I've been looking around for new upcoming MMO's, and it seems that alot of people really think Aion will be the next big MMO. I decided to research abit more about Aion and it's the first game I've seen in a long time to have good, smooth gameplay, like WoW. I'm not saying that WoW is the best MMO out at the moment, though it does have the most subsribers, but I think part of the reason it is so popular is the gameplay, movements, smoothness of combat, etc. Aion looks very promising, but I also notice it is by the company, playNC, which has a number of different MMO's which have not been very successful (Lineage 1 & 2, Guildwars, City of Heroes/Villains). So, do YOU think Aion will be the next big MMO?
I think your find that they the games u say havent been very successful were , Guildwars and Lineage 2 and City of heroes/villains did very well and still are.
You are correct. Like any other business, if the mentioned games were not making money they would shut the doors/servers which will happen when a game is no longer successful. Using WOW numbers to measure another games success is like using Walmart numbers to measure the success of the local mom and pop store.
I think Aion will do well, but not be "the next big MMO." It will probably hold me off until TERA comes out. That's the one I'm really waiting for. Seeing their alpha footage of a boss fight a few months ago blew my socks off, and if it looks that good from alpha stages, and already blows away Aion's current state, then that's all the proof I need.
I think TERA will be the next big MMO, but Aion will do okay, just not be a huge success in NA tho.

I totally agree. Aion is just a filler for me till TERA comes. TERA is the only MMO that truly looks next gen. Everytime I see a video I am amazed at how good the game looks. I dont even see single player games with better graphics.
Having just won Best Online MMO at Gamescom, I think allot more people are going to look seriously at playing this game than before Gamescom. I think it will be the next big mmo until something like Final Fanstasy 14 or All Points Bulletin comes along.
Sadly Aion will not be the next big thing in the MMO market. Why? you ask... Its called the Abyss. Aions endgame is wastly diffrent then World of warcraft and WoW players will have a hard time making the transition. Geting griefed when they are taking down a raid Boss will make 50% of the WoW comuntity quit the game. Also the mayor focus in Aion is PvP and griefing is comonplace, this is also something WoW players are not used to.
All in all This game is to diffrent then what the avrage western MMOer is used to. To become the next big MMO over here.
Personally excited about Aion initially but not having any pure PvE servers means I'm out. The beauty of WoW is that PvP is completely optional and not taking part in it only locks you out of PvP stuff.
Aion on paper looks to have PvE areas in the outer areas but the content in the middle is all PvP areas. I won't play a game that locks me out of PvE content by putting it in PvP areas. I played UO long enough to know that I don't like open world PvP
Over in Asia they support anything so AION should do ok,but over here my gut feeling tells me this game will struggle big time after one year.I aam not sure how old AOC is right now prolly over a year, but i expect AION in NA to be along the same lines as AOC at the same time line.
I think the PVP and eventual lack of content for Aion will lend more fans of NCSOFT to be playing GW2 rather than this game,i actually expect it.As of right now i would rate GW2 as twice the game AION is and i havn't even played GW2 yet and i am not a fan of NCSOFT what so ever, but i am nopt afraid to admit a decent product when i see it,AION barely scrathces the decent logo while GW2 looks to be a very good effort.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

LOL, what? First off if you have 50+ people taking down a raid boss and get killed by an opposing group of players, this is generally not considered griefing. That's PvP.
Also anyone who played on a PvP WoW server before the expansions should know what griefing is very well. I can't even remember all the times that I was corpse camped at certain points in the leveling process in WoW.
Don't get the wrong idea though, I don't think there's any way Aion will get even close to WoW's numbers. Maybe 100k-200k in the west.

Ok.... I don't really understand your post at all.
PvP is something that will be central to GW2 as well as Aion.
Lack of content? Aion is releasing in the west with a very deep crafting system, complete PvP siege system, over 15 dungeons, and enough quests to last you until max level.
Here's a question. What content do you expect a game to ship with? Aion has way more content than any other game released in the last 4 years.
What exactly are you basing your comment "GW2 is twice the game Aion is" on? I would seriously like to know because I've researched everything I can find about GW2 and there just isn't enough information available to make a judgment call like this, unless I'm missing something, and if I am, I would like to know what it is.

And getting owned by other players and stopd from getting that gear they want will not sitt will with most X wowers....
Personally I think no. Technically, Aion is as easy mode as it gets, exactly like WoW, so it has a chance to get even more fluff subscribers. Simple watered game almost to the point where there is no depth in character architecture, that it will appeal to non mmorpg players.
Aren't you one of the ones going gaga over Champions Online? Sure you didn't get confused about which game you were referring to?

