Still only accessible with a credit card. This game needs other pament-methods, like GameTimeCards or PayByCash-options before it will grow any further.

In Europe people don't have credit cards given like candy by their banks. And stuff like prepaid CCs are also not available. So what do you expect?
I live in europe, ive had a card i can use online since i was 16. Also prepaid CC is avaible here. So whats the problem? I cant see how it should be a problem for anyone to get a bank card to buy shit online.
Why charge 1 dollar? to keep gold spammers away? Doesn't make much sense. I usually run a trial five or six times with multiple races and playstyles before i decide on the account i will play. I would hate to pay for each trial attempt.
It makes perfect sense. Just because you abuse trial systems doesn't change anything.
How am i abusing anything? In a sandbox you can play a game multiple ways with the option to only have one character wouldn't it make sense to test everything at least a little before committing to a game purchase?
Explain how charging for a trial makes any sense at all?
Dude, the $1 makes sure its a valid credit card and not created from CC generating software...This is actually a very good idea. Sorry you dont seem to think so.
They can't just have me put in my CC info and validate my card to enter the trial? I wouldn't mind that. I know UO and FFXI used to do that. Why charge?

No- Generating a valid credit card number is easy- all those games need to know is if you have a valid card number (no charge goes through so as long as the numbers are valid they assume it a go)
A charge must go through to validate that the card is yours... Ummmm, Google Credit card algorithm for a better explaination...People could just generate cards indefinatly for cheats (and so long as no money is exchanged nobody is the wiser)
Finally get to see what all the fuss is about, $1 for 7 days of possible entertainment is not a bad deal at all. Torrenting it now, have about an hour to finish, time to start reading up.

mirdain because of dex racial bonus Which gives what? Like 1-3 dmg more total or something? People need to choose race which they like or they will be forced to play character they don't like for a long time imho.
Is there any restrictions to trial accounts? Like you can't pass a certain level, area, etc etc. Or is it just like a normal account but only open for 7 days?
Originally posted by drazzah Is there any restrictions to trial accounts? Like you can't pass a certain level, area, etc etc. Or is it just like a normal account but only open for 7 days?
I believe it's normal account. Nothing been posted about restrictions. Most likely there will be some after some time when people will find some way to abuse trials. Nothing right now from what I know.
Is there any restrictions to trial accounts? Like you can't pass a certain level, area, etc etc. Or is it just like a normal account but only open for 7 days?
* If you’re a new player entering the game for the first time, newbie protection is on by default.
* You won't be able to damage other players and other players won't be able to damage you.
* You can only damage monsters.
* The protection only lasts for a few hours of gameplay. There's a visible count-down timer.
* The protection is active only in the racial starting areas. If you wander outside your starting area, you’ll get a warning and if you don’t return within a couple of minutes, you will lose the protection.
* There’s a visual indicator that signifies you’re a new player with protection on.
* You can trade and interact with NPCs without restrictions
* You cannot use any items that cause structural or player damage (battle spikes, warhulks, cannons, ships etc.)
* You cannot use mounts
* You cannot unspawn objects
* You cannot teleport
* You cannot use Runestones
* You cannot use portals including Nexus
* You cannot create a clan
* You can give and receive buffs and heals
* You can join a clan
* Newbie protection works only for new accounts and the timer is not reset if you create a new character.
* You cannot skill up on other players or be used to skill up on

That's kind of misleading, since newbie protection is on by default for ANY new account, trial or not. Also, it only lasts a few hours, regardless of trial status, and can be turned off.

Let's face it, the player base in Darkfall is about the worst I have experienced in any game, bar none.
New players, even with the latest changes, are subject to such abuse that most quit soon after acquiring the game.
Why anyone would want to subject themselves to this is beyond me.
Sorry, encouraging people to play this game is abuse in itself.

Yes I have to agree with you about Darkfall's community, it is certainly a few notches above most MMOs. My only experience with a better online community was with EVE online.
I'm thrilled that AV has implemented a trial. I never thought of the concept of charging a teeny tiny bit a cash to reduce the abuses that come with a trial and a game like Darkfall. I'm not surprised that people are still bitching, but damn guys it's a friggin' dollar. If you can't throwdown a buck to try something you really want to try, it's definitely time to move the hell on.

1 buck is almost nothing, that is true. But it still would be better to have it for free and just put out the download on torrent instead, the chances of getting more people to try it would be larger then instead of having them to pay a symbolic sum for the bandwidth.
And 1 buck is almost nothing so they really might as well charge nothing, even if they hook in just a few players more they would earn money on it, a single new MMO player will pull in a lot of money in the long run.
As for the credit card it is not an uncommon or even hard requirement even though they might get a few extra players in if they had an alternative payment method, like a bank to bank transfer, paypal or western union. More players is better and some countries still mostly use cash. Not a big deal either but a few more possibly players extra might be worth the work, it is something Avi will have to decide themselves.
I don't see any gamecards for DF coming out soon, it just isn't large enough to justify that. Only companies like Blizzard, NC soft and SOE are large enough to actually make money from gamecards. Tried looking for account with Visa Electron? I have online account with this card and it's working fine (in Poland at least).
Darkfall can't be paid with VISA Electron in Finland and PayPal needs to be linked to a credit card aswell over here.
visa electron is a debit card not a credit card and many banks block internet payments whit this cards because of charge back law in that country
