Actually, I think this was very cleverly said, Darth. Sadly, it is just your interpretation. I honestly want to play the game too, to be part of the epic failure that seems to be DF and say "Yeahhhh mannn, I was there!" Just like it would be an honor to stand next to the dumbest person on the planet and take a picture and say I met them. It would be a pleasure, that doesn't mean it is a freudian slip, but very good try.

I'am not quite sure what exactly they were doing for 8 years.. or even 6 years.. whichever way you want to look at it.. but it sure as hell was not developing this game because in reality it should not have taken more than 2 years to build what amounts to nothing more than a totally empty, featureless, contentless video game. Darkfall is nothing more than a poory done combat simulator system with bad animations, outdated graphics, terrible sound/music , terrible CS, and barebones functionality at best. Couple this with a group of people who are seemingly some of the most incompetent and common sense challenged to ever launch a MMO and you have Failure within a few short months, if not weeks.
People are already saying they are bored and cancelling after only 3 weeks of play which shouldn't surprise at all becaus that's the obvious thing that would happen when there's nothing else to do in a game other than to PK and "full loot".
You can go play www.QuakeLive.com for free and get more enjoyment PK'ing people then playing.

If you talk bad about Darkfall Online and what a liar Tasos is, you will get a warning. It seems that some of the mmorpg.com forum mods are DF fanbots who want gamers to get ripped off giving their cash to a bold faced liar, Tasos.

It seems that it is ok for fanbots to praise the game but tell the truth about the game and its dev's..... its warning time.

Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

I don't understand why it's so important that everyone agrees with the OP or, for that matter, disagrees with the OP.

If you like Darkfall, go play it. You probably think Runescape was a legitimate game, too. Before Runescape, you likely played UO, if you're old enough. These games are unique in that they cater to a specific subset of the MMO community. If Darkfall was meant to be a game for the masses, it would look like WoW, or WAR. It clearly doesn't, ergo it is clearly not. The feature list (which is not to be confused with a clear description of the game) is geared towards those who enjoy what is basically a persistent, online version of Mount & Blade, an equally lackluster release.

But, you know what? It's a good thing that there are fanboys that latch on to a vague hope that a release might be everything the MMO community is looking for. These companies are poking at the uteral wall of game design, trying to find the birth canal of innovation & spawn the next greatest MMO the world has ever seen. Sure, we might end up with a couple of still births. We might end up with a few terminations.

...I'm gonna stop with the birth metaphors now.

My point is that in the end, the MMO genre which we know and love is strengthened by these companies' experimentation. And these companies need money to experiment - this is where the fanboys come in. I'm sure you've heard of experimental titles like The Graveyard and Endless Forest. While these titles may not be your cup of tea, they're making interesting strides down the paths of story telling and social interaction.

So, leave the fanboys be. Let little jimmy sink his birthday money into a copy of Darkfall. It's either that, or he gives his money to Blizzard.

Lastly, @ the people who are whining because they're getting warnings from the mods, try being constructive in your criticisms of Tasos & Darkfall. At the very least, try saying why you believe Tasos is lying. It's all in the Rules of Conduct, handily linked at the top of every post you make.

Perhaps, but it is also the most fun MMO I have ever played.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it...

And so the loyal soldiers remain so, even after the battle was lost, and the "trolls" were right all along. But Im sure somewhere theres a man saying to himself. "Ball&Cup? WOW this is a blast, I love trying to get the ball into the cup, its so much fun!"

And yes the blind haters remain so, even after the battle was lost, and the fans were right all along.

Lie to me Darth, tell me that Tasos didnt say the game was feature complete and ready to launch in 2006. Lie to me and tell me that the game launched in that state. Go ahead lie to me.

He didn't, he said that in 2003, and 2006.

Who  is looking for a game for the masses here ?

In theory DFO, DnL, VG are perfect games for old school players.

In reality they are all big failures.

That's precisely the problem with DFO. I was in beta, as my signature says.

My first few hours in the game were all like "wow, nice world, nice skill based system, is this UO2?".

Then you start to realize that the game is just a huge grind to get anywhere, be it combat skills or crafting. You realize that combat is very dull and simplistic compared to any other MMORPG on the market. You realize that the world is empty except sparse mob camps, the cities are dead with like 5 static NPCs in the racial capitals.

You start to realize that the shell is empty.

And I don't even need to mention the 3+ hour long queues just to be able to play, which is completely intolerable.

or you start to realize that, perhaps, a themepark may be more inline with your own particular preferences.

Having played about every major themepark out there, I just simply couldn't disagree more with your assessment, though of course, that is only my personal opinion.

    Are you kidding me?

I'm not a retard. so If why would I be playing the game after what I stated? Why would I pay for a crap game? That dosent make sense to a consumer.

You paly and I understand, because you guys are Invested in this game, like a scilon is invested in it's cult. No one can tell you factual statements about this company AV, without you guys shouting everyone down and being obnoxious.

You know what is said about ASSumptions, right? So don't ASSume my gaming preferences, please.

I played both UO and AC1 for several years (AC1 for over 5 years). I know to make the difference between a good sandbox MMORPG and a crappy one. This shell is empty.

As someone already said on this forum in another thread, while I prefer sandbox style MMORPGs, I rather play a GOOD theme park than a sandbox without sand and with an empty box.

  • The_KorriganThe_Korrigan Member RarePosts: 3,460

I completely disagree, but you are, of course, entitled to your opinion.

We'll talk about it in a month or two, once the "shiny new shell" will have faded away and the harsh reality will show its ugly head.

Well, we will already see in a few days how many will renew their subscription despite the horrible queues. Maybe there won't be anyone left to fight against in two months anyway.

I guess because it boggles the mind of most of us how people can keep playing and praising a game you have to wait 4 hours in a queue before you can play. During that time, we log into reliable games instantly and play them.

Someone compared the average darkfall queuer behavior to lemmings, and I tend to agree. Or maybe it's masochism.

Sure, I love the free for all PvP with full loot ... but it isn't enough to hold my attention for long. All of the features that made this a spiritual successor to UO are nowhere to be seen, and the queues are god aweful.

Just to remind those of you that have forgotten, Tasos said in April 08 that Darkfall was "Feature Complete" ... if that's the case I'd like to know what happened to the following features:

    - No safe zones.

    - Dynamic mob spawn.

    - Atmospheric, realistic, and surprising weather system.

    - Living world with flora and fauna.

    - Prestige classes.

    - Player Housing.

    - Sophisticated item creator.

    - Sophisticated trading system.

    - NPC hirelings.

Time spent hitting F5 to buy a copy of DF: 4 days.

A copy of Darkfall: 36 Euros.

Time spent in queue to get into the game: 9+ hours.

Still being under the delusion that the fanboys were right: Priceless.

For everything else there's Mortal Online.

If you really spent 4 days hitting the F5 key then i'm not sure that i would trust your opinion on anything.   It's an indie game, chill out.  If anyone expected a smooth launch then they were fools.  Doesn't change the fact that the game itself is loads of fun.

lol you're funny. how do you explain the sold out in under an hour, ongoing massive demand to buy, queues to get into the game, 5K+ new forum signups every week since Oct 08 (over 350K now), more active people on the official DF forums than the whole of mmorpg.com,  most views of all games on mmorpg.com put together the last month...

...and all produced with a fraction of the cost of a mainstream mmo.

yeah this game is really doing badly... not.
