This is my first time posting here, and I post an honest opinion. You guys really need to know what a troll is, cause 3/4 of the people posting here are not trolls, but people stating their opinion, last time I looked that wasn't trolling. Just a simple way for someone to cop out on when they are angered by someone's opinion. Get over yourself.
Been watching this forum for a long time, and that word gets thrown around a lot, just like this vaporware one. Troll! You don't agree with me!!!! Troll!!! Seriously, get over yourself.
Last time I checked, spreading false information on a forum to incite fights is trolling, which is what they are doing, I'm not saying the game rocks or that they are wrong for not liking the game, but it is not vaporware and anyone that says it is, is simply TROLLING whether you like it or not. Of course if they give an opinion about why they dislike the game then they are not trolls but I don't see anyone actually doing that in this thread.
I gave an opinion, but your blatant fanboyism ignored it. Read every single one of my posts where I say I won't be playing. My reason: I don't want to beta test a game. Hell, even reviews by plenty of the other beta testers have said this. The game is NOT ready.
I am in no way trolling, you guys are just simply in love with the idea of this game, and any time someone doesn't like it comes along, you feel a need to call them a troll simply because they don't like it.
The world size is not all that big, just seems that way due to how slow you move. Even with slow movement you can run (without using sprint much at all) across the main land in about an hour.
I'm not sure whether to believe that but if that's true then that is truly lame.
It took me about an hour give or take 10-15 minutes to travel along the dotted line in this pic. I will re-travel it later while timing more closely if anyone is interested.
I would say I only sprinted about 15-20% of that distance.
Oh well that's only going across on a strickly straight line so it doesn't really represent the actual size of the world, of course it is a lot smaller than what was said which I find VERY disappointing but I guess I'll wait to try it myself.
Yea I know there are, along w/ all that water too. However, many people were led to believe that the main island was massive and it would take hours to get across on foot, unless you sprinted the entire way drinking stamina potions. The journey above was w/o stopping at all, rarely sprinting and not using anything to regen stamina.

I am not really a "fanboy" of any particular game and I don't really care that much that this game will release unfinished because that is the nature of MMORPGs and as long as it entertains me I don't mind paying the monthly fee. I do love the idea of this game but I don't expect it to be the perfect game that I dream of and I don't feel the need to call anyone a troll because they don't like it, I just stated that if they simply said they didn't like it I would never call them a troll. I called the OP a troll because he is still arguing that DF is vaporware, which is a complete lie which means he is trolling.

