I wish posters would stop posting the nonsense below and it is complete nonsense as anyone at CCP can tell you the male demographic is still the major force in MMO's presently. "World of Darkness, a new online subscription game about vampires targeting an 18-25 year old, female demographic”. That was strictly a writers opinion, no CCP official has ever stated such. Three faction MMOs have shown to have the best pvp so far. I hope CCP realizes that and gives us all three factions at release.
World of Darkness is based on the vampires and werewolves as we know them from prior literature, not how they have been perverted in the Twilight series. I doubt you will see many Twilight people once they realize the major differences.
This is true, I've met very few girls that played Vampire, most girls ive met don't even know what a tabletop RPG is. Yes there was like one of my buddies GF that would play with us here and there. Ive known more girls that were into DnD compared to Vampire.
But maybe its this new generation that the girls are all into vampire stuff. But if the Twilights are playing thats cool by me, Ill just see them as part of a weak bloodline and kill them. It would be so sick if there was the Assamite clan and if you could commit Diablerie. I wish I still had my sweet Assamite.

According to CCP CEO Veigar Pétursson “with more professional males in the 25-35-year-old age range losing their jobs, he has seen the number of subscribers soar since the economic crisis began. CCP Games has been profitable since 2004, but all profits are currently invested in Eve Online and also into creating World of Darkness, a new online subscription game about vampires targeting an 18-25 year old, female demographic”.

ya it this information was also released to the public on their forums in a pdf I think a year or more ago. Its not some random bloggers take or spin, its CCP saying this.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."

I've read most of Anne Rice's vampire books. I'd had to say that the book Vampire Lestat was my favorite. They somewhat degraded bit by bit after that. Just pointing out that in that book Lestat also makes out with his own mother. Well, at that time he is considering her his daughter. If anything is disturbing, that would be the part I consider. Still, that was my favorite book in the series.
At least you read the book though, so I give you props. I read Brite's works as well. Lost Souls is a little disturbing. I wouldn't suggest her books to just anyone. Lost Souls is at least a good starting point. I enjoyed it.. Exquisite Corpse gave you a very different take on serials killers. They aren't some deluded psycho monster. This is just normal for them. I wouldn't suggest that book to just anyone. They need to read some other Brite book first, and even then go read some reviews. She has some great talent, but you can't unread her stuff and you need to be able to handle it.
Back to the topic on hand. I really hope CCP can pull this one off. My only other hope is the Secret World. I want a more modern horror/sci-fi mmo. While I love fantasy, sometimes I need a break from it. The only good break I enjoy is horror. Please someone pull off a decent horror MMO. The only part I hate is that I personally prefer vampires and right now they are back on the top spot for the cool factor. I think Stephen King's Silver Bullet ruined werewolves for me. As a kid I saw that movie and had nightmares forever. I always liked vampire though. Maybe it was the thought of Lauren Hutton sucking the blood out of me.

Damn I wish the Followers of Set will be a playeable clan. They are nearly extinct since Gehenna, but these corrupted egyptians were always so much fun to play in PnP.
Is that so? Interesting... I've always liked the idea of being turned... Can people also be turned, or is it strictly a 'Born as a pureblood werewolf' type deal?
Basically, a werewolf either has sex with a wolf ( in wolf form ) or a human ( in human form ). This determines the form the werewolf feels most comfortable in. If it's born from a wolf ( lupus ), it's more used to the wolf form and more feral, if it's born from a human ( homid ), it's more human and more comfortable as a human.
If a werewolf ( or any of the changing breeds for that matter ) has sex with another, it means that a metis is produced, which is basically an extremely disfigured werewolf, and they're the outcasts of society.

