Will you quit World of Warcraft for Aion?

MysteryBMysteryB Member UncommonPosts: 355

Hey guys I know there are alot of posts out there about this subject, but many of them are just ppl defending one or the other, this thread is just so you can say If you will convert and why. Ill list a couple pros and cons of both games, I for one quit WoW out of boredom, but im getting my entire guild of 200 people from Maelstrom server to convert to Aion, atleast 100 have it pre ordered at the moment

World of Warcraft

Pros:          • Massive Popularity/Community

                    • Fun for most levels

                    • Good PvP

                    • Addicting

                    • Great Backstory

Cons:         • Life Consuming

                    • Boring if played to much

                    • Wrath of the Lich King made leveling to hard for casual players and to easy for hardcore players

                    • The alliance and horde are very unbalanced depending on the server.

                    • No communication with the other faction

                    • Support takes 1-2 days to help with anything

                    • Armor looks bad up until the 40s or so

                    • Battle animations are repetative and bland

                    • Quests are repetative, most not intresting

Aion

Pros:          • Graphically Amazing

                    • Combat is Eye Catching

                    • Leveling is easy at first to get into it, than gets to be hard, but stays fun

                   • Armor looks great even at lower levels

                   • Character creation Is amazing, virtually limitless

                  • Enviroments are interactive, catching fish in a pond, putting an umbrella on to block rain, etc.

                  • In game cutscenes for alot of the quests, makes them intresting

                  • Great Backstory

                   • Great graphics but can be played on lower graphics cards well, down to a nvidia 5500

Cons:       • Cultured more towards asian countries, could hurt american and european population

                  • NCsoft has not had the best track record with keeping population (city of heroes for instance)

                  • Lack of american OPEN beta

                  • Lack of races might seem as a con to WoW players

Hm...I quit WoW because it is a gear treadmill full of obnoxious, immature assholes.  Playing Aion is just a plus at this point.

When there's a free trial (or at least an open beta) for Aion, I'll see if it's worth playing.

My reasons for quitting WoW have to do with WoW, not with Aion.

No and no I dont play either happy were im at.

I quit wow and cancelled Aion Preorder ... no matter how you look at it, they are pretty similar.

When you enjoy one, you will enjoy the other. When you're tired of one, you will be tired of the other.

Many of WoW players want to quit for Aion because of WoW community but if majority of them move to Aion nothing will change in this matter....

  • -Zeno--Zeno- Member CommonPosts: 1,298

I would quit Shadowbane and UO to play Darkfall.

    Does it really matter?

I tried grouping several times for the elite camps in Aion ..... 4 out of 5 times i felt i was playing in a WoW pug ....

I don't play World of WarCraft—never have unless you count the closed beta and a 10-day trial—and I won't play Aion, but I sure do hope that it puts a substantial drain on World of WarCraft's numbers. I'm not a great fan of either, but WoW's dominance is the definition of undeserved.

im leaving WoW for aion. but because it's a bad game but because it doesnt suit me. i want more open world pvp and at least on my server in WoW you have to get lucky to get 5 people fighting outside a BG. and the whole neverending grind for gear gets boing after a while seeing as i dont enjoy pve much

"just got full T8.5?, well guess what... go grind for T9 now!" "but wait... i just got done grinding. cant you let me just have fun for a while without everything being a chore?" "NO!"

killed 10 000 mobs while leveling, i dont need to be killing just bigger ones endgame :P

My good man, ALL Games are life consuming...

Anywho, i don't think Aion'll be that great, waiting for ToR.

I went back to wow for about 4 months but then realized once more that it really isn't the game for me.  I've been gone from it for the past 2.5 months now and I'm never going back.  I've had the chance to play Aion and I'm not sure if I want to get into it either.  I'm just going to wait till it launches here in North America and see where it goes from there.  As it stands now I could really go either way with Aion.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

    Quit WoW long ago~

Currently Play EvE Online and FFXI occasionally

    So waiting for Aion.

