I quit after afew days ingame mostly becuase I found myself grinding on goblins no more then 2 hours in. Also the UI and inventory storage needs a huge revamp imo. I don't know anyone in their right mind who enjoys playing with their inventory and UI for hours on end
Darkfall has alot of potential but in the state its in now its not quite able to make the newcomers stick around for long unfortionately. Hopefully in 2010 they make some much needed changes and I'll likely give it another try.
Nothing is wrong with the UI. You never acclimatized and quit before you got accustomed to the new game. You only have yourself to blame.
I agree. I hated the UI at first too. I thought "WTF, why does this game have a learning curve for the fucking UI". The more I play the more I learn the UI is how it is for a reason. I think Aventurine planned it out. Every nuance of the UI is how it is for an ingame reason.
You can't be serious...
Your saying the UI is a pain in the ass for a reason? Come on now....lol This is the screen I'm looking at everytime I'm ingame. If its an eyesore and not user friendly whatsoever its a turn-off. DF probly has the worst UI I've seen in any pay to play MMO...and I've played many.
Yes, it is a pain in the ass. takes some getting used too. I still mess up all the time and press RMB for things I think it should do, but it doesnt do what Im used too. No need to argue over these things.
You either like it or you dont. I like Agricola's response "Vote with your wallet". Nuff said as far as Im concerned.

Exactly. They got my $50 out of me to try it but I won't pay for another month until I feel its worth the monthy fee. I honestly do think it has plenty of potential. The question is whether the company has the smarts to do something with it...

I'm sure the game itself is great but the face of Darkfall needs an overhaul imo. Horrible bag storage and a UI that could make a full grown man cry is a big turn-off for many FICKLE CHILDREN. If they fix their horribly done UI and afew other things that really turned me off I'll return in a heartbeat.
The UI was strange to me too at first but now that i've learned it, I hardly notice it and find it actually quite good.. I love the UO style bag system.

Happened to me all the time and I'd get wasted in pvp constantly when I hit it (sometimes just by accident) and my char stood still and got a lashing until I got control back. So what I did is bind it to my 5th mouse button (I have a razer deathadder) and bind parry to my right mouse button, works a treat. I don't hit the RMB anymore in combat and I can actually use parry in PvP now instead of scrambling for the v button and dieing in the attempt!

Originally posted by jimmyman99 I play DF right now and I'm liking it. But I play exclusively PvE because I stand no chance against a vet in PvP. Sure I escaped a few times, but I cannot win the fight. I don't want to avoid PvP, but I have no choice. Joining a clan is not an answer, because it severely limits my freedom to do what I want.
How will joining a clan limit you? It's done the opposite for me. Now when red(s) come into town looking to PK, I can send the word out to clan-mates. I've received weapons, armor, mats and so on from them. I'm free to do what I want, when I want. I can choose to participate in clan battles and PvP or harvest/craft or explore.
If a clan limits what you want to do, leave it! Find another clan.

