The bounty system is terrible, Security status should go away or at least be rolled in with faction standings, to you know, make some sense. Lowsec needs a complete rework, Nullsec soverenty mechanics and POSes in general need to be reworked especially in regards to: Small gang combat should be expanded on, at the moment its too practical to bring a blob. Science and industry interface needs a good kicking, at the moment filling 10 manufacturing and 10 invention slots takes about 20 minutes... good god why do I have to click so much. Active tanking (espec. shield tanking) needs a bit of a boost, mostly due to engagement speed making buffer tanks much better. Frankly i dont like the gate system, we should be warping from system to system, not jumping though gates. Local needs to go, its too easy to use as an intel tool.
Ill think of some more later.
I pretty much agree on all points. As much as I would like to see a seemless, gateless universe I just don't think the technology is there but hey what do I know I just play the game I would absolutely love to see local removed from 0.0 but my god there are a lot of people that would scream bloody murder over that one. Though I do see it happening down the road sometime. Would give way more uses to cov ops ships other than just exploration and hiding. The funniest thing about the arguments against removal of local is that both the pvp and non pvp players think it makes life to easy for the other side of the coin.
I'm all for removing local. This is the only reason I'm interested in venturing into wormhole space to see what it's like. I believe one should have to use directional scanners / probes to trackdown aggressors / victims.
Only people that are crazy enough to broadcast their messages should be visible in local.
I know Local is used as an Intel tool but I much prefer using my directional scanner to acquire tactical Intel data
This would breathe fresh new life into the game for me personally.
I guess i should checkout wormholes to experience what it'll be like. I just fear getting trapped in one. I am reading horror stories on the site where people get trapped and may lose SP due to their personal negligence and lack of forethought. I dont wanna be one of those idiots
My dislikes are both artwork related. Some of the ship models are downright fugly....I'd say most are but I haven't seen the majority of ships except with the info button in the market. The avatars are even worse. I tried for an hour to create an Amarr character that didn't look like a deformed psychpath and gave up. I hope that the Ambulation release spiffs them up a bit.
My apologies to all of you that look like a deformed psychopath in game

I agree with this. the CCP artists seem like lazy turds too me. The tech 2 versions of every ship is simply a reskin. I pay all this isk for tech 2 ships only for a slightly more fancy skin. I know it makes sense and all from manufacturing standpoint (use tech 1 hull to make tech 2 hull). Still.....
I still miss my old galente t2 covert ops hull (mavalas). They changed it to loussy imicus and now its ugly as hell. bout to train amarr frigate V and try to sell my old covops wit rigs on contracts and trade to a pretty ship
Avatars are a bit too similar for Caldari Achura males and pretty ugly overall. amarr males, certain bloodlines if not all look like old mens. Not sure what logic this is
The fairer looking races all come with high CHA. It's like they come pre-nerfed
I disliked the lack of content, as I saw it. At the risk of adding to the cacophony of a broken record, there really wasn't anything to do outside of: bickering with opposing corporations, PvP, mining, very prosaic questing, and working over a highly over-rated economic system (it's really not as deep as many claim it to be, even though it's the most complex that I've seen).
Edit: accidentally inserted a filthy, dirty word that I totally didn't intend to
You won't get stuck in a wormhole if you have your own probe launcher fitted. There is always a way out. All I can say to those people who feel like they will have to be constantly scanning so they don't get ganked is hire a cov ops pilot to sit on a gate or wormhole entrance and be your eyes. Too many people want to be the uber solo farmer like in other games.
Yeah some ships are damn ugly but there are others that just awesome looking. You can now view all the ships in game with the 3d viewer they added. Just open the info window of a ship you wanna see and click the 3d viewer button. I think Ambulation will beef up the character creation some and maybe people won't look so fucked up sometimes. I love EVE, however i dislike the fact of the Tech 2 BPO's. A lisense to print isk
The game clearly favors large corporate interest and they are provided several of these "so called licenses" it seems to me. I not sure it there is a way around it but I don't like it.

