Something to consider, NCsoft isn't Blizzard or any other western MMO developer. When they give a date, they actually mean it. And having played L2 on and off for years, "Q4" could mean October 1st, or maybe even mid-September.
First they said maybe Q4 2006, then it was Q1 2008, then Q2 2008, then Q4 2008, then Q2 2009, and now it's Q4 2009, and I've already heard people are expecting Q1-Q2 2010....
That wasn't a big deal in 2008 pre Korean release, but since that release we have been dangling on and pining for information and some sort of update and then get hit with a relocation of another office.
Before anyone accuses me of not seeing the big picture see my post history and correct yourselves. I understand what's going on and can see as to why, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't worry about it or wonder if they couldn't have gone about it in another way. Aion will release to the west, NCsoft has far too much to lose if it were not to be released. With the recent debacle that was TR, NCsoft will be more cautious but again they can not afford to not release in the States.

It's time for NCSoft to quit as they don't understand what makes a successful MMO. Aion will be reknown for being too shallow for the North American gamer.

No actually. I've not once complained about a game bug ever in my life. I just accept it as part of the game until its changed. Thats just me. I understand a lot of people would complain loudly of bugs/crashes etc. But the time delay has nothing to do with these things. They are not fixing bugs, they are replacing the NPC flowing gown and Hello Kitty back-packs with the American pop culture equivalent. Which is a complete waste of effort, and I'm sure they will get it wrong anyway.
So just release the game, which is and has been ready for release, proved by the 100% success of Korean release. Get a couple Korean/English speakers to swap out the quest text and release. It's that easy if they want to. But they seem to think they are going to wait out the reccesion. Which they will not. Release or die. And thats my proffesional opinion as well as my desire as a gamer.

Yea its so easy really, just change the quest, names on thousands of items, mob, cities, NPC"S, cut-scene's, voice acting in CS and all the NPC's to name a few....then you just need to go back and check everything that you changed in order to make sure its correct. Should only take a month I would guess. If this game was F2P it would be done by now.

Most of the good mmos from the east have taken their time to come over to the west. FFxi when it was released here it was a year already out in japan. we got a utterly polished unbugged ffxi at release. Till then we know a beta will show up for us sooner or later. Also we were never promised a released date. Only that Aion will be released in the us and eu
Also keep in mind that the JP players had a HUGE lock on the (end)game over english players. Infact on some servers, it wasn't until certain JP linkshells literally had everything for everyone before non-JP had realistic shots. This coming from someone who played since NA release up until the end of the last year.
Granted Aion will be different as we'll have our own services right off the bat. However there are a good amount of non-asia-located people playing Aion right now through VPNs and the like with intention to switch over come the time. These players are going to be in the very positions that JP were for FFXI. meh =/
"we all know each and every one of you that say this are going to go back to WoW untill aion is released and then switch over."
KingSmitt, too bad I don't play WoW and wouldn't touch it with a 50 yard pole after trying the beta.

The story goes that Aion is loaded to the hilt with Korean pop-culture that NA and Europe would have no idea what it means. They are supposed to be removing these and replacing it with something more suitable for the Western audiences. Also, if they are doing a full localization look forward to new animations for running and such since both races are highly influenced by anime and we all know how much Westerners love that . . .

