you know from what i saw it just looks like a hyped up version on aion balled up into an expansion. and frankly if they want me to shell out another $50 just like they did for guild wars they can forget it. cuz pointedly this video seems more like a fps then an actual game i see no flying anything the underwater could be cool but come on this shoulda been in aion to begin with. im not impressed especially when the aion logo is in korean so no im not holding my breathe on this one.
No flying? FPS? What video were you watching?.... and if you haven't read many have said this is a patch and is expected to be free. All these things were promised and they are delivering it seems like some people here no matter what a company does will never be pleased.
The trailer looks impressive at first, but after seeing a few more times, you can identify these does not look like they have a lot of "meat". A lot of art work redone though, I gave their art department a big prop on this.
The most visible upgrade is the graphic upgrade. In my opinion, graphic is the last thing AION need an upgrade for. The game already look very good. But it's probably a cultural thing. Asian players are often lean a bit more toward the look than the game play. The game after the graphic upgrade looks amazing but I am not surprised. Look at how they upgrade Lineage 2. They have done something like this before.
Most of the impressive scenes in this trailer are unfortunately mostly scripted. The boat scene, the monster flying scene...
Biggest "meat" / game play wise contents are:
- Swimming and underwater zones.
- Mount, tamable mount and mount combat.
- Player housing
- Siege golem and more siege weapon (although the golems don't look like they can be controlled)
- Class upgrade. This actually is where I don't like the most. There is no new class as far as I can tell, the hand-to-hand combat scene is actually a sorcerer. A lot of combat scene are just showing off new skills. Although the skill animations are impressive but they are so freaking long. The shield turning into gauntlet and grappling scene are several seconds; good god, use that skill on your enemy's healer and you can lock him out for a while. People are already trying to skip the skill animations already.

Naysayers: lets not forget the game has been out for more than year in Korea - so I bet the main development team has been working on this for a while now
The grind makes them money... players have to sub longer to reach their ultimate goal of max levellage. Why would they address such a thing?
Why are there so many cutesie, fantasy, childish MMO's. Give me blood, gore and a long lasting challenge. I don't need my hand being held along the way. Thanks.
Aion is definitely doing better in EU than US subscription wise, pretty obvious from the number of servers necessary alone. The communities created also seem to be a bit better in EU, at least compared to what's described on these forums. Or maybe I was just lucky.
Yes, everything shown in this video is either gameplay or an in-game cutscene which still uses scripted gameplay.
Also, according to a few translated statements, 85% of what is seen in this video is complete and working.
Based on this, many of us at AionSource have estimated that these changes will be implemented over the next year between patch 2.0 and 3.0 and updates inbetween.
2.0 should not be much longer since Korea has had the game released over a year now- I'd imagine before Spring for the Western version. It will be interesting to see the 2.0 patch notes, for sure.
Also, lots of Aion and Blade & Soul news will be out soon since G-Star 2009 is about to start in South Korea. Hopefully the 2.0 timeframe and patch notes are included.
What the hell did I just watch? That was so cool! Doesn't even look like the game I played. Granted, I played Asmo and didn't see many Asmo in the clips, but still... Very interested to see what they will be doing to the game.
For those of us who are loving Aion right now, that video is just icing on the cake.
I've noticed that the people who love Aion are the ones who are stll 30-40 (meaning they didn't grind) and came into it with no expectations.
I think if NCSoft is able to implement half the stuff that was in that video... Aion will solidify itself as the second most popular mmo on the market. Notice I didn't say second best, since that's subjective. I still feel FFXI was the most memorable and enjoyable mmo i've ever played.
Though i've never played beyond headstart for many reasons, that video looked so awesome that it might get me back into Aion.
Guess Blizzard is already thinking about what to put into their item shop as an answer. I place my bets on something like the "scroll of rapid grow" =instant lvl55 for 35$
I'll admit the vid looked nice. I might think about getting the game once these features are out and there are people who can confirm they're not causing any big bugs.
BTW - Have they done anything about the spam-tells in the game?
Have they done anything about the spam-tells in the game?
I get maybe 1 or 2 spams a day.....
The two major issues remaining are bots in front of the broker advertising Gold Selling website. And two, botters in heavily populated areas that have cornered the gathering market.
Notably, after the big 16000 botter/rmt ban, there were no advertisements in front of the broker. Sadly, an hour later, you saw lvl 10 RMT advertisements.
It seems like they're trying to get rid of the bots, but it's easy to create new ones an hour later.
Personally, I have had little to no issues with botters. My only concern is their effect on the economy, which is more stable than a month ago.

You need to understand the basic WoW player mentality. A lvl 55 for $35 wouldnt do as well as something like 6 new pets at $10 each. WoW seems to have the Pokemon effect of everyone needing to have as many pets as possible. That and the leveling speed in WoW is already insane as it is. $35 would save you less than 5 days work.
Plus blizzard still plans on adding more heroic classes (ala the DK) so most people would rather hold out their free character slots for that.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Hype hype hype! If I had to guess, they put some of the art, models, mechanics into a single player beefed up version of itself just to record the damn video. I've never played Aion and never will, but the video / forum hype crap has been done 200 times over from MMO companies who pushed out underpar games. Hopefully, for the Aion fans anyway, I'm wrong.
Naw, It was most likely an actual client build that they are working on. You half to remember aion has been out longer than a year in korea, and they've probably been working on this since before the official release over there. Companies tend to work on future projects ahead of time and work their way up to it.
FYI, despite the hype. Aion wasn't underpar. Unless you can give me some "Unbiased" "examples of games that where more polished at release. "We really can't go on fun factor because that is subjective, hence bias". You also half to understand, you are making mass marketing through quality trailers sound like that bad thing. Which makes no sense because every single MMO has to do that in order to get people to realize it exists.
So this is what Aion was supposed to be like when I payed $50 for it? When is it being released? Oh and Perfection66, I can bet you anything that Cataclysm will sell more copies than this updated version of Aion.
How can this make any sales when its going to be free. >.<
Oww and btw .. this ain`t all coming in one Update. Early next year version 2.0 is planned for release[ also known as the first expansion] and with it some of these features will be implemented. After , the rest will come over time with each new content update.

Here you are, Sir. No Korean just to please you.
I don't think there's anything wrong in being against something, but are you sure you're not against it just because it's Korean?
some many haters now choked up ... love it
Naysayers: lets not forget the game has been out for more than year in Korea - so I bet the main development team has been working on this for a while now
Well I have to say that was a really good looking trailer.
How much of it was actual game play and how much was just a movie trailer?
it was all gameplay
The grind makes them money... players have to sub longer to reach their ultimate goal of max levellage. Why would they address such a thing?

There adding alot more quests and dungeons thats how there addressing the length to max level.
When is everything from the trailer supposed to make it into the game?
Well, it's a vision. Maybe when they wake up
I don't even play Aion and that was beautiful.
Graphically, they can't.
They already have underwater adventuring, of course (as a certain high-caffeine poster has already reminded us).
i see no reason any of the other gameplay elements couldn't be added to WoW. Trainable mounts could show up any time.
Keep in mind that Blizzard has the resources to produce a new MMO every year, if they wanted to. I have no doubt that that terrifies the competition.
Aion is no competition for blizzard.
europe is actually doing a lot better then NA . it seems that NA are the only ones who are bitter to the end. Tells you a lot about our community :P
Back this up with facts, please.
@Tyrantas
Well, the direct competitors are FF upcoming MMO, GW2 and Tera. I think it's pretty obvious from that video.
@Hrothmund
