Wow. I just got done with the most amazing experience I have ever had in an MMO (and I've played a lot of 'em).
Giant battle troops were spotted coming to attack my clan's (The Homeless) city (after raids throughout the day), and we called in Allies for defense.
Our allies came to assist, as 3 clans came bearing down on us.
What resulted was the most epic battle in the history of Darkfall thus far (long history, I know). Possible 150 total players participated
Here are some pics:

We chased them up to top floor, and finally got rid of them (was truly a group effort). Now my guy is decked out in leet armor, and I've had my best experience. Hell yeah.
All of you who are not in game yet, it's worth the wait!

I was there for the first wave of La Rosa. There were about 40 people at that point. It only got so much bigger, sad as hell to have missed the brunt of it.
Anyway, 40 gigs of video FRAPS'd and will eventually be posted, I'm sure many will enjoy.
I have a hard time believing the number.
I mean, I understand that the battle was probably spread out over an entire city location, but still, I saw no more than like 40 people in any screen.
I read on the DF forums thread of this that someone fraps'd it-- now that is what I wanna see.

-----Zero Punctuation Eve Online Review-----
Like I said, I missed the large battle but the pre-attack had at least 15-20 La Rosa and about 10-15 Homless and both sides numbers were far higher during the main battle and that is without accounting for allies and Aesirs showing up. I'd say 100 is a conservative number for the peak.
Glad someone posted some pics, hopefully a video soon. If it's over 100 then it definitely was bigger then my experience, and maybe now people will shut up and actually believe that mine (and now this one) happened.
Hopefully the videos will show how smooth the game ran for me with so many people fighting on screen as well.
You all have missed truly epic fights in mmos. I've seen over a thousand people in one map in RF Online fighting and in Space Cowboy/Flysis/Air Rivals/etc I've seen a good 300 people onscreen at once.
Let me try to explain it to you. It's not about the number of people involved in battles. Sure, I've been in MUCH "larger" scale battles before, but it's about the gameplay and combat style of the game that makes it far superior in "fun-ness" and "epicness", in my mind and numerous others in the Darkfall server, to any other MMO out on the market now and in the past.
RF Online...
Those of you who haven't played can't understand. The video will eventually be available anyway to make your own judgements.
This game evolves over time, these aren't even sieges these are pre-siege battles. Once cities are built and siege weapons used 200 vs 200 is very much a reality in DF.

Uh-huh. So Dark Merlin went out of his way tom point out the number in the thread title because it's irrelevant.
No, he pointed it out because people have only heard of 15-15'ish sized battles so far from beta until about now. Why wouldn't he post the number?
I've had some "epic" battles of 7v7 in Rainbow Six that surpass some of my experiences in 250v250 realm battles in DAoC. So yes, numbers don't mean jack shit.

seriously... you can maybe claim that once people actually unlock spells and abilities. but heal self, mana missile and just poking the enemy with your pointy stick (no other power evident other than basic ones?)... that looks like a bunch of noob-characters running around hitting each other and nothing is epic about noobs whacking each other.
kinda like goons and their rifter fleets when they'd first started eve. really wasn't anything to see, no matter how many hundreds they fielded -- it was still "meh".
you can try to explain the darkfall mentality; but a lot of us aren't new to the genre, not by a long shot... so until you start showing MASSIVE numbers, we're not going to be of the darkfall mentality and go "ooo you had 40 people -- EPIC".
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Its because most of these people have never seen a MASSIVE battle before. They think a large number of simple character casting and all hitting the same is epic somehow. Most of them have never even seen the inside of a real epic large scale battle where a simple missed cycle by one important ship means life or death to the whole fleet.

The rationalizations never end do they? There's nothing epic about a 7v7. That's not what the word means.
epic: adj -
1: Surpassing the usual or ordinary, particularly in scope or size: “A vast musical panorama . . . it requires an epic musical understanding to do it justice” (Tim Page).
2: Heroic and impressive in quality: “Here in the courtroom . . . there was more of that epic atmosphere, the extra amperage of a special moment” (Scott Turow).

Come on now Zymu. Let him have his moment. He's happy, the OP's happy.
Edit: Oh yeah and what's with the black spots on mini-map?
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.