Just so you know....there are those of us "girls" (I don't really qualify, since I'm 46, I'd say WOMEN) that aren't particularly fond of Twilight (it was okay), DO know what tabletop games are, particularly DnD, AND....played Vampire the Masquerade Redemption AND Bloodlines and love Bloodlines SO much, that it's still on my machine even now. It gets transferred to every hard drive as I upgrade. Anywhere my machine goes....VtMB is going WITH it.
And as far as killing ME...good luck. I tend to either play Toreador-type vamps or Malkavians or Brujah, and you don't want to mess with any of them. :P I know nothing of WoD's clans, however, and I haven't been keeping up with the game because they rarely release any substantial information on it. It's been years and years and honestly....I doubt it's ever going to be released, but...we'll see.
I don't know about this "new generation" of girls. I don't know that they're all that into vampires, per se, they're just into "Edward" or whoever that actor is that plays him. They have a really twisted idea of what "real" vampires are, in my opinion...lol.

I dont like cybering with guys, and Im not interested in RPing with "Bella" wannabes. Most likely that game will become a glorified catwalk were girls praise each others for their newly looted high heeled shoes.
Can you link that please, would like to read the whole article.
This could be so interesting if they threw their version of mages into the mix as well.
Although considering how powerful they're supposed to be I suppose they would probably be more suitable as npc types and not players? Eh...not like they have to follow things to a 'T' anyways in the land of mmos.
Werewolves, vampires, warlocks, witches, secret societies, magi....could make for some interesting fun done in a modern day environment if they have some good creative talent behind the work. I hope they at least go modern era timeline with it.
It would be a nice change of pace from what most mmos offer.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I guess I should have said Female instead of girls. I'm sure there are more Women out there like you but I've just never really came in contact with many that played any type of Vampire game, be it tabletop or the videogames. Bloodlines was a good game for sure, I just wish they had Assamites in that game. They skilled assassins, with a thirst for vampire blood and not to be messed with as well.
As for Twilight ,story wise it wasn't bad, its just I cant get over the sparkling in the sunlight thing. So if they are roleplaying Twilight vampires I would RP and see them as an abomination and would try and kill them and suck their blood and souls dry. If someone likes something more power to them, everyone has there own opinion. But my opinion is that is not a vampire to me, they burn in the sun. If they are RP then I might as well RP too and we can all have fun.
I wish there was more info about the clans that will be in WoD, IDK if they are using Masquerade rules or Requiem rules, but Ive been looking forward to this game since I heard about it. Maybe someday we will meet in battle and have some fun. If you kick my ass it wouldn't be the first time Ive gotten beaten by a female. This one girl I worked with used to own me at Tekken all the time.

I guess its time to start learning the new stuff then. I have a Vampire the Requiem rulebook as well as a book with bloodlines. There are 6 clans which but 82 bloodlines which are an offshoot of a clan, possessing similar features and abilities with some significant twist. The orange ones are the Clans and the white ones are the Bloodlines.
Daeva: Anvari, Asnâm, The Carnival, Children of Judas, Duchagne, Gulikan, Kallisti, Mortifiers of the Flesh, Malintzin, Maxtla, Murales, Nelapsi, Platina, Spina, Toreador, Xiào
Gangrel: Anavashra, Anubi, Annunaku, Bohagande, Los Bucolicos, Bruja, Carnon, Chichimecas Muerta, Childer of the Morrigan, Dead Wolves, Mara, Matasuntha, Moroi, Oberlochs, Taifa, Vedma
We know next to nothing about WoD. All I know is the game will cater to the female goth crowd ala Vampire masquerade, Lost souls, Anne Rice and Twilight/vampire diaries people. Honestly if they go a more masculine Vampire/warewolf route it would be boring. Before anyone trashes twilight, While it may be corny its not as bad as Anne Rice and her straight up homo sexual soap opera the vampire chronicles.
Hmmm do I detect a bit of homophobia? If not, I apologize. Either way, from what I understand of the Anne Rice take on vampires, there is no 'homosexuality' about it. To those who don't understand how these vampires perceive the world and each other, the way they think, it would seem 'gay.' Just how I was explained it though...
P.S. I've known quite a few crazy hot goth chicks so I'm down with a player base full of them for sure...
Oh im not a homophob I just disagree with the direction of Anne rice and poppy Z brights vampires.
I'm more of a Bram Stoker guy so im a bit biased.
Addition: Kinda want to explain why I dislike the direction of Anne Rice a bit more. See I think shes a great writer I just felt like the homo sexual undertones of the novels broke my immersion on the real story in the books.

