So far no swimming and no guild housing. The last thing I heard about housing was that they would add it but they were debating on were to put it ( in the cities located on each factions main lands or outside the cities). I think putting them in the city is a bad idea. They should just go outside the cities and float some islands above the ground, make it a fly zone and the guilds can make there halls on the floating islands. That way there will be less lagg in the city and the guild halls will be exposed to attacks from the other factions via rifts. Let the guilds be allowed to buy / hire NPC guards to protect there investment.
Just my 2 cents on the matter

there are some *moster* mmorpg ahead, aion will loose a good bunch to them
by waiting so long.

Waiting means little. If the product is good then the game will excel. You should know this by now.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
You just can't win in the eye's of the public. Release too soon with a half finished game and people get mad. Release at a later date and people start QQing. But all that get's forgotten when the game is released and is in good quality. They will never be forgiven if its released late and is in crappy shape. It's the same song and dance for every mmo.
The thing is we're not talking about a half finished game. We're talking about a game thats already been released in Korea for 3 months now and will be released a full year after the korean version has been released, all because apparently somebody at NCsoft actually thinks people care enough about the text in the game to fully recreate the text by a bunch of dedicated content translators/writers, completely ignoring that most people don't give a damn about things such as quest text.
It doesn't HAVE to be shakespear material, most people are just fine with a normally translated game, people don't play MMORPG's for the storyline, I'm willing to bet most people haven't even spend 5 minutes reading up on the lore posted on the official website if it wasn't for the fact there is little else there right now. If people wanted a good and immersive storyline experience, they'd play a singleplayer mmorpg. Now I'm sure somebody is going to quote my post and tell me how much they care about lore and storyline in their mmorpg, well i'm sorry to say you're in a minority.
Speak for yourself bro. You do NOT REPRESENT every mmo player.
I for one DO care about the lore of a game also its storyline. Many other people do. There is a difference in between these players and the POWER GAMER such as you. The regular mmo players are the loyal ones while the POWER GAMERS such as yourself will quickly blow thru stuff and get bored fast then move on.
Games are just outring boring and bland with no story to follow. Most of us want to know why we must kill x or y mob, or do this or that.
A game will just plain out suck ass if it just tell you
Quest
kill 20 monster x.
That be plain out stupid. This is why you do not represent every mmo player. many people like different things in a game and most do seek a good story or a game full of lore to explore. If your the person who quickly accepts a quest and passes the text to go kill the mobs, thats you and your type of play, trying to hit endgame asap to then hit pvp or just down out raids.
I did play wow for a while but what kept me in the game was not the pvp or the raiding. It was the lore in the game. every time i finished it all i quit the game. I finished every quest in the new expantion and im done with the game, raiding is not for me and after all these years playing wow i have done everything i wanted. bliz got good money out of me but they gave me some good lore to enjoy.
Reading the lore of the game on the website already has me hyped up for the game . I for one wouldnt accept some watered down pathetic translation of the game.
Heck if you DONT GIVE A DAMN about the stroy, lore bah text whatever, Wtf is holding you up form getting the koren version and playing. The skill icons will be the same basicly that is all you care about anyhow as you dont read nothing of the game. Really whats holding you back?
I only care that the game is comming out, not how long it will be till then. There are plenty of things i can do while i wait for this one.
Oh and like i said before . FFxi was released one year to the us one year after it popped out in japan. in fact when we got it, one expantion pack was already released. we got it bundled together as if it was one game and it was utterly polished at release. The lore of the game was well translated ect.
That is what ill be expecting of AION.
As I said, You're in a minority. Most players really, really don't care about the storyline. Also, I'm not a powergamer, just because I don't care about the storyline doesn't mean that i'm suddenly a power gamer. I care about the gameplay and social interaction, not the reason why some NPC needs 20 rats killed.
the "Go play the korean version" is just a flawed argument. Just because I dont care about quest text and lore doesn't mean i dont need to read certain quests such as tutorials, locations, etc etc. Also, everybody is korean, removing the social aspect of mmorpg's which is, you know, kind of a big deal in an mmorpg.
I am an Aion fan.... no qualms about either. I forum surf Aionsource for about an hour daily, look on youtube for newer Aion videos, bought the Aion OST, and hype it to all my friends and gaming buddies.
And I am annoyed. Annoyed by the projected release date getting pushed further back, annoyed by the fact we will NOT be getting a beta and most of all, annoyed by the lack of information being produced from NCsoft. They say they have to "Localize" the game. It would be REALLY nice to see an EXAMPLE of this "localization". They need a bigger team. Common.... how long has it been? And how long will it have been by Q4? 1-2 years in "Localization"? That's bullshit. I'm about ready to cave in and get myself the korean client through various means >.>
So yeah... hurry the fuck up NCsoft... if you're not gonna release Aion till Q4, at least throw us a bone or something. Hell, i'd LOVE to see an Aion english advertisement but noooo.... I'd LOVE to hear about these "Preview events" but noooo, and for that matter im not gonna get to play in them. I would LOVE to have a little Aione stein or T-shirt or SOMETHING, give me SOMETHING that I can get OUTSIDE of Korea(CHINA does not count).
It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay. -Quote Isoke(VN boards)

