Let me start by saying thatim not a Aion fan nor a NCsoft fan, but when/if they pull this off i'll be happy for them/you. When/if its all there, fixed, polished, tweaked, i might be interested becouse it looks amazing and makes your jaw drop right off the bat.
Im not that kind of guy that fanboys a game, defends it and tries to crush/downtalk every other game but my own. Currently im in another mmo atm, but i dont give a damn that Aion/NCsoft actually have plans and progress that might improve the game alot(from what it seems that is, be it expansion of some major patches - it still looks good).
Im happy that their doing something with their money to improve their products, better games in the market is just a big fat + for me and it should be for you aswell.
@Guillermo197 It's more of a public announcement for those people that need to hear the developers say to them that they care. As far as I'm concerned, I don't need them to say anything, just do their part. The sad part from this whole affair is that even these publicity inspired efforts will be dismissed by the bitter crowd, instead of hailed as the first of the many steps towards the right direction.
Maybe because they did these exact same "publicity stunt" mass bans in their Lineage games before? And we all know where these games stand today don't we.
Just saying. That's why I take these public announcements from NCSoft with a grain of salt.
Oh come on, you and me both know those publicity stunts in L2 came once there were less than 10k legit players left, Aion has been released for less than 2 months...I don't give a shit if they do it for publicity as long as they do it, there's no reason for anyone to be unhappy about them banning cheaters, not even if you're trying to look at it from skepticism, good acts are good acts no matter what, and if these bans mean I will get more reactive enemies when rifting in heiron, then so be it.
When all that was shown in the video gets put into the game (the way it is represented and expected, not half-arsed), almost all the bots and gold spammers are gone (I can forgive a few here and there, every game has them), the crippling latency issues are gone (for many people packet loss and poor routing is still an issue that makes Aion unplayable), and the game is no longer a grind-fest (yes it is)...
Don't get me wrong, I had a good time in Aion for about a month, but the game is on rails, it is totally grindy, and feels closed off... It's just not something that I would sub to right now. The video does make the upcoming supposed additions look awesome though. I hope they pull it off...

