Originally posted by girlgeek Who said anything about CAMPING mobs being how you "earn" anything? Honestly, I myself was thinking about before the last few patches that made getting the best gear so freaking EASY. I was a raider. I had to go to Ulduar (and eventually ToC), learn the fights, and then probably go 30 times before what I wanted actually DROPPED and I actually WON the roll for it. NOW.....all you have to do is pick an easy heroic and farm it for emblems, or....if you want the BEST gear....do the daily heroic every day for a while. Heroics are so easy now, you could almost run them with your character naked. There's no challenge in that, and no sense of accomplishment when you get a "reward" for it.
I stand by my "that was a great analogy," and you're proving it with your whining "old guy" and "whippersnapper" comments. I've played new AND old MMOs, and the OLD ones definitely have something the new ones DON'T....a sense of actually "EARNING" what you got. And no....I don't mean EQ (that's an old one I didn't play) camping mobs for 8 hours. I'm talking about challenging gameplay, and time invested to acquire something "special," so that it actually was somehow meaningful (in a virtual reality sense).
The analogy sucked, because it is not representative of players today against players of old. There have always been beggars and lazy people. You see the game through the eyes of a raider and there are many people who want avenues of advancement other than raiding. I am saying this as a raidcentric player, but raiders are not the only people entitled to rewards, thus my "get off the grass" comment.
Believe it or not I agree with you that to many items are available through heroics and other tasks that are mostly time commitments instead of difficult encounters. There is always better available in the most recent raids, but I personally think blizzard is downgrading old rewards to fast. That doesn't mean people are not "earning" anything and whining about it. Farming a boss once you have beat it isn't exactly hard.
Just because there are different avenues doesn't mean people are lazy selfish ingrates for not agreeing with your views. This whole notion of whiny spoiled kids is getting to the point of ridiculous. Raid or die is, well dying. The current aspects of non-raiding advancement are not perfect, but it is a work in progress I guess. The real problem is that new raids (as you pointed out) require learning, expenses, etc and heroics do not evolve in the same manner. At the same time I will see 20x more items in a 2 hour raid than a non-raider will see in who knows how long farming.
Most of the old games sense of "earning" came through extremely limited supply, such as 4-5 times a month for the entire server and other variations of time sinks or time barriers. Almost every one of them revolved around time, not difficulty. It certainly gave the impression that something was earned, but in reality there was no more real effort put forth in the actual acts of conquest. Fighting a boss mob is still fighting a boss mob, sust the odds of winning the reward were much much less back then.
You know what I hate??. Its the whining bitches on these forums. That act like they speak for a whole playerbase, the only people that they speak for are the 200 active people on this site.
AMEN! Quit whining about the damn game and GO PLAY SOMETHING ELSE! WoW doesn't care what you think and neither does their 11mil+ subscribers, so get over it. You don't need to force it down everyone else's throat by constantly making new threads on it. You hate WoW, we've established that, MOVE ON!
so.. how is posting what you don't like about WoW any different than posting what you don't like about WAR? It seems like you don't have a problem with that...
Posting your OPINION of a game in a discussion thread about the game is one thing, but making NEW threads CONSTANTLY bitching about WoW and all its so-called faults is just getting annoying. I gave my opinion in that WarHammer thread and left it at that, I didn't start NEW threads BITCHING about it.
Because it isn't as good as Everquest was, and Everquest is now dead and so are MMORPGs that were similar to it.
There are several reasons why WoW is not a good MMORPG:
-Lack of challenging PvE content
I used to play WoW when they had 40 man content still. My guild was doing AQ40 while people on our server were stuck in newb zones like Molten Core. Clearing instances for the first time was still fun at that time.. Then the geniuses at blizzard decided to dumb down the PvE content. They made almost every instance a 25/10 man, and also made the content much easier. Almost every newbie on the server could now do any zone they wanted, but they made the game too easy for the skilled players.
Plus the expansion added solo quests that anyone could do.. The gear from solo quests, and even green items had better stats than the difficult 40 man content. It's ridiculous, they let all those horrible players catch up by making trivial expansion content with better loot than what was in instances that most guilds couldn't handle.
It was great when Naxx40 gear became useless because of soloable quests in the expansion. Good job Blizzard sell-outs handing gear out to skill-less players who couldn't even handle Molten Core content.
Maybe if their leveling system wasn't so trivial in the first place there wouldn't be the problem of 99% of endgame guilds not being able to clear newb zones like Molten Core. Their leveling system would have weeded out the bad players or at least taught them how to play by level 60, but no, leveling in WoW is an activity that takes no skill or effort. Boring
There should be some sort of progression between expansions / content release. With the expansion, it allowed complete newbies to skip over MC -> BWL -> AQ40 -> Naxx40 progression.
Just was put in for a dumb playerbase who couldn't handle real PvE content like it was before the newb 25/10 mans came out.
PvE content in WoW just isn't difficult enough. They should have made it more difficult than it was when 40 mans were out. Then make everything a WORLD SPAWN so there is competition between guilds/teams on the same server, and so there is a healthy and real PvP system within the server. But no, competition is too hard of a concept for the morons at Blizzard. People on the same server can't fight each other for PvE content, that's just too natural, so put it in fake carebear instances and make World PvP meaningless in WoW.
Amen to that.
I remember the AQ40 days when PvE contents were serious business.
Gotta love the Twin Emperors, Disbander of Guilds.
Um.. Above poster? I really hate to stick it up to Zorny, but he is kinda right. The "314 million dollars" on the fifth page are listed under "MMORPG". I don't think they own many MMOs.
SAtill has nothing to do with game actually being good.
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.
25 people do a raid for 3 to 4 hours and maybe 5 people get gear...then if you are really unlucky like myself to be in a guild that has a alot of one class (we usually had 5 mages in our 25 man raids) it takes months to get the gear ya want...then you finally get the gear ya want and a new raid or instance comes out and all the gear ya had is now worthless. That's the main reason I hate wow. I really just hate gear based/level based games period.