My personal opinion on this is that the higher tech ship manufacturing should be for the larger corps. If everyone could do it then it would lose all meaning. Newer players and small corps still have access to limited run copies so they aren't completely locked out. Also have to remember that tech 2 production was kind of screwy with the moon mining exploit, now that it has been fixed tech 2 production is more difficult. I don't think the BPOs themselves were licenses to print isk but when combined with the exploit it certainly was.
I've played Eve for about 18 months over 3 separate stretches. What stands out for me as a negative are some of the PvP mechanics. Namely docking timers and jump gates. I was in a PvP corp in 0.0, and when we got to fight it was a lot of fun. Unfotunately, a lot of time is spent trying to bait people to undock, bait people to attack you, bait people to jump through a gate, etc etc. Also, its too easy to "hide" by cloaking up at a safespot, or staying docked up in a station.
All this basically means is that the PvP game consists (mostly) of repetition of baiting and hiding tactics. And very little actual fighting.
That being said, I love the game, I just wish PvP was less...gimmicky? (Too early for me to come up with a better word here)

To cite each of my examples: - "bickering with opposing corporations": the metagame, the game-about-the-game that many Eve players enjoy. I just wasn't into it, I didn't share the same passion for it that others did. Though, I can certainly appreciate that others do find it engaging. It's all just vapid to me.
- "PvP": it was bsically just that - fighting other players in certain areas of open space. There were player-borne objectives, such as territorial ownership, true, but gaming has progressed beyond such simplistic offerings in my opinion. It was just shallow, not robust, and the PvP I did engage in wasn't very compelling (in my opinion, of course).
- "mining": the root of all crafting, I may be wrong, and rather blase. Other MMOs offer a wide variety of root-level resource gathering. - "very prosaic questing": It is what it is. Very basic text-driven hunt-and-peck escapades.
- "and working over a highly over-rated economic system....": Lots to sell, villainy to be had, but in the end no deeper than WoW or other MMOs that have robust markets.
What was I looking for, generally speaking? Just more, I suppose. Eve, while I did enjoy it for a short time, is rather shallow.

Hmm, i'm not really sure how to properly respond here. Eve definitely has its metagame which can be tiresom but that doesn't count as being content or lack of.
Your complaints about PvP are the same complaints about pvp in any other mmo out there really. Atleast Eve does have player conquerable and controlable space.
Mining. I don't mine never have really. Its boring as hell to me so I don't do it but there are many in game that truly enjoy it. To me if something is boring in game I go do something else I find exciting. There is something for just about everyone in game.
Missions, yes they are very lacking but Eve never was a pve game, but I do agree with you.
Do you really think that WoWs auction house system is as deep as Eves regional markets ? Sorry I cannot agree with you here at all.
Eve shallow ? Sorry I don't get this one either.
One of the bigger problems I have with the game is the vast ammount of things to do in game. I tend to get distracted by all the things I would like to do in game.
Removing local, you remove big part of player interaction as well. I don't shoot all people I meet in EVE , do you?
I wouldn't want to see the total removal of all local chat. 0.0 space definitely needs it removed, low sec could go either way but high sec would definitely need to keep it. As far as player interaction goes in local chat all I ever see people doing is talk smack, rarely do I see people having a real chat. Most player interaction is done in the corp chat channels anyways.

Yes the distribution of opportunity between power blocks is fair, but the advantages gained from these opportunities by the power blocks is out of balance with what the average corporation has to deal with. Here again EVE mimics life. If it were easier (notice I didn't say easy) for corporations to gain access to revenue streams that were in any way in balance with what a large 0.0 alliance has access too, I think there would be allot more competition, PVP, and small gang warfare.
I think CCP realizes this too as wormhole space seems to be a way for small too medium size corp's to generate more income and PVP without getting completely slaughtered.

As another approach, do you need a channel listing to still have the player interaction? Would it be enough to see that there are 'x' number of pilots in the system and not neccessarily who those pilots are unless they chose to identify themselves (by chatting)?
I think in lowsec/nullsec this would be a good compromise. In highsec, I could see having 'full featured' chat in that you get the listing of who is in the system.

