Let me try to explain it to you. It's not about the number of people involved in battles. Sure, I've been in MUCH "larger" scale battles before, but it's about the gameplay and combat style of the game that makes it far superior in "fun-ness" and "epicness", in my mind and numerous others in the Darkfall server, to any other MMO out on the market now and in the past.

    So wait...

The entire point of this thread - the very subject line - is about the number of players there were and how epic it was.

You had nothing to say to that.

Yet, as soon as someone states that they've seen higher in other MMOs... suddenly "it's not about the numbers".

There was the same waffling with graphics... when it was a positive thread "DF had the best graphics ever". As soon as someone pointed out a flaw, "Graphics don't matter... go back to WoW"

Would you people please stop waffling? Pick a point-of-view and stick with it. Seriously, I'm starting to become a bit embarrassed for some of you with the way you completely change your perspective on the drop of a dime.

Man, who the hell cares whether or not Darkfall will ever achieve 600+ man battles.  All I care is that it can support the city sieges that take place in the future, be it 50 people participating or 500-- All I care is that it runs smoothly and provides entertainment for it's community.  Isn't that all that matters?

Trying to quantify the term epic is just silly... to the OP and others insinuating that Darkfall has the most EPIC battles-- just stop.  To everyone else deriding Darkfalls battles because they havn't reached the massive benchmarks set by previous mmos in it's first 2 weeks-- just stop.

Leave your ulterior motives checked at the door, please.

And I have seen literally hundereds of peeps in old emain in DAOC during relic sieges, or hell at the mile gates, early DAOC players know what im talking about. And this was on dial up...honestly :} DF is interesting, and im happy it has struck a cord with quite a few people. It is unique in what it presents, but the large fights are not unique. Been there, done that.

BTW can you scale keep walls and gank inside the keep as a sneak? Nope...DAOC offered alot of unique dynamics as well when it was released. Shame on Mythic for flushing the game down the toilet in pursuit of the almighty dollar via expacs.

At any rate I hope the hacks, exploits, and other issues that have plagued DF get sorted out, otherwise it will never have a large following. And you might say, wow, thats good, this IS my cave...but...like Vanguard it may end up bieng one guild or alliance that owns a entire server. IS that good?

At any rate only time will tell the true story of the saga of Darkfall. Lets hope for those of you with so much emo invested it is worth it.

Both fanbois and Trolls need to take one major chill pill. Hardcore players are not dicks... Well not all of them... Epic does not mean size at all, epic means something amazing. I could say that I had an epic 6v6 cal match or there was an epic keep battle or it was an epic raid against a pve boss. It does not matter epic is thrown around sooo much that the word simply means whatever the user wants it to mean.

But nice battle looked like it would of been fun but I have to say the graphics are weird. feels like I went back in time.... But I am sure you had to lower your setting so your computer could handle that kind of battle. So I am fine that the graphics look bad. I really want to see the video of this also.. Please link it when it is up. THANKS!

And...you wasted my time posting. Shuffle off now...Nurse Jenny, ward 13.

Which leaves some to believe they have a agenda, speaking of which, and I very much agree with your point of view! Otherwise why the fuck...would they be spending so much time here trying to convince people thier gut instinct was wrong? Or worse yet try to use MMORPG forum as a advertising extension for the game? I have never been on a forum before with such a overt effort to promote the game, and typically is a deluge of a number of new accounts, then a few of the old ones, then rinse and repeat. LOL honestly ;] they got no...nada cred with me anymore.

But :} im a happy camper you all are lovin DF hard.

Wow. I just got done with the most amazing experience I have ever had in an MMO (and I've played a lot of 'em).
Giant battle troops were spotted coming to attack my clan's (The Homeless) city (after raids throughout the day), and we called in Allies for defense.
Our allies came to assist, as 3 clans came bearing down on us.
What resulted was the most epic battle in the history of Darkfall thus far (long history, I know). Possible 150 total players participated
    Here are some pics:
    Attackers arrive:

    And rush:

    Allies arrive:

    Fighting outside:

    Fighting inside

We chased them up to top floor, and finally got rid of them (was truly a group effort). Now my guy is decked out in leet armor, and I've had my best experience. Hell yeah.
All of you who are not in game yet, it's worth the wait!

You wont convince us until you make a vid showing 150 people going at it with no lag.Everyday someone comes here spouting on about mass epic battle, yet they never provide a VID to prove it?

Must have been hell of a fight, nice going there :). Remember the defender is always in leverage though, since you can spawn at your camp. I 'd say it needs 3x attackers to efficently prevail in such a situation.

Seems that there where some out of topic answers here which i just blocked away. Next time you want to start a theoretical  discussion of "what is epic?"   "are we all going to die?" , please use the pub.

Looks pretty awesome. Were there any lag issues?

Same was for KAL too , any alliance had 8 guilds wich they each had a maximum of 66 players, and yo had around like 40 - 50% activity at wars wich gave only to defenders 200+ people , and there have been around at least 2 - 3 other alliances wich matched the size of defenders, and many other small or lowbies alliances wich camed only for the fun of it.

