Thank you for your post Acuity7.  I think it is a testament to the true nature of the overzealous fan when we have several well written and comprehensive negative reviews on these board and the responses consist of libelous banter, name calling, incomplete arguements and sentences, and unsubstantiated opinion.  Again, thank you for your well thought out and written post.  I agree completely.

I think one issue with the fanboy problem is that games like WoW constantly bring in new players, often when reaching the age of freedom such as fifteen or sixteen.  They play wow for a year or two, read about how darkfall is hardcore leet skillz game or how AoC has boobs and join the rest of the sheep in supporting the game until launch.  They are unable to form a complete sentence or arguement and instead turn to personal attacks and rhetoric.  At the same time, the aging MMORPG players are able to make an objective assessment of said game and if need be, slander it.

I am a bit puzzled at your description about WoW launch.  Yes it was plagued by excess demand during the first week.  Nobody on earth believe they will hit the million mark ever, and no way anyone will believe they exceed quarter million right from launch.  EQ1 at its best only boast 500k sub, and that means around 100k to 150k online usually.  Blizz screwed up, they hit a gold mine when they were planning to collect some firewood.  They immediately worked to fix it, opening up so many servers that you are amazed at their pace of work.  They immediately announce extension of free gaming month.  That I think is responsible developer.  Everyone makes mistakes, Blizz fixed it.

Now Blizz is immensely richer than AV, indeed.  This does not mean AV should feel content with poor services.  Quite the contrary.  Blizz will sell a million copy of Diablo 3, no matter what they put onto the gamedisk.  AV need to perform 120% better just to sell some copies.  With their current reputation and continuous mishandling, I would say they are digging their own graves.  This is particularly important an issue for MMOs, as MMOs live and die by the daily services.  I am not just buying a game one-off (like Morrowind), I am buying a service by monthly sub.

I do not need to talk about aventurine.  Neither you or I feel that AV is up to standard so far.  You are waiting to see how AV solves its problems, same for me.  I am not in a hurry to waste my money and time in DF.

lol you're funny. how do you explain the sold out in under an hour, ongoing massive demand to buy, queues to get into the game, 5K+ new forum signups every week since Oct 08 (over 350K now), more active people on the official DF forums than the whole of mmorpg.com,  most views of all games on mmorpg.com put together the last month...

...and all produced with a fraction of the cost of a mainstream mmo.

yeah this game is really doing badly... not.

lol hard to sell out 15k copies......and if the forums could pay their bills , they would have more servers up.. get lost....wait to late for you...

No I was not stupid enough to buy it but one of my family members was even after I told them not to waste 50 bucks on something that is barely above shareware quality.
I'am not quite sure what exactly they were doing for 8 years.. or even 6 years.. whichever way you want to look at it.. but it sure as hell was not developing this game because in reality it should not have taken more than 2 years to build what amounts to nothing more than a totally empty, featureless, contentless video game. Darkfall is nothing more than a poory done combat simulator system with bad animations, outdated graphics, terrible sound/music , terrible CS, and barebones functionality at best. Couple this with a group of people who are seemingly some of the most incompetent and common sense challenged to ever launch a MMO and you have Failure within a few short months, if not weeks.
People are already saying they are bored and cancelling after only 3 weeks of play which shouldn't surprise at all becaus that's the obvious thing that would happen when there's nothing else to do in a game other than to PK and "full loot".
You can go play www.QuakeLive.com for free and get more enjoyment PK'ing people then playing.
    Queue on!

If you talk bad about Darkfall Online and what a liar Tasos is, you will get a warning. It seems that some of the mmorpg.com forum mods are DF fanbots who want gamers to get ripped off giving their cash to a bold faced liar, Tasos.

It seems that it is ok for fanbots to praise the game but tell the truth about the game and its dev's..... its warning time.

I can agree with this. I've got numerous warnings and my posts were deleted just because I posted negatively about Darkfall. I'm not even talking about cursing someone out or being disrespectful. Just by providing honest information and questioning the integrity of Aventurine and their product my posts would get deleted and I would get either get a warning or lose my star rating.

It's shameful really. Although I have an idea who might be responsible for this. I won't name anyone because it's probably against ToS but I've noticed that the posts would disappear after the person in question was involved in and was losing the discussion. Is MMORPG.com showing favoritism? I hope not. I've been a member for a long time and I truly do enjoy this site and I especially respect them for not holding back in their interviews but this is getting a bit out of hand. The mods have to be impartial in their judgement.

No my friend YOU are funny. Ive been saying for years that Tasos is a liar. When he said the game was feature complete and ready for launch in 06, I called BS. I called BS when he tried to pass off AI for stress testing. I could go into multiple examples of Tasos misleading people. It would just take longer than Im willing to put into it. Remember when Tasos said that other companies were afraid of how advanced DFO is? rofl. So ya got the 10k people on 1 server yet? So much for that selling point too.

  • schloobschloob Member Posts: 160

It also has a terrible mmorpg user rating which is unprecedented for new releases.  AoC was number one for a month after launch and the same with WAR.  Even car accidents have people trying to get a peek.

