Dealing with this Eurogamer scandal has been extremely frustrating for us. To those of you that believe were unprofessional for calling Eurogamer out on this, well have you know that theres nothing professional about this entire affair. Its obviously personal when someone will tear our game apart without actually playing it. Its certainly personal for us to see our livelihood being torn to shreds by a fraud using a respected large game site to do it through.
Tasos is acting like a child taking a tantrum -- he is taking the bad review personally.
Eurogamer is offering another review and Tasos slaps it away -- so what is Eurogamer suppose to do?!
This cast a horrible light on Aventurine.
If Darkfall closes down, I can Tasos suing Eurogamer for liable.
**Hehe, yeah. That would be the day. Only we already know he focusses on negative aspects no matter what and he has an intense disliking for "momorpegers", hehe. Gotta love his EVE and AOC reviews, though. Still, Zero Punctuation ftw!**
Personally my favorite was the TR one. Specially his description of Garriot lol.
It's like two boxers going at it. Reviewer in the blue corner, DF in the red. The ref being EG. Blue comes out the gate swinging, holding no punches. Red gets knocked down in first round. Manages to get up though within the 10 count. Before the fight can resume. Red corners coach (Tasos). Runs up to the ref. Claiming his boxer has been wronged. The blue corners boxer threw an elbow. The blue corner boxer just says no I didn't. The ref agrees having not seen the elbow either. Further backed by the judges, saying they thought they saw an elbow, but aren't quite sure it connected. (Keen's blog)
The bell rings, both fighters go back to their corners. Though the Ref sided with Blue corner. The Red corners coach (Tasos) makes a few comments about playing dirty. If they do it we can do it to right? (Read Tasos replies). Round 2 starts Red comes out swinging, throwing below the belt punches, and elbows. (Read: Trying to discredit the reviewer, digging around looking for him on myspace and the such, the whole screens of server Warring EG spoof clan, and general crying on various forums). Blue corners fighter doesn't back down. The bell rings ending the 2nd round.
During the break. The ref gets a call in to the referee board sitting in the booth (Read: The upper management of EG). The ref walks over to the red corner. Explains that he still stands by his decision, and he see's what's been going on (namely post by Tasos). He says that he's been authorized to bring in another Ref. Since Red corner seems to be unhappy with the observation abilities. Red corners coach flat out refuses, claiming something along the lines, of win or lose. People will see what this fight was really about in the end.
In the end red corner loses to unanimous decision. Days later Red corner fans still make snide comments about the Ref, (Read: DF fanbase) being blind and having no credibility. Blue corner fans (Read: Skeptics) sit back and laugh at the Red corner fans. That get bent out of shape over the lost of one fight at the start of the Red corner boxers career. Believing that red corner boxer (Read: DF) has potential to be good. Yet is ultimately held back by a bad coach and manager (Read: Tasos).
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.

Yeah but what you forget is Red corner has the video "proof " to show that blue threw an elbow. Of course, red corner will not show said video, and just verbally tell you a play by play of the incident of what clearly is not on the video that dosen't exist..
Meanwhile all both of the red corner fans at home watching the fight on tv, call each other and get on speaker phone and with great conviction!>>>>declare war on blue corner.
seriously though, after the Hissy fit Tasos has thrown If I were a gaming site/magazine id refuse to even review Darkfall. Imagine if every game dev did this sort of thing for every opinion or review given about their games that they didnt agree with. Tasos, in my opinion has put himself right up there with Smed
Also as someone earlier brought up. Whose "logs" are next? are they gonna be posting logs on regular customers that happen to make a post they dont like? Are they passing your super sexy cyber logs around the office and laughing at your lack of skils? They have shown a willingness to break a trust for there own gain. So id be careful what i typed in Darkfall, you never know who will be eading it.
ohnoes not my cyborz logs

Suing him for "liable"?
First, it's libel. Second, it's a review -- it's presumed to be an OPINION, so you can't sue for that. Libelous acts are ones that you say "Congressman so and so was blowing 10 year old boys!", and then it turns out to be totally false.

