omfg... Q4 release?!?! /fail /fail /fail

vonomousvonomous Member Posts: 357

They say its taking a long time to localize because they want it to perfectly fit our culture.  WTF...  I don't care if the cut-scenes are culturally specific, I don't even care if the cut-scenes are in the game at all.  I'm trying to play a game here ffs!  If I want a soap opera, thats what the idiot box is for!

Here's the news:

www.aionsource.com/forum/news-announcements/11593-aiononline-com-news-letter-our-fans.html

I think it's time to just bite the bullet and do whatever it takes to get on the Korean server now.  I don't need to read quest text to swat mobs and PvP in the abyss.  Just bring the damn game on already.

Q4 release is really a bad bad timing, if you need a year just for translate a game then you should hire more people or competent ones.

Anyway, the answer was fall 09, so im not sure that fits more to Q4 or Q3, sounds a delay to me tho.

    2) Why is localization taking so long?

The localization effort is enormous, with a vast amount of content. Aion is not simply being translated, a team of dedicated content writers are re-creating the written dialogue and content to provide AAA quality and to ensure that it is culturally relevant for our audience. We are going to do this launch "right" rather than fast.

I like that...and thats why AION will be a success

    Waiting: for FF14, Mass Effect

Localization isn't the only reason to delay this game, obviously they hide some issues because they never said a concrete date. Therefore isn't a delay for them.

But now the problem comes with the poor treatment. Since we know that this delay is ofc for almost a year, nowdays EU/NA community need a special reinforcement with constantly updates, cuz they failed in gave us new information since GC08.

Imo,Ncsoft works like a great monkey business, only a large event like a continued beta or preview could save them

I think it will be a success but to a smaller degree than possible with a faster release.

Even if they try to influence fansites like aionsource and others to not overly discuss gamecontent, nothing will prevent people from flodding the net with gameguides etc. which will decrease fun for explorers like me. Especially in a competitive game the people will gather as much information as they can and even if you try to avoid spoilers yourself, others in your groups/guild will most likely know much or all about the content.

Then there are the competitors flodding the market with new games when christmas is nearing and there are some big titles like D3 and SWTOR luring around the corner if not released about the same time. With a release in eg may, competition would be much smaller.

But perhaps they will at least get rid of this big funny rats running around in the towns everywhere

Most of the good mmos from the east have taken their time to come over to the west.

FFxi when it was released here it was a year already out in japan. we got a utterly polished unbugged ffxi at release.

Till then we know a beta will show up for us sooner or later. Also we were never promised a released date. Only that Aion will be released in the us and eu

This is true the Japanese release of the game was actually disapointing to a number of players as many promised features were not present. Sound familiar? But by the time it got to NA those things were added and bugs mostly squashed.

But I have to agree with some of the above that since GC08 they should have done a lot more then they have to keep fans interested and in the loop. Something went amiss somewhere, I'm continuing to blame a tanking economy until proven otherwise. Also they may want to completely avoid another bot invasion at release, perhaps they won't have the dreaded game guard...... >.>

Like I previously stated in my thread, www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/253/view/forums/thread/222491/Aion-US-Vaporware.html, the longer it takes them to release this game, the more they will screw themselves over in the long run. Regrettably for them, upcoming titles from goliath companies such as Blizzard will dominate the market in the 2009 Q4 to 2010 Q2 time frame. It is depressing and even unfathomable to witness such a tragedy in progress for NCSoft. It could've been so much better. It's U.S. Vaporware.

LMFAO!! I couldnt help but laugh at your post, in a good way of course.

I can see you being frustrated because I too would like to start playing this as well but we have to look at the bigger picture. If they were to release it half translated or missing things then you will have those people who will automatically start in about how the game sucks or NCSoft is screwing you over.

With money obviously being tight as apparent from the layoffs I dont blame them for wanting to do it right the first time because it will pay off better for them in the long run.

this news sucks ass, I was hoping to play this for a while before swtor comes out and because im not realy interested in any existing mmos to keep me entertained.