Time spent hitting F5 to buy a copy of DF: 4 days.

A copy of Darkfall: 36 Euros.

Time spent in queue to get into the game: 9+ hours.

Still being under the delusion that the fanboys were right: Priceless.

For everything else there's Mortal Online.

well Mortal online isn't playable at ll right now ;)

Closed beta opens tomorrow...so more people will be playing MO than people playing DF now.

Of course, there's no way to know if MO will be better or worse than DF at this point.  But, sadly, you might be right that MO may have more people playing it than DF tomorrow, giving the small release so far.  I hope MO is more open - AV was so secretive about DF for so long, and now we know why.

When asking DF fans what they like about the game, they usually reply with "FFA PvP, and full loot".  Not much more.  The rest of the game, people seem to want to AFK-macro instead of play themselves.  I think that says a lot about how enjoyable the game is overall.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

From everything I have read and heard is that the devs actually listen to the fans on the forums and give feedback.  You should go to the forums there and do some looking around.  I too hope it does not fail and actually delivers.  We need a good up to date sandbox out on the market.  I have played soooo many games and just can't do the themeparks anymore.  If only SWG was in pre cu state i would still be playing that and awaiting MO, now i'm just awaiting MO and trying coutnless games that don't suffice.  Well hopefully this game will come out soon so i have something to spend my money on again.  Please Please Please MO don't fail i beg you, give me a complete sandbox so i can't waste yrs. of my life.

     Not much more?

This is what some of us want, and it is more than enough. I played WoW for a few years, and all I did the last two years was PvP in Alterac Valley. To me that was all WoW had to offer, instanced PvP with a honor reward. I Played WAR when that mmo launced, and all I did in WAR was leveling in scenarios and castle/keep fighting. WAR had instanced PvP and large battles without a winner. Darkfall have world pvp from day one, large battles and hopefully city fighting with a purpose.

I have signed up for the MO beta because it has FFA PvP and full loot. Nothing else matters, because full loot makes the PvP fun.

    1 Week behind, subscription cancelled.

Wanna know why? I can't say the game couldn't be fun, but you just can't be pure mage for example and compete with others.

Why? They're weak and with that ZOOMED firstperson view, you really just can't do a shit about a melee guy running around you.

Plus there's no diversity on combat, all weapons are almost the same.

And I find myself amused reading about the features now that the game is released, about 20% of their promises were true.

Just my opinions, flame on fanb0is

QFT.  I was issued a warning and had a post deleted.  There was no profanity or any (at least direct) personal attacks.  I think it is becoming obvious (just from casually reading the DFO forum on mmorpg.com) who this big baby is that can't stand any criticism of the game or of their own psychotic ranting.

What's really despicable, of course, is that there are one or more mods that are enabling and coddling this clown.   How pathetic do you have to be to hide behind the nanny mods (by constantly reporting posts) in order to try to stem the flow of well deserved criticism of this sorry excuse for a game?

I can tell you why I like the game

    1) Combat- FPS like combat in an MMO = win imo. MO will have this and will be fun as well. Friendly fire in DF works as it should and makes DFs combat have more tactical depth than any MMO on the market currently.

    2) Boats are fun

    3) Sieging

    4) Political meta game. Althouhg right now not advance, I expect it to grow in a similar fashion as EvE

    5) Mob AI. It can be retarded or great. It seems to depend on the mobs. I will say this, even the retarded mobs try to get behind you to do extra dmg. Most MMOs AI is just tank and spank, I haven't see one mob allow this.

    7) Guild interface. Although not intergrated very well it has more options and better functionality on day 1 than most MMOs have before an expansion

Once I get out of noob mode I'll fill in more. Does the game need polish though? Yes, but I believe the core mechanic are soild.

However my Clan has been dismissing TR, LOTRO,  AoC , WAR  as inapplicable for us as clan   to join but on DarkFall we are all sure its the best a clan can focus on  right now...Although the individual reviews where positive for individual gameplay the decision for our movement to get in DF was as a clan...

....My clan forum is full positive reviews ..thats people i can trust because i know them from playing games together for years...We all have give the gameplay high ratings..and those who waiting just moaning about getting in, the gameplay is oe of the best what can be obtained as MMO today...

when the best thing i hear from my friends (guys i flew with for years, not random internet peoples) is "omg the shadows they're amazing... the leaves each have a shadow... the shadows are just so incredible"....    and that's coming from people who are knowingly paying to play beta, because they feel if they are paying customers; THEN, av will listen to them, vs random people who aren't paying to play, and therefore they can influence the shape of the game.

my friends who are playing, to play a game... have all been "wtf.. this was a waste of money."

or i could just make up stuff like, "hey i'm in this huge uber clan and our clan forum is full of positive reviews and stuff man!!!!!"

What games your clans played ? sandbox ? However my Clan has been dismissing TR, LOTRO,  AoC , WAR  as inapplicable for us as clan   to join but on DarkFall we are all sure its the best a clan can focus on  right now...Although the individual reviews where positive for individual gameplay the decision for our movement to get in DF was as a clan...

