Anywho, i don't think Aion'll be that great, waiting for ToR.
Oh, the irony.
Speaking for myself, not going to be playing Aion because of game guard. Not resubbing to WoW, either. Right now, it looks like I'll be playing nothing when my time on Warhammer runs out.
"" Voice acting isn't an RPG element....it's just a production value." - grumpymel2
Of course!! I dont play WoW anymore but if I did I'd leave in a heartbeat. WoW is old news to me....You only live one so I don't plan to play a 5+ year old MMO if I can help it. Its more fun to stay up to date and enjoy the excitement of a brand new MMO.
Not sure if I'll get Aion just yet as soon as it hits the stores but I'll defiently get it at some point down the road.
I quite WOW for a much better game that being Vanguard Saga of Heroes.... I am currently not playing anything since i left WAR a month ago... and am waiting for Aion.. Which I have played the CB sessions and really enjoyed it.. If it doesnt turn out like I hope I will be re checking out AoC
I look at it this way, its a whole new theme park mmorpg for us, alot are calling it Lineage 2.5. I wasnt much of a fan of Lineage, but at least I tried it. I assume it will be better.
Anyways, the game should be very successful with all the burned out WoW players wanting to try something new.
There is no doubt I will check it out, I just don't know when I will get in the mood for another theme park mmo despite the hype. Unless all my friends decide to jump ship on what they are playing and go to this.
Any mmorpg can be fun, if you got your gaming pals to play with. However I wouldnt go alone in this game, I just dont see the fun playing solo in a game like this.
I think I enjoyed WoW in the days, because of the friends I went in with and the guild I joined. Only a few of my friends still play WoW, maybe thats why I never truly went back to it.
Originally posted by Elesthor I dont think Cataclysm is copying AIon. While Im terribly bored and dissapointed of the 2009 WoW and Im planning to play Aion I dont think how Blizzard is copying it. I see people complaining about Aion quests. I have two things to say to you people. First remember the original WoWs quests, pretty similar huh? Second and most important, Aion is not about questing. Quests are there to provide an alternative to the traditional asian grinding. You dont like grinding? Fine, do some quest! Aion is mainly about PvP and it nicely blends PvP with PvE (what they call PvPvE). It's not a PvP game when you have to do PvE for half the game before the PvP is available. Cataclysm PvP-wise was the same old <@#$%>. More Arenas , more BGs ... aka instanced, controlled e-sport PvP. Aion offers Open PvP with capturable fortresses etc. WoW currently offers and open PvP zone and two Battlrgrounds with siege and capture mechanics. If you have not seen Isle of Conquest, you should. My beef with the Siege BGs is that they are only open to high level characters. Limited selection for BGs is a major flaw in WoW's PvP. PvE-wise Aion is not even close to WoW. Its at very basic stages yet and while there is a lot of content with many high-lvl /endgame dungeons the battles are not so complicated and only a few times are something more than tank and spank. On the other hand its extremely Polished and offers nice features like timed runs where the end boss is different depending on what rank you scored , or a typical PvE dungeon where both factions are trying to reach the end-boss and kill it while fighting eachother and more. Have you actually played these special dungeons, or are you just pasting ad copy here?

I have quit wow, and happen to be going to Aion. The game I want to play most of all is Jumpgate, but that game seems to have been sent back to the drawing board.
Aion didnt make me quit WoW, WoW made me quit WoW. Ive been playing it to long and it feels like more of a job with all the daily quests and people's expectations for your gear and preformance. Nothing against the game, it was alot of fun while it lasted, but i want a game with more of a pvp focus and Aion seems to be what im looking for at the moment.
I myself quitted WoW, but I won't playing AION either.
Also, no character creator is giving you almost limitless possibilities. The closed thing would be Spore, if you could use those as characters. I mean, 99% of everything you can create with all character creators looks like a super-model, no matter what buttons you press. As long as priests look like bodybuilders and potion-brewing witches like 18 year old models suffering anorexia: Boredom incarnate.

