I remember in EQ1, my wife played a female half-elf warrior. She and I used to group quite a bit, but sometimes I would play my main character and she would group with others (my main was much higher in level).

There was this one guy who always seemed to be online when she was. He never failed to send her tells at every opportunity. He'd seek her out where ever she was. Of course, my wife is not one to ignore people or be mean, and this guy just kept taking advantage of that. I told her to just go anonymous, but she wanted her level and stuff to be known so people would know they could group with her. The idea of putting him on ignore was not one she liked either, just because she isn't rude like that. But this guy was relentless. It got worse and worse until he was actually proposing to meet her in real life and talking to her very inappropriately and such.

Finally, I had to step in, much to the chagrin of my wife. I told the guy in not so friendly words that he needs to back the ____ off... He finally did (especially after learning we are in the same room), but the whole experience, I fear, poisoned my wife against MMORPGs, which to-date I haven't been able to repair. Perhaps I shouldn't have stepped in--believe me that's the last thing I tried--but if I hadn't it might have ruined her on them anyway... and probably have been much worse for her.

So thanks to a-holes that think MMORPGs are some personal meat-market, I don't get to play these games with my wife anymore. One might say I find satisfaction when I hear the pathetic accusations ingame when some horny lech finds out those polygon boobies are backed up by some sausage... Oh yeah. ::::23::

Also that analogy of how males played female characters back in the days is the most RETARDED and ignorant analogy I have ever seen. The reason males played females were because they HAD TO! Back then females were thought of as inferior and were lower than men. So they were not entitled to become actors or have any part of the drama field. How many men do you see "roleplaying" as females today?! Yea that's I thought. Because now we know females are just as equal as males and are allowed to become actresses. Making it unnecessary for men to HAVE TO act as females. A better real life analogy would be a cross dresser. A cross dresser who takes advantage of males because males give items to them.

If I give an item to someone its because we've become friends (guy or girl) through grouping or guild. I mean would you really degrade yourself to act like a pussy to get POS items? "How you doing? Can I get some items please???image" I mean isn't that acting like Namja ? Also you're saying that as a female its easier to get into guilds and what not. But I say by doing so you're stating that you arn't good enough to get into a top guild as a male. Think about it. IF you can get into the guild as a male, then that makes the whole reason of playing a female to get into a guild void. So basically your so stupid and don't know how to play so you need an edge as a female to get into the guild. And I think everyone is taking advantage of those 1% perverts that go all out for female characters. You say people help, protect, buff females more? I say I give buffs and help anyone who asks me nicely. I don't think that 1% is enough for me to act like Namja. Male assasin would be just as powerful as a female assasin and kill the leader.

That's got to be the stupidest pile of shit I've ever seen dribble out of someones mouth.

You seem to have a raging case of homophobia there, sparky. Might want to get that looked at.

I'm curious, though. how do you know what items a guy acting like a chick gets typically without having tried that tack yourself?

OK, and if you are a warrior, be a warrior. If you are an elf, play an elf, if you are a magic user, play a magic user...

Funny, without roleplaying, the only characters in the game will be human nerds.

I sell stuff to merchants, or hand it down within the guild. I don't have time to play grabass trying to sell loot off to people.

And no, anybody, female in real life or otherwise, approaching me in that fashion would get a very cold reception. I play MMOG's to make shit dead, be it mobs or other players. If I want sex, I get it in the real world.

Can I get a show of hands of how many perverts give items to females because they are females. Theres a difference between generosity which means you would give them something regardless of gender.

Everybody is different. I tend to help out anybody I run into. Unless of course I am role playing a character who would not do such a thing.

And I see that a guy who wants to help a girl in the game is a pervert in your mind... Why is this?

You seem to like the words pervert and faggot quite a bit. Do you have some fixation we should all know about?

"If this is too difficult a question for anyone to answer (the best I've gotten out of anyone so far is "because it's cool" - not incredibly revealing) then just admit it."

Why do you choose one race over the other?  Sure, there are some statistical reasons, but I think most people try to create a "cool" character that they can see themselves having fun playing.  Is someone less of a man when they think that a female character is cool?  Am I less of a man for thinking that Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill is cool?

"Because it's cool" is a good enough reason for creating a character.

"Again, you just don't know. Poeple will just give you stuff. Don't even have to ask most of the time. Walk up say "I need a SOW". They cast it, no questions asked. "Can I get a heal" and it happens. I don't flirt or act like a girl. Don't even have to try. You just don't know how easy it is until you have tried. I had a much harder time RolePlaying a Male Ogre than a elven female."

You "roleplay" a female but you say you don't act like a "female." WTF so are you roleplaying or not? If you claim to roleplay as a female you have to ACT like one don't you?! And you know what I meant by faggot. A male character IN REAL LIFE playing a female character flirting with male characters in real life!

Take a freaking poll!!!! 75%?! Cmon now. Even Coldmeat said he wouldn't. That's worse than my 1% assumption.

I can role play a female without calling men, honey, or flirting with them. Is that all you see women do around you in real life?

I act no differently than I would playing a male character. Just talk like a normal person. I never bring sexuality into it. Some guys do, and I am not against that, if it is what they want to do. I don't. Just being a female toon is enough most of the time.