Don't pay attention to Wizardry, he is a regular Aion troll. You are right there is nothing to base his comparison with Guild Wars with. It's the same company producing both games and GW won't be out until 2011.
I'd like to leave my opinion on Aion and games like Aion.
I have a big problem with these asian mmos. The characters all have the same look to them. They all look like they just came out of a final fantasy cinematic, they are all gorgeous, perfect to the last detail, and they seem to have no soul, no character. They seem to me empty of emotion and every trait that I associate with humanity. This is why i never got into asian mmos and prefer the western ones. Playing a character like the ones in Aion would feel to me like playing a manequin from a clothing store.
To the Aion lovers, don't feel Im flaming your game cause Im not, Im sure the game is good, its a ncsoft game afterall, I just cant get past this character style.
On the other hand, I feel that Ncsoft came close in guild wars, but not enough to completely draw me in.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.

You're not alone. While the graphics are pretty nice in my opinion I'm not a huge fan of the art direction in this game. I really enjoy the game and I'm going to be playing it but I certainly get what you're saying. For me, the art direction is not a real strong point of this game but that's a personal preference and I enjoy the gameplay, lore, etc. enough to overlook that.
On a bright note, least it didn't make me go, "Wtf is this shit?" like WoW did when I first tried it. I was so turned off by the artwork I almost stopped playing the game. Glad I didn't because regardless what some may say I found WoW to be an enjoyable game. I do miss gnomes though

I agree. But say what you want about wow, the art style is consistent with the warcraft games. Nothing to point out there. But like you, i was also turned off by its graphics in the beginning.
I just wish I could get past the Aion's style, it looks like its a really cool game.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
I`ve been very sceptical about new MMOs in the last few years but after researching on AION I must say that it has all the needed elements to be the next huge MMO.
It is made for the masses, stayed clear of traps and misstakes that so many companies made and I predict subs in millions.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
I think Aion has everything in place to be a great game. Having said that if you do not like PVP at all or are the type of player that wants to do it all alone, this will not be the game for you.
Yes you can hit max level doing PVE, but to reap the best rewards means you must hit the abyss. That means you will be doing PVP as well. Some of the instances require pvp and some of the instances are contested and the other faction can come in and you will have to fight to stay there. I happen to like the blend myself. Alot of other players will not.
If you want to hold hands with the enemie this is not the game. Soloing in the abyss is a dangerous thing to do but you can do it until a group of players see's you and you will get whacked.
Rifting into the PVE areas will piss some players off as well. I loved it and all we had to do was form an alliance and fight back kill them and we went on about our business.
The game is gorgeous and the grind was a joke. No the game will not be a WOW killer. Aion is polished, and lag free for me and it was alot better then AOC or Warhammer. I see alot of gamers hyping the game but not the big game houses or sites. Unlike the other two mentioned. Only time will tell and I would give it a try before I wrote it off of my list of games.
Personally I think no. Technically, Aion is as easy mode as it gets, exactly like WoW, so it has a chance to get even more fluff subscribers. Simple watered game almost to the point where there is no depth in character architecture, that it will appeal to non mmorpg players.
You are misinformed Solareus.
AION is harder than Lotro, CO, WAR, AOC, VG and WOW when we talk about PvE, group content and PvP difficult.
Not just an opinion, you can confirm this playing the game (beyond tutorial) or asking to its players.

NO, i have been in every beta, this game is not hard.... it is the easiest one i have played, and only some of the quests are hard, and thats the group quests, so yes it is just an opinion... WAR is the hardest of all, it is the most grinding game out there, other than FF XI

You're joking right? You might have to hit keep, forts, and cities many times to get your drops, or grind for tokens for a long time, but it's not hard. You don't even have to talk to anybody to get into groups for any of that stuff. Regular mobs are soloable, and most bosses in RvR are tank and spank, no thinking required.
WAR is not even in the same category as FFXI. I'm not sure why you would say WAR is 2nd to FFXI in difficulty.

Oh, in every beta right?
I am not talking about first levels.
Compare instances, PvP and group content in AION with Warhammer, AION is far more hard.
War is the EASIEST of them.
War is easy and casual in group content, solo content, PvP and end game. War is fun, but you are the first person I know who said War is harder than anything.
FFXI is more challenging, I agree.
When you start to experience the Abyss, group instances and dungeons in AION you will know what I am talking about.

NO, i have been in every beta, this game is not hard.... it is the easiest one i have played, and only some of the quests are hard, and thats the group quests, so yes it is just an opinion... WAR is the hardest of all, it is the most grinding game out there, other than FF XI
You are misinformed Solareus.
AION is harder than Lotro, CO, WAR, AOC, VG and WOW when we talk about PvE, group content and PvP difficult.

Really the tutorial dosn´t count:)