I won't be picking up Darkfall anyways, because everything people have been saying seems true (features not working, configuarations not working) I don't wan't to alpha test a game, and from what I've read the game has no content. So really, anyone sticking up for Darkfall at this point is either 1) Too arrogant to admit they were wrong 2) Oblivious and love wasting money.
wrong. see my sig. i've had it for awhile.
they lived up to the things that I cared about in the gameplay department, and the gameplay is pretty much what i was expecting.
* i suspected alot of more "advanced" features would not make it or be delayed. i didn't care then, i don't care now.
* the grind is what i was expecting, maybe a little worse.
* i knew melee was gonna suck and tend to have randomish outcomes. there's still some skill involved, just not as much as ranged fighting, i've ALWAYS hated melee combat in FPS games .
* i knew that being a lonewolf will limit what you can do and see in the world, and be very frustrating dying to unfair fights where you are outnumbered or out-equipped (oftentimes BOTH).
* i knew how much you grinded in the game (your armour/weapons/items/"skill"-levels) would play too big of a role in combat, and real life skills would be largely mitigated when it comes to who wins or loses. THIS IS AN RPG hybrid (unfortunately), thats the nature of basing alot of an outcome on rolling dice. at least its not TOTALLY rpg, so it doesn't totally suck.
* i knew the convoluted rogue system would be exploited and you'd see alot of lore conflicting actions in the game. it conflicts with the sandbox nature of course to try to quantify "good" and "evil"
HOWEVER, its ALOT more fun to fight (even PVE) in Darkfall than it is in any other MMORPG i've tried, and i've played virtually all non-asian 3D MMOs. including a bunch most of you guys probably never heard of.
some ways they surpassed my expectations:
* they lived up to the promise that mobs would be more like quake bots. i wasn't expecting that to be so good, they can really surprise you. i've wondered a number of times if a dev didn't jump in and take control of something i was fighting because of its tactics. they surround and flank you and help each other with similar teamwork that a guild would use sometimes
* the world is immersive and creative. MUCH better than what i was expecting. there's not much boring landscape-wise. just about every area of the world has points of interest, oftentimes they'll be things of interest in every direction and you are torn about which way to go. which looks like the most fun to explore.
* the world IS huge (this is not necessarily a good thing in my book, huge worlds have made alot of MMOs seem pretty lifeless, altho it makes more sense for darkfall being that sometimes you wanna go somewhere secluded away from all the gank mobs).
as much as i've enjoyed the beta (i've been in for a little more than 2 weeks) i am guessing i won't subscribe but 1-4 months, because the rpg aspects drag it down just like i knew they would. i suppose its POSSIBLE (not very likely) i could run across a guild of mostly good guys (good personality-wise mostly) which could make me subscribe for much longer.
as a primarily solo player (and small pickup group player) its rare you find yourself in a fair fight unless you are aggressive towards someone of the same race for no other reason than you want to have a fair fight for a change. people often hide and jump out to try to finish you off if you got real low on health from fighting mobs, etc. you often see huge groups attack much smaller groups or even just one loner who doesn't even HAVE any equipment to loot.
anyways, except for the pleasant surprises i've had, things are pretty much exactly how i expected them to be.

I've done the trip many times too. If it's taking you that long, you're letting something distract you. I know for a fact it's less than an hour and 30 minutes. As I started watching a movie about 10 minutes before I started the journey the last time and was complete (hardly ever sprinting) before it finished. The movie's run time is one hour 29 minutes.
Of course if they give an opinion about why they dislike the game then they are not trolls but I don't see anyone actually doing that in this thread.
How am I putting words in your mouth? You said this, go back and read page 3 if you don't believe me.
Now tell me again, you never said I was a troll right after I got done saying I posted my opinion.
Really, this hole you're in is getting deeper and deeper. Its apparent by how irate you are getting capping words and cursing/insulting me while knowing you are wrong.

read my sig. i called it.
You called it in your opinion. I ve seen it as well a bad game all around. The combat is just click click click click. There is nothing to it at all. I can honestly say anyone who plays it at release is just paying to test. Yes alot of games at release are not in the greatest shape, but this game needs ALOT more time. Yet people are willing to fork over money to an incomplete, boring game. This is my opinion so please don t come on here and say I m wrong, because in my eyes i m not
You said this: Of course if they give an opinion about why they dislike the game then they are not trolls but I don't see anyone actually doing that in this thread. Ok, hmm, I don't know how to explain this for you but I guess it was kind of unclear, when I said that, I was talking to you BUT not referring to you, I don't know if you comprehend that but I never meant that towards you but towards the people saying DF is vaporware, I know what you stated is your opinion and I honestly don't think you are trolling, I actually think you are right that people call others trolls way too often but I rarely post and I only do it when I think someone is completely wrong, such as this case (just to clarify, I am not referring to you by saying this either, I am referring to the OP). I am not in any hole neither am I "irate" nor trying to insult you, it's just that you are drawing conclusions from thin air, like I said before, I did not call YOU a troll, I called the OP a troll.
By the way, I cap things for emphasis not for anger, I find it helps convey what I mean better but it doesn't seem to be working that well.
Ok, sorry then for the confusion also. I just don't want others to think of me as a troll here, been watching these forums 1+ year (or however long they have been up since I registered) I just didn't post until I knew more about the game.
link, no one is telling you not to purchase the game, by all means be the first person there F5'ing your little heart away. Just don't come bitching back on this forum when your little hopes and dreams are crushed when you actually play it while trying to tell yourself, "This is cool". When they actually release a finished product, I'll be happy to give it a second look. Until they actually give the things they said was going to be there in the beginning, I'll be more then happy to play it.
Who said anything about you guys telling me to buy it or not? I am not stupid enough to actually base my opinions on what I hear on a forum, and unlike a lot of you guys I rarely complain about a game, when AoC was about to come out I supported it, same thing with WAR, and when they disappointed me I did not troll their forums, I just want every game to succeed simply so that I can have another good game to play but I'm mature enough to not vent my anger over a game on a forum, so please cease your ignorant comments about what I will do or not do, I'm just saying it's not Vaporware so stop trying to defend your faux arguments.
It shows. Quit supporting games just because. Please. It only leads to supporting bad games (I'm talking in general now) and this is something that goes agains the players interest. Thank you.

