Some people are saying Darkfall wasn't vaporware because a game called Darkfall is being released right now. I have to point out that they are incorrect, everything that has been revealed by the Darkfall beta has proven that Darkfall was vaporware all along. Say what? Here is why:
The whole idea of vaporware is that the developers are hyping a product that they cannot deliver, and lying about the status of their product. As we now know, this was true all along with Darkfall, they have been making claims about the status and features of the game for several years, and it is clear now that those claims were not true. The game lacks many of the features that were supposed to make it ground breaking, and is in a non-finished state of development. Many features which supposedly exist are "turned off" for mysterious reasons. Basically, it is a game, but it is not the game that was claimed, it is not and was not at the state of development that was claimed. SO WE KNOW NOW FOR A FACT THAT DARKFALL WAS VAPORWARE.
Ever since anyone mentioned vaporware back in 2003 it has always been claimed by "trolls" that one of the most likely scenarios is the Darkfall devs will eventually release whatever twisted, mangled, broken piece of software they have managed to develop and see how many suckers they can get to pay for it before everyone realizes how little the project has delivered. In fact, this is one of the main endgames that happens with vaporware, essentially it is a bait and switch, you promise a revolutionary and amazing product, then eventually release a mediocre product with little resemblance to what you had promised. The promised amazing product was just vaporware, it doesn't mean there is no product at all, but that the product being promised was never going to materialize into reality.
This is exactly what has happened with Darkfall and why it was vaporware. Aventurine is releasing a game, but it is not the product that was promised, not in the state of development that was claimed, and pretty much every review you can read will tell you this, even many reviews that claim to be fans of the game are warning people it is not the game they were expecting and it has many problems.
So, yes, nearly everything the "trolls" said has been proven true. The speculation that Aventurine weren't even trying to make a game was incorrect, but the fact they were not being honest about the features and state of development of their project is obviously true.
I can sum it all up in a simple to understand image:
The one and only.
Comments
Anyone with an IQ higher than their age already knows this. Any that denies it clearly failed the pre-requisite for the previous group.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
It'll get sold to a f2p company in china and get released as a pile of poop.
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product. The term implies unwarranted optimism, an as yet unannounced abandonment of a project, or sometimes even deception; that is, it may imply that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility. However, most vaporware would not be considered a hoax since the makers have a genuine intention to create their product, even if it ultimately never materializes. Products with unspecified release dates or long development times that outwardly demonstrate regular, verifiable progress in production are not normally labelled vaporware."
So no. You are wrong. It did not fail to materialize. It just failed to be good and or deliver what's promised. For further examples of this phenomena, see every other MMO on the market more or less - all of them promise the world and never deliver even half of it (remember WoW had player housing districts built into cities?). Many take way too long. But they're not vaporware by definition.
Note: I am not defending Darkfall here, I'm probably not even going to play it (I loathe open PvP as a former UO player). Just saying: It's not vaporware, it's just a crappy game made by way few people for way little money
Those Sham wow things work really good FYI.
That's not what I heard.
The one and only.
They don't work like the commercial. Not even close.
Yeah, I never actually bought one of those but they are made with the same material that has been used in other countless products like that. Remember that Billy Mays guy on TV, he (or whoever he represented) released one made of the same material that I actually purchased and it works really well. I use it to dry my car after I wash it. Thing can hold a ton of water.
This is going off topic though.
So...
I won't be picking up Darkfall anyways, because everything people have been saying seems true (features not working, configuarations not working) I don't wan't to alpha test a game, and from what I've read the game has no content. So really, anyone sticking up for Darkfall at this point is either 1) Too arrogant to admit they were wrong 2) Oblivious and love wasting money.
What are you talking about? What features have been dropped that we didn't know of already? All I can think of is the lack of npcs but everyone knew from the beginning that this was not a game geared towards PvE so that shouldn't matter. So what else was dropped that we didn't already know? Prestige Classes? POH? No and No we already knew those two were out a long time ago, hmm lets see, the mahirim four legged run perhaps, but we were told about it a few weeks back, which is not enough time if you ask me so that kind of counts I guess. So please enlighten me on what we are missing, FFA Full loot (check), guild cities (check), skilled based combat (check), worthwhile crafting (check), boat battles (haven't seen nor heard much about them but they are supposed to be in so I guess this deserves a check as well), et cetera. Anyway you get the point, stop trying to hang on to a stupid argument that has already been proven wrong, and sorry to say this, but quit
My guess is they just want a large map mod of Battlefield 2 or some other popular FPS in which to upset people who play MMORPGs. :P
How about server capacity, world size, lag free battles with hundreds of players, and that everyone would get to try before they buy?
But it is obvious from even your own list that you are bending over backwards to apologize for this game, and the end product is not what was expected.
The one and only.
link, no one is telling you not to purchase the game, by all means be the first person there F5'ing your little heart away. Just don't come bitching back on this forum when your little hopes and dreams are crushed when you actually play it while trying to tell yourself, "This is cool". When they actually release a finished product, I'll be happy to give it a second look. Until they actually give the things they said was going to be there in the beginning, I'll be more then happy to play it.