May it helps you understand ..

It's hard to read most of what you say everytime since your grammar is so horrible. How old are you? Just curious not flaming.

Darkfail is a great game for clan life. It's a game where Clans can evolve on any aspect they want instead of a WOW clan where the most you can do is "raid"...

Still, the game so far has been everything but impressive. I'm gona wait that the game is released and that a few patches kicks in to stabilize things before giving it another try. For now, I consider Darkfail garbage but I'm willing to give it another try later on. Right now, it has potential but falls short compared to other solid games out there.

You people astonish me.  Wait a week to buy the game, wait hours every time you want to log in.

Hoo and hah everytime Tasos announces the same tired jubilee of crap that he's been spouting for the past 5 years.

I think I've come to the conclusion that Tasos has managed to create a closed society of quadraplegic adolescents with brain tumors, who are fed intravenously by nourishment provided by a machine powered by revenue generated by Darkfall.  That's the only explanation for the fervor held by some of you.

Imagine how you felt if you saw the following scene on the street:

A group of... oh, say a thousand people.  They're lined up, single file, waiting hours, and in some cases, days for the opportunity to  jam rusty nails into their retinas, while shouting out "HOLY SHIT, THIS FEELS GOOD!"  Meanwhile, the executives of the rusty nail factory shout from the top of the Sears Tower about how everyone should feel privileged to have the opportunity to jam rusty nails in their retinas, and that the factory is working to improve the quality of the nails.

Sane people would look at that scene in utter horror.  Sane people with compassion in their hearts would likely make some attempt to rescue these poor, brainwashed victims from themselves.  Instead, the victims try to convince sane people that jamming nails in your eyes feels so good, and that you simply aren't hardcore enough to jam nails in your eyes and experience the pleasure.

Meanwhile, nearby, men shoot themselves in the foot and yell out to nearby onlookers.  "HOLY SHIT, THIS FEELS GOOD!"  These people then attempt to convince people to let TasosCorp shoot them.  When they refuse, these angry people rant about "HOW DO YOU KNOW IT HURTS IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN SHOT?"

The answer, which all Darkfall Fanbots seem to lack, is common sense.  It does not take first-hand experience, or the brainpower of a nuclear physicist to observe the launch debacle perpetuated by Aventurine, and come to the conclusion that Darkfall is an unmitigated disaster, whose best feature is the 'radar' system, which allows all sane individuals to point out fucktarded Darkfall Fanbots on forums for miles around.  I thank Tasos, from the bottom of my heart, for placing a neon sign above the heads of Fanbots, which happily reads, "This sign is smarter than I am."

Man you astonish me even more. You are nobody, you came from nowhere, you know nothing, and you try to convince me that this great game I've been playing for the last month is just a piece of crap...

    1. The FPS style combat is interesting, if they can continue to improve upon it.  In my opinion, FF doesn't make the game more tactically deep, it provides circumstances around which tactics evolve, in the same way that circumstances and abilities evolve tactics in other games.  The arcane UI, and the way it controls combat (LMB, LMB, LMB, LMB), makes the use of diverse skills less possible than in other games, limiting capabilities, and therefore tactics.  Many of the available skills (especially spells) are duplicates of each other.  There is little differentiation between weapon types.  It's a wash, in my opinion.

    2. Boats are.... boats.  Given the newness of the game, I doubt you or very many others can speak with experience about the naval aspect of DF.  Still, it is an interesting addition to the game, as are the warhulks.

    3. Other games have sieging as well.  DF suffers from some of the same problems others have had (i.e. exploitable walls) and such.  Also, no doors or gates on walled cities is a curious design choice.

    4. The effectiveness of the political system remains to be seen.

    5. Mob AI is indeed a mixed bag.  At times the AI seems intelligent, but more often than not, it seems that the mobs just run about and attack in random fashion, giving the appearance of intelligence (because they don't usually just stand there).  I've only had one or two mobs actually stand there and slug it out, but it has happened.

    6. There is no sixth thing.

    7. The guild interface is good for what it does, and is better than many others out there.

The community is one of the worst in any MMO, if not THE worst.  The game is not solo friendly.  The alignment system is easily exploitable.  Skilling up is a process than many, many people would rather perform with macros instead of playing the game, which is an indication of the overall "fun factor" of playing it.  Saying the UI is not user friendly would be an understatement, and needs serious refinement.  Many of the features advertised to this day on the official DF web site are not in the game (secure trading boards anyone).  Crafting is time consuming, expensive, and boring.  This is not to mention many of the technical problems that persist (and will most likely be fixed over the next few months).

Is this the worst launch ever?  Probably.  Is DF the worst game ever?  Probably not.  Is it the best ever, in its current form?  I don't think a rational person could possibly say yes.  Does it have potential?  Sure, just like almost every other MMO out there.  Is Aventurine up to the task?  That's the real question.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

    Epic quote for the day:

"Darkfall doesn't suck, it's the player community that sucks!"