I agree a lot of times reading those books I was like "Oooooook that's nice but what about, you know, the story." And sorry but character development doesn't explain it since it got kind of repetitive.
...clipped.... As for Twilight ,story wise it wasn't bad, its just I cant get over the sparkling in the sunlight thing. Yes, I agree, that was totally cheesy and seemingly thrown in for the romanticism of it. I completely agree. I wish there was more info about the clans that will be in WoD, IDK if they are using Masquerade rules or Requiem rules, but Ive been looking forward to this game since I heard about it. Maybe someday we will meet in battle and have some fun. I hope that we will have that opportunity. If you kick my ass it wouldn't be the first time Ive gotten beaten by a female. This one girl I worked with used to own me at Tekken all the time. Well I assure you...it wouldn't go down that way with me. I enjoy PvP, but I suck, suck, suck, suck at it. I just like to talk tough. =D (shhh...don't tell though...that's a secret) lol

I am going to play this game and get so much e-pootang it won't even be funny.
Just make sure it's a female on the other end of the chat. :P
As long as its full loot pvp like ccps other game I encourage all the twilight fans to join in droves. I will really really really enjoy tearing their throats out.

Well...
Vampire the Masquerade is related to World of Darkness and all the universe created by WhiteWolf... so a World of Darkness game will cater to Vampire the Masquerade players.
Well, sure you will probably see much more "goth" males and famales playing a World of Darkness game than hip-hop folks.
It is easy to find hints of bisexualism in almost all classical Vampire tales.
As an example, when Dracula (original book) desires the blood of Jonathan, it is possible to grasp temptation.
Movies like The Hunger (Female bisexualism), Fright Night (hints of bisexualism and androgenia especially in Fright Night 2), Nosferatu (1922 and 1979- expressing the moment I mentioned between Dracula and Jonathan), Les Levres Rouges (female bisexualism) show that bisexualism is always present in Vampire mythos.
Bisexualism and homosexualism will always be present in vampire tales, even when it is totally implicit. Following the classic vampire mythos, the hunger for life and blood will always be stronger than any traditional sexual concept.
The dirty, bad ass, masculine vampire with machine guns is a recent and poor hollywoodian concept that is just as bad as the pop teen vampire of Twilight.
And yes even the worst Anne Rice's book is more expressive and much more related to the classic vampire mythos than Twilight or Blade.
... but I am under the impression that you use your homophobia to measure the quality of a Vampire tale... but maybe it is only an impression...
Ive been waiting patiently for WOD news and very little has come out except that its in production and that the EVE walk in stations was rumored to be a test ground for WOD. Also changes from 2 years ago regarding "the WOD World" have taken place and rewrites maybe taking place. i also dont blame CCP for keeping things under wraps as so many people are too quick to criticise.
I WANT MY WOD PLEASE CCP!!!!
(BBBBBBWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH raises plinger in salute to the making of WOD!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
The RP community in this game SHOULD be pretty big... it just feels like a game that would have heavy focus on:
-Role Playing
-Competition [between clans]
-Story
-Customization
-Interesting combat... I hope it'll be more action packed than the redemption game for instance. Bloodlines was a pretty wicked game though.
...a World of Darkness MMORPG could be fantasic.
But in my opinion CCP is not able to create a real World of Darkness MMORPG, not yet.
What we see in EvE has absolute nothing to do with a game like that. So, the fact that they have a succesful game like EvE doesn't say much about their skills to create something like a real World of Darkness MMORPG.
Today it would be almost impossible to create an immersive and beliveable urban and darker environment able to express what the pen and paper RPG is all about. Even simple urban environments like the ones we see in super heroes MMOs still are limited and doesn't feel alive.
It would need to be much more open and alive than any village, city or social environments from today's MMOs.
Vampire Masquerade:Bloodlines is a great game with great moments but the game suffers from artificial and small cities, the combat balance does not express what would be expected from a Vampire Masquerade game. It would be much more harder to make something expressive in a massive multiplayer game.
edit- Yes I want a WoD MMORPG but I don't belive CCP (or any other company) can do it today/next years ... and I don't blame them for that.