IMO the Koreans are the masters of marketing and research,IMO they are waiting for a better time to release.
Well i quickly hit the google news and found the report by NCSOFT producer from the feb 19.
I would have to say i am not a fan of NCSOFT or AION,but it sounds to me like they are doing the intelligent thing. They claim they have a massive amount of content[skeptical lol]and are trying to make it all relevant to the NA fanbase. It also sounds like they made a complete KOREAN version first and are just now trying to rewrite all the work into english,i am a little iffy as to why they did not do it all at the same time.
I think the REAL fans of this game should be proud of NCSOFT for making an intelligent stance.I also read from another post, that they were going to discuss the state of the gaming player base,IMO it is at a real low,i am sure they gathered that as well and decided ,later is better.Personally i do not believe there is a very big player base to draw from for any game,so it wil be VERY hard to maintain the numbers NCSOFT needs, beyond the usual game hoppers and players trying something because they are bored.
Anyhoot the fans should be happy for this decision,if you are not,you are not a true fan of the game, because a true fan, would want nothing but the best game coming out on release.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The problem with a lot of MMO gamers these days is that they aren't patient. All they do is complain. When the company puts out their game faster, it will probably have more mistakes and translation errors. Either way, people like you will complain, and they would rather keep the patient customers than have no customers at all.
I think the REAL fans of this game should be proud of NCSOFT for making an intelligent stance.
Can you not understand how it would be hard to do that when they make some rather selfish and retarded decisions? Don't you think it's slightly worrying how easily they hire and fire people, how they refuse to communicate with their employees and decide on a dime what they are going to do with a project that's in trouble?
It's one thing when ArenaNet decides they won't release screenshots or info on GW2 for 2 years and another to learn they've fired people without any notice and with held information from their own people. Note I know full well it's NCsoft who's guilty of the latter not ArenaNet I'm trying to provide an example of what they don't do vs NCsoft their parent company.
To the person assuring me the game WILL come out, did I say or ever implied it wouldn't? No, they have no choice but to release it I was one of the first people to ever point that out. However it's how they will release it, there's more then a few issues I have with this company and game that perturbs me still that have nothing to do with how stable the game will be when it does launch here. And no I won't elaborate until those fears come to light because I know you'll think I'm on crack.
Being a fan doesn't mean being a blinded fool. In fact the most die hard fans are the ones constantly questioning and pushing for their companies to the right thing. We want the game to succeed and we want to play the damn thing, that's not to say everyone dances around with rose colored glasses and believe anything they throw at us. Having an opinion and stating having worries about something also does not equal instant flaming or trolling, or just being unhappy because there's nothing better to do.
You'll remember I usually tell people to be patient and the game will be out soon, well after nearly 3 years and seeing ex employees and present employees being pissed at their boss, I'm fresh out of advice.
I'll probably play the game when it comes out and will continue reading this one forum, but that's all the energy I'm giving to it, if another game comes along and grips me as hard as the potential of this game has, then so be it.
NCsoft has a lot of ground to cover to re-inspire many fans. And no I'm not pulling that out of my ass.
Releasing in Fall will put them head to head with other MMo's annual expansions (like LOTRO which I play). I am not likely to jump over to another MMO at this time. The best time to release would be late spring.
Blade and soul seems to be in devalopment at the same time but at this rate I dounbt Blade and soul will release in 2010 anyhow. AION was not even mentioned in the line up of which games are up for release anytime soon, L2 was even given a time frame. I have never even heard of Blade and soul until now and it seems like it has great potential.
I'm still frustrated about this whole delay thing, it's been years and still we have NOTHING. lame. I'm losing interest at this point.
Edit: Be sure to watch the Blade and soul video, it's quite nice.

And this is, IMO, a huge mistake. Right now the localization staff is probably reading emails from NC Korea telling them "Make it more like WoW so the western Audience will like it more." And I think it's safe to say that we, the western audience, don't want that. We want Aion. As it is. Not some bastardized version built to suit the lowest common denominator.
If you're sitiing back thinking "They are delaying it to make it better for us", think again. They are going to Tabular-Rasa it. Send it by the Auto Assault guys for "important changes". Prepare for fail. Brace for impact.

Yeah no kidding, I just hope they are not thinking western audience = make idiot proof. That would be as bad as people here judging the game based on it's graphics.
Originally what I understood is that they would change some of the quests from Asian mythologies quest lore to more western mythologies so people are more familiar with the stories. But I figured they had done this already... :S
Check this out, according to this website NCSOFT is not puting much detail into when an actuall release for AION will be : http://feature.mmosite.com/content/2008-08-27/20080827014252416,1.shtml Blade and soul seems to be in devalopment at the same time but at this rate I dounbt Blade and soul will release in 2010 anyhow. It's been less than 3 years. Besides the game is done and released. By the time the start of 4th quarter comes around that will be 3 years 4 months.
Not a huge amount of time when you consider other games take about as long or longer.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Speaking from experience, it will be quite difficult to make it even more like WoW without copying everything to the "T". Aion is already easy to level in, quests are easy to find, the colors are pretty so to make it any more like WoW would require them to start all over.
I know everyone is frustrated but it really won't change anything. With the recent layoffs and other blunders of NCsoft West we may not see anything until 2010. We will just have to wait and see, until then I will switch modes and follow TOR a little more closely and if TOR turns out decent, then NCsoft will lose me as a customer for Aion. We will just have to wait and see . . .

Why are they changing the lore? That will change the whole story line! Then we might as well play WoW or something. I thought it would be mainly translating everything and changing the UI to a more Western Style.

