Getting DF...to see if it takes more skill than WoW

DrezeksDrezeks Member Posts: 51

I'll let you guys know what I think after I've tried it for a month. Sieges will be exempt as I doubt I'll get that far in a month.

-I have above average motor skills in real life, and I can hit things with a cursor fairly well. I don't know if that gives me an exceptional advantage at the start.

[Edit] I'm making this because I believe FPS styled MMO's have failed, but someone said DF did it fairly well and it took 'way more skill'.

Its not about wich game take more skill because wow skill, you test it in arena and BG's while in DF, you test it with your natural instinct that you have to use on the wild. .

Its like saying witch game take more skill, NHL 2010 or darkfall? It dont match. Wow is an E-sport pvp game.

You are NEVER safe in Darkfall : )

As a result you wont always be the person deciding when to fight. One second you laugh at your friends and next one all of them lay and scream on the ground, half of your health is gone and there is a big dark stormcloud over your head..... what do you do?

The real question should be which game is more fun. To play a game to see if your motor skills are needed more here than there is pointless if it is not fun. Good luck to you though.

Its way tougher than wow im sure youll be suprised. Even the beginning goblins can be a pain for new players and try fighting 2 goblin shamans and an archer at once while being new you have to constantly be dodgeing spells and arrows while staying on target on top of keeping an eye out every once in a while for other players. Its alot of fun though.

Oh I think Darkfall should be fun, I love skill based games (to an extent). And I mean for PVP, sure WoW pve is easy but that arena stuff is hard to be great at.  I'm not testing it to see if one game requires more motor skills, as WoW requires very little of those. I'm just going to, attempt to, see which game is harder to be good at.

Its hard because it will be comparing apples to oranges, but  I think the 'difficulty' can be compared.

WoW taking skill is like saying pouring a glass of lemonade takes skill.

In terms of motor skills that is essentially correct.

It sounds like your looking for tactics.  DF has failed in that category as far as I know.  I haven't heard anyone state that anything else besides skill level and motor skills decide the outcome of a battle.

Tactics......its to difficult for normal players to spend time on it.

Naval combat will hopefully force players to think first.

Most of the time an FPS game should take much more skill than a game like WoW. One reason, you actually have to aim. Secondly, in WoW the death penalties are NOTHING compared to Darkfall's. Darkfall is fully lootable corpse upon death. WoW is just... well walking for like a minute? Or having to sit for 10 minutes waiting for Ressurection Sickness to go away. Anyways, this is just my opinion. I'm sure someone will find a way to disagree with me.

    Welcome to Darkfall.

I look forward to checking in on your thread OP. If you're on NA-1, let me know if you need a few supplies to get you going.

Good luck you will need it. EU or US server?

Darkfall is nothing like WoW btw so you might be in for a shock.

I'll be on NA, is it safe to assume the population is fairly similar to EU servers?

I won't be considering death penalty part of skill, because really that doesn't make actual fighting any harder!

I'm reading the forums as I download so I can play whats generally accepted as 'good' because almost any game is hard if your using the weakest set of skills...

You wont see a massive amount of people around the starter cities, most are in player cities now.

Also you might want to look up the NEW clan, they help new players get to grips with the game.

Dont expect to get the hang of it straight away, it not your normal run of the mill mmo.

    Have fun :P

Every MMO takes skill, -every-, and all you haters can say that WoW does not take talent but it does. Every MMO is different when it comes to skill. DF takes skill, like every other.

You've obviously never played WoW, or lack the ability to understand what "skill" means.

Most likely, you played WoW and got your ass handed to you, so you're bitter and think "THIS DOESNT TAKE ANY SKILL!!!!!" because you lack the skill to win and have to make excuses to why you aren't very good.

actually pouring lemonade does take skill. if you're not looking at it while pouring it then it will spill all over the place....duh!

  • LogothXLogothX Member Posts: 245

HINT: It takes about as much skill as your regular MMO. When the moons align and you actually get into a fight with an equally matched opponent, think a first person shooter with good collision detection - a horrible interface, and an asinine stamina system.

True but if you have a magic radar and can alt tab cycle until you have the glass you want, then press a button to pour it then it's kind of like pouring lemonade for disabled retards.

Seeing someone say "WoW takes some skill" is like a fat person that uses a mobility scooter because they're too lazy to walk saying "it takes actual skill to ride this scooter".

    Something like this mate ;)

BTW: No offence intended the picture is just a bit of fun. I'm sure WoW does take some level of skill but let's face it, you do a raid and you're as scripted as the mobs and just use atl+tab and a few buttons at most. Pretty boring after a while for most.

This is true! At least in WoW you can just press TAB to autoaim, eh ;)

Damn, you got me. I just didn't have enough skill to press crusader strike, divine storm, judgement and the occasional bubble and heal. My Paladin was so bad because I couldn't do that. Only the truly skilled could pull that off.

I quit WoW because of the most boring endgame ever.

    WoW=/=skill.

Good players are good everywhere. I knew a guy who was 3 times gladiator in WoW. He came to DF and started to tear his opponents apart...
