No but I will do the free trial if they have it. I got a lot of email addy's so I can try it a few times. Once in the beginning. Another after they release a nice patch, etc...
I don't expect them to announce any of this before release and I don't think that it is unreasonable for them not to. Of course it's unreasonable for them not to say anything so close to release. Who willingly buys from a business that doesn't tell you how much a product will cost, what kind of system you'll need to run it, and how you can buy it in the first place, or pay for it once it goes live? You can't buy it at the moment. I would like to know the answer to some questions regarding payment myself but as I can't buy it at the moment there is no reason to need this info. Quite frankly, that's ridiculous. If they're a reputable business, and they want people to buy their product, they'd have these answers available now, less than three weeks before the game goes live. That's just common sense. It's not ridiculous at all. It's not common sense. You can't buy anything from them so you don't need to know this info. Lots of companies don't give out price info until a product launches, this is not exactly unusual. I would imagine that if it is download only the first opportunity to find this stuff out will be when we first the download site. So the only time you're going to find out any information at all about the price, the system specs, and all of the issues raised in those questions is when you go to buy the game, and that's okay?
Yes that's fine, why would I need to know the details of something I can't buy? Wow. That's some dedication to an unknown game company. I'd want to know a hell of a lot more first. It's got nothing to do with this particular company, I might not even buy this game. The would stand for any business. You can't preorder, you can't buy any service? Why need to know? Just for the sake of knowing??
You're right, it is unreasonable to expect that a company would want to dispel the popular sentiment that they don't know WTF they are doing until the day of release.
If you're selling to morons, then peek-a-boo is a pretty good business tactic.
(But they're not selling the game yet!) Agreed, and from all available information- they won't be able to.
Companies announce information when they are ready to do so. Not being ready to do so 2 weeks before an alleged release is a red flag despite your ability to grin and bear it.

The fact that none of these questions have answers less than three weeks before a game's supposed release date should be a HUGE red flag for potential players. Seriously. If you don't know any of these things by now, and none of the devs have answered these questions, how can you trust that the game will come out at all, or that it's even as far along in development as Aventurine has claimed? None of those questions should be unanswerable so close to a game coming out, especially if it's one that's pay to play.

I expect companies that want me to use their services to be a bit more "open" before I willingly give them my money and CC information.
If they let us download the client AND try out the game for a few days BEFORE asking for any form of payment... then yeah, I'd probably go along with that. For some reason... I really doubt that will be the case.
I don't see why they should be expected to provide this information ahead of time. Just because other people have done so does not mean that there is any real reason to do so. They are protecting themselves from being called another DnL. If they talked about money in this way and people gave it and then the game does flop, which would be the same scenario that happened to DnL, people, probably people like you, would be very angry.
The same people that have been whining about vaporware would be up in arms if this happened.
Of course, I really want this game to succeed, so I hope this is a non-issue, but surely you understand their desire to protect themselves.

Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

Yeah. It's an annoying little thing called the principle of the matter. Blodpls, you're right. It's not out yet so technically we don't really need that info at the moment. However, the absence of such info during this "crunch time", only 3 or so weeks before release, paints a possibly misleading and, quite frankly, "fishy" picture.

The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

At the moment neither you or I are customers and they are not even giving you the opportunity to give them your money. You can't use there services even if you want to, at the moment there is no service. Red flag would be expecting you to type in your card details without telling you how much it's going to cost.
As long as all this information is available when the download site launches then I can't see the problem.
So, you are thinking that they will have all that information available when the "download site" launches?
And that "download site" will be available sometime on or before Jan. 22nd?
So, then what happens if they make the download available from this "download site"... but there is no information to go along with it? Just a little box where you get to type in your CC #... then what?

