Im not a WoW fan. But I do like chess. I spend countless hours playing the crappy microsoft version online with other players. Chess, believe it or not, requires strategies and tactics. I have learned that if i see a certain piece do a certain set of moves,my opponent is following a strategy. I have those memorized and counter strats memorized. Again Im not trying to insult anything here.
That's why I think Chess is stupid and boring.
It's NOT about strategy and tactics.
It's about memorization. Memorizing what strategies counter what.
Chess is an extremely limited game where everyone has done so much min-maxing and munchkin rolling that it's long since been milked dry of any real strategy or tactics.
Where are the surprises? Where are the unexpected twists? Where are the handicaps?

I am gonna bow out of this conversation. I admit to not playing DFO. I also admit to wanting to play it. When Im up against people that say this about chess, I just dont care anymore if my opinion gets heard or not.
Chessboard reference made me chuckle, just because of the Chess Board in Karazan.
Riddle me this: What early MMO had a chessboard and where was it located? And further more, what mobs inhabited the area? And even further more, what race was that zone somewhat home to? and to even maybe push the envelope, what is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything?
I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

Chess is not boring, but the guy that you just quoted is totally right. If his reply made you want to get out of that conversation, then its because you just got own and you dont know what to say to make a come back. My suggestion, ignore all he said and quote someone else, but you cant deny what he said because he is right. Im really good at chess game, i participated in tournament so i know better. Only thing that he was wrong about is taht playing chess is not boring.
On topic, yes, wow is exacly like a chess game, but in real time so it take skills, strategy and all that goes around. But, like chess game, its really limited because you always play on the same pvp maps. After a while there are no surprise. Once you know what to use vs each class, what are the structure of each map, if you are good at typing on a keyboard(for wow case, being fast on hot key's and turning around your enemy and jumping at the same time) The difference with a chess game, all the units are controlled by each players in real time, but you need to join a clan, use ventrilo and make plans before the match start and make quick plans during the match like in a football game.
While in DF, its like any fps games, but sure, you got more hp and since each fight can take place everywhere, you have to get use to your environment the fastest way possible during each fight. Its also about communication, strategy and tactic during group fight, but even if a guild got the best strategy, they can still lose because of the lack of player skill. Also, like the medieval warfare, you had to try to count how many enemy you are facing before your team decide to jump in. You have to take in note, the condition of combat , scanning anything and make a quick plan, well darkfall is basically like the real life world war 2, but when we die, we only lose our loots and we respawn at a stone of resurection.
I guess I will pop back in again on the chess subject. What the hell are you talking about? I dont think you do play chess. Unexpected suprise? They are everywhere in chess.

I respectfully disagree.
Skill?
Actually in both games the people who are the best typists generally win.
So basically if you can type well you will be good or above average and people with some tactics or strategy will have a further edge.
Essentially your all talking about your wtf pwn ability to be a secretary.
Grats You Win!
Well if WoW is chess then it's a blitz. You know 5 min to you and 5 min to your opponent... Perhaps even 3 min...
