they could take the game off rails, and let let us be who we WANT to be.

I don't want to be FORCED to be a "hero"....I don't want to be forced into a pre-designed "iconic" role....I want a virtual Star Wars universe where I carve my OWN path, and make my own way.

I want more to do than just "exciting Star-Warsy" combat.

A game with depth, and freedom, in other words.

This is simply another step toward over-simplifying and consolising MMORPGs. Have you seen the Smuggler's cover system, for example?? It TELLS you with little icons where to take cover....you're on rails the whole time, with pre-designated courses of action. Any choice is purely an illusion, and any there can be no freedom in this type of game. I am pretty much predicting that any space combat, if it's even included, will be more like Star Fox, or some other rail shooter.

Why the hate?? Because for years we speculated on how AWESOME it would be to have a Star Wars MMORPG set in the Old Republic era....only we were envisioning a REAL MMORPG, not a glorified console game. We're pissed because there will NEVER be a true Star Wars MMORPG as a result of TOR. The potential is wasted.

What you think constitutes a real MMO is new to me.  They all meet the MMO criteria.  What you are defining is sandbox as opposed to theme park or guided content.  You want sandbox, then wait for one to come out.  Bitching about a MMO that chooses not to be sandbox is the epitome of stupidity.

You'll notice that I said "MMORPG" instead of "MMO". You obviously don't know the difference, just as you assume that I'm clamoring for a "sandbox" game....and you probably don't even know WTF a true "sandbox" is.

And yet you have the SACK to call me "stupid".

And who's bitching?? The OP asked a question, I answered it. All I see you doing is trying to incite a flame war.

Youre just a smacktarded kid who cant get over pre-cu,go back to the SWG refugee boards and cry in the arms of your fellow crybabies.

They have bit off an awful lot..................... lets see how the chewing goes.

People said the exact same about blizzard years ago too.  Will this game come out like that? I don't know, but at least we can wait and see and at least give them the benefit of the doubt.

Aion players know their game is a grindfest and that is what TOR promotes against.

STO fans are worried it will be better due to Cryptic having a bad track record and Star Wars being a better MMO universe over STO where space combat is focus, and everyone knows Star Trek space combat is boring as shit.

To ask these boards why all the hate is rather funny as all games here receive mostly hate postings.  I believe many come here just to find faults with whatever game is being made, just so they can cause discontent.  Plus its usually people who have complaints that post in the first place.  This board seems to attract the most vicious of the trolls who don't seem to have a life other than posting negative comments.  Very few of the malcontents actually have any ideas how to improve the said games.

That said i look forward to both TOR and STO although I'm a bit more excited about STO.  I really like the direction Cryptic is going with STO and looking forward to playing the Klingon Empire.

Well, I still see MMO as a  premature genre in gaming.

Kinda like FPS games back in the early 90s when ever FPS was considered a Doom-clone (sounds familiar doesn't it?...lol).

But who knows, maybe ToR will the Half-LIfe of MMOs....=)

Most of the hate I have saw on the boards have been due to the game  not being a sandbox. I think the game will at the very least be worth the box price to check out and being Bioware  should be worth a few months.

Curious what end game will be like but I do enjoy leveling chars and with the promise that each class will not repeat quests makes me quite excited. I assume I'll probably level several classes to the end.
