm from Europe I can play the Beta for free? Where do you take your informations from?

Yes, that is what I was implying! Thanks for clarifying :)

No problem. If indeed there is no Open Beta, or not even any news of it, I will be on your side.

Edit to your reply: Yes, Sarcasm is nice. I like it, so I can detect it more often than other people it seems.

The fact that none of these questions have answers less than three weeks before a game's supposed release date should be a HUGE red flag for potential players. Seriously. If you don't know any of these things by now, and none of the devs have answered these questions, how can you trust that the game will come out at all, or that it's even as far along in development as Aventurine has claimed?

None of those questions should be unanswerable so close to a game coming out, especially if it's one that's pay to play.

    Yup.

    17 days and counting...

I had really expected Tasos to man up and post something on the official boards today.  Oh well.  I would guess that even the ardent supporters would expect some sort of an update before the 22nd?

Perhaps not.  Perhaps we already know all that we will ever know about DarkFall's Release.

I don't expect them to announce any of this before release and I don't think that it is unreasonable for them not to.  I would like to know the answer to some questions regarding payment myself but as I can't buy it at the moment there is no reason to need this info.  I would imagine that if it is download only the first opportunity to find this stuff out will be when the download site launches.  Why announce it before? I can't see any reason to do this.  Also I can't see why this is huge red flag?? Why exactly?

Yea I will. I'm not hurting for money, and this game has really sparked my interest. I'll be there with bells on.

    Maybe a bow too.

Heh... you're an easy customer to please.

I expect companies that want me to use their services to be a bit more "open" before I willingly give them my money and CC information.

If they let us download the client AND try out the game for a few days BEFORE asking for any form of payment... then yeah, I'd probably go along with that.  For some reason... I really doubt that will be the case.

Of course it's unreasonable for them not to say anything so close to release. Who willingly buys from a business that doesn't tell you how much a product will cost, what kind of system you'll need to run it, and how you can buy it in the first place, or pay for it once it goes live?
I would like to know the answer to some questions regarding payment myself but as I can't buy it at the moment there is no reason to need this info.
Quite frankly, that's ridiculous. If they're a reputable business, and they want people to buy their product, they'd have these answers available now, less than three weeks before the game goes live. That's just common sense.
I would imagine that if it is download only the first opportunity to find this stuff out will be when we first the download site.
So the only time you're going to find out any information at all about the price, the system specs, and all of the issues raised in those questions is when you go to buy the game, and that's okay?

Wow. That's some dedication to an unknown game company. I'd want to know a hell of a lot more first.

At the moment neither you or I are customers and they are not even giving you the opportunity to give them your money.  You can't use there services even if you want to, at the moment there is no service. Red flag would be expecting you to type in your card details without telling you how much it's going to cost.

As long as all this information is available when the download site launches then I can't see the problem.