  • Sorry I just have to comment on this.

Life consumin can be said about every mmorpg, also every thing you do becomes boring if you do it to much, pointless to mention.

And by no means is the leveling TO HARD to casual players, no nay never, it has NEVER been easier, it is the easiest mmrogp to lvl PERIODE, either you are ultra casual or ultra hardcore.

And yes the support sucks, the petition time takes many days, and mailing blizzard takes weeks. Makes you wonder what they spend all their money on.

Having played a bit in the beta, I really can't say that Aion is much different than WoW, or EQ2, or *insert-fantasy-MMO-here*.  It has nice asian music.  The graphics are better than WoW, but not as good as LOTRO.  The combat is the same old, same old.  The quests are the same tired variations on "fetch me a spoon", and "kill 12 swamp rats".  The story is more interesting, but the gameplay overshadows it so it feels more incidental.

Of recent games, only Age of Conan offered a refreshing change to combat.  I would probably still be playing it, if it had been finished, and if my computer were a bit beefier (PvP at 5fps is not fun).

For sheer enjoyment, I actually like what they've turned EQ2 into.  Nice looking, polished, decent storyline, same-old combat mechanics, but enough variations to keep it interesting.  LOTRO looks very nice too, but I haven't dug into it enough to tell.  I play WoW because it's a way to keep in touch with friends I don't get to see in person very often.

That last point is why it'll be extremely hard for ANY game to "kill" WoW.  Building a better game isn't the hard part, getting a critical mass of people's friends and families to switch en-masse, that's hard.

    Well said.

So that also goes for blizzards constant recycling of old content and constantly repeating mind numbing gear grinds for both PvE and PvP. A game that plays similar might burn you out, but a game with a new atmosphere might keep you around.

i quit wow when burning crusade came out, still looking for another good fantasy game to hold me for a long time, aoc was good a few months ago but the tier 2 raids were broken so i lost interest.

  • TaiphozTaiphoz Member UncommonPosts: 353

I left just after Burning Crusade, after being one of the first to max level on my server, then came back again in time for wrath, again to be one of the first to hit 80, and then left again.

This time I will not be going back, I like you have been waiting for a new mmo, but Aion looks a bit heavy for my machine to run, so I will wait for jumpgate Evolution. thats gona be my main MMO.

I thnk many people will try AION since they do not know the game so they are probably hold 2 games at same time for a short period.

In most game shops, AION is nr 1 preorder game.

In my opinion, AION is not that good game because the online market is thirsty for mmorpg, especially games like Warhammer and AOC really ruin the global market.

People are starving without good game to make their life better so they just pick any food they can eat. But I think the PVP in AION could be fun also because Korean Pennisula still at war. For $15/month then I need to think about if it is worth the money.

  • KalmporosKalmporos Member UncommonPosts: 293

I wont quit WoW for Aion.

I did quit wow when I saw 3.2 and since wow doesnt please me anymore I'll try Aion hoping it will bring back the glorious days of DAoC since WAR failed to do so.

  • FearGXFearGX Member Posts: 317

I already have, Played WoW since 2005 and am just over the whole concept of WoW now.

Aion looks absolutely awesome, can't wait for Sep 23rd (Australian release).

    World of Warcraft
Pros:          • Massive Popularity/Community - For some, I personally do not play games because they are popular, but some certainly do.
                        • Fun for most levels - Subjective, but yeah, it can be fun, but it can also get very tedious
                        • Good PvP - Subjective Aion has different type of PvP that appeal to many other players. See there are quite a few post where many top WoW PvP players are moving to Aion. Arguably, the good PvP in WoW is only found in Arenas. The rest is mediocre at best.
                        • Addicting - Same can be said about most MMOs with DikuMUD scavenger type of gameplay. Diablo 2 also was addicting. People still also play that game.

