People have to take one thing into consideration.  EQ2 & AC2 didn't do badly because they were sequels.  They did badly because they weren't good.  EQ2 became respectible, but it was not good at all in the begining.  AC2 was a joke from the get go.

Whatever they make its obviously not going to be just like WOW.   If people want to play WOW, they'll play WOW=)  WOW wasn't just like DAOC or just like EQ or any MMO that was out at the time.  They'll do exactly what they did in 2004, take everything they learned and make a better MMO.   Thats what they always do.   Hopefully the next game will be as good as their others.

World of Haircraft, the massive multiplayer hairdressing game with revolutionary hvh combat, over a hundred custom hair dies, 200 different hair models, and hair ranging from thin and sparsely planted to the wildest and thickest afro coifure you can imagine.

The world ... will never be the same!

    Oh stop it already!!!!

WoW is EQ, DAoC, AC, UO smashed in a package then dumbed down to childrens comprehension Level.

Stop putting WoW so high up the MMO food chain its a baby game.

I herd its going to bee called World of Resilience.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

OMG dont get me started on resilence!!!

Lets take away pvers ability to pvp and force them to grind arenas and get a whole new set of gear to compete.

WoWs Pvp has always been lame, proven by how good pvp is in DAoC, Eve, War, L2 and others but damnit atleast I could stomach it when you could use pve gear to pwn people!

Josher I know you play WoW and that's ok but try to understand where im coming from.

Before WoW MMOs were going in a decent direction. We had good communities, players that enjoyed things like Rp and Lore. they enjoyed complex game mechanics and advance character progressions. They wanted to stay in MMO gameworlds for Years. These people would wage wars that would last months, these players put community first they loved things like crafting.

Then WoW comes along, RP dies, MMO freedom dies, lore dies, pvp with risk Dies, Challenging non instanced boss encounters basically die, Whats left?

Solo questing, easy raids, progression only through Loot and Instanced pvp Ctf matches.

If you can't see a problem I dont know what to tell you.

Pull off the WoW fanboy sun glasses and realize that this genre didnt evolve it became easier and dropped a whole bunch of good features.

First off I want to say I love JGMIII's adamant hatred of WOW. Though I do think you oversimplify the game a tad, I do think that WOW has devolved into basement dwelling mouth-breathers and 45 year old man-babies comparing and bragging about their EPEEN's. If nothing else JGMII is serving as the much needed opposition to the rabid fanbase that is WOW players.

That being said I do like WOW and played it for many years. Blizz does do things right when they make a game (whitewashed though it may be.) So I'm looking forward to this new IP. I hope each player owns a hotdog stand and that you must sell the most hotdogs every day and that for every hotdog you sell your profits go to new hotdog uniforms until you are the greatest hotdog entrepreneur on earth. Just an idea.

If we're including WOW expansions, then yeah probably.

As far as different MMO IP's go, I wouldn't put it past them, they've always been a company that has serveral balls in the air at any one time.

I was talking about 2 completely new MMOs.

I figured that would be sort of smart. They could take the safe bet with another fantasy setting and then work on their next gen game and if it doesn't really work out, well then they always have the safe bet.

Millions of copies sold AND STILL SELL TODAY!

Blizzard is a good company that makes some of the best PC games still to date. They are one of the few companies that actually keep PC gaming alive and well.

I too look forward to this MMO project they are working on while I also wait for Starcraft 2 soon , Diablo 3 which again will also be two great games from blizzard.

Hell they could make WoW 2 and the fanboys still couldnt care less.

I may have been unclear, but I was speaking specifically about MMORPGs, and none of those qualify.

The fact is that the devs of the most popular or influential MMORPGs have not been able to repeat their success.

Again, Blizzard may break this trend and make two big hits in a row, but so far we haven't seen it happen.

Have we? (talking specifically about MMORPGs).

No it's 3 actually. Blizzard already confirmed they have 3 MMO's they work on.

    1. Wow expansions coming.

    2. New IP MMORPG.

    3. The new revealed project in combo with Microsoft: Blizz aids MS with the development of the new XBox console which would be developped with RTS and MMO games in mind (to lift the present limits found on consoles).. As the project is speeded up, they use the Wow engine - for now -. It led to speculations of a MMO game for the new XBox with Wow as the background Lore.

    ---

    It would make sense:

    - Intro MMO with fast and quick playing sessions on a typical console market.

    - Medium MMORPG with Wow (expansions up to level 100) and then probably a Wow2 with phasing tech (to use the old content in another time frame). It was already hinted that "phasing" the old content would be used massively in the future.

    - Hi tech MMORPG which could include more hardcore play to satisfy the basement dwellers (or would be's).

And all 3 mmo's (they admitted they work on ALL 3 now !) don't eat up the same markets.

    ---

It looks that good old JGMIII will have a hard time in the following years. :))))

    Resistance is futile :))))

LOL why are you directing your post toward me!

If blizzard actually makes a good MMO that is challenging, gives me freedom and choice and isnt just some asshat item grinder Ill play it. I played all the other Blizzard games pretty hardcore only WoW was the bad apple imo.

have to admit it's quite exciting news. I wasn't too keen on WoW and I didn't really get into Starcraft so it's pleasing that is a different franchise from both of these. At a guess I'd say it wouldn't be too different than any of it's other games, ie. fantasy-based and with a distinct art-style on it's characters and environments.

You could probably help him get over it by not repeatedly posting your anti-WoW dogma in every thread that the game is mentioned in. It's a tad hypocritical to flame WoW then complain about people flaming you in return.