When I play an MMO, I don't cry about advantages other players have that put more effort into the game than me and are obtainable to me. I used to cry in WoW because other people had abilities I did not have access to nomatter what I did, like WotF in Arena, an extreme advantage. Macroing is allowed but you can only macro so many things and it is much much slower than if you played the game normally. I had been arguing for increased skill gains in PVE since release and i'm glad they finally did that. Stat gains are faster at low level and slow down at higher levels. AV has been making the game easier for casuals to catch up with vets constantly and a lot of vets aren't very happy that AV had to dumb down their game so that the lazy whiners could catch up to them when they had to put 6x more time and effort than the casuals. Developing your character is part of the competition and these kind of games aren't as fun when progression stops for various reasons. you stat-difference whiners are asking AV to ruin their game just like other games have been ruined because of lazy whiners wanting to be able to beat someone who has invested more time into their character. This has happened in other games already. you have low stats and die a lot? suck it up like the rest of us you big baby, its your own fault for not seeing Darkfalls potential before, now you have to play catch up, deal with it or go find another easier dumbed down game that lets noobs and retards win like in WoW. Darkfall isn't going to die because the lazy crybabies can't catch up to people have put more effort into developing their character, Darkfall will die when they piss off all the veteran players by allowing the lazy whiners to catch up to them with 10x less effort. The vets will go to a different game when that happens. One where they don't allow retards to compete with the best. I never macroed melee and never bloodwalled and I have 390 hps, why would I want to continue to play a game where they keep allowing people who don't put as much time or effort into developing their char to beat me? There are so many people who macro for months only to find out they suck at the game and that extra 50 HP cushion really doesn't do much at all when your aim isn't great. BTW I enjoy fighting multiple enemies at a time, when you are fighting two guys at same time their HP pool and damage output is always greater than mine and it takes player skill to overcome so even tho I have more HP than both of them and do more damage than both of them I am still challenged and at a disadvantage but I still stand a chance. If everyone can easily get 450 HPs and have same damage as I do it won't be as fun for me because although I will still be able to beat players 1v1 I will nearly always lose in 2v1 and this is a group pvp game and I like to solo so that will probably be the day I quit Darkfall.
Do you realize that the majority of the population is casual? If you restrict casual players access to the game, if they cannot compete with the macro grinders/no life people then it is YOU that will suffer. Once the casuals quit, who will u play with? Other people like yourself? All 20 of them?
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Always stood under the impression that casuals are usualy the macroers, they do things in RL and let macros working for them , the hardcore is out in the wild skilling 2x - 6x faster at the keybord
About the stat difference ..is the scape goat players who loose often blame instead on working on their skills that is arranging and getting skilled with the hotbar, skills regarding when and which support spell to use, when and what escape way to use, twitch skills, what paper skill in what order to skill up etc..

Funny to read about "dumbing the game down for casuals" ...
Whats intelligent in grinding? I dont know but all people who are against overreact and say that every one would get 110 stats in about 1 month ... and all of them arent reading the posts or doesnt have reading comprehension. Who knows.
Majority wants to make the life for newbs easyer. That means to one point make stat gain faster (50-60 stats) and after that put it back to normal as it is now. And if AV would do it no one real pro would whine about it, as they would have more targets to pvp or at least people who search a challange not like these carebears who farm people at starter towns ...
As i said if you hate an idea give an counter IDEA. Every troll can say that idea sucks because of that and that. If you guys would do anything in science we all would be doomed -.- as there wouldnt be any progress. If stats idea sucks then say how the life of a newb could be made easyer without Vets starting QQ rampage as it is now.
Fact is a minority doesnt want stats changed and majority want it. See official forum. There were polls and a lot of nerd rage from vets who fear to have fairer pvp