If this is the biggest battle of your MMO life than I feel for you, because you missed the boat a long time ago. You want massive battles you should have played Lineage II back in the day. Sometimes over 1000 in castle raids alone.

Well their agenda is pretty self-evident, and has been for a long time now:

"Defend anything and everything to do with Darkfall, no matter what"

And that's pretty much what they do ("they" being the rabid fans who will pounce on a single syllable of criticism or doubt about the game).

The glaring contradictions, hypocrisy, waffling and grossly over-used canned responses ("go back to WoW!")  are all just a means to an end. I realize that.

I just wonder if the people doing it realize just how *obvious* it is to others reading it without Tasos-colored glasses on; or if they even care.

150 people? My god that's got to be nearly everybody that managed to get their pre-orders to go through!

lol... just yanking ya. I hate the looks of this game, and I'm not fond of much else about it, but as long as you guys are having fun who the fuck cares?

Seriously. I think it's time we backed off of giving this game so much crap. This isn't a fanboi thread talking about how Darkfall is the greatest game ever, it's just a thread showing a bunch of people having fun playing the game, maybe you don't feel it is epic, but you can't argue the fact that some people are really having fun playing the game.

  • egotripegotrip Member Posts: 875

Well that's the first piece of evidence i saw that i could believe in a long time (even though i didn't see 150 people but at least it was more than 10 this time)

    Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

  • mutombo55mutombo55 Member Posts: 151

Sorry OP, according to the Oxford Internetzz Dictionary, the definition of "Epic" in the context of medieval battles is, and I quote, "a battle consisting of atleast 151 players in low quality graphics, including atleast 1 dwarf with beard choice A". So that battle was just short of epic, sorry  :D

Seriously though, as much as I've mocked DF, if this all ran smoothly, the player numbers were true and it was actually fun, well then hey congrats. I still think DF has a loooong way to go, but this should help improve the 1 month after reviews.

Who was the guy that laid down the train tracks, and was he drunk ?  And are there trains/carts in-game or is it just for show.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Ok  150 people are fighting why?Why are they fighting?PvP needs a reason otherwise it is just Socom,Halo or Battlefield with out the leader boards. Two guilds and their friends fighting for no reason is not a epic fight. As much as i don't like eve has some epic fights.Fighting sometimes has a greater purpose.

Fighting to control area filled with resources with knowledge if you lose this area ,you will be getting butt hand to you for the next couple of months is epic.Pushing back an enemy guild point by point and finally at last point you know this is the deciding battle for the area, that is epic.Watching huge guild of ganking a-holes form then claim that have taken over the virtual world, then you and your smaller guild proceed to ravage them in fight after fight is epic.A group of guilds spend months putting gather resources to build an epic castle in the game only to have at the day of completion have a another guild beat them and take over their castle that is epic.

Just how people want  risk /reward in small scale pvp.Large scale pvp without the same type of risk/reward is just as boring

think he dos not want to post the coordinates for his city? that would be my reason to not show the minimap

  • dembardembar Member Posts: 118

if in a city you have those tracks means you can build a mine on that city.

not all city have mines same as harbors and other thinks. this way they make it interesting to take over a city of a nother clan.

Uh-huh. So Dark Merlin went out of  his way tom point out the number in the thread title because it's irrelevant.

No, he pointed it out because people have only heard of 15-15'ish sized battles so far from beta until about now. Why wouldn't he post the number?

I've had some "epic" battles of 7v7 in Rainbow Six that surpass some of my experiences in 250v250 realm battles in DAoC. So yes, numbers don't mean jack shit.

The rationalizations never end do they?  There's nothing epic about a 7v7.  That's not what the word means.

    epic: adj -

1: Surpassing the usual or ordinary, particularly in scope or size: “A vast musical panorama . . . it requires an epic musical understanding to do it justice” (Tim Page).

2: Heroic and impressive in quality: “Here in the courtroom . . . there was more of that epic atmosphere, the extra amperage of a special moment” (Scott Turow).

    http://www.answers.com/topic/epic

    Yep, fail again.

It doesn't surpass the usual or ordiinary. I've been to mine fights in SB with more people, and more guilds, that lasted longer. It's not heroic or of impressive quality. It's a bunch of people running around randomly wacking each other. It''s a skirmish nothing more.  You want to watch that patting yourself on the back mate, you could dislocate your shoulder.  Maybe some day Darkfall will have epic battles. It's not there yet.

Total ownage... I was just going to say that anyone who has ever played SB shits on this level of "epicness"...

This is like 150 level 30's in shadowbane fighting in front of Kings Cross... yeah, not very heroic or impressive in quality, its not even impressive in quantity...

You people have no skills, no powers, and this thread does not enhance your epeen, just make you look like PvP noobs who get a chubby any time you fight something thats not a mob.
