Have not played Wow in ages, but you won't find me playing Aion either. Aion is just another grinder that is dressed up a bit to look more western.
You missed a major negative for Aion, NCSoft's inability to control the bot population. That can ruin a game faster than anything.
"Great graphics but can be played on lower graphics cards well, down to a nvidia 5500."
Completely wrong! One of my computers had a Nvidia 5700 in it, Aion will not play on it, tech support told me the card was too old. I replaced it with an old Nvidia 7800 I had laying around and I lagged badly in the cities. So much for not lagging much. If you have a relatively older system expect lag to be an issue.
You can spread all the disinformation about this game you like, it just is not that good once you get beyond the graphics. While the asians seems to like this game, I don't expect it will do that well on this side of the pond.

How do you know Aion is a grinder if you "couldn't" even run the game as you said in your post?
contradict yourself much?
Aion v3 "RELOADED" - A glimpse into the future of the MMO genre
Hey guys I know there are alot of posts out there about this subject, but many of them are just ppl defending one or the other, this thread is just so you can say If you will convert and why. Ill list a couple pros and cons of both games, I for one quit WoW out of boredom, but im getting my entire guild of 200 people from Maelstrom server to convert to Aion, atleast 100 have it pre ordered at the moment
World of Warcraft Pros: • Massive Popularity/Community • Fun for most levels • Good PvP • Addicting • Great Backstory
Cons: • Life Consuming - True of any MMORPG • Boring if played to much - Again, True of any MMORPG • Wrath of the Lich King made leveling to hard for casual players and to easy for hardcore players - Actually, leveling was made easier for casual and hardcore alike. Heirloom items are obtainable via daily quest tokens from the Argent Crusade Tournament or Emblems gained from Heroic 5 mans and Raiding. The Crusader title is by no means hardcore, just time consuming. • The alliance and horde are very unbalanced depending on the server. - This will be true for Aion, and is true for any MMORPG that has opposing factions • No communication with the other faction - True until Battle.net, still a con though • Support takes 1-2 days to help with anything - Depends on the issue, but yes this is mostly true • Armor looks bad up until the 40s or so - Very true, hopefully Cataclysm will address this somewhat. Heirloom items help to a certain extent. • Battle animations are repetative and bland - This is a matter of opinion, I like many of the animations for my characters. Male Troll Hadouken casting is just awesome. • Quests are repetative, most not intresting - True of many MMORPGs, including Aion, but again interest is a matter of opinion. Don't forget that Cataclysm is a rewrite of 1-60 leveling as well.
Aion Pros: • Graphically Amazing - Agreed 100% • Combat is Eye Catching - At first, but there are many animations I personally did not like • Leveling is easy at first to get into it, than gets to be hard, but stays fun - Meh, I didn't like it so much in Aion, but I think it has to do with my unfamiliarity with all of the quests and leveling areas. • Armor looks great even at lower levels - Agreed 100% • Character creation Is amazing, virtually limitless - Agreed 100%, should become a staple for all mmorpgs • Enviroments are interactive, catching fish in a pond, putting an umbrella on to block rain, etc. - Agreed • In game cutscenes for alot of the quests, makes them intresting - I actually would prefer less cutscenes as they break immersion for me, but they were well done. • Great Backstory - WoW has a great backstory too, but Aion is neat. Interesting how it seems to be loosely based off the War of Heaven from Christian mythos. • Great graphics but can be played on lower graphics cards well, down to a nvidia 5500 - True, I had some lag issues, but they were minor. Good for NCSoft for making the game accesible.
Cons: • Cultured more towards asian countries, could hurt american and european population - The only thing I didn't like was the character voices in combat...annoyed me to no end, felt like I was playing a fighting game. • NCsoft has not had the best track record with keeping population (city of heroes for instance) - Game quality and appeal dictates population. Many NCSoft games are very niche, Aion has a broader appeal. • Lack of american OPEN beta - Seems strange to me as well. • Lack of races might seem as a con to WoW players - This will be a point of contention. Not everyone wants to play an "elf". The races in Aion seem to be very elf-like to me, and while I don't mind playing an elf, it's not all I want to play either.
All of my responses are in red. I personally cancelled my Aion preoder because it felt like more of the same, to me. Why would I switch from WoW when my friends and guild are there? Aion just doesn't bring enough to the plate to make me switch games.
MMORPGS need a drastic change from their current state...Final Fantasy XIV in theory is at least trying to shake things up, but we'll have to see how it plays out.
I'm just going to comment on what I need to down here...Open beta starts September 6th.
That was all I really neeeeeded to get out of my system. I think a more PvP-focused game is what moved me over from WoW/FFXI to Aion. I will def be playing FFXIV though.
Also: I agree with Perfection's post. Ozmodan obviously didn't play and is working under some disinformation of his own. Aion is not a grinder. I played to 23 and didn't have to grind out mobs once, questing all the way.
"You can spread all the disinformation about this game you like, it just is not that good once you get beyond the graphics. While the asians seems to like this game, I don't expect it will do that well on this side of the pond."
This is entirely subjective and stating it as fact is just that - disinformation. I for one find the gameplay pretty fun, intricate, and exciting. I like the fact that there is a lot of PvE group content in the early levels. I also enjoy everything they've done with the skill chain system and PvPvE.
I don't play World of WarCraft—never have unless you count the closed beta and a 10-day trial—and I won't play Aion, but I sure do hope that it puts a substantial drain on World of WarCraft's numbers. I'm not a great fan of either, but WoW's dominance is the definition of undeserved.
It's only because they know how to advertise on TV in my opinion.......
I already quit WOW long ago because of it becoming too casual friendly hand holding crap!
WOW was an awesome game when it was first launched
Hopefully AION will give me back that feeling I got when WOW first started out.
Probably won't keep me from going back to Vanguard though.... Now that game is awesome and the only reason right now I havent given up on all MMO's for good.
If only they would learn a lesson from Blizzard they too could have 10 million players
ADVERTISE THE DAMN THING ON TV !!!!!
Good Lord !
It's not that hard of a concept .......................

