Think about it this way.. how many of you that have played oblivion etc.. ONLY played in third person for combat, I can chance this number will be rather low. It just wasn't.. right. For running around or to look at your character and "Ohh" over the new set or armour or whatever, okay, sure, but personally it was hard to distance, and manouver properly, which, if Mortal Online had TPV, I think it would be the exact same.

Over the shoulder camera COULD work, but I think that's suited more for actual shooters and doing that would limit your view and block what space your character took up on screen.

It's been said a crap load, but I will say it again, immersion.

I would have bought and played this game if there was a 3rd person view in it, with no doubt, the features are just perfect and the game looks great! But with no 3rd person view, there is NO WAY im going to pay and play it. No way. Nevah. Period.

Its sad though, since i have followed this game since announcment and had really high hopes... :( But its just impossible, for me, to get immersed in the world if i cant see my char. Would feel like counterstrike in a fantasy setting or something.

Good bye Mortal. I wish you guys success and many happy gameing hours anyway!

Posts like this shows whos the real retards on this forum.

I personally dont see the problem with implementing both 1st and a restricted 3rd person view.

It is however the developers choice, and people who had other expectations is allowed to be disapointed.

I will have to wait and try the game and see if playing it in 1st person view will work for me. Some people like myself like to switch back and forth between 1st and 3rd, depending on the situation. However, playing in 1st person all the time for me is kind of annoying, but again, I have to try the game and see how it works.

... and aparently you havent experienced many game developments.

I havent seen one single game development project where the developers havent changed their mind about something before alfa, beta and release. If you think game development is a static process, you yet again proved who's the retard in this discussion.

The game is already in beta though so they are not going to change something as fundamental as the view. Especially considering all the details they've put down on character movement while inside 1st person view.

  • KoldbrannKoldbrann Member Posts: 4

The change between a restricted/over the shoulder 3rd person view and a 1st person view aint that big. The advantage is however that you get a more realistic view.

Since i havent really followed the MO development, i cant comment on this game in particular, but more on a general basis. The problem with 1st person views as i see it, is that it feels like you are running around with goggles made from toilet paper rolls. In 1st person view the, field of vision is actually quite narrow, and placed infront of your head.

You have ways to solve the problems with this, like you had in Half Life, where you could see where you  got hit from, and maybe MO has implemented such a feature.

Feature wise  i think MO can be a big hit, and i wish it all well :-)

it will be interesting to get use to

<--- played mmo for 4 years, just mmo, then started playing Crysis

it was weird trying to get back into the FP frame but it worked and was very fun

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.

I'm definitely not a fan of 1st person only views, but I'll give it a shot. I like being able to see my character. But I think it's really too early to confirm 100% there will never be a 3rd person aspect. If demand is high enough, they'll do it, that way they make more money. Either way....I hope its a good game :D

Hello, Valentina, are you of italian descent?^^

Anyway. There will never be a third person aspect, rest assured, because it would unbalance the gameplay: they have confirmed it multiple times. But, there will also be other ways to see the character, just like the trailers shows: mirrors, water reflections, and possibly more we don't know of. ;)

Yes, we all hope it will be a great game!

Before release they will have some sort of 3rd person, be it asthetically only while sitting or whatever but it will be there. All devs bow to the whine eventually.

They don't bow to anything. And besides, it will screw balance out - and they won't do it. They're not interested in having the largest audience like most developers out there, otherwise they simply would have gone with a fancy, cartoony, point and click theme park MMORPG. This is a HARDCORE, niche game.

I call BS. You claim to have followed the game since release, and just now heard (probably in this thread) that there is no 3rd person view? Bull.

You wouldn't have played the game anyway.

I suggest you spend some time reading up about the game and make your decision with all the info that is currently available, you may change your mind once you see that 1st person is the only way to go with this game.

No, there won't. You may wish it, but that doesn't make it so.

This is a very legitimate complaint. It's one reason I cannot play most FPS for very long. I actually know several other people that this happens to as well, so this is why they should have allowed for an option for customers. I can play Halo for a bit, but there are times when I feel like I'm going to hurl right on the Master Chief's blaster. After feeling this way, I usually don't touch the game for at least a week. Since it's already paid for, it's no big deal.

But I don't think I'd pay for a MMO monthly which I usually play on a daily basis, start to get that bobbing side to side motion of the character, feel ill then log out for a week. Usually I am heavily involved in a guild or leveling with friends, and it's unfair for me to expect them to wait for me to feel better.

I actually think there are quite a few people who have this to some degree and the industry knows it. This is why you see on some games they give you the option to turn the bobbing off and switch modes from 1st to 3rd. Some games don't bother me at all (Call to Duty 4 for me) and others I have had to resell it on Ebay very fast due to the motion.

if theres no third person how the hell does a character "look behind" themselves to see whats behind them.....that is the stupidest thing about 1pv any only 1pv --- No one can get arond the fact that you are only viewing a 2d representation , its not really 3d it just looks 3d.

Hmm, then way do you bother to play that game? Blind people do not drive cars, for the same reason.

I'm told Ginger tablets provide relief for many folks. (not all).

If those don't work, looks like you'll be skipping MO at this point in time.

I was hoping that MO would change this fact and incorporate 3rd/2nd person view.  However, it appears that they are confident in their decision and going full steam ahead with FPV only.  This is unfortunate because this game had so much potential for me, but I wouldn't be able to get over the FPV and therefore have to look on to another MMO.  I'm sure it will get attention from a lot of customers looking for something new and different.

  • VorretVorret Member Posts: 101

I think it's awesome that they're going to FPV only.

I don't mind 3rd person in MMO but a change of scenery will be awesome! This will add alot of realism to the game and I'm sure alot of FPS players will jump on and play it (as I will).

I think providing the option of 1st or 3rd person is the right thing to do as giving options provides a good customer experience and allows for a greater mix of players.

It's not like people asking for a PvE server on a PvP-centric game, its a client-side feature that is a cakewalk to turn on and yields no gameplay advantage in PvP.

Forcing 1st person only = money lost, reduction in overall player base may affect gameplay (empty worlds suck)
Giving a choice = money gained, no gameplay impact

    Ahahahahaha!  This is hilarious!

First person view: I sneak up on preoccupied miner and hack away at his backside, guaranteed kill.

Third person view: I sneak up on pre...- OH SHIT HE HAD HIS BACK TURNED TO ME BUT STILL SAW ME BEFORE MY CHARGED SWING LET FLY AND TOTALLY PWN'D MY FACE NOW I'M AT HALF HEALTH!

I know my descriptions are somewhat...crude, but I hope you can understand that TPV DOES give you an increased, and quite unrealistic, situational awareness.

Yes, you DO have a choice: play the game, which equals money gained for SV, or don't play the game, which won't impact my gameplay one bit