Yeah, played EvE, enjoyed a lot of "epic" battles with my corporation as well. But sorry, the sense of "fun" I get when in engaging in larger scaled battles in Darkfall still surpasses any fun I've had in any other MMO, period, making my experience epic in my mind.
Don't like my opinion? Fine. Think that I'm alone with my opinion? Hardly.

Yep, fail again.
um, seriously, which side of the argument are you on?
to put it back on topic, using those definitions.
1 in the mmo world - no, 100-200 isn't very epic for pvp, rvr, etc
2 a bunch of new-characters, with very few skills, how are you going to have heroic and impreessive in QUALITY? oooooooooooo look at the way he casts that basic mana missile spell... that's not epic. oooooo look at the way he uses the basic pole arm thrust attack... again, not epic.
doing some kind of flip off a mount, with the mount immediately attacking/knocking back the target, followed by some sort of nasty lightning that hits your target and then jumps to three others, followed up immediately by an arrow headshot WHILE the mount bites your opponent in half... i'd have to say that's pretty epic.

I for one am glad that you and the others are enjoying yourself Kasmos. I'm glad that you are having the time of your life. I'm happy for you.
That being said... not everyone is going to find the same sense of "awe" that you and dark-merlin did at what we've been told and seen.
Some of us just don't see it as the same amazing game that you and some others do. That's o.k. though... really it is.
It shouldn't really be that big of a deal to you... afterall you can play the game of your dreams. What does it matter what we think? So it's all good... right?
So epic I could just stand around and screenshot it.
I'm not counting 150 heads in any of the screenshots, though.
Please, Darkfall fans, have something more than this. I truly do want to like and try this game. But then posts like this get made and I'm left thinking, "eh."

Would someone please answer this guy's question? I would like to know as well.
Wow, that does sound pretty damn epic. The OP's experience is still epic, I think. 150 people is pretty epic. We're not debating whether or not it's as epic as your larger scale battles, just saying it's still quite epic. I'd say 150 people fighting eachother for control of a city with active aiming/dodging/blocking and talented archers and mages playing their respective roles is pretty epic. I know most of them were noobs with only mana missile, but that doesn't mean it can't still be damn fun and, in some people's opinions, epic. I just realized that not one sentence in this post failed to use the word "epic." Not even this one. ... Shit.
LOL he probably doesent want everyone to know where his guilds city is located
carebear noobs
Would someone please answer this guy's question? I would like to know as well.
Depends on which side you stand.
One answer will be: To cover up the total number of players that were on the map.
Another answer will be: To cover up the names of the players, as they might not want it known they are playing DarkFall, or engaging in PvP, or part of Clan X... or something like that.
One side will riducule even asking the quesiton. The other will assume there is obviously something that is trying to be hidden.
It does seem like it was probably unnecessary. But, on the other hand, it would have been a blob of names that counting them would have been impossible anyway (which is why blotting them out with black in the first place seems unnecessary).
No, he pointed it out because people have only heard of 15-15'ish sized battles so far from beta until about now. Why wouldn't he post the number?

You can't compare a non-MMO with a MMORPG using the numbers argument, because the non-MMO games aren't designed for battles with hundreds of players at the same time, each got it's appeal I would say.
I agree numbers aren't everything but I would like to see the massive battles, it's one of the game's advertised features (and a lot of people enjoy the concept) so there will be much anticipation for the huge battles promised.
Thanks for the pics OP. It looks like fun. I'll be sure to check out the fraps. Shame a bunch of idiots had to derail the thread because it didn't meet their personal definition of 'epic', but what can you do. You'd think it would be futile for them to argue against a dictionary but by god they gave it their best shot.
Maybe next they should argue about how 150 players weren't actually 'colliding' with eachother, but IN TRUTH only one or two at a time? You noobs dont know what colliding really is, why there was this one time in band camp etc etc.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
Guys, stop posting here.
just keep your posts to the darkfall forums.
nothign you say or show will ever convince any of the idiots that live here that this game is any good. stop beating a dead horse and just forget about this site its shit.
BTW: That battle looked amazing I hope to get in on some of that soon.
You mean the Coordinates given in the chat that WEREN'T blotted out?
0'27"W 17'27"S
Those coordinates?
(Oh and seeing as they already got attacked by a large opposing force... pretty sure the Coordinates weren't much of a secret).
