I have no allegiance to any particular magazine or company, and no one pays me for my opinion. My opinion of this review for Darkfall, and what I have seen myself, is that Zitron's score was very generous.

I played Roma Victor and within 24 hours removed it from my hard drive... where is that game now? At least that game is a free download with no monthly fees. It's not trying to pretend to be a major MMORPG and asking $52 to download the game. Aventurine is...
And Dreamlords was an over glorified RTS game that thought they could make up for bad gameplay with awsome graphics.
Darkfall is no different. the game is clearly still in early beta, nothing of what they claimed the game was going to be like, is remotely present and short cuts and cheapness are seen all throughout Darkfall. It clearly is an amature project and no discredit to the people who worked on their tasks, but Tasos is just incompetent.

You cant have someone who likes the game review it, that would be biased. Before reviewing DF, Ed did not play the game, so he was un-biased. It was in the middle of playing that he started disliking the game. And thats normal. As you mentioned, DF is niche, which means that most people will not like it. Which means that Ed, as a representative of a general population, scored it appropriately.
Score 2/10 means that most people will not like the game. I dont get why this bothers DF fans or AV. I mean, they arent really selling the game, why do they care if less people are gonna be ready to not buy the game? Does it really matter if 1 million people are ready to purchase the game or only 1000 if AV is not selling it?

I would bet any amount of money that if Ed Zitron gave Darkfall a positive score there would be no claims of invetigating his activity through server logs. Fans of the game would be cheering his review and posting it all over the web. Pointing to his past reviews of Roma Victor and Dreamlords as proof that he is willing to call a game bad when he thinks it is.
Hell I bet tasos would hire someone to update their webpage just to post the review there for all to see.
Red handed is a pretty strong accusation considering the "facts". For example, does it really take more than what the roma victor team claimed ed zitron played [8 hours] to determine that roma victor was a very troubled game? Does anyone think that game required more time than that to see the issues of the game or that somehow things would have changed if only he had played for 50 hours?
Noone would be villifying for the low score if it wasn't blatantly obvious he never even played the game for more than 3 minutes, it's just that server logs back this up entirely even though anyone who plays DF and read the review already knew it.

Maybe, just maybe the guy is good at understanding game mechanincs and can see it in a short period of time.
Since he gave low scores to 2 other games and both those games did not do well. It is safe to come to two conclusions.
1) People really trust his word and did not play the games because of him
2) The games were just bad, and his reviews were correct for the most part.
No matter how long he played, he came to the conclusions he did. If he is wrong other reviews will reflect that. Not the fans vilifying him.
