I will not be playing the open beta since they are forcing people to preorder.
You won't be playing the open beta because there isn't going to be one, not because they are forcing people to preorder. Nobody's forcing people to preorder. Players either choose to do so, or not.
Irrespective of that, I like the new website much better, especially the developer bios. For me, the new site makes them much more credible than the previous. My only complaint with the site is that it's rather slow loading (unless it's just getting hammered with traffic). I do still question their approach for "Prelude" and the player cost associated to it, but for the most part, my concerns are assuaged.

Well not open beta, I meant closed beta. The only way to play is to preorder it. I talked to the mod in IRC and he told me you have to preorder the game to get access as the closed beta people have already been chosen. And yes the site is really slow.
Whatever form of closed beta there will be it will be reserved for a preselected team and pre-orders and while the details have not been worked out yet there will be a free trial after release.
Hello Everyone. Yes, the new site was pretty rubbish and useless. Whatever form of closed beta there will be it will be reserved for a preselected team and pre-orders and while the details have not been worked out yet there will be a free trial after release.
Thanks for the info, aren't you the admin from there?
Yes, I mostly handle the website (though i can't say i did most of the current one) and I moderate IRC and the boards..not that there is much to do right now. Other then that, for now I don't have a major hand in the game its self.

<forcem> Virtus, as far i understant you want preodres people to the Prelude time, to create the world to the realse?
[17:10] <Virtus> i think thats basically how its going to go, yup
[17:11] <inferno3387> prelude people are going to build the world?
[17:11] <Virtus> basically yes
[17:12] <Virtus> all towns will be player made
So before the game actually launches, there will be a "prelude" and the current players will be able to build the world, add towns and edit the terrain. I am really interested in this game now.
I have been following this game for a few days and talking to other members and the mod team and it seems this is NOT a scam. Actually a pretty neat looking game from what they just added on their features page.
I like the pvp/consequence system as well. It's about time someone tried something a little different. Also, I asked yet another question on the FAQ section of that site and it was promptly answered. Information will be posted on the forums soon. Since DF is a psuedo sandbox and MO is losing my interest quick, this will be the next game I hope will deliver.

Wish they would have an open beta... can you get into the closed beta if you preorder?
Sounds a bit like a scam, and the graphics are a bit cartooney, but.... I'm tempted to pre-order anyways. Sounds pretty good, a little too good.
I agree, it sounds a bit too good...i so wish it was true If its a real game it can be awesome. But i think i won't preorder since i can't find any information about the developer team, and that makes me even more suspicious.I'll wait and see...if after the prelude lunch it turns out as a real game I'll be happy for that

I believe preordering gets you a spot in the CB, though i could be wrong. If not a spot in the CB though, you must preorder to get into the Prelude launch of the game. From what ive read it basically looks like theyre giving preorders a chance to get into the world and begin developing/building it up and exploring (as the entire world changes depending on the actions of the players). Then after those players have had a chance to pretty much get the world going, they will open it up to everyone else to join and start impacting things.

I was talking to them about this last night and your basically spot on. Those that preorder will get to jump into the Prelude first than will start constructing the first tribe villages. From what I heard there is no normal npc controlled towns, only tribal villages which the tribes/guilds make and control. After those preorder players get the ball rolling, the actual release will occur and everyone else will be able to join in and join the tribes or make their own. I also think they are planning to offer trials around that time to counter that there is no open beta.

I am personally going to wait for someone else to preorder to see if they get access or not. If they do I will be preordering also.

Quick update on that subject.

Good to know, I will talk with you on there then.
Game is releasing April 15th.

the admin guy said on the forums this:
All the features listed will be available on the Prelude launch date.
The exception is the section titled: Evolution. Those features will spring up during the Prelude this summer.
http://xsyon.com/forums/6-general-discussion/43-features-list-content-on-april-15-2010
if thats true wow.. this game will be amazing.
feature list: http://xsyon.com/features
You can pre-order up until the day before the prelude starts. So... I am going to wait a bit.
Seems like a potentially great game. The Devs are even quite responsive on the new forums.
it also says in the dev bios that one of the guys worked on Roma Victor
Starvault did the same thing... but look what is coming out...
Starvault did the same thing... but look what is coming out...
...But they will never learn. And this will continue. And game quality will worsen.

I would rather have less communication if the game is actually good. Starvault seems to have talked to the customers alittle too much IMO.

They also have just gave a bit more explaination on the pvp system

I don't know why, but I like that system.