Yes because saying nothing but negative stuff without any ground sure is helping the genre. I obviously stop supporting them when I find them boring which is what most people should do and what actually changes the way games are made. Gripping all day on a forum won't help players' interests but judgement based on actual evidence will help make the change in a game that WILL benefit players' interests. So please quit being so negative all the time because it is counter productive.
So does this mean we will finally see some main stream reviews of this game? I guess it will, nothing to stop them now. If they can get in the limited release that is.

Darkfall is far from perfect and it definitely didn't meet all of its goals but it still me enough of them to become one heckuva fun and addicting game for me.
I will buy it. In fact, I am very worried that with a limited amount of subs being offered that I might miss out on it. That's all that counts for me. Am I enjoying this game? You better believe it, I am. I also realize this game isn't for everyone and some of the differences will be quite a shock to so many out there that are used to alot more glitz and glamor.
I am no blind fanboi either. I really love this game and even though it isn't completed, there is nothing out there right now that is going to do me any better than this game. In fact, I already know that when Darkfall is over for me, I will be spoiled by its game play and features and probably not be able to get into another MMORPG again because how they all follow the same fruity line.

Are you telling me that the fighting in that game spoiled you? Wow, it had to be the worst I ve ever seen. Constantly clicking, you ll have to get a new mouse weekly in that game. Anyways to each their own, almost everything iI was looking forward to was a huge downer to me and the reason I will never get this game.

Stopped reading right there. If the first sentence of your argument contains an invalid description of a word then your entire argument is pretty much moot. Go learn what the word means then rewrite your wall of text. Or don't. Either way you already got what you wanted, attention... from someone... ANYone...

If that line is accurate, you're looking at maybe 3 hours at normal speed to go from the soithwest corner of the map to the northeast corner. Guess Tasos lost 5 hours worth of land somewhere..