Does your gear stop functioning when the new raid comes out?
I can understand not enjoying gear based mmos and wish there was some more variety, but don't let the gear be the goal. If you enjoy the content then enjoy it. If all you want is the gear then maybe not?
yes the gear stops working when a new raid comes out, you didnt know that? ok so my old gear still works but skill can only take you so far in a gear based game you need the new gear to remain competetive. there are only so many spots in a raid and if you can't keep up then you don't get to go. of course this may have changed since I last played I heard the game has gotten so easy that anyone with two fingers can complete all the content now.
I don't hate wow, but i am tired of the die-hard fanbase acting as if WoW started it all and everything after it is a clone. Right...
exactly, my wife plays WoW and it looks decent especially the raiding part. but i just don't want to be associated with that crowd. they are the most obnoxious self righteous fans i have ever seen. if a new game isn't done exactly like WoW they will post about how WoW is much better, throw out sub numbers and all that jazz, to "warn" others from buying the game they are rallying against.
it is the only community that actually hopes other MMORPGs die. look at anytime there is a positive post about sub numbers or something from WAR, AOC or AION. you bet your sweet ass there will be SOMEONE digging through website after website or combing the words for any error to disprove the report.
ask them what MMO they are playing and i bet 90% of them will say WoW.
thats why I hate WoW it has nothing to do with the game, the Majority of its fans are assclowns that should have thier opinions VOIDED on any other MMORPG that is in developement. then maybe every MMO out there wont have to be exactly like WoW.
thats always amazes me you usually get posts "im so bored of WoW after 4 years im done with it" ... then a few sentences later "WoW does X, Y and Z like this, thus this game should do it like that too!"
if your so FN bored of WoW why are you trying to turn this game INTO WOW.
Maybe thats because WoW is better then most of the crappy new games that have come out.
Warhammer for example. So If I said WoW is better then this, would that be a lie? maybe in some departments, but it has truth.
same applies for
AoC, Vanguard, ext
So if these games are so crappy why are people leaving WOW in the first place? The reality is that WOW just like any other game can get mundane. What most people don't realize is just because a game doesn't have the same feature as WOW that doesn't make it crappy...thats called different. If you say Warhmmer is crappy then you have to explain why. From what I see WAR, AOC, Vanguard had great ideas but were not excuted very well and the community fell apart. People playing these games have no committment like they used too. Everyone wants a perfect game from day one. No one cares that the devs put their heart and soul to the game all they care about is how close is it to WOW. Before you go around saying crappy and not as good as WOW you could considered why you don't like it. Its like if a guy who dated a hundred women and still can't find one for him. Is it him or the hundred women?
There are many reasons poeple move from WOW..I think the biggest reason is the endgame being boring. There is only so much raiding you can do before you break or make a million alts. Becase face it thats whats fun about the game...the leveling. learning a new class. WOW prides its self on Endgame, evolving to the "new mmoers, and keeping up wth content. But its more of the same really and after 4 years why not try a new game? WOW jades and spoils it players to its expericence. Its like the old gf you liked a lot and you think every girl should be like her. Either get back with her or learrn to love someone new!
I really don't like how the quests are laid out, and I also hate how I have to do them to get to the content that I really want to play quickly. At this point you should be able to get through most of at least eh early game content quicker. I also think that the quest paths need to be updated badly. They're all over the place and can lead you way farther away from a certain level area than you should be. But I heard they are doing that in cataclysm. Either way, I have never been able to make a character past level 65.
Page 5: Quarter revenu of the WOW was 314 MILLION dollar -> you are correct here <-
The overall total of ALL games for the Activision-Blizzard group for that quarter was: 895 Million dollar for that quarter.
Meaning for that quarter alone.... WOW (NOT the other games from Blizzard) contributed to 35% of the COMPLETE revenu of the BIGGEST game publishing group of the world. - highlighted - you can't read as it states in your link 32%
So actually proof is there and I linked it and you refuse to read it.
------
And on the case of the 596 servers, you are talking about maximum capacity of CONCURRENT users.
As I follow this industry for years now, the simple "average" 10K non concurrent users(subs) to 1 realm based server is still very much the standards these days.
Average as in ... average. So that's indeed pretty close to ... 6.000.000 capacity -> highlight...you can't count or use maths as you are 2 million off, should be 4 million - but again, these are figures pulled out of someone's arse as that value does not, in any way, state how many users Warcraft have. If you count how many ppl moved servers and paid, if you count how many ppl changed appearance and paid, services within the game you understand...
-------
So BOTTOMLINE: to compare even one single game with the money making of WOW, you would need to sell in that game about 30.000.000 copies .... EACH year ... for the next 5 years....Needless to say not one game (even cross platfom) even came close.... - nobody is doubting you that Warcraft makes more money than any other MMO simply that your reasoning is flawed. You show warcraft as this God that we have to look up to when they are simply working for profit. They have a great product (point of view dependent on user), they sell it well, they make money out of it, so good for them.
----> The above person is not the typical WOW hater, but you still find a LOT of them over here....
Your love for this game has been stated over and over in all forums, no only in General but also in Aion / FE / AoC / etc etc etc etc etc etc etc don't you think it is time to give up this pursuit and keep your love in the right sections?
The question of this thread was "Why do you hate WOW?" and not "How much money Blizz-Act make on every quarter?" - you de-rail threads all the time with your links and figures and dollars and concurrent users etc etc. In the beginning it was a good laugh but now I would prefer that the guys that take care of these forums do their job and start deleting your posts or ban you for a while for the constant de-railing of threads.
No one cares for your figures, no one cares that you love WoW with such passion that you must show their quarterly figures all the time and X-Fire stats and what-nots.

