    T.E.R.A Online

Damn, I wish I could read Korean... gots no clue what it says.  But the artstyle, though asian, looks pretty badass :))

It does look interesting-that brings up a question-why is asia is now coming out with all of these great games?

NCsoft is the leader in MMORPGs, except Blizzard has the biggest MMO, but by no means as successful as NCsoft's Lineage, Lineage II, Guild Wars and now Aion.

It will probably be a success, initially at least.

There is a simple reason for this IMO, compared to releases over the last two years and a few that are in OB now it has a huge advantage....it is stable, complete (lots of room for more though) and it's mechanics work. There are a lot of frustrated MMOers out there waiting for a game that you can actually play.

NCSoft has had several major hits and I am sure this will be one of them.

*If Tabula Rasa had been given faction PvP then it would have rocked IMO

Aion is fairly hard core is comparison to WoW. First all Aion servers are full pvp with alot of questing in pvp zones. Ganking has been pretty rampant so far in aion. Most of the NA & EU WoW population is on pve servers.

I do believe that Aion will succeed, but simply not anywhere near WoW numbers for NA & EU.

Played into the 20's so far not seen one player from other faction let alone a gank squad. There are rifts but not sure how bad it will make the pve areas especially as 1.5 has introduced penalties for PK, I have no doubt this signals that NCSoft will try to curb serious ganking, though hopefully not as ruinously as they did in L2. However, yes the Abyss is full on but once people get into it I think many will actually find it refreshing after sterile PVE, true it won't suit all.

*edit I really doubt that anygame will ever capture quite the same market proportion of WoW, it was just a case of right product at right time IMO

I decided to research abit more about Aion and it's the first game I've seen in a long time to have good, smooth gameplay, like WoW. I'm not saying that WoW is the best MMO out at the moment, though it does have the most subsribers, but I think part of the reason it is so popular is the gameplay, movements, smoothness of combat, etc.
Aion looks very promising, but I also notice it is by the company, playNC, which has a number of different MMO's which have not been very successful (Tabula Rasa, Guildwars, City of Heroes/Villains). - EDIT: I did not realise some of these games were quite successful, sorry about that.
So, do YOU think Aion will be the next big MMO?

Hm you mentioned Wow, so i conclude that with "big" you mean like WoW.

So my answer is NO, definitely not.

I'm not enamoured of NCSoft. Auto Assault and Tabula Rasa don't instill much confidence.

I've seen too many reputable companies drop the ball.  Way too many MMOs with good ideas and/or a good IP, that turn out to just feel half-assed when they hit the shelves.  Like the devs were so busy and mismanaged, they didn't get around to making sure they were putting out a game with basic solid gameplay.  I'm not even talking bugs, I'm talking about how many MMOs are like a soup with half the ingredients missing.

In the case of SWTOR, it's BioWare, sure, but will they be able to do an MMO, just because they were so good at SP games?  I've been let down way too many times to bet on it.

Aion seems to have already proven that while they aren't bringing anything groundbreaking to the table, it's a solid game that has all the ingredients the recipe calls for.  Add to that all the hype, and that they aren't putting out a bug infested mess that will make a horrible initial impression, and they pull way ahead of almost all of the competition, even though it's basically just another fantasy grinder.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I should have made it clear that ganking is not possible for the early levels. I got to level 21 on my chanter in the third preview event (cap was 30) and Elyos were camping (pretty much all level 30s). It was bloody hard to do anything. This issue most likely will not be nearly the same level of a problem in the game due to higher level cap & Abyss pvp farming being availible instead.

Depends on what you mean by "next big mmo". If you mean it will topple the current biggest mmo - then, no.

If you mean it will be successful, profitable, fun to play then, very possibly.

Looking for the "next big mmo" or in other words a "WoW killer" is moot... I don't forsee that happening for a long looooooong time.

Keep in mind I'm not a current WoW player (although I have played it on and off since release) and I will be checking out Aion.

My hope is that it's good, well balanced, fun and has a well developed end game.

Yes but you do realize SW:TOR is going to have a cash shop right? And will be an instanced game much like Guild Wars, so not a true open world MMO?

You do know these things right?

Despite those things though TOR will be the next big thing.

I am hating everything I read on TOR and see after the recent video's it doesnt appeal to me in any way.

I'm a happy chap if Aion has a small core community 1m or less and just ticks along.

Gah!  Even though it was a joke you should be banned on principle for the mere suggestion of a Mu2.

    /smacks spicex with stick

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Unless players are given the chance to not PVP then Aion will not be the next big MMO. PVP MMO's only appeal to a certain type of gamer and when a MMO forces PVP then those players who do not like player killing will choose not to play.

If Aion appealed to all gamers then it might have a chance. But as a PVP only MMO? Definately not.