If your answer is no, then it would be logical to assume that they will in fact need to "talk about money" at some point. They will need to talk about how our money gets from us to them. They will need to talk about how their service gets from them to us. That is way paying for a service works.
Not talking about it, doesn't make that part of the equation go away.
Doesn't matter. A reputable company tells you how much a product will cost before you buy it. A reputable game company will tell you system specs, subscription models, pricing info, and all that long before their game goes live. That's how reputable businesses work. Yes and they can tell you that before it launches, 1 minute before or even at the same. As long as this info is available at launch then that is reputable. I just don't see how they could possible be acting disreputably when you can't buy anything, try taking this to Trading Standards or the equivalent in your country and watch them laugh at you.
Consumers are not unreasonable to expect to find out price, monthly sub fees, system specs, taxes, and anything else they will have to pay for before a game goes on sale, and before an MMO goes live. You might not like that, but if Darkfall intends to be a pay-to-play game, those are the expectations that have to be met. If it did have some kind impact like for example they were preorders and stating how much cost then that would be unreasonable.
Oh, I don't know. When it is available to purchase then I would expect to have information made available to make a decision. Until then it is pointless. If a new DVD player was being launched I wouldn't expect to know the retail price before it was in the shop.
Seriously this is retarded, if you went into a shop and said "I want to buy the xgadget 2000 when it launches in 3 weeks time, how much will it cost" and the guy said "I don't know" that is disreputable business??

Couldn't have answered them better myself.
It's called professionalism. It's what sets apart a great company from an average company. Right now... Aventurine is looking LESS than average.

Thats fine but you are trying to have a discussion about money and the other side isn't interested in talking about this. They aren't even really attempting to sell you service (they are not advertising it to you). When they start selling you something that is the time to start asking questions. Otherwise it's like going to a hotel that isn't fully constructed and not accepting bookings and asking how much the rooms are.

If they want you to place the order with them... then ABSOLUTELY!
If they can't tell you how much the xgadget 2000 costs, then I'll get it from someone else. If nobody knows the price, then I'll do without.
Would this be a better scenario in your opinion?
You say: "I want to buy the xgadget 2000 when it launches in 17 days time, how much will it cost?"
the shop guy says: "I don't know how much it costs. I don't even know where you can order it. I'm not even sure if it will work with your model of xgadget."
You say: "That's o.k. I'll still get one anyway. Just let me know how much it costs when you order it"
Ok, I can see there's some confusion and misapprehension about Darkfalls launch on the 22nd so ill clear things up for all you guys.
I can personally assure all of you that Darkfalls release will be handled in a highly professional and competent manner.
On or before the 22nd Tasos will post a link for a bit torrent on the news section for the open beta client so we will all be ready to participate in the open beta after it has finished.
Alternatively after the 22nd you can contact him by email requesting a copy of the release client which he will burn personally for you on a blank CD using his laptop with the words DF Client V 1.0 written on the front with a black marker pen which you will receive in the post sometime "soon" along with a 5 page photocopied game guide in Greek language only.
Tasos mum, girl friend and other assorted members of his family and friends will be manning the phones at his house 24/7 and will be willing and available to handle the billing and any customer and technical support enquires you may have.
All that will be required is that you have the necessary funds in your pay pall account ready or a check book, envelope and a postage stamp so you can receive your account key.
Aventurine believe that any answers to your questions about the system requirements, the cost of the client and the subscription fee or any other questions surrounding open beta and release or even exactly what features will be implemented for release would only ruin the surprise for us.

Show me a hotel that opens in 17 days that doesn't have their room prices set... and I'll admit you're right.

The difference is that you are saying that the product is available to order in advance and the guy is willing to sell you it.
In my example the shop guy would say "Come back when it's in stock", which is fine by normal standards applied to any business.

was that supposed to be funny??
weird I used to respect your posts... now your just your average everyday troll with non-stop whines... maybe it's time you move on
Let us continue to compare the computer games industries to other industries that do things in a different manner for different reasons, in order to continue this parade of stupidity!
Hey man- it'd be fine if CVS didn't know the price for the new twizzler strawberries 17 days before they got released! So it's fine for me here.
There's a million and one excuses we can make for Aventurine not releasing information as the "release date" slips closer and closer. heh, but I've yet to hear one as dumb as "well I personally am okay with not having the info, so they have no reason to give it to anyone". It's a new height. Or perhaps a new low.
I liked it, Polarization. In your time of despair, for losing the respect of one mcpoopypantz, I'd like to offer you my deepest condolences. The nights ahead will be cold and loney after this aburpt change, but I'm sure you will have the strength to carry on.

