Just a heads up; this game's been in development for going on 8 years now...I don't know how long you think it should take a company to fully flesh out an MMO, but that's stretching it IMO.

By the time they do come out with a xbox360 version of the game, the new xbox will be out. So I would cross that off the list. Great read though, really shows why Tasos should keep his mouth shut.
To be honested I wouldn't say Tasos has gone all out from the beginning to deceive the MMO community, because if you think about, what would be the point in that. A complete waste of his life would be the point.
If you try to put his comments into some sort of perspective, and look at where he started out, we see he was business educated, but brand new to developing mmo's.
It's likely that a lot of the comments he made, were based on blind optimism, or a lack of knowledge at the time, on how things would pan out. We at least have been educated, that there were a couple of points, where the game developers went back to the drawing board, so this may account for some of the premature beta predictions.
Has Tasos been untruthful, well yes. Are his comments outright porkers, some may feel they are, some feel not. To me the comments he has come out with are based on some sort of truth, i.e when he talks about beta, there has probably always been some sort of a beta, in one shape or another, but not the huge open or closed beta's, that we've come to know.
At the end of the day we have all lied, we have all exaggerated, and all said things based on a false belief.
To be fair the op's approach is much better then the "Tasos is the biggest lier in the history of humanity" threads, which we seen so often. My only qualm is the epic danger picture he paints by investing a minimal amount of money into a game. I can't see the point in prejudging a game based on comments made by a developer until you've actually played then game, but thats just me.
For me, what has given me a little more belief in the game over the past months, are the Gianna from the noob previews, and the beta leaks vids. The Gianna previews because if you actually take time to look at her site, she is admittedly a good friend of Tasos, however at the same time appears pretty genuine in own her character & nature, and it is obvious her loyalty lies to her comic, not this game.
The beta vid's for me, have shown a game that looks fun to play, whilst showing the basic ingredients to work well as an mmorpg. I'm not saying it will work well, but I can see potential from the vids. There are one or two vid's that have shown the graphics in hi rez with shadows, and although they are not in oblivion league, they are adequate, and the world looks as though it could be really immersive. The animations as most have said, are admittedly below par, but to many this is not a game recker.
In the end I think many of us have wasted money on games at some point or another and if Darkfall turn's out to be a really stinker, then we loose a few bucks, and some of our precious time. Honestly though, some of these huge Darkfall warning threads (although quite constructive), give you the impression that your buying into some epic world disaster, and your life will be ruined by playing the game.

Yeah its been going a while but its their game so they can take as long as they want as far as I'm concerned. What matters is the gameplay on release against what else is in the market at that point.

Some of the DF followers are in beta so why can`t you let them decide if the game is good or not. Most of us don`t think like you do. Honestly, we think most mmo`s are bad because they don`t have full-loot or the gameplay is boring. I know you think we are nuts because we like newbie pvp in DF better than clearing a high end instance in WOW, but we do. Accept it.
Frankly I do not care if Aventurine is lying, trying to scam me of 15$ or somehow wants to hurt the feeling of a grown up man. If the game is bad we will move on like we did with AoC, WAR and all the other games we have tried over the last 10 years. Even if newbie PvP is all DF have, it will in my opinion still be better than most I`ve tried from AO to WAR.

There's been very little hype from the developers themselves. Any hype has been word off mouth over the past 6mths to year by the customer base itself.
The developers since they are designing the game don't have to disclose anything to the community... they and Tasos would have been far better having said nothing at all imo. At the end off the day open reviews are just as useless as nothing being said at all in todays gaming market, the only way to judge a game is to play it yourself on release or wait for a free trial to appear. I would certainly not trust any open review system by most off the leading magazines or game sites this one included.
Saying nothing does not mean you have something to hide, it means you could have something to hide or it could mean you just want to create your game and couldn't care less what others thought of it. If it fails then its not due straying from the vision you had. It could be for any number of reasons.

It would have been far more constructive as a discussion topic if he'd shortened the examples and went on to show reasons why pro/con that some off these statements don't always live up to the full truth in the cold light of day and maybe some examples of this in other development cycles.
