For all the sandbox fans reading this stay away from the game in his sig.

I know little of the game in his sig. Can't comment on that.

I'm just really enjoying DF the way you are. I really can't stand magic, but understand it's place in a fantasy game. I'm also happy another EVE player (assuming by your avatar) has found another nice game. When I need a break from my lovely Minmatar ships, DF seems to be a comfortable alternative.

Back to archery for my butt.

"Waaaah! Waaaah! Darkfall doesn't have half the features of this game in ALPHA, so I'm going to advise all sandbox fans to stay away from it! WAAAAH!"

And, yes, the difference between it levelled up is not HUGELY significant, but it's still a big enough difference to make it worth levelling up. Less QQ because you're getting beaten in PvP with people with it, and moar pewpew because you're levelling it up!

Why level them up? Why not level them up? You're still giving yourself a combat advantage over your opponent and so, in the long run, the only real way to play the game is to level up everything, as you would not be able to compete otherwise.

False. I'm stopping with magic at Fire magic and Necro. If you want to be a compotent mage you really only need 1 maxed magic school unless your aim is so terrible that you need more AoE/High end nukes. Does haveing more high end nukes/aoes make the game easier, yes. Is it nesscary to compete - no.

And the game you are promoting I couldn't bother playing. I was exploring and was prevented from stepping on other people's land. WTF! I can honestly say if that one "feature" were removed I'd probably be able to tolerate the game because you can litterally build thngs and shape the world as much as you want, which is mainly possible becuase the graphics are really low, but thankfully I will be able to get that in MO. So I'll get my PvP siege fix in DFO and my fluffy RP carebare crap in MO. Win win.

So, you admit it makes the game easier?

    [A]dventure -> C[r]iminal Acts

If you didn't do that, you'd be able to walk all over other people's terrain accidentally, leaving trespassing smells, which allows people to hunt you down. Stealing / battery / murder smells also allow people to summon you to your hearthfire, to kill you whilst you're offline. But, they ALSO leave a murder smell, which usually leads to a massive blood feud between two groups.

Possibly over a single piece of bread.

I think any list like this is better left out when proving your sandboxy point because everyone has their own list of what games represent the sandbox genre for them. For me its UO, Asheron's call and Shadowbane. While I consider none of them to be a perfect sandbox they all have entertaining aspects in them and a wide variety of freedom to choose what to do with the time you spent playing them.
PS Orriginal Poster, Darkfall while not the perfect sandbox is definitely more sandbox style mmo than themepark. So either someone needs to coin a new phrase just to describe the niche this game fills or accept that it is in fact sandboxy.

Sandbox has nothing to do with PvP, and a game that focuses on PvP to the exclusion of everything else ( Darkfall ) is definitely not a sandbox.

Seriously dude get yourself some knowledge about FF full loot PvP settings, like the poster you quoted try to tell you but you obviously not capable of understanding terms and concept.

Darth, get off your high horse and listen to the dude, for a change.

Both Romulous and Dawnsinger have a point. FFA PvP does not mean sandbox, full loot or not. PvP is just that, PvP. If you call DF PvP sandobx, then all games with PvP are sandbox. in a nutshell, sandbox means "nonlinear" or "non-scripted". To me, sandbox is when u start a game of Civilization, save it, then play through it.  Once you finish your game, load the very first save and play it again. Even if you try to do exactly same thing u did in your previous game, it will be different.

DF has sandbox elements, no levels, no preset skills. But it lacks major sandbox features like open ended quests, or ability to build player towns anywhere YOU want, or building the type of building YOU want in YOUR player city. You can't do that in DF, can you?

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

The problem I have is trying to figure out how mmorpg'ers define "sandbox". Let's be fair, everyone around seems to have their own version. It's like Urban dictionary sometimes.

In regards to the last part of your post. I think if they had of allowed city building anywhere you want this would be one hell of an improvement.

I guess you didn't read the whole posts in these topic, thats why you come to such a wrong representation of what according to you i think is sandbox.

A hint should have given you that i use the word  "settings" in FFA full loot PvP settings.

I ve not decided yet if i tell you to go read up what i write about sandbox or make the work and copy that for you.

Ok, i am generous to you :

    - cyclic repeatable processes and content instead of linear progression.

If all of that apply then we face a sandbox ..

As you can see, type and setting of PvP plays absolutely no role for me in regards to game being sandbox or not.

It just appeared others claimed the presence of FFA full loot PvP makes a game by default NO sandbox. Romolous and me had to remind someone the first MMO being sandbox and having FFA full loot PvP settings, which was UO.

About Darkfalls housing being not "sandboxy" enough for you i like to remind you the game Ryzom and Ryzoms housing (no players city buildings at all ! )

Ryzom all agree is indisputable a sandbox style game and then it offers a instanced, not placed apartment which you can't decorate and no one esle then you can enter it. Looking a Darkfall we have house placed in the world, you can decorate you can invite friends into. If there is no problem to call Ryzom a sandbox  with its housing , why should be there a problem to call Darkfall a sandbox with a so much more customizable housing then Ryzom ?

The reason for building locations are pre-set in Darkfall is that the world and environment isn't random. Every litle inch of Agon has been placed into his spot and location. If  the world offers such a world its difficult to allow you to destroy it with random placed houses / buildings.