Thats fine then don't buy it when it releases if it's so important to you. I suspect however that when it does release that you will be basing purchasing decisions on what the reaction to the game is rather than what information was available x days before. If this turns out to be the case it will validate everything that I have been arguing.

All that will be required is that you have the necessary funds in your pay pall account ready or a check book, envelope and a postage stamp so you can receive your account key. Aventurine believe that any answers to your questions about the system requirements, the cost of the client and the subscription fee or any other questions surrounding open beta and release or even exactly what features will be implemented for release would only ruin the surprise for us.
was that supposed to be funny??
weird I used to respect your posts... now your just your average everyday troll with non-stop whines... maybe it's time you move on
I could be wrong... but I'm willing to bet this probably wasn't something that was reciprocated.
Seriously this is retarded, if you went into a shop and said "I want to buy the xgadget 2000 when it launches in 3 weeks time, how much will it cost" and the guy said "I don't know" that is disreputable business??
That's what computers are for. Most businesses can look up the SKU number for an item and find out how much something will cost. If I go to Gamestop and pre-order a game weeks before it comes out, I'll know just how much it will cost me.
For example, I've already pre-ordered The Sims 3. I know the collector's edition will run me $69.95 plus sales tax. I know what will come with it. I know the system specs for it already (they were released back in December) and that my computer can easily run it, and where and when to buy it. The game doesn't come out until late February, yet I have all of that information now, almost a month and a half before it is released.
Likewise, when I pre-ordered both my XBox 360 and Wii systems, I knew exactly how much they were going to cost me, extra controllers and accessories included, months in advance. I even had them completely paid off by the time the consoles came out just due to the shortages they had in the beginning, enabling me to get them that much faster because I was already paid up and ready to go.
Honestly, if I walked into a store and asked about an item and the clerk told me that, and didn't bother to do anything else to try and find out for me, I'd just go to another store. That's just laziness on that clerk's part in this day and age.
Comments
No but I will do the free trial if they have it. I got a lot of email addy's so I can try it a few times. Once in the beginning. Another after they release a nice patch, etc...

Hello my old friend.
None of those questions should be unanswerable so close to a game coming out, especially if it's one that's pay to play.
I don't expect them to announce any of this before release and I don't think that it is unreasonable for them not to. I would like to know the answer to some questions regarding payment myself but as I can't buy it at the moment there is no reason to need this info. I would imagine that if it is download only the first opportunity to find this stuff out will be when we first the download site.
Heh... you're an easy customer to please.
"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."
John Parry, to his son Will; "The Subtle Knife," by Phillip Pullman

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

Also I can't see why this is huge red flag?? Why exactly?
I'm kinda dismayed at your answer. Ignorance is bliss i guess.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I do not understand how not annoucing information 2 weeks before release protects Aventurine from anything related to DnL.
Simply said, if the information is real- it doesn't.
1. So potential customers can ready their systems and actually be able to play your game
2. To relieve the minds of investors and future customers around the world who aren't convinced that you aren't an amateur in professionals clothing.
3. To stop giving off the appearance that when it is announced, it's not because they just found out.
It's crazy, but some people don't want every aspect of a game they're interested to give off the vibe of sloppy, incompetent, or lazy amateurs.
Obviously, none of that is an issue for you. If you think that that's normal (or even good), you aren't just weird- you're a fool.
Just a little box where you get to type in your CC #... then what?

Well why would he expect more information? He hasn't paid for the game yet!

Are you thinking the game will be free?
If your answer is no, then it would be logical to assume that they will in fact need to "talk about money" at some point. They will need to talk about how our money gets from us to them. They will need to talk about how their service gets from them to us. That is way paying for a service works.
Not talking about it, doesn't make that part of the equation go away.
Seriously this is retarded, if you went into a shop and said "I want to buy the xgadget 2000 when it launches in 3 weeks time, how much will it cost" and the guy said "I don't know" that is disreputable business??
Blodpls, please read my post. You're just running around in circles.

When I'm energetic I'm:
the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
When I'm at default I'm:
WHITE/BLUE
Lol according to this I'm bipolar :O

If this turns out to be the case it will validate everything that I have been arguing.
was that supposed to be funny??