It's a PvP game when 25-50 is based around PvPvE, not PvE.
There are many (myself included) who haven't been getting any real enjoyment out of WoW PvP because of class balance issues, gameplay mechanics, and I'm sure a slew of other reasons. The fortresses in the Abyss as well as the structure of the Abyss in general with the Balaur and wandering raid bosses is a great change from WoW-style PvP.
The endgame is unique, and I will absolutely give you a copy-paste style answer to your retort because that's all it deserves.
- This will be a new approach compared to the traditional WoW-style instances. The first type of instance is an arcade instance. It's focus is going to be strategic group play to kill the boss as soon as possible.
- Both elyos and asmodians will be able to access these instances through rifts. You'll be traveling to the region that was recently conquered by the Dragons.
- The reward will vary depending on how you decide to clear this instance under how much time. Since you'll be killing dragons, you'll be acquiring abyss points. The final boss will also very depending on your strategy, meaning your reward will vary every time.
- It's up to you if you want to go for all DPS speed run, or full party extermination going for every Named Mob in the instance. The reward is going to be items with a grade or two higher than the currently highest grade Unique items.
2. RvR battle instance. Infiltrating a Dreadgion!
- The second type instance is a battleground style instance where Elyos and Asmodians will be battling through to progress. One party from each side will be entering a Dreadgion. They can either fight through or simply try to kill the captain of the Dreadgion first. Abyss points will be amonst the many rewards from this instance. If you die in here, you'll be able to revive in a set point within the instance.
- Players will have to decide how they want to deal with the other party and how to reach the final boss faster.
- This is not a regular Dreadgion you see in fortress seiges. This is going to be a special Dreagion only enterable at specific times.
- The regular Dreadgions are still floating battleships that will drop Blue Draconic gears.
3. Battle-shugos
- This is supposed to be a fun leveling instance for people still stuck in the leveling stage of Aion. This instance will be designed like a ship with evolved Shugos that are hostile to the players. This instance is designed with casual players in mind and will contain many quests."

and for the 2nd link:
There are secret castle room spawns in the fortresses in the Abyss, allowing you to try to get a treasure chest that is on a timer that can contain Kinah, Abyss points, etc.
See, you can talk to me about all the features of Aion, talk about the mechanics and how great pvpve is all day, and it won't make a difference to me. I've canceled too many subscriptions to be bought in by that. Better have a free trial. A damn good one at that.
I don't know what you expect to get out of a free trial of any game unless you put serious time into it each day. Free trials of any game will only let you know if you can tolerate the general play style and offers no real insight onto what the real depth of the game or endgame is. You are probably often disappointed because you aren't giving games a chance, or when you do, not trying to make the most out of it by finding other people or guilds/legions to group with. The community ends up making an MMORPG great if it has decent mechanics behind it.

I'm not gonna cancel my subscription to WoW and/or uninstall it, if that's what you mean by quit. I'll keep my WoW account active and also buy Aion when it comes out and see if it's any good When the open beta comes though, if I get a chance to play it and I don't like it I'll not buy it, but if I don't play the open beta I will just buy it anyway.

Done, and done! Nothing more need be said besides what was already stated. Left WoW after raising two very prominent 80 level characters in WoTLK and then retired after the realization that it was the same old, same old. It's been months since I've been involved in any MMO (gave WAR a try and was sorely dissapointed) but I'm looking forward to Aion.
Hey guys I know there are alot of posts out there about this subject, but many of them are just ppl defending one or the other, this thread is just so you can say If you will convert and why. Ill list a couple pros and cons of both games, I for one quit WoW out of boredom, but im getting my entire guild of 200 people from Maelstrom server to convert to Aion, atleast 100 have it pre ordered at the moment
World of Warcraft Pros: • Massive Popularity/Community • Fun for most levels • Good PvP • Addicting • Great Backstory
Cons: • Life Consuming • Boring if played to much • Wrath of the Lich King made leveling to hard for casual players and to easy for hardcore players • The alliance and horde are very unbalanced depending on the server. • No communication with the other faction • Support takes 1-2 days to help with anything • Armor looks bad up until the 40s or so • Battle animations are repetative and bland • Quests are repetative, most not intresting
Aion Pros: • Graphically Amazing • Combat is Eye Catching • Leveling is easy at first to get into it, than gets to be hard, but stays fun • Armor looks great even at lower levels • Character creation Is amazing, virtually limitless • Enviroments are interactive, catching fish in a pond, putting an umbrella on to block rain, etc. • In game cutscenes for alot of the quests, makes them intresting • Great Backstory • Great graphics but can be played on lower graphics cards well, down to a nvidia 5500
Cons: • Cultured more towards asian countries, could hurt american and european population • NCsoft has not had the best track record with keeping population (city of heroes for instance) • Lack of american OPEN beta • Lack of races might seem as a con to WoW players
Gold farmers and bots all over the place. Rifting means PvP whether you are into it or not. PvPvE means if you do not wish to participate in the higher aspect of the game you're SOL. PvP consist of one team ganking the boss of the castle to hold it for 24hrs. You'll gain no benefit be keeping it under your control so it is best to let the other team take it from you every other day. Making PvP more pointless than ever.