They need to have both, the question should be which one are we doing first? And if they really just want to focus on guild only candy then they might have spared us Lineage 3 and called this L3.
I don't want to play Lineage, I want to play a fantasy game is supposed to cater to both the PvP AND PvE (RP) crowd.
There would be zero lag in the city if the apartments are instanced, that's probably what they are trying to decide on, and this would be easier to do then having floating guild halls (or grounded ones even) that may be assaulted as rumored a while ago.
It's been less than 3 years. Besides the game is done and released. By the time the start of 4th quarter comes around that will be 3 years 4 months. Not a huge amount of time when you consider other games take about as long or longer.
They started development in 2005, I think. I'm hoping they will have swimming by the time it comes out or very soon after.... Just one of those little annoying things we'll be waiting for. Is that Aion novel still in the works or was that a myth?
*grumble**grumble*
Oh come on -- there is nothing funnier than watching someone train some monsters to the shore side cliff expecting the solace of the ocean only to splat on the bottom.
LOL well yeah, I love swimming in AoC though and EQ2 and Aion is supposed to have it too. I still can't believe they launched the game in Korea like that.
I don't see why people are so big on swimming. You have flying. It's swimming but much more expanded.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Although I probably sound like a broken record by now, I can tell you that there is nowhere to swim. . .There is a small lake type thing in the starting zone for Asmodians but it is the end of the world and plays more of a zone line than anything. Think of it as a mountain from other games that you cant get over. Rather than making it an unscaleable landmass you sink to the bottom faster than a mobster with new concrete shoes.

Well I hate to sound like a broken record but that sounds incredibly broken. I am not advocating ADDING swimming you have to realise people, it's already supposed to be there, planned to be there but for some reason instead of making it impossible for people to enter the deep end of lakes, you can and sink to the bottom.....
How is this a good thing or a good impression? I don't care if they decide not to have swimming, though I'd like to, but for crying out loud I hope there are not stupid enough to launch an awesome solid game with one hallf assed and half finished feature.... You know?
Most of the bots in Korea I heard were wiped out around 2 patches ago. As for the US, its NCsoft so expect the worst, but who knows they may be able to pull it together. If they dont manage to handle their servers well, I would expect private servers to pop up within 5-6 months or release.
I wanna know where the hell gamestop.com gets their release dates because I've pre-ordered multiple copies of Aion already because it had a date of May 1st! They still haven't changed it. What kind of monkey is controlling their corporate offices? Do they even visit the web sites of the games before "guessing" at a release date? Sorry, I'm just a little ticked. Fall? I was all set for May... even ordered a killer gaming rig for the occasion.
Also, I have a friend in Korea who may play Aion... anyone know if there is going to be an international server so that he and I can play together?
I wanna know where the hell gamestop.com gets their release dates because I've pre-ordered multiple copies of Aion already because it had a date of May 1st!
That's very silly, do not believe release dates of shops, ever.
There is a chance Aion will simply never come out in the West, you have to take that into account. Preordering is just foolish atm.

