I think it's time to just bite the bullet and do whatever it takes to get on the Korean server now.  I don't need to read quest text to swat mobs and PvP in the abyss.  Just bring the damn game on already.

Let's go people! This random kid that no one's heard of wants Aion to come out now! Lol, yeah next to Blizzard, I would say that NCSoft is the next best and most successful company for mmos so if they are waiting to release it here until fall, then they hav a good reason for it. Patience...

I would prefer it too have a more western tone to it. If you are a fan of folk lore, lotr, or warcraft.. then having the western look makes games a lot better. I hope they give more options in the different hair styles for example and perhaps make the armor look more western. Just a few examples but theres a lot more they can do.

Plenty of good games should come out before then to hold you over.

The above bold statement is so wrong I won't even go there. besides:

"From the drawing board, Aion was designed to appeal to a global audience--the development team looked closely at games from all across the world and did extensive research on what worked and what didn't. What they decided to do was combine the epic beauty and intricate details of Asian games with the deep storytelling, quest-based systems familiar to Western MMOs."

    (link to interview )

Aww.... there not changing the graphics? Damn, sorry dude.... I was rooting for you! **NOT**

Well, that question is talking about the gameplay will not be culturally changed. Which I am pretty sure I didn't post anything about.  if you want to prove me wrong, maybe you should do it the RIGHT way instead of the fast way.

ANYWAYS, If they are seriously delaying this game because of text and nothing more, than GFG. It doesn't take any time at all to rewrite the words around in quests logs and what not. I will actually agree with the OP now, because that is a waste of time. They don't need to take the time to just do that, because when going about the translated version of the game, I felt that the text was good enough.

"epic beauty and intricate details" are dealing with GAMEPLAY? Really? I did not know. You: 1, Me: 0. Man, I guess I should be the one to QFT.

You didn't read the article did you? Text isn't all they're editing.

Back to the topic, Q4 seems reasonable to me. I know nothing about Korean folklore and can understand making the game "make more sense" to western audiences takes some time. I have been fortunate enough to play for a bit on the test server. It is definitely worth the wait.

I talked to many of my friends who are WoW crazy.... and they all think this'll be the WoW killer and all have the game already pre-ordered. I tend to agree that it would be a WoW killer, if someone could actually get the WOW players to stop playing long enough to give Aion a try.

With this game, the bar has been raised... big time.

Let's take a look at the interview

GS: To what extent is the game being rebalanced and retuned for a North American launch?  How is the game being returned? Are fights shorter? Gentler level curve? Lower level requirements?

LB: The core gameplay itself has not been rebalanced for the Western audience, mainly because there was no need to. From the drawing board, Aion was designed to appeal to a global audience--

GameSpot: Give us an update on the game's development and localization. What's being worked on at present?

LB: Work on the game is progressing very well. Since Aion's gameplay mechanics were originally developed for a global appeal, we've been able to spend a lot of time focusing on significant localization. And by localization, I don't mean just the text--stories, culture, fables, and even inside cultural jokes all need to be considered and rewritten for the Western audience

Now that last line is funny because it says that not just the text is being changed but ...... culture, fables, and even inside jokes... WHICH STILL FALLS IN THE GROUP OF --TEXT--, which is a big waste of time and should not take long at all because there is no programming/debugging/testing involved with it, heh that's just writing a book basically if all you do is replace the words in an already existing program.

UNLESS of COURSE, TEXT ISN'T the only thing they are changing and are ACTUALLY changing graphics to a more western feel. Then of course, that would make more sense that it is being delayed and I would have nothing against that.

I don't get what you people are trying to do and wants the graphics changed to a western feel. It wouldn't be Aion if it didn't look like what it does now. The whole point of it since the beginning was the asian look + "western" gameplay. Stop trying to cry and whine and change it into something it's not.

I do hope they change some of the emotes... some of them look rather silly.

Yes. Exactly. No need to fix what isn't broken.

I have a friend who happens to be a retail gaming store manager who is currently playing on what he described as "alpha servers". But this sounds like strictly invite only stuff. So unless you've gotten an NcSoft email inviting you to play before release - currently there is no "authorized" way to play.

Some americans are playing on the chinese servers though. Google some serches - I'm sure you'll find something.

This entire thread reaks of failure already. I can already smell a tabula rasa coming with this game . Then again its NCSoft what do you expect.

Ah yes, but this was developed in the much more capable hands of NcSoft Korea. The Tabula Rasa team had nothing to do with any part of Aion.

And as far as "smelling a tabula rasa coming", I'd have to disagree. However, I do smell "a lot of simultaneous World of Warcraft account cancellations".

    *sniff sniff*

    Smells pretty damn sweet too!

Over 1 million paying customers in China alone and you smell a tabula rasa coming? I think you need to get your nose checked.

    TR sucked bad.

Yes NCsoft has alot of games that were awful... not all of them were, just most.

Aion has redeemed NCsoft is my eyes...

Tho I will still want to play one of their games before I buy it...

Their track record isn't very good.

Play Aion 1st before you bash it, NCsoft didn't screw this one up. Aion is no "TR".

    <Mod Edit>

Aion isn't going to be a success in the US, but what I can say is that Aion is going to be a success in general which is going to mean a lot of updates, a lot of bug fixes, a very polished game, and also the best part about this whole thing: MORE EXPANSIONS!!!!

I think this game has over 1.5 million active SUBS. That's way better than AoC and Warhammer combined.

I think it will have about active 150k subs in the US after 6 months.... if not more, then add another 150K from the EU..

That would successful in my eyes.

300K in English countries and 3 million in Asian countries. Definitely successful indeed. Count Japan and Taiwan, so I estimate 3 million and 300K....

...I wouldn't call the English successful, but moreover STABLE

Those estimates seem pretty reasonable, and would make the game a worldwide success.

Many english speaking players are already playing on the chinese servers, and paying. So i really think that NCSoft should hurry up or at least give us more updates on what exactly they're doing.

  • Syno23Syno23 Member UncommonPosts: 1,360

I agree, but I don't think it is coming anytime soon. Dang, what a draag.

  • DevilXaphanDevilXaphan Member UncommonPosts: 1,144

5 months is soon enough for them to release.

    Calm yourself, please.

Localization is much more than cut-scenes.  They have to translate all quest dialogue, signs, names, objects, voiceovers, etc.  It takes time.  If they released it before it was polished, 100 people would be here talking about the latest Asian MMO that couldn't take the time to properly release the game in this market.