First off, I haven't heard any official numbers on server capacity so I wouldn't be able to comment on that, world size is supposed to be pretty big from what I hear so I don't know what you are talking about (although I hear it's pretty barren), most of the reviews I've seen state that the game is pretty lag free and has an extremely stable client although none of them actually fought with hundreds of players so I can't really say anything there, and they did lie about the trial which does kind of piss me off but that does NOT make it vaporware like "trolls" say.
I am not bending over anything neither am I apologizing for this game, I have yet to try it so I cannot be sure that it will be what I expect but it is not vaporware and that is a ridiculous statement, I also don't expect a perfect game because I am actually realistic unlike spoiled 12 year olds who want a MMO to be perfect from the start.
Who said anything about you guys telling me to buy it or not? I am not stupid enough to actually base my opinions on what I hear on a forum, and unlike a lot of you guys I rarely complain about a game, when AoC was about to come out I supported it, same thing with WAR, and when they disappointed me I did not troll their forums, I just want every game to succeed simply so that I can have another good game to play but I'm mature enough to not vent my anger over a game on a forum, so please cease your ignorant comments about what I will do or not do, I'm just saying it's not Vaporware so stop trying to defend your faux arguments.
It amazes me when people can't admit they were wrong about something.
and by that definition almost every piece of software released is pretty much vaporware.

The definition of vaporware:

Exactly
The world size is not all that big, just seems that way due to how slow you move. Even with slow movement you can run (without using sprint much at all) across the main land in about an hour. As for stable client myself and a few others I've talked with cannot open some parts of the UI w/o the game crashing.
I agree. It's entertaining to watch the trolls scramble in the days coming up to launch to justify their incessant screaming over the last year or so.
The real irony is that this is the 3rd or 4th thread on the same topic started by the same OP (SuperCrap) within the last few days, and even more ironic is that he's used that ShamWow photo in each one (if I remember correctly).
I'm not sure whether to believe that but if that's true then that is truly lame.
This is my first time posting here, and I post an honest opinion. You guys really need to know what a troll is, cause 3/4 of the people posting here are not trolls, but people stating their opinion, last time I looked that wasn't trolling. Just a simple way for someone to cop out on when they are angered by someone's opinion. Get over yourself.
Been watching this forum for a long time, and that word gets thrown around a lot, just like this vaporware one. Troll! You don't agree with me!!!! Troll!!! Seriously, get over yourself, when someone doesn't agree with you its not to anger you, but they simply don't like the same crap you do.

I don't think that anyone is scrambling (maybe SuperCrap is) the game is an over hyped piece of crap and in about a week everyone who's not a delusional fanboy will know that a shit leopard can never change it's spots.
Don't get me wrong though, there is potential in there somewhere. It just burried deep underneath all of the crap.
Last time I checked, spreading false information on a forum to incite fights is trolling, which is what they are doing, I'm not saying the game rocks or that they are wrong for not liking the game, but it is not vaporware and anyone that says it is, is simply TROLLING whether you like it or not. Of course if they give an opinion about why they dislike the game then they are not trolls but I don't see anyone actually doing that in this thread.
I'm not sure whether to believe that but if that's true then that is truly lame.
It took me about an hour give or take 10-15 minutes to travel along the dotted line in this pic. I will re-travel it later while timing more closely if anyone is interested.
I would say I only sprinted about 15-20% of that distance.
I'm interested, but there is also 4 other continents.
