Lets rez this question since it's been released...

Is it? People still feel the same?

I can't even believe I saw the words "Champions Online" and "WoW killer" in the same sentence. But I guess people have to weigh and measure every game against WoW at some point or another--might as well be now.

Champions isn't an awful game, and it's kind of grown on me, but it's definitely no WoW killer. My first 5 minutes in the game I was ready to uninstall it. Champions makes a really bad first impression, or at least did to me. After a while it grew on me, but still not enough that I see myself playing long term.

If anything's going to put a dent in WoW it's probably Aion, but I don't think it'll be a WoW killer, either. It's basically a more modern WoW with wings.

This is getting those Sherdog topics about wich fighter will win that people bring back up after the fight just to flame each other

Its similar to what people the day after a soccer match or other sport.

    Pointless.

I am still having a ton of fun in Champions Online. I am glad I got the life time as I will be playing this game for a long time. Though, I doubt it will remain as my only MMO. I will most likely rotate between Champions and whatever I decide on doing next, aion or fallen earth. I have not decided.

People who use the term "wow killer" generally have no clue what they're talking about.

The game has been out less than 30 days?  So, I hope so.

Life time was what? $200?  So, what do you define as "long time"?  Based on your opening sentence I don't think your "long time" is the same as mine.  Anyway, $200 / $15 = 13.33 - so you need to play for 13 months to get value for money on that sub.

And there it is:  You are still having "a ton of fun" and the game is still in the first 30 days yet you are already thinking about something else and moving on?  And not just anything somewhere in the future - but the next thing.  My bet is that in 6 months you might turn this game on to show a visiting friend or relative.

You will tell them you have a "life time sub" and what great value it is.

Then you will think about it again a couple of months later...start it and see the patcher say "298Mb DOWNLOADING" and you will just pause it and think "meh...later".

In fact, you would probably have been better off to buy the box and one to two months of sub to play the game.  In a year, when you hear there have been major improvements and content additions you could sub again for a month.

Sorry, I don't mean to pick your post apart specifically, but your post was typical of what so many people seem to say of many MMOs.

And to answer the Thread Question?  You answer the question.

Based on the fact that the game is new and you (and many others) are already looking to move on?

    No WoW killer here.

WoW players play WoW.  Some play it for years.  They play nothing else and they are not looking to move on.

Champions is a fun game... but it is nowhere close to that.

Champions is fun.  The character creation is something I can obsess over for hours, trying to create the perfect character that I'll want to lvl to max.  I'm still narrowing it down.

WoW killer?  Who cares.  If you like it, play it.  If you don't, there are plenty of other games for you to play.

Well, I was bored with both AOC and Warhammer in the first week... if I stick with a game longer than a  week,
I tend to play it forever. I still have subs to EQ and EQ2.

Well, I also got a lifetime for LOTRO, I still login weekly for Kin events. I also plow through all new content when it comes out. I got my value out of that, ages ago.

I am confident that my relationship with this game will be the same as the other games I play: max out content on two toons, revisit for all content updates. This way, I don't have to plop down $15.00 everytime I want to do that. It's a done deal. I like not having a monthly.
    I am looking for a newer title as a 2nd game, as I can't breathe super heroes 24/7 - that's just me. :)

If you like creating characters that much you should check out the game Spore.  It's all about making wacky characters... just an observation.

I didn't read a single post in this thread.  I just wanted to comment that I absolutely hate the title of this thread.  Can we stop already with the nonsensical phrase "wow killer"?  Please?  It doesn't even make any sense.

Isn't Champions Online just another City of Heroes?

My sentiments exactly.  The term "WoW Killer" is seriously overused by the uninspired posters, and this must be the 7,893rd post about this stale old topic this week.  The term has lost whatever tiny shred of meaning and worth it ever had.

The Problem is that it is inevitable! One day Wow will be like EQ 1. One of those great games you can say was cool but the play style ended. The Era of the Holy Trinity Began with EQ 1 and ends with WoW. The new Era has begun, Action mmo classless style where the creativity shines from the player. CO is the Beginning of it done truly well. CoX was the test bed for this genre...can a superhero mmo really be competitive with the fantasy mmo genre? You bet!

Sword and Sorcery is fun but this superhero stuff is allot more enjoyable. Cryptic is now Legendary since they OWN this genre, and thats whay DCUO went F2P because they new they could not compete against the hardcore experience of cryptic.

1 MMO to rule them, 1 Genre to find them, 1 server to bring them all and in tights we bind them!

Very funny conclusion to the thread!  I have a CO lifetime sub and I am still playing a lot, possibly due to my having RL friends who also like the game.  I understand that a lot of people were disappointed by the game, but hopefully Cryptic will keep pushing updates and polish so that before your 6 months is over you might have a reason to come back.

Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.

    Microsoft
    Wal Mart
    McDonalds
    Google
    The United States

Apple is climbing up my list these days as well.

I was also hoping CO would be fun, but I didn't bother with it. Heard it was just another solo quest grind.