I left the game 2 months ago for several reasons, some seem fixed by watching the video.
I have to say there are still a couple of issue NCSoft needs to adress to make this game a competitor for WoW.
The grind (which we don't know if has been fixed) and the armor.
They should tone down the Armor, it is way too busy and from a certain distance you cannot distinguish a player from another or a class from another (apart the mages).
They are not ugly, but they are definetly too Korean, I cannot see myself committing to a long term subscription if I have to look at my character who looks more like a Mech Warrior rather than an epic hero.
Great video! Perhaps the best MMO trailer i have seen. However im not sure if its enough to bring me back to Aion.
The devs have already stated that they have no plans to add these changes anytime soon, even though most of them are already complete. The update has been labeled "3.0" which suggests these changes will go live with patch (expansion?) 3.0, or maybe even over time after 3.0. It has already been confirmed there will be an expansion next year (presumably 2.0), however none of the changes in the latest video will go live with next years expansion.
This to me is disappointing. Next year is a BIG year for MMOs, maybe the biggest we have seen yet. By the time these changes are ready to go live, they just wont be enough at that time to bring Aion back into the spotlight.
I've been playing Aion since beta and it's the most fun I've had in an MMO game since DAoC.
I never liked WoW and I enjoy a bit of a grind as long as it's fun (and in my opinion Aion has the best combat of any MMO game available right now) and keeps me entertained.
This video does look very good but if you don't like Aion now, you're not going to like it after this upgrade. It's going to be exactly the same "linear", grind-fest, bot infested, gold selling, game that it is today just with these new features*.
* I personally don't feel that Aion is any more grindy or linear than any other game I've played. In fact, I enjoy leveling in Aion more than I ever did in WoW, WAR, AoC, LOTRO, etc. and every game with levels is linear. Even WoW.
I also think NCSoft gets a bad rap. I don't see any more bots in Aion than I did in WoW in the first few months. I think it's just the fact that they are way more obvious in Aion.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
OMG im just BOOOOOOMED in the head ! Unbelievable , i have no words to say .. I'v been playing Aion since beta and still playing , It's already great for me i'm having lots of fun with my friends, legion etc ingame . I can't imagine how it would be if this patch/upgrade or smth is implemented
NCsoft just ripped ideas right out of my head, seriously I have just one feature left and I'm feeling like it may not make it because someone else will tap into my hemisphere of imagination.
That Aion vid just learnt ALOT from what both Guild Wars and Blade & Soul are doing. Blade & Soul's combat system, Guild Wars 2 underwater exploration (not sure which other game out there does this but feel free to tell me), Blade & Soul's weather and effects system (which is pretty darn good) and Guild Wars-esque pet capture. They've definitely learnt from their own franchises and are going to be releasing alot of epic stuff within the next 2 years which is pretty commendable considering what they've been through. I guess when you keep trying, you're bound to get one right......or two (GW2).....or three(Blade & Soul (Aion with bigger boobies ^^)) in NCsoft's case anyways.
Now I'm impressed. Though I still won't play the game, , what that video shows is why so many played L2 at launch and for years. It is awesome to see NcSoft get back to their roots in pushing development to it's limits . Turbine has a long road , but I'm cofident with dx11 , Turbine will be able compete with Korea. Think WoW will be taking a big hit from this , a very big hit, up to about 2.5 million players world wide is my prediction, just from watching this video/
Son whatever the hell your'e smoking please rol me one.
Blizzard plans to announce a all new high in sub numbers in February of 13.5 million worldwide subscribers, I know this because my wife works for Kontera they are already working on the banner ad campaign that announces this and WoW's upcoming 21 day free trial offer. That’s 13.5 mil which is growing not shrinking. Face it WoW is poised to be the number one MMO for the next five years, as there just isn’t any serious competition. Oh and before you call me a WoW fanboi I played it back in 2005, I'm a EQ2 fanboi these days.
I am no fan of the Korean based grinder games(everyone knows this) but if NCSoft does the following things to Aion I would be a fan.
Take control of the botters and gold spammers.
Remove the grind.
Open the world up and not make it so linear.
Allow flying in more than just a few zones.
Add more quest throughout the level progression and make them more than just kill X and fed-x quest - give us some story driven quest that tells of the games lore, let's us explore and to learn things - and give us dynamic ones.
Add all those cool arse features, I mean come on you saw that season demo in game that was amazing and that is something I have wished to see put in these games for years. Trainable mounts. Housing. The underwater scenes looked awesome.
Admit it...if they made this game to play like we say in that Video - it would be one hella cool game.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! Just when I was about to quit Aion they throw this at me! OMFG Now I gotta go get my level 50 geared with Abyss armor and DP. OMFG chanters look bad ass! Except I was hoping to get a 2hand mace and not a whip..... but anyways I wonder who is that brawler type class with the melee Oooh man I hope its chanter. To those of you crying about the grind they are already addressing it and have been addressing it for over a year now. You can obviousely see now where they were putting all their attention to but apparently the patch/exp is practically done because in a article they mentioned most if not all new features have been finished or on the brink!
I'm sorry but nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo game can possibly one up this. Although I'll be playing Global Agenda till then :P.
Well the video posted by the OP was GREAT! If only the game played this way. To make Aion succeed rather than have just great graphics, it has to get rid of the linear play and the grind!
the giants where cool.. but I think that video was more a showcase of the engine then actual game play.
I guess the giant thing could happen as a world event where they destory the houses and thats a means to introduce player housing? but player housing will probably be instanced so... ah I dont know. Cool giants though.
Only time will tell how Aion will fair here in the states, and Europe, is it in Europe to?

I've been thinking that the play houses might not last more then a month if there is a event like that going, but it will give room for other players to build houses when some one else's gets destroyed. sure gives a good incentive to go and defend player towns.

Wow, that video looked impressive. Think im gonna have to save up for a gaming pc now.
Definetly a big improvement.

But NCSoft is definetly on the right path.

Guess they finally started to use speedtree... Also they enhanced the bloom like all mad!

If this is updated like it shows it would basically fix every problem I had with the game.
Someone at NCSoft has mind reading technology they aren't telling us about. Lets hope it actually gets updated as planned and doesn't take a year.