exactly, in fact I hardly ever macro because I'm usually playing the game. How hard is it to set up a simple macro to click to cast a spell on an afk person before you go to bed or before you go to work? If you are macroing when you could be playing the game you have a strange sense of fun.
Macroing is not illegal either, afk-macroing is and I assume this is only illegal because of all the whiners. AV doesn't expect you to click the same buff other spell 10,000 times so you can give 1 or 2 extra stat points to your buddy and have it last 15 seconds longer, you can if you want to but the smart players use a macro to do it instead of getting a repetitive stress injury. macroing is fine because when players raid the macroers city, it is can be very profitable for the raiders because of the macroers. If there were no macroers in player cities and and no people at crafting work stations for the intentionally long time it takes to craft things, raiding would'nt be nearly as profitable or rewarding. Macroing melee without using reagents to heal your target is extremely slow gains in comparison with PVE. You don't HAVE to macro and why would you macro when you could be playing the game normally and be developing your character much faster and making profits from mobs you kill? Pretty stupid imo. Darkfall is about freedom, you don't HAVE to do anything to compete besides use your brain. It is a sandbox game where you can do anything you want so if there is one player you can't beat, team up with a buddy and one block while the other shoots arrows into his back. Its so easy but people are too stupid to figure it out. Also there are things like buff other spells which you can cast on friends which will increase their DPS and resistances more than any amount of character development. Darkfall is much more about player skill and using your head to win fights than any other game yet the whiners always find some miniscule thing to whine about.
The race analogy is a good one, these whiners want to be able to compete in a race against someone who has spent 6 months training for the race while the whiner trained for two weeks and feasted on potato chips. The whiner wants lead weights put on that 6 month player so he can catch up. At least in Darkfall the casuals can combine their strenght and easily overcome character development differences. New character 200 hp, Max hp character which doesn't even exist yet is 450 hp. That's the least character stat difference between max lvl and newly created character by far than another other mmorpg. Just goes to show you that whiners will whine about any slight disadvantages they have. There are plenty of casuals who aren't crying about the fact that they have to put as much time into their characters as the "hardcore" players. Darkfall has long term progression like UO did.
If people would learn the game, there are loads of things a casual player can do to beat a veteran, it doesn't require you to have the exactly the same HP and do exactly the same amount of damage because you can utilize terrain and abilities like a well placed confusion or utilizing high ground advantage which can totally turn the direction of a fight. This isn't like WoW where you click on a target once and press all your abilities and never miss, player skill plays a HUGE role and ignorant newbies will always cry because they can't figure out how to beat someone and will blame differences in character development or the game rather than blame themselves. Also stats grain faster for new players so I really don't understand what all the crying is about, yes Darkfall has long term character development, deal with it or find and easier game where they allow you to win based on other things besides player skill. Its funny that people compalain about time invested = win in DFO because that is more true of every other mmorpg game by far than it is true for DFO.
UO had macroing and it was much much more advantageous in that game, I guess UO was a bad game too huh?

Most people who macro in DF do so naked. Those that have reagents on themselves are usually near their computers and are paying attention to system chat in city when they are macroing away. Anyone who approaches a city will be displayed in the system chat tab.
Also from what I've learned it is the people (groups of people mainly) who macro'd, skilled off bugged mobs (people used to fight over bugged mob spawns in this game) and hacked in game during the first few months in this game are the ones in charge of large alliances with tons of gold at their disposal.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

