he probably covered the minimap cuz it would have revealed the location of their city and they would rather not draw extra attention from a public forum to their clan city, and then forgot to blot out the coords in chat.

I've had some "epic" battles of 7v7 in Rainbow Six that surpass some of my experiences in 250v250 realm battles in DAoC. So yes, numbers don't mean jack shit.

You can't compare a non-MMO with a MMORPG using the numbers argument, because the non-MMO games aren't designed for battles with hundreds of players at the same time, each got it's appeal I would say.

I agree numbers aren't everything but I would like to see the massive battles, it's one of the game's advertised features (and a lot of people enjoy the concept) so there will be much anticipation for the huge battles promised.

Wrong, I've played in private Battlefield (an online FPS) on private servers with over 200 people easy.

    So again, wrong.

But you got to admit that seems pretty silly since they already got attacked by a supposedly "large" enemy force.  So... unless everyone of those enemy attackers suddenly forgot the coordinates... what difference would it make to those outside the game?

Those inside the game already obviously KNOW the coordinates... as they attacked it.

Just trying to follow the logic here.

Let me try to explain it to you. It's not about the number of people involved in battles. Sure, I've been in MUCH "larger" scale battles before, but it's about the gameplay and combat style of the game that makes it far superior in "fun-ness" and "epicness", in my mind and numerous others in the Darkfall server, to any other MMO out on the market now and in the past.

seriously... you can maybe claim that once people actually unlock spells and abilities.  but heal self, mana missile and just poking the enemy with your pointy stick (no other power evident other than basic ones?)... that looks like a bunch of noob-characters running around hitting each other and nothing is epic about noobs whacking each other.

kinda like goons and their rifter fleets when they'd first started eve.  really wasn't anything to see, no matter how many hundreds they fielded -- it was still "meh".

you can try to explain the darkfall mentality; but a lot of us aren't new to the genre, not by a long shot... so  until you start showing MASSIVE numbers, we're not going to be of the darkfall mentality and go "ooo you had 40 people -- EPIC".

Its because most of these people have never seen a MASSIVE battle before. They think a large number of simple character casting and all hitting the same is epic somehow. Most of them have never even seen the inside of a real epic large scale battle where a simple missed cycle by one important ship means life or death to the whole fleet.

Yeah, played EvE, enjoyed a lot of "epic" battles with my corporation as well. But sorry, the sense of "fun" I get when in engaging in larger scaled battles in Darkfall still surpasses any fun I've had in any other MMO, period, making my experience epic in my mind.

Don't like my opinion? Fine. Think that I'm alone with my opinion? Hardly.

If it s epic in your mind, be donw with it, enjoy it and stop trying to prove anything. What you were implying in your post was the small size fight youhad was epic in size. Whether you meant it to be the size or not is irrelevant. What you need to do now is shut up about it and  play your game. May as well get as much fun out of it as you can, you ll be bored silly soon. Sorry had to throw that in.

Really? I thought Battlefield games allowed 64 players tops. You got me there. But then how many FPS games allow 200vs200 battles again?

I still don't think they can be compared. MMORPGs allow far more diversity in combat (possibly, been lacking in recent releases) while FPS are aimed towards fast paced combat (with variations - Quake vs CoD), and where everyone has the same setup, with minimal class/weaponry choices (if they have any at all). They're different.

oh jesus.  can't make one little speculation without starting a freakin' flame.

i don't have to admit to having any judgement on his thinking.  somebody asked a question and i answered it.

i didn't make ANY STATEMENT on the QUALITY or REASONING of his thinking.  just what i assumed WAS his thought.

how about following the logic of that?  maybe not too good following logic?  logic.  yeah, try using it on EVERY post you make.

well, logically speaking, if i were in a clan (not any involved in that fight), and i thought this clan city was weak enough for my clan and/or allies to attack and conquer; then, i'd certainly attack it.

hence, logically speaking, he would be covering the coordinate from people NOT involved in the fight.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Map could also be blacked out to stop people from planning an attack ahead of time. If the map is detalied, then a guild could use the map to find out where the weak points are and other advantages. Haven't okayed the game so I don't know.

Thanks OP, this is exactly what I'm looking forward to.

Would someone please answer this guy's question? I would like to know as well.

Depends on which side you stand.

One answer will be:  To cover up the total number of players that were on the map.

Another answer will be:  To cover up the names of the players, as they might not want it known they are playing DarkFall, or engaging in PvP, or part of Clan X... or something like that.

One side will riducule even asking the quesiton.  The other will assume there is obviously something that is trying to be hidden.

It does seem like it was probably unnecessary.  But, on the other hand, it would have been a blob of names that counting them would have been impossible anyway (which is why blotting them out with black in the first place seems unnecessary).

So why block them out? Unless... One of the pics, the minimap is not blocked out and you see some green dots.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but, please bare with me, maybe this battle wasn't with 150+ people? Because I tried counting the green dots on that minimap and even though the pic is resized and compressed, there are only about plus/minus 20 green dots. I'll assume that each of those green dots shows a guild member. Now, I'm kind of drunk so maybe I'm just rambling.

What if, hypothetically speaking of course, the battle wasn't with 150+ players but with a much smaller number? Maybe less than 80? Either way, if the battle was with 150+ players, I would be interested to know how the OP got that information. I doubt that you see a "150 players are attacking your city" message.

On a lighter side, big PvP battles are great, I loved those in UO and Planetside. I'm glad that this game offers at least that. Granted, it's lacking in other features and is barely an RPG but if people are having a good time killing each other, I'm happy for them.

I know that I'm labeled as a "troll" on these forums but I hope you guys realize that my beef is not with you but with the company that made the game. This wa suppose to be the best MMO since UO and after 8+ years, it's a shadow of what it could have been. What a shame.

o.O this thread is full of fail on both Fanbois and trolls... I have read this entire thread and I have wasted a good 10 mins of my life... You guys repeat yourself over and over again.. Both fanbois and Trolls need to take one major chill pill. Hardcore players are not dicks... Well not all of them... Epic does not mean size at all, epic means something amazing. I could say that I had an epic 6v6 cal match or there was an epic keep battle or it was an epic raid against a pve boss. It does not matter epic is thrown around sooo much that the word simply means whatever the user wants it to mean.

But nice battle looked like it would of been fun but I have to say the graphics are weird. feels like I went back in time.... But I am sure you had to lower your setting so your computer could handle that kind of battle. So I am fine that the graphics look bad. I really want to see the video of this also.. Please link it when it is up. THANKS!

I'd be interested to know this as well, but apparently this is a cross-post from the Darkfall forums and is not even the original posters experience. So  someone would have to ask the person on Darkfall's forums that actually had this "epic" battle.