Some people are saying Darkfall wasn't vaporware because a game called Darkfall is being released right now. I have to point out that they are incorrect, everything that has been revealed by the Darkfall beta has proven that Darkfall was vaporware all along. Say what? Here is why:
The whole idea of vaporware is that the developers are hyping a product that they cannot deliver, and lying about the status of their product. As we now know, this was true all along with Darkfall, they have been making claims about the status and features of the game for several years, and it is clear now that those claims were not true. The game lacks many of the features that were supposed to make it ground breaking, and is in a non-finished state of development. Many features which supposedly exist are "turned off" for mysterious reasons. Basically, it is a game, but it is not the game that was claimed, it is not and was not at the state of development that was claimed. SO WE KNOW NOW FOR A FACT THAT DARKFALL WAS VAPORWARE.
Ever since anyone mentioned vaporware back in 2003 it has always been claimed by "trolls" that one of the most likely scenarios is the Darkfall devs will eventually release whatever twisted, mangled, broken piece of software they have managed to develop and see how many suckers they can get to pay for it before everyone realizes how little the project has delivered. In fact, this is one of the main endgames that happens with vaporware, essentially it is a bait and switch, you promise a revolutionary and amazing product, then eventually release a mediocre product with little resemblance to what you had promised. The promised amazing product was just vaporware, it doesn't mean there is no product at all, but that the product being promised was never going to materialize into reality.
This is exactly what has happened with Darkfall and why it was vaporware. Aventurine is releasing a game, but it is not the product that was promised, not in the state of development that was claimed, and pretty much every review you can read will tell you this, even many reviews that claim to be fans of the game are warning people it is not the game they were expecting and it has many problems.
So, yes, nearly everything the "trolls" said has been proven true. The speculation that Aventurine weren't even trying to make a game was incorrect, but the fact they were not being honest about the features and state of development of their project is obviously true.
I can sum it all up in a simple to understand image:
It's hard to grasp whether or not you are being sarcastic, but it stinks of it nevertheless....
By your definition of "Vaporware" EVERY MMO that has EVER been released (including WoW) is vaporware. If you're being serious, you're the dumbest moron i've seen in a very long time.
If you're being sarcastic, haha you got me !
The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity: Having a different opinion must mean you're a troll.

he probably meant going circle on shore.
Who, Tasos? Nope, his specific claim was 8 hours from one edge of the map to the other.

Last time I checked, spreading false information on a forum to incite fights is trolling, which is what they are doing, I'm not saying the game rocks or that they are wrong for not liking the game, but it is not vaporware and anyone that says it is, is simply TROLLING whether you like it or not. they lived up to the things that I cared about in the gameplay department, and the gameplay is pretty much what i was expecting.
* the world IS huge (this is not necessarily a good thing in my book, huge worlds have made alot of MMOs seem pretty lifeless, altho it makes more sense for darkfall being that sometimes you wanna go somewhere secluded away from all the gank mobs).
as much as i've enjoyed the beta (i've been in for a little more than 2 weeks) i am guessing i won't subscribe but 1-4 months, because the rpg aspects drag it down just like i knew they would. i suppose its POSSIBLE (not very likely) i could run across a guild of mostly good guys (good personality-wise mostly) which could make me subscribe for much longer.
as a primarily solo player (and small pickup group player) its rare you find yourself in a fair fight unless you are aggressive towards someone of the same race for no other reason than you want to have a fair fight for a change. people often hide and jump out to try to finish you off if you got real low on health from fighting mobs, etc. you often see huge groups attack much smaller groups or even just one loner who doesn't even HAVE any equipment to loot.
anyways, except for the pleasant surprises i've had, things are pretty much exactly how i expected them to be.
read my sig. i called it.

Bullshit!
I've done the trip, numerous times. Takes about an hour and 45 minutes running.
You said this:
Of course if they give an opinion about why they dislike the game then they are not trolls but I don't see anyone actually doing that in this thread.
How am I putting words in your mouth? You said this, go back and read page 3 if you don't believe me.
Now tell me again, you never said I was a troll right after I got done saying I posted my opinion.
Really, this hole you're in is getting deeper and deeper. Its apparent by how irate you are getting capping words and cursing/insulting me while knowing you are wrong.

This is my opinion so please don t come on here and say I m wrong, because in my eyes i m not
lol! yeah the shamwow guy DOES look alot like a firbolg in that picture!

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
I've been in beta,
Darkfall is far from perfect and it definitely didn't meet all of its goals but it still me enough of them to become one heckuva fun and addicting game for me.
ANYone...

If that line is accurate, you're looking at maybe 3 hours at normal speed to go from the soithwest corner of the map to the northeast corner. Guess Tasos lost 5 hours worth of land somewhere..

he probably meant going circle on shore.

Who, Tasos? Nope, his specific claim was 8 hours from one edge of the map to the other.
We are all tired of your bullshit supercrap