Then you heard it wrong. Hardcore players are macro'ing when they are away from the keyboards (aka asleep, eating, etc) and then going into the wild and raising their skills faster off mobs when they are back at their keyboards. Look up the word "efficiency" this is what a hardcore player strives for instead of simply working harder like a lemming.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
Originally posted by Xianthos e as it is now. Fact is a minority doesnt want stats changed and majority want it. See official forum. There were polls and a lot of nerd rage from vets who fear to have fairer pvp
Vets don't fear fairer pvp. Vets fear the game being made easier for those lazy/stupid people so that all the effort they put into developing their characters was a waste of time, character development is part of the competition and we don't like to see handicaps for anyone. Fair pvp for me is 2v1, 3v1. If everyone has the same HP as me and does as much damage as me it will be too difficult to fight 2v1 as the greater numbers already have a huge advantage since once can block while the other does damage to my backside. That will be the day I quit DF because it will be too difficult to solo and I don't like losing to bad players simply because they had greater numbers.
Now if those players had invested the same amount of effort as me into developing their chars and I lose it woudln't bother me one bit and I would expect to lose 2v1. Stats are the only long term progression left in DF and the whiners are trying to kill that too now. 10 str = 1 damage, if someone has 50 more str than you thats 5 extra damage per hit and if you have 200 HP and a normal hit does 30 damage, thats the difference between one missed arrow or melee swing. Just goes to show that whiners will always whine about anything and the ignorant people will believe repeat it and blame it for why they lose a fight.
Just to reiterate what was said before, it is extremely naive to think that macro now is an oddball phenomena. It is prevalent, specially in the more painful areas (Schools of magic come to mind). It is extremely common for the people bent of the competitive side to macro buffs and debuffs (and without any penalty, since buffing is personal/group). A high score of Stoneskin is a very noticeable benefit, as are all the other buffs. And they are a major pain to skill up during normal gameplay.
The somewhat candid posture of some posters here simply does not reflect what happens in-game. Casuals rarely macro, since they want to savor advancement and are not overly concerned about the competitive aspect of the game. Guild members and "hardcore" players are much more prone to macroing, since they are very competitive and want to join battles with as much advantage as they can possibly squeeze out of the game.
Macroing simply changed from the overt days of bloodwalling. It is as prevalent as before, but done in relative secrecy (but with the knowledge, and even approval, of everyone). The game moved towards the right direction when it reduced the obnoxious skill grind. Now, it needs to step up and make the experience more enjoyable (and competitive) for everyone.
Always stood under the impression that casuals are usualy the macroers, they do things in RL and let macros working for them , the hardcore is out in the wild skilling 2x - 6x faster at the keybord
About the stat difference ..is the scape goat players who loose often blame instead on working on their skills that is arranging and getting skilled with the hotbar, skills regarding when and which support spell to use, when and what escape way to use, twitch skills, what paper skill in what order to skill up etc..
exactly, in fact I hardly ever macro because I'm usually playing the game.
I think you would be wrong about most players paying attention to their system log while macroing magic, it still takes a good while to level spells up and there are lots of them, usually for very minimal benifit, like 1 extra stat point and it isn't guarenteed b/c there are lots of variables. I have killed so many people macroing magic afk its rediculous the amount of regs I've gotten, makes raiding very profitable for me and I'm at the point where I leave thousands of regs on my character when I macro and doesn't bother me much if I get pked. When I macro I'm always doing something else and I usually die before I figure out im being attacked. Thats the risk you take when you afk macro.
Darkfall is about the smartest player wins, part of being a smart and efficient player is setting up macro before you go afk. You don't have to do it to compete and you won't be at a huge disadvantage if you wont but you will be at a slight disadvantage but those disadvantages can usually always be overcome by playing smart when you fight someone.
There are so many things that players can do in pvp to close the character difference gap, you just have to know what to do. If you want to get in someones face and do rockem sockem robots with someone when they have superior melee skills with you, you can expect to lose of course.
Always stood under the impression that casuals are usualy the macroers, they do things in RL and let macros working for them , the hardcore is out in the wild skilling 2x - 6x faster at the keybord About the stat difference ..is the scape goat players who loose often blame instead on working on their skills that is arranging and getting skilled with the hotbar, skills regarding when and which support spell to use, when and what escape way to use, twitch skills, what paper skill in what order to skill up etc..
I swear to god you have someone else posting sometimes, cause one post is full of typos, bad english and bad logic, and some other posts (like this one) is well articulated and informative. Do you have an evil illiterate illogical twin brother/sister or something?
Anyways, I'm trying to understand how these pesky stats work:
Assume player 1 has strength of 30 and player 2 has strength of 100. Assume all other skills are the same. Both players are using the same type of sword. Assume that player 1 does 5-10 dmg per hit to goblins. With these stats, how much damage would player 2 do with each swing? I believe str also increases health by a small amount. How much health would the difference of 70str exactly be?
Thanks for any info.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
When I play an MMO, I don't cry about advantages other players have that put more effort into the game than me and are obtainable to me. I used to cry in WoW because other people had abilities I did not have access to nomatter what I did, like WotF in Arena, an extreme advantage.