You really miss one major difference between the 2 games at a fairly fundamental level:
WoW = PvE that offers PvP.
Aion = PvP that offers PvE.
Aion is being designed from the ground up as a PvP game. The PvE side will be there and fleshed out but it will be "the extra" to the PvP side. That is not stated quite so bluntly in their documentation but that *IS* stated across the interviews with their developers from the earliest ones they did.
"encouraged to go ..." "best rewards in ..." "benefits for ..." "you can do just PvE but ..." etc., etc., etc.
You are introduced for a brief run to get familiar with the basic controls then "encouraged" to go to the PvP areas to continue progression.
That is a difference in starting focus and intended design that seems to be missing from most statements on Aion.

Incorrect. You can't PvP from L1, and you don't get xp from PvP. That's NOT a PvP game.
You can duel from lvl 1 so I suppose you "can" do pvp until it picks up at lvl 20 or so.
And yes you will be able to get xp from pvp. Not a huge amount but you will get it. It's already implemented in chinese Aion and will be in the game on relase with version is 1.5.
Besides, in Lineage 2 (a pvp game) you don't get xp from pvp either. So I'm not sure that is an actual definition for a pvp game or just your definition for a pvp game.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Get over it: in WOW you can level through PvP even and jump from PvP spec to PVE with pushing one button.
And with a possible 80.000 concurrent players now on line to choose to do dungeons with....
I think current active WOW players are not going to leave their game for any new mmo.
Perhaps trying out yes, but leaving Blizzard with these new features and a complete new Azeroth on line.
No chance.
I am an active wow player and I am sure gonna leave wow.
And yes, i raid regularly, I have a good guild (thats also migrating btw) and i am active.
But its not the new Azeroth thats gonna keep me, i mean, I am lvl 80 in 5 characters, whats it gonna bring to me? Another round of raids with copy pasted fights and just 1 or 2 new things? An old continent with 7 new zones, being 4 of them starting areas. I am lvl 80 already, what am I gonna do with old zones revamped.... im not gonna level another alt for god sake, i want content for my lvl, 80, and 3 new zones and 2 or 3 raids are not enough to keep me for yet another 2 years.
Flying mounts in Azeroth, great, its good offcourse, but that doesnt change the gameplay..... a Secondary profession? What the hell, why not a primary one, give us a mean to make bows and staves, a woodworking profession why not.

Did you even read the above about the new WOW ? Multi clustered servers for dungeons .....
- You play dungeons with 80.000 possible concurrent users. --- > win/win. You log in and hop you are into GROUP play.
- You can now fully level through pvp ----> win/win. You log you do pvp and hop you can jump to pve (with one button PvP/PvE/spec/gear. And .... RATED Battlegrounds (of course multiclustered).
- There is a whole new open world PvP zone with multiple objectives. Instead of 1 castle siege, you'll have 5 sieges spread out.
- The new and redone Azeroth with new quests is comparable to WOW 2004, BUT with all the features of 2009 and add some more.
PvP and PVE in WOW as of patch 3.3 means simply playing with a possible 80K people ALWAYS on line.
Have you ANY idea what that means ...
)))
What does that have anything to do with coming back for the expasnion for new content? You can already lvl with pvp now in 3.2, and we already have a pvp zone with 1 so the mechanic is the same.
How the hell does 80k ppl change anything to an expasnion new features?
Aion: 400K/500K at launch. One month after 200K/250, 6 months later 150K, because it won't hold out against Lotro on the long run (no known western Lore) and then s l o w l y dying like Aoc and War. It is the painful truth of any new mmorpg that needs to be paid for with 180 dollars for western (!) subscriptions a year. Are numbers important? Of course because with the new system that WOW will be using (clustered servers for doing dungeons AND PvP), you will need at least 50.000 CONCURRENT people on line to play with to even have a competitive product. Only EVE comes in the neigbourhood. The rest dies because of lack of players and oxygene six months after launch. Only LotrO holds out because of its Lore.
While I certainly don't think its going to rival WoW I don't see Aion going the same route as AoC or Warhammer. Mainly because the game is in much better condition than those other games were at launch time and also far as I can see unlike those two games Aion's system isn't broken or inherently flawed. Now if it comes to pass that they do have the same issues as those other two games then yes it will suffer the same fate but from everything I've seen and played it isn't.
Rings lore does give it a niche market but so does the fact their game was so polished that they didn't send people off in droves or anger people to the point where they might quit for some time but not have issues with resubbing later plus they play a lot towards those that like to rp compared to some other games that ignore that crowd. Not to mention the fact they had such a polished launch compared to some that it allowed them the ability to work on updates more so they did a fairly decent job at adding content which is another reason they haven't suffered the same fate. Again, I'm not saying the lore doesn't play a factor but to say that's the only reason it has survived while others dwindle away is rather shortighted in my opinion.
No game unless it is absolutely revolutionary is going to rival WoW though if for no other reason than because at the least it will never be able to compete content wise due to how long at this point WoW has been around which is one point I think we would both agree on...at least not any game any time soon.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