And as far as the percentage thing goes. All I can say to you is... try it. You will be amazed. I was the first time I did it. I will say that 75% of the guys I ask something from will give me something. If I ask for a heal or a buff, 75% chance I get it from the person I ask for it from. I am not saying 75% of all players give me stuff, 75% of all players I ask.

I come out of Qeynos, see all the people standing around the entrance, pick an obvious high level shaman and directly ask them.

"Hey, can I get a SOW" and get it most of the time. In fact, if I say it so everybody can hear, I will usually get the SOW I ask for and a few other buffs from others also standing around.

Sure, this also happens when playing a male character sometimes, but a LOT more often as a female character.

That's a great point Knoxay. I have to say though society looks down upon cross-dressing much like how the gaming community looks down upon cross-gender. It's just not appropriate. I'm not saying that I know what the gaming community thinks but thats what I assume. I mean its like talking to a girl in real life. You guys become friends you give her items. But then she turns around and says, "Oh I'm a guy." I'd be ready to knock some heads off. In the same sense I would get aggravated if I found out I was talking to a guy when I thought I was talking to a girl. Not in the sense of I'm trying to hit on females in game cuz I got a life and a girlfriend. But you know that more polite and nice tone you talk to females rather than males.

lmao image this is a great thread! i'm just wondering... if i'm a chick and i play a chick... and don't get crap handed to me or hit on... but my (guy) fiancee can play a chick and get tons of crap handed to him (without begging) and get hit on all the time by guys... what's that mean? image

    i don't call people 'hun'

    i don't ask for stuff

i don't flirt (except i do this massively to my fiancee when we play together - depends on if he gets me killed or not)

i don't act like i have no clue what i'm doing (which a lot RL chicks do a LOT)

i help anyone, if it's a guy or a chick character

maybe they all think i'm a guy... LOL

Perhaps it's my innate paranoia, but when I went into a cantina in SWG, I bet I could point out the mangina's with about 95% accuracy. The real female gamers were either playing male characters to avoid harrasment, or where the ones that were clothed. All those naked females dancing? Guys. and most likely afk at that.

All the women I've played with online mirrored pretty much what Aeryith said. They just acted like normal people. They didn't want handouts or special treatment. They just wanted to play the game and have fun without having to deal with the usual real life crap.

I'm ignorant? How about you take a look at the view of a male who dislikes cross genders. Let's say I give items and buffs preferably to females because males are assumeably more polite and nice to females. So I do all these nice things but only to find out you're not? You just lied to me by you're identity. No I'm not saying I'm a male wizard in real life but on the gender note and gender only not classes. Almost everyone assumes that you are the gender you play. After reading these post I might think twice about being nice to a female just because shes a female. Let people know that you are a male playing a female and people will dislike you. Because in truth the people who think its ok to cross-gender in game is considerably less than the people. You don't believe me? Just go ingame and let everyone know before they buff you. See if anyone will offer a hand. And get mad tells flaming you. Because its not appropriate to society.

"Almost everyone assumes that you are the gender you play."

THAT is the root of the problem.  Not the people that play characters of the opposite sex.

  • TaskyZZTaskyZZ Member Posts: 1,476

But they are buffing the character, not the real life player... So, why should it matter to the guy giving the buff?

It is their male wizard, buffing my female assassin.

I tell you what, before they start sending me real life buffs, I will let them know I am male...

Sorry BigPeeler I didn't see your first post in this forum. I totally agree. Let me and others know that you're a male playing a female IRL and you can roleplay all you want afterwards. I mean if it's fun that way you can. Just don't display yourself as a female taking advantage of our male weaknesses. image

I tell you what. If you ask, I won't lie. How is that?

Some people just take it too seriously, that is the problem. Quit hoping you will have sex with every female character that runs by, and the problem goes away. It is a game...

Male weakness as in giving items and extra buffs. What moron thinks hes gonna get some from being nice to someone they don't even know on the INTERNET. Males are in general more nice to girls.

lol how is that an argument?

"Let's say I give items and buffs preferably to females because males are assumeably more polite and nice to females. So I do all these nice things but only to find out you're not? You just lied to me by you're identity"

lol no, you just simply made a bad homophobic assumption that all males play males and females play females when that couldnt be anywhere near the truth... who's to blame for that? YOU...

"Almost everyone assumes that you are the gender you play."

pffft, how many MMORPG's have YOU played... if you assume that you deserve to be scammed by crossdressers...

"Let people know that you are a male playing a female and people will dislike you."

as i've stated before... every single time i play female (which still isnt very often) i make damn sure everybody knows im really a male... the only people that have ever had problems with it are blatent homophobes...

"Because in truth the people who think its ok to cross-gender in game is considerably less than the people. You don't believe me? Just go ingame and let everyone know before they buff you. See if anyone will offer a hand. And get mad tells flaming you."

read above statement... in the MANY years i have played MMORPG's with the many female characters i have played, i have rarely had the problem with "mad tells flaming me"... once again, the only people i have ever had problems with on a female character are closed minded, blatent homophobes (among other things *cough*racist*cough [no offense])

"Because its not appropriate to society."

once again showing you're a homophobe... thanks for proving my point...