Your statements contradict each other. You say that the smartest player wins and that part of being smart and efficient is afk macroing, which you admit to doing, but then you say it's not necessary to compete. /boggle
On top of that, you attack other players with posts like:
Hi, I just got Darkfall two weeks ago and already I quit. I tried to beat someone who had put 6 months into developing their char in a 1v1 fight and I died and lost my goblin loot which I farmed for 8 hours without banking. Whoever has the highest HP automatically wins in Darkfall because it is not based on player skill at all. Why should I be forced to play the game to develop my stats if I want to kill someone who has put more effort into their character than me?
I know they increased skill and stat gains in PVE to make macroing obsolete and that newly created characters have a little less than half the HP of a potentially maxed HP char in Darkfall but still I would have a better chance against a level 80 in WoW as a level 1 than as a new player in Darkfall when trying to kill anyone at all in the whole game.
I don't like to play games where whoever puts more effort into developing their character has a greater chance of winning. Darkfall is going to fail if they don't change.
You contradict yourself here, too. In the italicized post above, you speak about "developing" your character and how macroing is obsolete, but admit to doing so in this post. Nice...
I have been paying since February 2009. I play about 20 hours a week.
Why should someone who starts the game in November and plays 20 hours a week be brought to my same level?
THIS IS NOT QUAKE or Cstrike. It is a mmoRPG!!!! enuff said, AGAIN! You say I am QQ for stat gain increase? Your QQ cuz I pay them more money than you!
Because it would make "hardcore" players like you cry and there is nothing sweetest then that. I don't care how hard you worked on your character, the core of this game is build around pvp and without competitive pvp this game only going to lose players not gain them.
I hope that one day AV will open this game to the masses and make it painless to get one melee mastery, max archery, one crafting skill and magic up to one elemental school or necromancy. Whatever it would be a pool of skill points to spend during the character creation or some sort of soft cap which allows you to skill up fast until reaching mentioned by me the pool of points.
It is much better then it was back in beta and early launch, but it is still a pain in the ass for people who join this game advertised as massive pvp seamless world and they have to spend at least two months of not really casual PVE game play.
I love darkfall the way it is, therefore I will continue to pay and play. You dont like it how it is, so find another game. its that simple.
It's the same with AoC, Eventually so many people complain and QQ about it I left because everyone was QQ everywhere I went. I actually did not have a problem with it. Now the game is getting filled with QQ carebears and it is ruining the experience for people who love there game they play.
I've just switched to Darkfall and i think its bloody brilliant. The combat system is ace. The ability to kill ANY player is fantastic.
In so many games you get those idiots who keep stealing your mobs, looting your drops etc... etc... but in this game, as i have done already since only playing 2 days, if someone keeps trying to steal my loot or keep on hitting me with arrows or spells accidently or not, i'll slaughter them. Wait for them to become a tomb and loot their equipment. But then, they could group up with a friend and destroy me, getting their gear back and mine in the process. Its a great vicious circle.
As for your Goblin issue. Like others have said, there are many other mobs. BUT, i find the fact the goblins hide behind objects, move around, have realistic attacking range etc... i could kill them all day. Its a great challenge. I guess thats just me though since you say the combat is thrilling, maybe for you not THAT thrilling afterall.
After joining NEW earlier tonight, finding out what level my stats need to be before i can hold my own against the majority of higher end players, it will not take a year to have "fun". To me, i'm already having fun. BUT if you mean fun to be high scale pvp battles, then no, i think saying it will take a year is a bit silly.
Just as a side note. I hear a lot of people complaining about ganking. I've been ganked twice in two days by the same guy within 5 minutes. He was some badass Ork that killed me in 3 hits. I lost all my gear. Did i cry, no. Why? because i know i will have my revenge one day and loot his .
I love darkfall the way it is, therefore I will continue to pay and play. You dont like it how it is, so find another game. its that simple.
The problem is that majority of people willing to pay for that game think like me, not like you.
Considering how small the market for full loot pvp MMORPG is, AV will take steps to make their game attractive for that small majority, minority is not enough to support this game.