Eve is the closest thing to a perfect MMO I have seen so far. Call me a fanboy, but there is a reason Eve has consistently stayed in the top spots on this sites polls for years.
1 - EW needs to work on NPCs, even if it means reduced effectiveness or something. It is annoying that they are completely immune to some forms of EW.
2 - Yes, I would like the ability to customize ships to some degree. I understand that is is probably a pipedream due to technical hurdles, but it would be nice to be able to customize my ship somewhat (and without spending billions on Tech 3 ships).
3 - Lowsec needs some work. Right now it is more dangerous than nullsec, and that seems wrong to me. They need some kind of empire presence in Lowsec (maybe random patrols, with ships weak enough that pirates could still stand a chance of winning). Lowsec should be higher risk than highsec, but LOWER risk than nullsec. And right now it is a camper heaven. I like NPCs to react realistically, and there is no way that the various empires would tolerate pirates roaming their space at will...and especially would not tolerate them camping highsec border gates. And yes, lowsec is still Empire space.
4 - Yes, we need collision detection on celestial objects in and out of warp...it is immersion breaking for me to be phasing though stuff. Bumping into stuff might be annoying but phasing through stuff is immersion breaking for me, which is more annoying. Yeah, I understand the whole "warp isnt real space" thing...but if you're gonna go that route, we shouldnt be able to see real space at all in warp. Either way we shouldnt be phasing through planets.
5 - Yes, I want the option of walking around on ships. Yes I'd like it if abulation in stations included real-time views of the game outside the station via windows. I realize this probably wont happen, but I still want it.
6 - I dont like that half the people in the game are Caldari. They need to make the other races more appealing. Especially their portraits. Amarr look like child molesters. It is impossible to make a male Galentean that doesnt look like a fruity homo (Not that I have anything against fruity homos, but I'd at least like the option of not looking like one). I'd like a lot more freedom where portraits in general are concerned.
It is both a good and bad thing that Eve requires a lot more time invested than other MMOs...I can pick up and play City of Heroes and stop 10 minutes later and still feel like I accomplished something. Eve isnt really like that.
That being said, I have been playing on and off since beta. I say "on and off" because I occasionally get bored with Eve and play another MMO, but I always find myself coming back to Eve. There just arent any other MMOs with it's depth.

Well said. I do have a couple of things to add though.
Looking out a station window and seeing whats going on out there won't happen simpley due to technical limitations. While it could be done the amount of lag it would cause would make all the work CCP has done to eliminate as much lag as possible would be all for nothing.
Most people are Caldari because they read the race descriptions and think that Caldari are the pvp gods not knowing that race doesn't matter in this game.
Like you I have played on and off since beta and keep coming back to Eve because everything else bores me after a couple of weeks.

Hmm, I don't have a problem with the timers per se. Replace "docking timers" with "station games" and that is more of my point. I just think its far too easy to avoid 0.0 combat in Eve, considering how the game is usually described as hardcore.

I see your point but I would have no idea how to fix it. You do need to have some sort of safe place afterall, and if you are docked in 0.0 you really are not that effective in terms of combat. The timers are there for a reason and the docking / gate jumping games are far worse without the timers. I just never bother to engage at stations unless they are far enough off to not be able to redock easily. Just need to be more creative in luring people into traps I guess.

One mans trash and all of that, I suppose - cheers though, glad you're enjoying it - I really gave it an honest go.
The game clearly favors large corporate interest and they are provided several of these "so called licenses" it seems to me. I not sure it there is a way around it but I don't like it.
well, i would agree if it werent for invention. but as they added that, im afraid that i disagree with you entirely, the lottery was a poorly thought out system, but its gone now and has been dead for years.

What about the timers do you dislike ? Are they too short ? Too long ? Shouldn't be there at all ?
Hmm, I don't have a problem with the timers per se. Replace "docking timers" with "station games" and that is more of my point. I just think its far too easy to avoid 0.0 combat in Eve, considering how the game is usually described as hardcore.
C'mon

I see your point but I would have no idea how to fix it. You do need to have some sort of safe place afterall, and if you are docked in 0.0 you really are not that effective in terms of combat. The timers are there for a reason and the docking / gate jumping games are far worse without the timers. I just never bother to engage at stations unless they are far enough off to not be able to redock easily. Just need to be more creative in luring people into traps I guess.