ya it this information was also released to the public on their forums in a pdf I think a year or more ago.
REALITY CHECK
Basically, a werewolf either has sex with a wolf ( in wolf form ) or a human ( in human form ). This determines the form the werewolf feels most comfortable in. If it's born from a wolf ( lupus ), it's more used to the wolf form and more feral, if it's born from a human ( homid ), it's more human and more comfortable as a human.
If a werewolf ( or any of the changing breeds for that matter ) has sex with another, it means that a metis is produced, which is basically an extremely disfigured werewolf, and they're the outcasts of society.

Whoa, thanks. That's pretty interesting but totally nixes any Werewolf-Werewolf love huh...
So all, if the game launches with Vampires only, what clan would you choose?
I think Brujah or maybe Ventrue for myself.. Malkavian role players could be pretty funny... or annoying.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Oh, it'll be funny

This is true, I've met very few girls that played Vampire, most girls ive met don't even know what a tabletop RPG is. Yes there was like one of my buddies GF that would play with us here and there. Ive known more girls that were into DnD compared to Vampire.
But maybe its this new generation that the girls are all into vampire stuff. But if the Twilights are playing thats cool by me, Ill just see them as part of a weak bloodline and kill them. It would be so sick if there was the Assamite clan and if you could commit Diablerie. I wish I still had my sweet Assamite.

Can you link that please, would like to read the whole article.
N a nod to the, TSW fan above me hope its good
This could be so interesting if they threw their version of mages into the mix as well.

Mekhet: Agonistes, Alucinor, Cuiatl, Jade Skirts, Khaibit, Kuufukuji, Libitinarius, Lynx, Mnemosyne, Morbus, Norvegi, Osites, Players, Qedeshah, Sangiovanni, Sons of Khalil, Tismanu, Yaol
Nosferatu: Acteius, Azerkatil, Baddacelli, Burakumin, Galloi, Gethsemani, Heironomana, Mezquinos, Morotrophian, Noctuku, Pit Haunts, Rakshasa, Yagnatia
Ventrue: Architects of the Monolith, Beni Murrahim, Bron, Cassians, Las Cocas, Dragolescu, Gorgons, Icarians, Licinii, Macellarius, Malkovian, Malocusians, Melissidae, Nahualli, Rötgrafen, Sotoha, Veracruz
Julii: Licinni, Macellarius
Hopefully they will have some bloodlines in the game because as of right now I don't know if I would want to just be one of those clans.
Edit. I guess if I had to be a Mekhet I wouldn't mind.
Since its CCP, they get a serious look as they are serious about their products, which is more i can say for others.
I mean why do I need to know if lestat wants to make love to louis? when the story is supposed to focus on a totally different comflict or common enemy. It always felt forced like Rice needed you to taste the homo erotica in her writings even if its ill placed.
I agree a lot of times reading those books I was like "Oooooook that's nice but what about, you know, the story." And sorry but character development doesn't explain it since it got kind of repetitive.

Just make sure it's a female on the other end of the chat. :P
As long as its full loot pvp like ccps other game I encourage all the twilight fans to join in droves. I will really really really enjoy tearing their throats out.
----ITS A TRAP!!!----
I had to laugh hysterically at some of you guys.
I'll be playing, if for nothing else but to see what the World of Darkness turns into.
Tell me when the official site's up. I wanna get in on the community early.
Also, quite honestly, I've been looking for a good game you can play a wolf. Darkfall just didn't hold me. *shrugs*
Check out the MUD I'm making!
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
...a World of Darkness MMORPG could be fantasic.
It would be much more harder to make something expressive in a massive multiplayer game.
edit- Yes I want a WoD MMORPG but I don't belive CCP (or any other company) can do it today/next years ... and I don't blame them for that.
...