No one is complaining about ganking. Ganking happens, and it's expected in a game like this. I've been ganked a great deal of times already, and I accept that as part of the package.
However, do not assume that if something is ok for you, then it's ok, period. You have barely scratched the surface, and you will, in time, feel the weight of problems that are being discussed here.
I have fun playing, pursuing my personal objectives. However, I accept that there is room for improvement, and that's what I'm discussing here. Don't become a blind follower, accepting everything that's in the game as good. Criticism leads to improvement, always.

talking out of your a** again eh? you know how much stonskin benifits you every 25 skill? .2 damage reduction. The difference between stoneskin at 1 skill and stoneskin at 75 skill is .6 damage. That is POINT SIX. you should quit talking about this game like you know wth you are talking about noob.
Casuals rarely macro since they want to savor advancement?
Casuals are the people who don't have the time to play all week long, its a mistake to think they aren't competitive and dont macro.
When I play an MMO, I don't cry about advantages other players have that put more effort into the game than me and are obtainable to me. I used to cry in WoW because other people had abilities I did not have access to nomatter what I did, like WotF in Arena, an extreme advantage.

Always stood under the impression that casuals are usualy the macroers, they do things in RL and let macros working for them , the hardcore is out in the wild skilling 2x - 6x faster at the keybord
About the stat difference ..is the scape goat players who loose often blame instead on working on their skills that is arranging and getting skilled with the hotbar, skills regarding when and which support spell to use, when and what escape way to use, twitch skills, what paper skill in what order to skill up etc..
exactly, in fact I hardly ever macro because I'm usually playing the game.
Your statements contradict each other. You say that the smartest player wins and that part of being smart and efficient is afk macroing, which you admit to doing, but then you say it's not necessary to compete. /boggle
You contradict yourself here, too. In the italicized post above, you speak about "developing" your character and how macroing is obsolete, but admit to doing so in this post. Nice...
~Ripper
More dumb black and white thinking. Smartest player wins not because of macroing alone but because of player skill and utilizing terrain and abilities. Macroing isn't necessary to compete but you can do it if you want to and most smart ppl will do it when they go afk. Think before you type please.
I read you post earlier "why don't they give everyone a free trial at same time since servers can handle 10k concurrent users?" Herp Derp, overloaded starter areas, the reason for limited release in the first place.
I guess I should clarify, macroing anything besides buffs and debuffs is obsolete because you gain much faster and make profits off mobs. most macroing provides very little benifit. In regards to buffs you gain like .2 more protection every 25 skill, big deal.

But what exactly is wrong with it?
I find it to be as any other MMO.

How will joining a clan limit you? It's done the opposite for me. Now when red(s) come into town looking to PK, I can send the word out to clan-mates.

Always stood under the impression that casuals are usualy the macroers, they do things in RL and let macros working for them , the hardcore is out in the wild skilling 2x - 6x faster at the keybord

Do you realize that the majority of the population is casual? If you restrict casual players access to the game, if they cannot compete with the macro grinders/no life people then it is YOU that will suffer. Once the casuals quit, who will u play with? Other people like yourself? All 20 of them?

Do you realize that the majority of the population is casual? If you restrict casual players access to the game, if they cannot compete with the macro grinders/no life people then it is YOU that will suffer. Once the casuals quit, who will u play with? Other people like yourself? All 20 of them?
Always stood under the impression that casuals are usualy the macroers, they do things in RL and let macros working for them , the hardcore is out in the wild skilling 2x - 6x faster at the keybord
About the stat difference ..is the scape goat players who loose often blame instead on working on their skills that is arranging and getting skilled with the hotbar, skills regarding when and which support spell to use, when and what escape way to use, twitch skills, what paper skill in what order to skill up etc..
exactly, in fact I hardly ever macro because I'm usually playing the game.
Nice...

Ok here it is plain and simple.

It is much better then it was back in beta and early launch, but it is still a pain in the ass for people who join this game advertised as massive pvp seamless world and they have to spend at least two months of not really casual PVE game play.
you speak of a game that is not darkfall.

Black and white thinking FTL.