I am always QUITE on topic Thank you.
The thread is ... why do you hate WOW.
And somebody said he didn't believe WOW was the most succesful game in 30 years of video game history (money wise).
----- > I proved with the usual links he was wrong. 1.2 Billion dollars worth of an argument.
----Bottom line: General "hate" on simply the most succeful game in history means ... you have NO clue of what MAKES a succesful game ... thick.
Meaning: your immature - game design wise - 'hate" is worthless when talking about game design in general and what makes games succesful.
Which still is the origins of this site I believe....: the search for the ideal mechanics behind MMO design.
So instead of "hating" (what's in a word) upon the most succesful mmo, you should think about WHY has Blizzard created such a gap between them ... and the rest.
"Hate" is a waste of time. it's a personal emotion based on personal perception and so useless when talking about analysing GAME mechanics in the most succesful game ever published.
Perhaps you should at least check your own spelling, mature one.
"Success" does not mean "quality". Many a genius died in poverty, recognised only after their deaths, while a lot of mediocre writers, singers and artists found their way to money and quick fame, only to be regarded as tasteless, as best.
Disco was a multi-billion dollar industry back in it's time and is now all but dead and considered better this way. Make of that what you will.
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.
So you like playing wthout quests and you never go to a cinema or football stadium ?
Or you really like the theater play/football match you watch with friends being interrupted by some fools hopping in on stage and your chair all the time ?
)) Hardly worth 0.1% on the hating scale.
A vast majority of WoW quests are fedex or killsprees without any thought put into them. The few good ones are either too high-level for me to care or simply don't make up for the bland experience. I'd rather decide for myself what to kill, thank you.
As a matter of fact, I would prefer competition with other players, if only because that would make the world seem les dead.
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.
I don't hate WoW, it just dragged undereducated kids with serious spelling problems into the market and made me feel old... I was called 'old' yesterday, and 'senior' some time ago. I'm 28, not exactly the wheelchair and colon cancer age; Morons, if this was up to me, I'd make these games ages 25+ and you kids can train away your fat on a soccer field... and now...GET OFF MY LAWN!!!
To begin with no this isn't a pro WOW thread, and no I'm not a WOW fanboy. I did play it for a time but don't anymore. I notice many people seem to hate WOW. Why ? Did you play it and something piss you off ? Is it some attempt at validating having played another game for 4-5 years when everyone else went to WOW ? Do you hate it just to hate it and be emo because the majority seem to like it ? Or is it simply some aspect of the game itself, graphics, community... ? Lastly, if you haven't played it how can you judge a game unless you base your opinion on assumptions and heresay.
I'm not crazy about its extremely (in my opinion insultingly) simplistic gameplay or unbearable community, but I'll freely admit that it is mostly the visuals.
I began disliking it during its development, prior to the beta, simply due to the art style. I had been disenfranchised by what WarCraft III had done, visually, to the WarCraft world I'd once loved, and to see World of WarCraft taking that same direction further was certainly no selling point for me.
Due to some friend-of-a-friend connections and my search for game industry employment, I was given a tour of Blizzard's headquarters in Irvine just after the beta began. I talked with Lead Artist Justin Thavirat (who was giving me the tour) and two other artists briefly about the art style and I was very critical of it. I had to be honest. I assumed that I had offended them, but a week later I received an offer to enter into the early beta personally from Justin Thavirat.
Unfortunately, and in spite of Mr. Thavirat's intentions, my experience in the beta didn't help. From the moment I first logged in, I couldn't stop scowling and twitching at how visually unappealing it all was. Sexually mouthwatering Night Elf females aside.
It's just taste.