Another thread on these forums had a chart downloaded from NCSoft/Aion website and it showed the game being released in 4th QTR, 2009.  Looks like it was accurate.

Right now, there's very little on the near horizon scheduled for release so this will probably work out well, just so they don't push too far into 2010.

I would have liked to atleast try it but unfortuntely the time it is going to take this game to get to the NA/EU regions people will be interested in other MMOs.

Yup, well that bites.  The release date is even later than I predicted (3rd Qtr).

That pretty much does it for me.  I would still wait on it, but I'm willing to bet the "korean" parts that they remove are the one's I've been playing korean source mmos for in the first place...  I didn't want another Western style game.  Spending a year to take away the cultural differences that made the game unique rather kills the buzz..

Give it a rest Leonidus. They are releasing it in the fall. That hardly constitutes Vaporware.

Sometimes I think you are just being this way because you think it's amusing.

    How is Q4 release "/fail /fail /fail"?

I can't understand these types of reasoning...  I myself am waiting for Aion as well, and I'm not only checking information for NA/EU version, but Chinese version as well.  And guess what?  Even Chinese ver. are due in Q4...  I don't think this constitute as "fail".

    Be patient...

I wonder... if the game is release now in NA/EU at its present state, will people complain and say "FAIL" for the weird translation and things that makes no sense (if you just do direct translation instead of doing translation based on meanings and idea, and to re-write scripts so it makes more sense can only help players to feel immersed in the game).  If that's the case, then I would say they should take the time they need to make the game better so it benefit more people.

I'm saddened by this news yet glad to hear it at the same time. What makes me glad is that NCWest will have more time to polish the localization, and as many said it's not only translation, there are many factors involved. The only thing that keeps me baffled is, do they really need to rewrite things from scratch to match the western culture?

Anyways, hope they do some sort of Open Beta or Previews to at least keep our interest in place. Not that I would lose it anytime soon.

    spoken for truth.

So let's see, the earliest mention of the game on this site is 2006. That means 3 years of development time which nowadays is very good as some of these games are going into a 4th year (or more?).

They indicate that they are rewriting content, not just translating it. My guess is that they want/need this to be a financial success to the masses (or at least to try to make it more palatable) and feel that changing some of the story lines might make more sense.

People need to remember that they are not just selling this game to people who lurk on forums and have a more vested interest in the game, they also need to sell it to the vast majority who just play the games to play the games.

And since 4th quarter come before the holidays it might make more sense to capitalize on this time period for a marketing push.

People are acting like they are 6 and are being told that they can't have dessert until they finish their meal.

hmm, let's see, if they did indeed announce it in May 2006 then by the time 4th quarter rolls around that would be 3 years 4 months. Not really bad in my opinion.

I'm not going to cry /fail /fail /fail until I see the quality of the translation. I will judge their slowness based on how welldone it is.

To be fair, they have gone through some restructuring of the company recently. However I guess they haven't handeled it as effectively as they should.

There really isn't anything else coming out late 09 to hurt Aion so I don't think it is a tradegy. Lots of people will still try the game, and it will probably grow pretty well.

I'm concerned about updates/patches and things like that though. We better get an updated client at launch, and they can't dawdle like this with updates after the release...

  • TrissaTrissa Member Posts: 251

I can care less if they release Q4 2009 or Q3 2010. No problems to wait if at the end they release a game i could enjoy and i hope so for Aion.

I guessed the launch could have been in April-May, now that i know i was wrong and after reading about DFO and talked to my friends just changed my gaming plans for this year.

Aden here i come... back to L2 at least till next fall.

Agreed. I'm disappointed I have to wait longer, but if, after all, it means I get to play a better game, then I'm willing to wait for it. Hopefully this extended release schedule will allow them to eliminate any bugs the Korean players find over the next six months, so that we get a bug "free" launch.
