Personally, if I were making an MMORPG, I'd be balancing player progress around people who work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and have a family. I honestly do not think it's possible to fully appease hardcore players. There simply will never be enough content for them, especially not in a new game. It's a futile effort.
Perhaps servers shoudl be divided into ones which cater for those with limited time, as opposed to those with more. But designing a game on the assumption that all players are on a 9-5 with a family is as unbalanced as desigining it on the assumption that all players are single and unemployed.

I like this idea. A lot. Separating servers into "casual" and "core" would give people choice and lessen the complaints. Of course, people would complain about being "separated",or things like that, but still...
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.