Yes, I did. It was irrelevant to my point, though, which was that the majority of my dislike for it was formed very early on, based on very fundamental choices by the development team that very evidently have not (and couldn't have, regardless) changed since the beta. I don't need an end-game experience to show me how it plays, how it looks, who plays it and what its values are.
I don't give a rat's ass about server stability, bugs, raids or class balance, so a beta experience tells me all I need to know. What I dislike about it hasn't changed since the beta: the basic principles underlying its design.
And again, despite graphics being far from the top of my priorities in gaming, they are at the top of my conflict of taste with WoW. That has very obviously not changed, either.
I congratulate Blizzard on their success and all, wishing them the best. I don't 'hate' WoW in the sense that I wish it to go away. I just don't want to play it. Comprende?

"Hate" is a waste of time. it's a personal emotion based on personal perception and so useless when talking about analysing GAME mechanics in the most succesful game ever published.
Nevertheless, we are still humans (not robots), we still have hate/love for what we do/think...If a person does "love" or "hate" a game is basically human emotion and it is well founded as it will be their personal experience, the way they perceive the game.
You do understand that a computer game, being MMO or not, is designed in a way to make you "feel" that you have achieved something. You have goals and "prizes" for achieving those goals which in your psyche will offer a sense of accomplishment. These can cause addiction and the jugement of mechanics does get "clouded" because of this.
Computer games can reward the player with a feeling of success that is more interesting and easier to accomplish than many other tasks, including learning.
So it is very feasable to say that indeed a person can love and hate parts of the game or the same fully due to the part out psyche plays when actually playing a computer game, of any kind.
In the end, we can consider that the "hating" or "loving" of the game is like a critique. Something that can be discussed, changed because we are certainly far from being mechanic....