                        • Great Backstory - Also very lame. I lost my interest around TBC with the introduction of Draenei, but sure there are many who seem to like it regardless how much Blizzard seem to fuck up with their old lore - well it is known that some people (if not most) are easily amused. Backstory is not Blizzard's strong suits, nor is it NCsofts.

Cons:         • Life Consuming - All MMOs are, Aion included.
                        • Boring if played to much - Every game is if played too much.
                        • Wrath of the Lich King made leveling to hard for casual players and to easy for hardcore players - Sorry, I just do not see this. It has always been relatively easy. Albeit slightly harder in classic before all the nerfs.
                        • The alliance and horde are very unbalanced depending on the server. - doesn't really matter there is no open world PvP, they should fix the battlegroups instead.
                        • No communication with the other faction - not needed since there is no need for diplomacy in this game, which is the key aspect in most open world PvP games. Instances/battlegroups do not require it. Plus soon you will be able to roll a herald alt on the other faction even on PvP server.
                        • Support takes 1-2 days to help with anything - never needed support so cant comment
                        • Armor looks bad up until the 40s or so - subjective. I never really liked how the armors looked in WoW. Not even the top tier ones. There were few good sets and those are from vanilla WoW.
                        • Battle animations are repetative and bland - same with most MMOs. WoW has pretty smooth animations and reaction times making it the best MMO in that regard. Better than Aion in fact.

                        • Quests are repetative, most not intresting - build around Diable 2 mentality, most people do not care what the quests are about as long as the carrot is dingled in front of them. Aion has equally unimpresive quests.

    Aion
Pros:          • Graphically Amazing - subjective. I think the engine for mass PvP is the best in the market, but graphics themselves are either liked or disliked, I would not rate them as "amazing"
                        • Combat is Eye Catching - not sure what you mean. Yes, in the Abyss with flight as a tactical option, combat does look pretty nice from the distance. Also mass PvP really does seem great.
                        • Leveling is easy at first to get into it, than gets to be hard, but stays fun
                       • Armor looks great even at lower levels - well not in my opinion. The plus is that you can customize it with dye and keep a look from older items.
                       • Character creation Is amazing, virtually limitless - I also have some problems with it. Too much choice is not always good. Height issue for example is one of those.
                      • Enviroments are interactive, catching fish in a pond, putting an umbrella on to block rain, etc. - again environment are no more or less interactive than in WoW. Check what interactive means.
                      • In game cutscenes for alot of the quests, makes them intresting - cut scenes so far have been mediocre at the best.
                      • Great Backstory - Again like with WoW it is superficial at the best. Sure it is slightly different from Orcs and Elves, but it is still rather bland.

You do know that for many players the PvPvE is the reason to give Aion a host. The concept promises a pretty good environment for open world PvP, which is almost non-existent in WoW. Competing for world bosses, fortresses and relics in a dynamic world is a lot more fun for some than instance-gear fest. Yes, both games have a gear aspect, but Aion does seem to have similar qualities like EQ1 and even vanilla WoW had.

Aion either succeeds or fails (relative subscription numbers) in NA/EU based on how good PvP and PvPvE is. However, it will not make a huge dent on WoW or gain similar popularity. Most casual WoW players only like consensual PvP.

No, I quit WoW for single player games, actually all MMOs for that matter.

And boy was that the greatest decision I ever made...=D

  • Dilir79Dilir79 Member Posts: 64

Hehe this is a good question anyhow, i'm not playing wow anymore i quit  b4 TBC , grind my ass off for High Warlord then arenas/resilence came around  and i LOL at all this content for wow.

I try Aion for  2 weekends  of the CB and to be honest its  just freaking WoW all over again man , just w/pretty graphics  and thats it, i personally think  this AION its gonna be just like WAR , people its gonna hit it hard for 2-3 months then they gonna realize it' s the same WoW again, but only time will tell.

  • lornphoenixlornphoenix Member Posts: 993

I didn't quit WoW because of Aion. I quit WoW because I had gotten bored of it after 4 years of play.

Aion is just going keep me from going back to WoW, because it something different without being too different.