I think a lot can be lost in a poor translation. Looking at the OP's original link:
Why is localization taking so long?
The localization effort is enormous, with a vast amount of content. Aion is not simply being translated, a team of dedicated content writers are re-creating the written dialogue and content to provide AAA quality and to ensure that it is culturally relevant for our audience. We are going to do this launch "right" rather than fast.
I think I can safely say most of us using this forum here have played many Free to play Asian mmos with horrible translations, which often have sections that make no sense. This completely ruin the game experience, as would references outside of the Western culture.
I am really looking foward to this game, I don't think NCSoft will do the game justic if its released with terrible translation. Its a beautiful looking game, it deserves flowing beautiful dialogue.
And if you have been following the game for a long time you're going to believe that only partly and smell a bit of bullshit on the other part.
Something else is putting the breaks on this thing and maybe it is the closing down of the UK office however I'm hating how they are spinning it. Smells like they are taking notes from SOE.

I do agree with you Waterlily. There is a ginormous chance that NCSoft will not release the game after realizing that the delay has cost them any chance of a profit. You have to realize that some players have been waiting for the game as long as three or four years ago. These latest delays have turned many people away. A recent poll on AionSource showed that about 40% of people are not going to be waiting for Aion if it gets delayed until the fall.
there have not been any delays for the western release because they never announced a release date in the first place, q4 2009 is the first official announcement of the western release.
i can't remember one game in mmorpg history that failed because of a delayed release time (which the aion release still isn't, but people seem to feel that way) or a release close together with other maybe better known titles.
vanguard had a long delay, still many people actually started playing it even though half the beta community told everyone how bad it sucks, darkfall should have been released years ago and still there is a huge riot on release day, the fact that many features are missing and the game is probably gonna sink or vanish from the front within one year have nothing to do with the release date.
release dates and delays have pretty much no influence whatsoever, and practically all people that are like "omgz aion is delayed, they lied, oh noes, i am not gonna play that stupid game!" will be playing aion when it releases.
there have not been any delays for the western release because they never announced a release date in the first place, q4 2009 is the first official announcement of the western release.
Hey actually this new date of Q4 is not really a promise either, it's exactly how they worded it last time when they told us Q2 2009 and before that was Q4 2008.... None of those are 'official', all they say is we are expecting the release to be at so and so time. That's not saying that is when the product will be released.
It's the perfect way for them to keep delaying over and over and saying we can't delay a product we never gave a concrete release date to....
So whatever it will come out when it will come out.
I'm glad they're trying to localize perfectly. The more professional a game seems, the better. Terrible English is one reason I won't play a lot of asian mmorpg's, aside from them sucking in the gameplay department.
If a game looks, reads, and plays like a AAA title, then I'll play longer - simple as that. For the most part, even 2 out of 3 of those don't even cut it. Graphics aren't that major though, so they could stand to be slightly lax in that department, but obviously they're not.
Don't mean to revive a dead thread but It's getting pretty close to release time now. Almost Q4 but I still haven't heard of any specific month. Think they've hit some snags? I think at least by now they would have said October or September or something.
Also, I heard the Chinese released version has a very affordable pay-as-you-play system, where you can purchase like 60 Hours of gameplay for 5 bucks! That's awesome! Are they bringing THAT to the states too? I sincerely hope so.
I never feel like I get my 15 dollars worth on any of my subscriptions. I just don't have the time to play as often as I'd like. Buying hours would be perfect for me and anyone who's an MMO fan but doesn't have a lot of time on their hands.

That's very silly, do not believe release dates of shops, ever.