It is ssoooo easy to find the troll behind it.
How can you even talk about "... insulting simplistic gameplay..." and "unbearable community" IF all you did was ...
dabble a bit "... in the Beta and from the moment I first logged in I couldn't stop scowling and twitching".
Nice story. Credibility ZERO since you didn't even do any challeging end game nor witnessed community .
You didn't even play the game on release.
HAte scale 0.0% since you didn't even play the game on an operational server.
Hey Zorn, man, as someone who played WoW from the day one and enjoyed the game even I can say some aspects that I hate these days...maybe the dude just didn't like the game. It happens to all of us: you just dont like how it plays.
First of all, here is the proof that you asked for: www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html LOL dude i never denied WOW didnt have 10+ million.. you need to learn to read... i said there wasnt 6 million US subscribers like he claims... now show me a chart with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. ZORNDORF still waiting for you to show me current 6 million US subscribers... still waiting... It puts WoW at 10m active subs. I know you're going to disregard it, but I figured I'd show you anyway. LOL read above you dont even have our argument correct.
"try again. and again reading comprehension is something you need to learn mr. middle school student, i said i HATE people like you who come into other games bragging about WOW and saying things need to be more like WOW.... especially in my game WARHAMMER." WAR is, by definition a WoW clone. says you... first off Warhammer is based all on PVP... WOW was based on PVE.. in fact WOW didnt even have PVP when it was launched... so no it is far from a WOW clone... you obviously have not played it. There is many many differences. Their target market was WoW players and they really went after Blizzard. tell me what company that doesnt try to steal subs from WOW? its called competition. Business 101... You can continue to deny it all you want, but you're just going to look like a depserate troll. LOL yeah im a troll and what does it make you... a troll too because you didnt even read the threads we posted correctly. BTW- calling someone names, especially things like "Mr. Middleschool" only makes you look like a douche. Yep im a douche... ok? feel better... because he is showing figures for a company... not just WOW... oh and it doesnt say subscriptions... by the way.. with those figures.. they had just released an expansion.. of course.. he is dividing that up saying there is the subs... LOL... thats my point... show me the subs for the UNITED STATES... there isnt 6 million from the US. I know this as a fact. Furthermore, behaving like a spoiled brat and calling someone a child makes you look like a hypocrite, in case you were having difficulty comprehending you own post no problems comprehending my post but somebody posting in the same manner... you sunk to my level didnt you? so guess what it makes you? yep a douche too. Welcome to the club.
"YOU are the #1 reason why i dislike anything with WOW." Really? This one user on MMORPG.com is the the #1 reason why you dislike anything with WoW? Really? This one guy who posted on this one topic is the sole reason why you dislike a product? Have you tried the product? Or, are you "too mature" to have rational discussions? Grow Up. LOL you have reading comprehension problems too but im gonna take a wild guess you didnt read any of my reasons.. it just so happens i have said it was people like him who play other games... Screaming out in a game like warhammer needs this like WOW and needs that like WOW. WOW is better then this game. Warhammer needs dancing like WOW. Warhammer needs Dueling like WOW. Warhammer needs arenas like WOW. oh i have heard them all on our chat in warhammer. All the WOW talk in lots of MMOs... this is the reason you putz... read all the threads before spewing out garbage. I specifically pointed him out in a thread because he fits right in there with the same people. SO yeah he is the #1 reason along with all the other WOW fanboys who love going to other games and spewing off WOW love in other game general chats.

I think most of us do. I haven't played since pre-TBC but once you get the itch, you must scratch.
Been how many years now and I still find myself going to WoW's homepage to read about the latest features.
Yeah vanillia wow was a good game but unfortunately the direction the game took ruined it for me and im sure many others.

If all you want is the gear then maybe not?
yes the gear stops working when a new raid comes out, you didnt know that? ok so my old gear still works but skill can only take you so far in a gear based game you need the new gear to remain competetive. there are only so many spots in a raid and if you can't keep up then you don't get to go. of course this may have changed since I last played I heard the game has gotten so easy that anyone with two fingers can complete all the content now.
exactly, my wife plays WoW and it looks decent especially the raiding part. but i just don't want to be associated with that crowd. they are the most obnoxious self righteous fans i have ever seen. if a new game isn't done exactly like WoW they will post about how WoW is much better, throw out sub numbers and all that jazz, to "warn" others from buying the game they are rallying against.
it is the only community that actually hopes other MMORPGs die. look at anytime there is a positive post about sub numbers or something from WAR, AOC or AION. you bet your sweet ass there will be SOMEONE digging through website after website or combing the words for any error to disprove the report.
ask them what MMO they are playing and i bet 90% of them will say WoW.
thats why I hate WoW it has nothing to do with the game, the Majority of its fans are assclowns that should have thier opinions VOIDED on any other MMORPG that is in developement. then maybe every MMO out there wont have to be exactly like WoW.
thats always amazes me you usually get posts "im so bored of WoW after 4 years im done with it" ... then a few sentences later "WoW does X, Y and Z like this, thus this game should do it like that too!"
if your so FN bored of WoW why are you trying to turn this game INTO WOW.
Because I'm sick of people regurgitating the same stuff over and over and over again... on both sides.
I hate the game from level 1 to 79.
I love WoW. It is fun, funny, polished, huge and has something for almost everybody.

OK, I normally never react to insulting posts, but here you are.

No one cares for your figures, no one cares that you love WoW with such passion that you must show their quarterly figures all the time and X-Fire stats and what-nots.
just my 2pennies

Usually I hate poorly designed games, even if their gameplay is nearly perfected.
WoW makes no exeption here.
M
It's just taste.
i don't hate wow, i do enjoy it. just a lot of kids. i find wow to be truly fun with friends over vent
IN THE FACE!
@Zorndorf:
Comprende?
I am always QUITE on topic Thank you.

You can't really argue with that.