A truly harrowing ordeal im sure we can all agree and I hope Ed Zitron has made a full recovery, if only Tasos was there to hold his hand and help him understand what makes Darkfall so special over a reasonable time period of around 100 hours that we all know is necessary for an objective honest review of how awesome this game really is, non of this would ever of happened.
I wonder if its to early to start asking "Did Ed Zitron kill Darkfall"
This is probably the single best thing that's ever happened to Ed Zitrons career, his Roma Victor and Dreamlords reviews excluded, and Eurogamer must be delighted with the results.
Wow, Tasos really slandered that guy. See libel. It's funny, he basically says "We don't want another review" *cough* Ed is a liar! Biggest liar in the world! *cough* "We will take this on the chin." *cough* This is all your fault you liar, you never played the game! *cough* I've never seen anything so unprofessional in gaming in my entire life.
If I was Ed, I would look into actually suing AV and Tasos. He wrote a review about a game that even Tasos admits he played. He wrote his opinions about the game and gave it a score and his company he freelanced for stands by him and the score. Tasos, on the other hand, publicly slandered an individual for his opinion and demanded he be punished to the public. If Ed really played 9-10 hours, he should get some proof, if possible, and attempt to sue Tasos for trying to ruin his reputation for his own personal gain. I'm not sure he would win, as I am not sure Tasos directly lied about Ed or not, but he should definitely look into it.
Not to really change the subject but if they had so much control over logs and monitoring peoples words and actions, why was it so hard to catch all the hackers?
I can't imagine any other major sites reviewing this game, so i think tasos and company may be doomed to this one poor review. Whether he was fraudulent or not, this is what people will see if they look for legit sites' reviews of the game. That is, unless Eurogamer removes the review from the listings. I'd have to agree that they must be worried that a more respectable reviewer is going to come in and give Darkfall an equally weak review, maybe a 3-5 range but still.

I'm not sure about European privacy laws, but I'm pretty sure if an American company publicly released details of someone's account, they could have legal action taken against them. This is why you never see MMO company release things like names of accounts banned or players that have had disciplinary action taken against them.
Of course, AV hasn't actually RELEASED these logs, they just CLAIM the information they are putting out is true.

edit: you forgot all the occasions where mister Zitron got ganked inbetween his desperate questions in your reconstruction. That must have made it even more harrowing.
Awesome. Once again Tasos owns Ed Zitron. Now we can all go back to enjoying the game. Well that is the 10% that frequent this poor excuse of a forum that actually play.

Here are the three reasonable conclusions one can deduce:
they do in fact keep extensive logs but are just incompetent/don't care about the hackers.
they do in fact keep extensive logs but dont know how to read them
they don't keep the logs and Tasos is making all this stuff up.
Whatever the reason, Tasos has just admitted to everyone his company practice cannot be held in good faith.
I'm starting to lean more and more towards this all being a setup by Aventurine and EuroGamer to garner them more attention and publicity though.
It makes a bit of sense, Darkfall is not a very known game at the moment, plus Eurogamer is not as known as other game media sites such as IGN. But then, if Aventurine wants this kind of first impression, they'll not be getting many new players, not to mention they cannot handle the demand at the moment, advertising would not be a priority for Av now, right?
I found it funny "we'll just take it on the chin" part by Tasos. Really? I would say he complained alot about the jab. This whole "scandal" babble was fabricated by nobody but Tasos himself. You reap what you sow.

This first game i have seen beg for review. All DF has to do open NA server. Then 1 up,ign, gamespot, etc will review the game.If the game is good then people will see the hachet job eurogamer did.
This has only happen because DF has stupid limited launch plan.Screw by their own failure to launch.
Eurogamers are not the only game reviewers in the world.

This is some real entertaining stuff. I can't wait for the next installment of this drama.

Easy. It's damn near impossible to buy this game. So one said game site must ask AV for a free account.
