I have one last thing to say those of you in here that play EvE, give yourself a pat on the Back you are the ELIT!

There are those mmo players who excel beyone thier peers, and then there are these who excel all mmoers, being paragons of what a mmo player migh hope to achieve, AND THEN THERE ARE THOSE THAT PLAY EVE, these players who fate deemed worthy to stand above all others....and all hate and envy that are cast at us will only make our Legend become stronger!

EvE is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,

EVE is Wisdom to the mighty, EVE is Succour to the brave,

So the world shall be EVEs footstool, and the soul of Time her slave,

    Our Game is marching on.

    Glory, glory, hallelujah!

    Glory, glory, hallelujah!

    Glory, glory, hallelujah!

    EvEs truth is marching on.

There are a few important things that help keep EVE vibrant and expanding :

    1. One server to rule them all and in the darkness bind them

Because there is only 1 server, there are always tons of people to play with and the universe feels alive. Where in other games it can happen that the population is declining on certain servers and creates a snowball effect quickly, so the server becomes deserted.

Also, if you know a friend is playing, there is no planning for servers, just get online and you know you will be able to find your friend.

    2. No payed expansions

This is not just about the money, actually, the money is only a small part of the greatness of having no payed expansions. No payed expansions means they can improve and expand current content. There is no need to devide the community between players that bought the expansion and player that didn't. Everyone gets them for free and they are not optional, so everyone has them. So there is alot of horizontal expansion ( more features, improvements, etc ) going on, probably more then there is vertical expansion ( higher levels, in this case new skills and ships, for example tech3 ).

    3. The complexity

It takes months to understand the game and even after years you will find and learn new things.

    4. Social

There is alot of interaction between players, much in the form of PvP, trading and in corporations and alliances.

    5. Offline training

The thing about this is, you can be subbed, but you dont actually have to get online much, so if you are busy in RL, you are less inclined to stop your sub. Which you would do in other games that do not have offline training.

There are more, but these are some of the unique things of EVE Online, some of them, like free expansions are so good, it is strange no one else does it.

EVE Online is also future proof, you know it is a good investment because of it"s track record, it is a safe bet ( compared to other games, like for example Darkfall or AoC )

If WoW is like McDonald's, EvE is like Starbucks.  It's expensive, the people who go there are assholes who think they're better than everyone else, and because of that it gets a reputation as being 'elite' that draws in people who are too good for McDonald's.

    Edit:

Also, if WoW is like the Beatles, EvE is like Nine Inch Nails.  If you don't like it nobody will care when you GTFO, and because of that it has amassed legions of long-term, devoted fans where other MMOs are more like revolving doors.

Someone should do a study on the corelation of EVE subscriptions and enrollment in Excell for dummies courses at community colleges. I would 1 battleship two frigates and two full haulers that there is a relation there...

    heh. win.

It isnt just perception though. Starbucks really is better than McDonalds.

I read an interesting article on massively about Eve's subscriber numbers and ship losses per month.  I was pretty surprised to learn that there are less ships lost every month in PvP combat than there are active players reported by CCP.  There are .67 ships lost in PvP each month for each active subscription to the game.  That means either the subscription numbers are totally inaccurate, or most of them aren't participating in any PvP at all.  The only other option is that active Eve players, on average only either lost or destroy about oner ship per month.

tons of charts to prove that no one really plays Eve...  http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=656

You need to play the game.  Most people live in an area where PvP is not "allowed."  Also, ships lost in PvP in a month can vary greatly depending on who's at war with who.  0.0 alliances at war will lose more ships in a month than all of Empire space.  PvP is the focus of the game, but not everyone has to do it as their main focus.  PvP is essential but you need miners, mission runners, and people producing to support the PvPers.

I'm not sure about subscription numbers being accurate but what is accurate is that the amount of players has risen over the past few months.

That number is too high imo. We have alot of players that don't participate in Combatant pvp.

If you played Eve at all you would know that though. Just look at all the pvers in Empire a 1 day old noob can see the tricked out pvers in their faction fitted Level IV mission runners.

Im wondering why you would even post that, someone is going to call you out saying you never actually played Eve.

Do you really think everyone gets into combat pvp in eve with hundreds of ways to play the game? lol

Eve is all about freedom, this isnt darkfall where you get ganked easily outside a town. It has safer areas that are so big one could stay in that part of space for years. Actually Empire alone is bigger than any two mmos on the market combined imo.

Edit: hell im sure you will hear from pvpers in this thread that havent been killed in months lol.

I deleted what I wrote as well.... and completely agree.

    JGM's comments were great.

What confuses me is... if you don't like the game, why is there a need to come to the forums and blast it?? I never could understand that logic - that said... EVE is by far the best MMO I've played to date, and I've played almost all of them dating back to the UO days.

My biggest regret is that I didn't give this game a chance before now.

Miners, manufacturers, researchers, traders and all sort of people need PVPers.
PVP supports them, not the other way round!

Everything is related to PVP and ship loss. Ship loss is what makes EVE so great and provide the desired level of complexity.

I'll agree with this. I've noticed a good amount of Eve ADs on Adult, Anime and even illegal stream movie sites LOL!

    Big AD push by CCP.

More ships are lost in pve than pvp so while pvping defintivly are important to the market it's not vital.

...you mind enlight us what your statement is based on?

Also, leaving lone numbers behind, the value of the ships lost in PVP is far higher than ships lost on missions.

Nahh more ships are lost in pvp, what people are not taking into account is that pvers buy alot of shit even though they don;t lose a ton of ships.

My pvp main has about 6 or 7 different ships that I use depending on situation. While my Pve mission runner alt has over 60 ships in various docks all tech II fitted and rigged. I have three Navy megas, three Domis, two brutix,  like 20 different Vexors and couple Navy Vexors, tons of RIfters, punishers and Incursus ships.

My pve character is so bloody rich that I spend a massive amount of isk. everytime something is buffed or changed I buy that ship to mess with it. Like buying both caldari, amarr and Gallente Cov Ops ships all tech II and named fit with rigs lol.

Sure my pvper loses more ships but by far my pver spends more isk.

Blown up ships are not the only thing that keeps the market moving alone and for someone to say different they are either a troll or they lack experience in Eve passed the trial.

...or lack fundamental knowledge about EVE industry/ - economy like you.

As soon as you remove ship loss, you get the dynamics of any other MMO economy out other - something uncomparable to EVE.

Did I say anything about removing ship loss? losing a ship keeps the market moving but so does actually buying shit.

Whats so hard to understand? 6k ships get blown up daily, those players need to replace those ships, mods and rigs. People need to make those Items so they need to buy or farm materials it all keeps it going.

Who gives a shit why someone buys soemthing off the market, as long as they keep buying it its all good.

Your making such a big deal about ship loss even though I see no evidence that the market is being harmed at all.

Do people not buy materials off the market? Ships? mods? rigs? yes? then who gives a shit why they buy it.

The ecomony is a major reason EVE continues to grow. No doubt about that. Did anyone say Capital Fleet Destroyed!!!? Just Curious.