World of Warcraft Pros: • Massive Popularity/Community • Fun for most levels • Good PvP • Addicting • Great Backstory
Cons: • Life Consuming - True of any MMORPG • Boring if played to much - Again, True of any MMORPG • Wrath of the Lich King made leveling to hard for casual players and to easy for hardcore players - Actually, leveling was made easier for casual and hardcore alike. Heirloom items are obtainable via daily quest tokens from the Argent Crusade Tournament or Emblems gained from Heroic 5 mans and Raiding. The Crusader title is by no means hardcore, just time consuming. • The alliance and horde are very unbalanced depending on the server. - This will be true for Aion, and is true for any MMORPG that has opposing factions • No communication with the other faction - True until Battle.net, still a con though • Support takes 1-2 days to help with anything - Depends on the issue, but yes this is mostly true • Armor looks bad up until the 40s or so - Very true, hopefully Cataclysm will address this somewhat. Heirloom items help to a certain extent. • Battle animations are repetative and bland - This is a matter of opinion, I like many of the animations for my characters. Male Troll Hadouken casting is just awesome. • Quests are repetative, most not intresting - True of many MMORPGs, including Aion, but again interest is a matter of opinion. Don't forget that Cataclysm is a rewrite of 1-60 leveling as well.
Aion Pros: • Graphically Amazing - Agreed 100% • Combat is Eye Catching - At first, but there are many animations I personally did not like • Leveling is easy at first to get into it, than gets to be hard, but stays fun - Meh, I didn't like it so much in Aion, but I think it has to do with my unfamiliarity with all of the quests and leveling areas. • Armor looks great even at lower levels - Agreed 100% • Character creation Is amazing, virtually limitless - Agreed 100%, should become a staple for all mmorpgs • Enviroments are interactive, catching fish in a pond, putting an umbrella on to block rain, etc. - Agreed • In game cutscenes for alot of the quests, makes them intresting - I actually would prefer less cutscenes as they break immersion for me, but they were well done. • Great Backstory - WoW has a great backstory too, but Aion is neat. Interesting how it seems to be loosely based off the War of Heaven from Christian mythos. • Great graphics but can be played on lower graphics cards well, down to a nvidia 5500 - True, I had some lag issues, but they were minor. Good for NCSoft for making the game accesible.
Cons: • Cultured more towards asian countries, could hurt american and european population - The only thing I didn't like was the character voices in combat...annoyed me to no end, felt like I was playing a fighting game. • NCsoft has not had the best track record with keeping population (city of heroes for instance) - Game quality and appeal dictates population. Many NCSoft games are very niche, Aion has a broader appeal. • Lack of american OPEN beta - Seems strange to me as well. • Lack of races might seem as a con to WoW players - This will be a point of contention. Not everyone wants to play an "elf". The races in Aion seem to be very elf-like to me, and while I don't mind playing an elf, it's not all I want to play either.
All of my responses are in red. I personally cancelled my Aion preoder because it felt like more of the same, to me. Why would I switch from WoW when my friends and guild are there? Aion just doesn't bring enough to the plate to make me switch games.
MMORPGS need a drastic change from their current state...Final Fantasy XIV in theory is at least trying to shake things up, but we'll have to see how it plays out.
The one and only reason I currently have my wow account active is the brush up on my pvp techniques before I dive into Aion. I look forward to it and to walking away from what honestly at best is a slightly above average game. Yes I played WoW since release, yes I enjoyed both leveling from beginning to end to some point, yes I enjoyed end game content over and over, yes I took part in many pvp encounters. But after all those many years, unlike when I walked away from EQ, I feel nothing.
With EQ I felt a sense of remorse, sadness, the great things that happened in EQ were heart felt and felt like real accomplishments. With WoW, they all became "achievements". And with that I will gladly sign in on opening day and recreate my character, cancel my WoW account perminately and in this new world move forward and look ahead to hopefully something good.
Side note: In no way can anyone really say it will replace or blow what wow accomplished away. It's far too soon to come off as a blow hard touting unbackable comments. Do I think it has potential vs. where WoW was at release? Definately. Time will tell how it pans out however.
Nope I will not be quitting WoW for Aion. I will be "quitting" WoW for school or another Blizzard game, as a lot of Blizzard fanbois will be doing. Unless there is a new UO or EVE I wont be touching any other MMO unless it is done by Blizzard.
I quit WoW for Warhammer, leveled to max level and while i found the PvP amazingly fun and addicting it became repetitive over time and lack of PvE ruined the game for me. I quit MMO's after War deciding to not return to WotLK. I saw Aion and played the beta and am now hooked. Hopefully Aion's PvPvE approach will give equal excitment of both aspects at end game and keep my attention. Atleast long enough untill FFXIV releases next year!!!