They are not re-writing the lore, that would be a completely useless process. As I said before, Aion is littered with Korean pop-culture that the west would not understand . . . this is what is being re-written.
paying 15 us a month for a perfect world copy ya right THANKS NC BUT NO TY.ONLY ONE WAY THIS GAME WILL BE SUCCES AND ITS WITH A PVEVP SYSTEM YOU QUEST BUT INSTEAD OF AI THING YOU HAVE TO DO IT PVP LIKE KILL X AMOUNT OF ELF IF YOUR ON QUEST THE PVP BEING ATTACKED GETS HIS ATTACK DEBUFFEDLIKE HE WOULD BE A PVE NO NPC BUT THE QUEST GIVER AND THE GUY BEING ATTACKED HAVE QUEST LIKE YOU GOT TO BE KILLED BY X AMOUNT OF THIS AND THAT ,ITS QUESTING BUT WITH REAL PEOPLE
SOME WILL ASK WHY THE DEBUFF FOR THE ONE BEING ATTACKED, SO THE QUEST IS DOABLE BUT IF YOU SEE A PRO BEING KILLED HE LL JUST LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU GOT 50% MORE ATTACK POWER OR SUCH IT WILL BE NICE FOR EVERYONE AND SINCE THE ONE BEING KILLED HAVE SOME QUEST THAT INVOLVE BEING KILLED THEY LL LESS SAY DAM IM BEING GANKED
ONE MORE THING THESE THING I OUTLINED WOULD ONLY BE LIKE THAT WHILE YOU QUEST WHEN YOUR NOT TRIGERED ONQUEST EVERYBODY RETURN TO THEIR RESPECTIVE MAX FOR THEIR LVL
I THINK IT WOULD BE MORE FUN AND INVOLVING
CAN YOU IMAGINE YOU GOT TO FARM 20 FEATHER FROM AN ELF THAT WAY GESSWIZZ EVERYTHING PVP
THE GAME COULD BE WAY SHORTER I THINK SINCE THE QUEST WOULD BECOME WAY HARDER EVEN WITH A 100% DEBUFF TO THE ONE BEING ATTCKED FOR QUEST PURPOSE BUT IT WOULD BE WAY MORE FUN THEN THE STATIC DUMB AI WE GRIND WE HAVE TO SUFFER WOW SYSTEM WAS GOOD i did say was
now we need a system like i just said you can improove the idea etc but the basic is
while questing to lvl up your toon the quest will all be done in pvp mode

Epic fail.
Releasing in Fall will put them head to head with other MMo's annual expansions (like LOTRO which I play). I am not likely to jump over to another MMO at this time. The best time to release would be late spring.
Check this out, according to this website NCSOFT is not puting much detail into when an actuall release for AION will be :

Blade and soul seems to be in devalopment at the same time but at this rate I dounbt Blade and soul will release in 2010 anyhow. AION was not even mentioned in the line up of which games are up for release anytime soon, L2 was even given a time frame. I have never even heard of Blade and soul until now and it seems like it has great potential.
I'm still frustrated about this whole delay thing, it's been years and still we have NOTHING. lame. I'm losing interest at this point.
Edit: Be sure to watch the Blade and soul video, it's quite nice.
The story goes that Aion is loaded to the hilt with Korean pop-culture that NA and Europe would have no idea what it means. They are supposed to be removing these and replacing it with something more suitable for the Western audiences. Also, if they are doing a full localization look forward to new animations for running and such since both races are highly influenced by anime and we all know how much Westerners love that . . .
"If you can't out wit them, report them till they're banned!"- PopinJ'
Yeah no kidding, I just hope they are not thinking western audience = make idiot proof. That would be as bad as people here judging the game based on it's graphics.
Originally what I understood is that they would change some of the quests from Asian mythologies quest lore to more western mythologies so people are more familiar with the stories. But I figured they had done this already... :S

It's been less than 3 years. Besides the game is done and released. By the time the start of 4th quarter comes around that will be 3 years 4 months.
Not a huge amount of time when you consider other games take about as long or longer.

2) Why is localization taking so long?
The localization effort is enormous, with a vast amount of content. Aion is not simply being translated, a team of dedicated content writers are re-creating the written dialogue and content to provide AAA quality and to ensure that it is culturally relevant for our audience. We are going to do this launch “right” rather than fast.

March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
paying 15 us a month for a perfect world copy ya right THANKS NC BUT NO TY.ONLY ONE WAY THIS GAME WILL BE SUCCES AND ITS WITH A PVEVP SYSTEM YOU QUEST BUT INSTEAD OF AI THING YOU HAVE TO DO IT PVP LIKE KILL X AMOUNT OF ELF IF YOUR ON QUEST THE PVP BEING ATTACKED GETS HIS ATTACK DEBUFFEDLIKE HE WOULD BE A PVE NO NPC BUT THE QUEST GIVER AND THE GUY BEING ATTACKED HAVE QUEST LIKE YOU GOT TO BE KILLED BY X AMOUNT OF THIS AND THAT ,ITS QUESTING BUT WITH REAL PEOPLE
SOME WILL ASK WHY THE DEBUFF FOR THE ONE BEING ATTACKED, SO THE QUEST IS DOABLE BUT IF YOU SEE A PRO BEING KILLED HE LL JUST LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU GOT 50% MORE ATTACK POWER OR SUCH IT WILL BE NICE FOR EVERYONE AND SINCE THE ONE BEING KILLED HAVE SOME QUEST THAT INVOLVE BEING KILLED THEY LL LESS SAY DAM IM BEING GANKED