That was good stuff right there.
Why does it matter to you if people will leave WoW?
Besides people have already left in droves many times over. It takes MMOs a long time to die. You will have your precious WoW for many years to come.
It was a good game and its old and Im bored of it like many of the people commenting on this thread. Or did you not read the thread?
Besides the new content isnt new, its rehashed. Nothing is really changing with the game. Its a fine game and cataclysm what offers a few more features?

Hurts, doesnt it?
BUT BUT !?! XFIRE! ZOMG.... haha it's fun to watch Zorndorf squiggle like the worm that he is.
Why do folks who play WoW "FEEL" the need to post how WoW is the greatest game ever and how we cant even think of leaving?
What does it matter to them?
If WoW was so fun, why the fk arent they playing it instead of knocking other games on these forums?
Are you WoW fanbois Shills for Blizzard?
DO you get paid to bash absolutely anything that poses any threat to WoW?
I am contrary to popular opinion NOT a WoW hater. I still play it for the time being and have played off and on (more on than off) since release.
WoW is, as a whole, a Great game. Lot of fun.
Not perfect.
Pvp was an afterthought. Fanbois dont tell me different as I was there Not as good as fun as DAOCs RvR. Not the best pve encounters. Not the best graphics. Not even close to original in concept.
But all the things it did right combined to make it a great game. A game that Ive enjoyed for more than 4 years.
This isnt a marriage and for me at least its time to say goodbye.
I crave for a different, new MMORPG that will hook me to it, but AION just isn't what I need.
I could not stand (in closed beta) the asian all-to-familiar models, "heroic" poses, fancy "flowery" surroundings, same funny-retarded female running animations like in Lineage (don't tell me you really like those), "sad-sugary" music, and above all the "PRETTINESS" of characters that almost make me puke of EMO-ism.
There, I said it, I REALLY don't like Aion. Sue me.
I have not had the chance to try Aion as of yet, I cancelled the walk me by hand WoW months ago. I think its time Blizzard polished off their other MMo and release it so they can finally put WoW into the pasture. Aion will of course take alot of their players with alot returning. In the Asian market where WoW does great, I think it will take a beating by Aion. here in NA not so much since most here are not eager for change. When I see the subscriber numbers for WoW I instantly think it was published by the current US Gov administration, everyone knows the numbers are cook but they keep fabricating them thinkong people actully beiieve them. Whether you play f2p or sub based, play what you want not what others are.
Recently quit wow, will play Aion, did not quit Wow because of Aion. I've been trying to "escape" wow for a long time since I don't like the direction it took at TBC.

Sheesh!
Will i quit wow for Aion?
I left for champions online, though i will still be giving aion a go eventually

Incorrect. You can't PvP from L1, and you don't get xp from PvP. That's NOT a PvP game.

QFT.
I already canceled my sub. Me and 4 other people plan to move to Aion until ToR releases.
and yet another useless post about comparing 1 game to the other.
what the hell is WoW any ways ?

Have you ANY idea what that means ...
)))
What does that have anything to do with coming back for the expasnion for new content? You can already lvl with pvp now in 3.2, and we already have a pvp zone with 1 so the mechanic is the same.
How the hell does 80k ppl change anything to an expasnion new features?
Well finally, Im glad you admited the game content is stale and the only reason to come is "because the game has loads of ppl to play with".
Thats nice, but thats not reason to play a game in my book.... besides, i never had trouble to find groups or pvp partners/rivals in any other game

If those things make you cancel your sub, what are you hoping for in Aion that will be so different?

At most I'm hoping for a new atmosphere. To much to ask?
Too little.

/yawn

BUT BUT !?! XFIRE! ZOMG.... haha it's fun to watch Zorndorf squiggle like the worm that he is.
Really, you know what I want to know?
Fanbois dont tell me different as I was there
Not as good as fun as DAOCs RvR.
Sue me.
NEW IDEAS that can refresh the STALE state of MMORPGs
